I normally go to coffee shops to work. This is one of those "we don't have wifi because we want you to just sit and enjoy each other's company" coffee shops. Ugh, fine. I get it. But I want to do work. Pros: + As with all of the HG locations, it is beautifully designed and decorated. + In particular, the FLOORS could be stared at all day. You don't even need to bring a friend here to chat with. You can just buy a drink and stare at the floor. It's that beautiful. + Kombucha on tap. YAHHHHH + They have the super trendy cold brew with nitro. I don't know why I'm listing this as a pro since I've never had it (anywhere), but I appreciate it for some reason. + Espresso is delicious. + Just STEPS away from the Lafayette station (C train) or the Fulton St. stop (B52 bus). Manager rudely and accusatorily asked the only Black person in the store if that was her drink she'd just picked up. When she didn't let him get away with it he argued with her but did not apologize. After putting her drink down by her children, she even went back and tried to explain to him in a calm and reasonable tone (something I'd have been too shaken to do) what it looked like, he still did not apologize. read more

Neighborhood coffee shop always busy with a line and people working/chatting inside this small 400 sf place. Nice place to sit outside to watch the sunset in fort Greene. Lovely staff. The new beans come in every Thursday so best to pick up your bag on Thursday/Friday. It comes with a free cup of coffee. I go for the iced coffee and they charge me 50 cents to a dollar to make it a large. read more

Met a friend here for a meeting yesterday and was happy to make yet another awesome Brooklyn discovery. Ft. Greene is one my absolute favorite areas in Brooklyn, so whenever I come across a noteworthy establishment it's always a plus! My friend selected this spot and we thought, being that it's a coffee shop, that it would be an environment where we could be productive. You can imagine my surprise when I walked in and saw a beer in front of him. Almost counter-intuitive like walking into a Starbuck's and smelling French-fries. Yes, not only does this coffee shop/bakery have beer on tap, they have HAPPY HOUR on Sunday! Needless to say, I indulged so my friend would not be drinking alone. I ordered a Blue Moon and had one of their Oven Toasted Sandwiches which had chicken, fontina cheese, arugula, and pesto mayo. The sandwich was not spectacular but also was not horrible. It tasted what it looked like so there was no real "wow" factor. To be fair, I can safely say it was between decent and good. I was probably more wowed by the novelty of the space and the friendly staff. If this review was solely on food I would have given it a 3.75 stars. However, the quaintness, novelty, and energy of the place pushed it into the 4-star range. The only other challenge here is that there's not a whole lot of seating. Overall, will definitely be coming back and trying other items on the menu. read more

Good but kind of pricey and small. "do you want that for here or to go?" **me: looking around at the tiny yet adorable coffee shop with all seats filled and then out at the drizzling rain on the street.** "I, ah, guess to go." I came for the Dough donuts which were good but I noticed the grease from my donut completely saturating the paper bag it was in as I walked. I had a large iced coffee to go with it and wish I had tried something called "nitro iced" (similar to nitro beer) they had. Total for donut and coffee? $8 and change. Much like the grease at the bottom of my bag, I felt like it was all too rich for my blood, both literally and figuratively. $5 dollar cold brew. You'd need to have a brew mighty enough to keep me wide eyed for at least 8 hours to get me to fish over that cash. Hungry Ghost has just that, and even though that little voice in my head says "Sam, nooooo" every time I hand over my card to the counter I refuse to listen to reason, and only my jittery heart that screams "IM READY TO GET JACKED UP." In all seriousness, Hungry Ghost has a great brew. Yes, its pricey - but the neighborhood is, too. This is superior to coffees youd get at Starbucks or Dunkin, so the extra bucks usually always ends up being worth it. The vegan cookies they offer have always been a nice treat to my day, especially the salted chocolate chip. Staff is typically very nice, some more chipper than others but in all honesty I don't know how many fake smiles I could pull off on a Sunday morning in the middle of morning caffeine rush hour. 4 instead of 5 strictly because they recently upped the prices (but who am I kidding - I'll be back, like, tomorrow). read more

I order an espresso with a little cream and guy at counter repeats my order then charges me for a macchiato. He gets more clarification from the barista that I only ordered an espresso and tells me he still charged me for an macchiato and makes no attempt to correct the overcharge. Nice little coffee place close to downtown Brooklyn. It's looks nice and there's seating inside as well as outside. I got an oat milk latte for about $5. It's priced about the same as any other coffee shop in the area. The latte was good. I'd definitely come back if I'm in the area! read more

Came into the cafe on Saturday, I had just missed the rush hour which I thought was great just. Had a great experience with the person at the counter but the barista on bar was so beyond rude. ( note he was wearing a red/ maroon mask) I had order a extra dry cap and an Iced americano with little ice. He starts complaining that he can't make the americano because it needs more ice and then fills it to the very top. The milk for the cap wasn't even close to being dry or foamy it was so watery that even the counter person told him that I wanted it dry and instead of resteaming the milk he just pours this watery milk into the cup and called it a cappuccino. read more

Very typical of any other Artsy New York cafe....but i was really impressed with the friendly atmosphere. The architecture of the building is quite the eye catcher if you can picture horse drawn carriages, and cobblestone streets back in its hay day... I come here for breakfast sometimes, I said sometimes because it can be a tad bit pricey for me. The decaf americano is very good but my favorite thing to get is the cardomon bread ( from Ovenly) and the egg and cheese sandwich on a french roll. The cardomon bread is moist, has the right amount of sweet and has this crunch on top and that reminds of the 7 up cake my mom used to make back in the day. The egg tastes like how eggs used to taste with a little salt and pepper; the cheese tastes like gourmet cheddar, the bread is super fresh. Mohammed and other guy he works with (the guy who works in the mornings with the long braids, I didn't catch his name, thus the description), is very nice. read more

I'm often at this location but after today's interaction with the barista in charge of the espresso machine I no longer wish to visit the Fort Greene HG. I know not all the baristas there are jerks but this guy (dark blond/ginger beard, glasses, anger issues, working the 5pm shift on Saturday) sure yelled at me because I simply asked him about my coffee. Excuse me!!! A simple "it's coming up" would've done the trick but no he had to yell that he had two lattes coming up and made me feel super uncomfortable & stupid for tipping. Other clients (you know those people that give their $$ to the coffee shop & TIP too BTW) looked at me just as shocked as I was with his reply. A cutesy meets industrial coffee shop with friendly baristas and a clean, big bathroom (bc we knows those are a rarity in NYC). The unique: Nitro It is their standard cold brew but infused with nitrogen to produce a foamy, rich almost slightly bubbly cold brew. It's less acidic than the regular cold brew and definitely doesn't need the addition of milk. It's the Guinness of cold brews. I'm obsessed. Cold brew: not as impressed. I've been here a couple times, and really like this coffee shop. It's on the smaller side with a few tables inside and a bench outside to sit at when the weather is nice. They have a great selection of pastries along with stumptown coffee and other beverages. The staff are all very friendly, and they have a punch card so if you become a frequent visitor, the 10th purchase is free I believe. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area! read more

What a cute coffee shop! My friend and I were in the area and were hoping for some coffee and stumbled here. I love the seats outside of the place that resemble subway seats; on a sunny day, they are a great spot to people watch from. I ordered the matcha latte from here. Loved the taste, had a good deal of matcha powder at the bottom of my drink at the end though, meaning it never fully dissolved in. The drinks are a little pricey, but to be expected at a place like this. Bathroom is pretty clean, great location, and comfortable to be at for a little while. read more
