We moved out of Burke 4 years ago but still visit friends. Our most recent visit to Hunan West was to pickup a catering order of appetizers. I phoned the order in and a super friendly staff member took my order. She was nice enough to tell me that she would package it up in a large tray. Win win for me since I didn't had to transfer the appetizers into my own tray. They also packed me a bunch of packed sauces. Everyone enjoyed the hot appetizers. They were crunchy and tasty, not greasy. Staff was efficient during the pickup and payment process. I will definitely be returning. read more

I wanted to actually shout out who took my order, Miss Ashely was the pinnacle of perfection with customer service, and really helped me understand what I wanted and what I needed. Going to Hunan West is usually a stop during any time im visiting my parents. The food is always good and the service is friendly and fast. I have been eating here since I was 3 so it's seriously like coming home! Today's meal and visit consisted of mostly appetizers and just one main dish as we had eaten a larger meal earlier in the day. We shared the following dishes: Egg Rolls Vietnamese Summer roll Pan Fried Dumplings Crab Rangoon Egg Drop Soup General Tao's Chicken Everything was delicious and the general's chicken was delicious-it is seriously the best I have had anywhere. It's a mix of booths and tables and have even some larger round tables with a swivel to make passing dishes around easier. For the price I do like it. There's no denying it's a good value. Family owned and operated, very kind employees. Have always enjoyed service whether dining here, carry out, or delivery. Seating and the dining area are clean. This is good for a date, due to it being relatively quiet. Inflation has hit us all. To their credit they've kept prices within reason. As for the quality it's decent. Here is where to get a traditional meal, like chicken/beef with rice and broccoli. These simple dishes work. The sweet and sour chicken batter on the chicken is amazing, but I wish they served the sauce on the side bc it got soggy quickly. The Peking duck was money! Everything I ordered was disgusting, thought at least one thing I ordered would be ok, but man I don't understand. Had hair in my veggies lo mien as well so I was just completely over it. I don't get the poor reviews some people have left. We have only had good experiences with Hunan West. Our go-tos are typically include hot and sour soup, chicken corn soup, steamed dumplings, General Tsos chicken, chicken lo mein, chicken fried rice, and more. The quality of the chicken dishes has always been good. It's like real meat compared to some of the others that taste like rubber and mystery meat. This is our family favorite in the area. read more

The quality of the food over the past 5 years has gotten so bad I'm ashamed to say I was just buying out of laziness. Once a 50/50 (take your chance) to a place I'll never order from again. One of my favorites (Crispy Orange Beef) now contains meat thats been soaked in tenderizer. It's disgusting compared to what it once was. Quality Down and prices WAY UP. Watch out for the previously frozen appetizers. Last nights dinner was it. Not that this is a place to get Peking Duck but I had anyhow knowing it would be mediocre but I wanted some.. What a mistake. It was just a just a greasy piece of fried Duck.. Tasteless.. So this place was a surprise. I had to run an errand in the area, and needed a quick bite, and Hunan West did not disappoint. Their menu is varied with many of the traditional favorites that you would expect to see, but they also have some unique dishes that I have never seen on any other Chinese menu. I started my gastronomic journey with some tasty egg rolls and followed up with a macadamia nut and chicken yumfest that was quite delicious. This dish reminded me of the standard chicken and cashew selection, but it had a tangy kick that was a clear delight. They do have a rule against eating at the bar, but I found that this gave me more room to sample their selection of complementary sauces (Chinese Mustard, Hot Peppe Sauce, and Duck Sauce). Absolute rudest server I've ever had. My dad and I have been going here for a while and every single time my dad asks for something (keep in mind is a quiet older fella in his mid 70's) like extra sauce, or to have it spicier, she argues very combatively and rudely to him. Here's another example, today we went, and when he went to give her his card to pay, she just looked at him and rudely said "the check is on the table, not in my hand." Like I'm sorry but come on lady. There's no reason to say stuff like that. The food isn't that good for that rude of service. While I overall enjoy the food. They will only provided their FRIED DUMPLINGS in styrofoam for delivery. They used to put the dumplings in a soup container or rice container if I asked (at a small fee) but apparently not anymore. Consuming styrofoam is so unhealthy and so dangerous and someone who is currently manage their cancer they are mindful about things like styrofoam. They insisted that the styrofoam wouldn't dissolve but they lied. What a waste of money. For these reasons I encourage people to find another place for Chinese food. read more
