Excellent food and service! Go here frequently and today we ordered from the lunch menu. I really liked the Almond Chicken. For a lunch portion, it had a lot of chicken in it and was delicious. My husband thought the King Pao Spicy Chicken needed more sauce and was not his fav meal from here. Egg Rolls were really good and very full. They have the best Egg Drop Soup with a lot of egg and not too salty - I love it here. The Hot and Sour Soup is good too. The crunchy noodles were thin and very fresh, unlike some other places. Lunch prices for combos are $10-$12. Decent for meals out these days. The servers are so kind and efficient. Ahl is great and she even packed my leftovers for me. read more

Food is delicious. I love the General Tsos, Kung Pao, Cleopatras Chicken, egg rolls and the soups!! Staff are super friendly and deliver very quickly! read more

We moved out of Burke 4 years ago but still visit friends. Our most recent visit to Hunan West was to pickup a catering order of appetizers. I phoned the order in and a super friendly staff member took my order. She was nice enough to tell me that she would package it up in a large tray. Win win for me since I didn't had to transfer the appetizers into my own tray. They also packed me a bunch of packed sauces. Everyone enjoyed the hot appetizers. They were crunchy and tasty, not greasy. Staff was efficient during the pickup and payment process. I will definitely be returning. read more

Okay, pre-covid, this was my second favorite Chinese spot in all of NOVA. During COVID the quality went down, almost as if food was being reheated from the day before. But they're BACK BABY! If you're looking for great kung pao chicken and chunky egg rolls, then this is the spot for you. One of the better kung Pao chicken dishes in NOVA for sure. Food is back to being quality and fresh! read more

I am so sorry to report that this restaurant how seriously gone down in food and service. I ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan and a side of beef steamed dumplings. When my husband picked up the order and came home, there was no rice with the Moo Goo Gai Pan. I called to ask the restaurant if they could send someone to our house with the rice. We live 2 miles away. They said no but offered to give me a free spring roll if I came back to pick up the rice. ??? Really, they are 2 miles away and offer delivery so why would they not try to fix THEIR error? Then, I decided to try the meat dumplings. YUCK! Horrible and I have them here before. WTH? These dumplings had play dough for the noodle exterior ... 1/4" T. play dough for real. I had to take the meat out and just eat it that way. I have never been so disappointed with a meal there. Not sure what has changed but if you want good Chinese food do not go here until they quit cheapening things and also remember that they are in business because of long time clients like us. You have been warned. read more

Going to Hunan West is usually a stop during any time im visiting my parents. The food is always good and the service is friendly and fast. I have been eating here since I was 3 so it's seriously like coming home! Today's meal and visit consisted of mostly appetizers and just one main dish as we had eaten a larger meal earlier in the day. We shared the following dishes: Egg Rolls Vietnamese Summer roll Pan Fried Dumplings Crab Rangoon Egg Drop Soup General Tao's Chicken Everything was delicious and the general's chicken was delicious-it is seriously the best I have had anywhere. It's a mix of booths and tables and have even some larger round tables with a swivel to make passing dishes around easier. The owner recently passed the restaurant to his niece and she is doing a great job of keeping everything great! read more

Placed an order for carry out... and received actually delicious food. I wanted to actually shout out who took my order, Miss Ashely was the pinnacle of perfection with customer service, and really helped me understand what I wanted and what I needed. THANK YOU SO MUCH MISS!!! The food was great, but I will return business because of that young lady. Maybe one day I will be able to appreciate the decor of the spot, because it's right down the street and it looks so great inside ! read more

Oh my goodness, my belly is sooooo happy! Can't go wrong with any of the chef special's... but my personal fave is the crispy beef proper!!! Whatever you do, be sure to try the Mai Tai's. Best ever! read more

Great food. Very nice area. But 15/10 service. Our server was Ginger, and she was extremely attentive, kind, and very welcoming. Will come here again! read more

For the price I do like it. There's no denying it's a good value. Family owned and operated, very kind employees. Have always enjoyed service whether dining here, carry out, or delivery. Seating and the dining area are clean. This is good for a date, due to it being relatively quiet. Inflation has hit us all. To their credit they've kept prices within reason. As for the quality it's decent. Here is where to get a traditional meal, like chicken/beef with rice and broccoli. These simple dishes work. To my taste buds it's average, but I do recommend it. read more

Last night I ordered a large order for pick up. The food was exceptionally good. Everything was delicious and exactly what I ordered. The person packing up the order did an amazing job too. Tge order was ready on time and not even a drop of soup spilled! Plenty of condiments too! Thank Hunan West so much. read more

The service was amazing! We got hot and sour soup, wonton soup (Hong Kong style), sweet and sour chicken, and half Peking duck. The sweet and sour chicken batter on the chicken is amazing, but I wish they served the sauce on the side bc it got soggy quickly. The Peking duck was money! Pretty good for a decent price! read more

Oh, I had a taste Egg Foo Young Combination and this spot satisfied me much, along with chicken wings! It was plenty of food and I took most of it to go. Service was adequate and attentive and polite! No doubt I will come again when I am in the area. read more

Food is great! Service is good. Usually get takeout. Great variety in menu. Always a solid meal here.

Really great food and service here. The webiste is terrible for trying to submit delivery orders but otherwise OK.

We had lunch on a Saturday. The food was good and the servings were huge! We could not finish our meals so we took the leftovers home and had them the next day. The service was prompt and attentive. It was quiet and we were able to talk at a conversational level, which was very nice! I'll be back soon. read more

Great food and local service. We have no idea why it's 3 stars. We think that review is super unfair.

This place is amazing! Our server really kind and sweet, helping answer our questions about the menu. The food was also delicious, and the inside of the restaurant is really pretty too! I will definitely be back! read more

The worst ever. I will never order their food ever again and definitely do not recommend this place to anyone ever. Everything I ordered was disgusting, thought at least one thing I ordered would be ok, but man I don't understand. Had hair in my veggies lo mien as well so I was just completely over it. I'm sure if I put my grandson to the test of cooking, he can cook better than this. The oil definitely is old, even my string beans was horrible and burnt. Make that make sense. read more

Crab wontons were good, but the dumpling meat was grainy. Sesame chicken was a-ok, but nothing to rave about.

The hot and sour soup was excellent. The moo goo chicken was good. The rice was dry. The worst was the 3 oz glass of plum wine for $9.00. Wtf. Outrageous. Might go back for the food, but not the wine ! Service was excellent. read more

I wanted to give this place one more chance. We had switched to better places for Chinese and definitely Thai. The Crab Rangoon Fried Wanton appetizers are dreadful!! Not only are they frozen but they are pasty (old maybe) and taste horrible. Will never order from there again due to consistent bad experiences with the food - it is really bad. read more

Hollllly Motherf***in' SHIZ... Was in town visiting family and they're all like: "ohhh, we have to go to 'Hunan West' at some point for dinner." I'm like "what is it?" And one cousin is like "the best Chinese food ever." I'm like "including in CHINA?!?" "I've never BEEN to China..." "Well then shush!" I'm being facetious and also meandering: food is great, service is fast. I'm from the East Coast but have been on the West Coast for a few decades...in regards to Chinese food, they're missing a few things in Cali that the East Coast does well and Hunan West does SPECTACULARLY: 1) The "your sinuses are clear now" spicy mustard 2) Duck sauce 3) General Tso's Chicken My GOD, the General Tso's Chicken was AMAZING. I couldn't finish it all at the table, so I had to take the rest of the order to go. I ate it the morning after Christmas for breakfast and it was STILL so, so good. Highly, HIGHLY recommend. I will shed a tear that I'm not there with you enjoying it as well! read more

So this place was a surprise. I had to run an errand in the area, and needed a quick bite, and Hunan West did not disappoint. Their menu is varied with many of the traditional favorites that you would expect to see, but they also have some unique dishes that I have never seen on any other Chinese menu. I started my gastronomic journey with some tasty egg rolls and followed up with a macadamia nut and chicken yumfest that was quite delicious. This dish reminded me of the standard chicken and cashew selection, but it had a tangy kick that was a clear delight. They do have a rule against eating at the bar, but I found that this gave me more room to sample their selection of complementary sauces (Chinese Mustard, Hot Peppe Sauce, and Duck Sauce). I don't know when I'll be in the area again, but when I am, I will definitely stop by for a quick meal read more

Decided to finally try this place Sat night because we no longer like Rolling Cooking. We ordered food to go. I ordered Hunan Chicken, my bf ordered Chicken with broccoli, Extra Spicy. Both are marked with a pepper on the menu. The only good thing was that it was fast. While we were waiting for my bf order, I see one of the ladies bring back a spice tray from the dining room. I asked if I could have a small container of the red hot sauce. The owner tells me it will be an extra 25 cents. I told him it was my first time trying the restaurant and he was still adamant. Not friendly at all, just insisting on his 25 cents. Who is carrying around a quarter around in their pocket these days? Zero concept of goodwill. Both dishes were pretty bland. Mine should have been called Broccoli, Baby Corn with Bits of Chicken and Carrots. The Chicken and Broccoli (Broccoli with Bits of Chicken) was ordered Extra Spicy but it wasn't. Both dishes were $13.25 each. Kinda pricey for what it was. Judging by the other reviews and what the people writing lower reviews look like and judging by what I look like, I'm wondering if they don't have a problem serving Hispanics... read more

I don't get the poor reviews some people have left. We have only had good experiences with Hunan West. Our go-tos are typically include hot and sour soup, chicken corn soup, steamed dumplings, General Tsos chicken, chicken lo mein, chicken fried rice, and more. The quality of the chicken dishes has always been good. It's like real meat compared to some of the others that taste like rubber and mystery meat. This is our family favorite in the area. read more

The quality of the food over the past 5 years has gotten so bad I'm ashamed to say I was just buying out of laziness. Once a 50/50 (take your chance) to a place I'll never order from again. One of my favorites (Crispy Orange Beef) now contains meat thats been soaked in tenderizer. It's disgusting compared to what it once was. Quality Down and prices WAY UP. Watch out for the previously frozen appetizers. Last nights dinner was it. Not that this is a place to get Peking Duck but I had anyhow knowing it would be mediocre but I wanted some.. What a mistake. It was just a just a greasy piece of fried Duck.. Tasteless.. The pancakes that came with it were the size of burrito tortillas, thick and not the proper 5" or so thin pancakes I've been up all night sick with abdominal pains....NEVER AGAIN. read more

Great white meat, this is my favorite chinese food spot in the area. Always delicious!!

My delivery order was initially delivered to the wrong address. When I did receive the order, there was no lemon sauce for the lemon chicken, and no sauce for the crab ragoon. Absolute rudest server I've ever had. My dad and I have been going here for a while and every single time my dad asks for something (keep in mind is a quiet older fella in his mid 70's) like extra sauce, or to have it spicier, she argues very combatively and rudely to him. Here's another example, today we went, and when he went to give her his card to pay, she just looked at him and rudely said "the check is on the table, not in my hand." Like I'm sorry but come on lady. There's no reason to say stuff like that. The food isn't that good for that rude of service. If you go there, just know that you're gonna get some mid food and a server who thinks it's cool to bully the elderly for literally no reason at all. read more
