It's a dangerous game to order catering from a business you've never frequented before but I trust Cam H's taste buds and decided to take a gamble! I called XO Taste Express to inquire about catering for fifty and the owner was SO helpful in helping me decide on a menu for our guest list. We decided to go with the seafood fried rice, stir fried vegetarian noodles, shrimp and papaya salad, lemongrass chicken, soy sauce chicken, and when she found out we were Filipino....ALLL ZEEE roasted pork aka: lechon. She was proud of her food and it showed. She also offered delivery for $25 which was really, really helpful since we would be rushing from church to our home to set up the party. This ensured that the food was delivered hot and fresh. Favorites of the party included the lemongrass chicken (as Anne C mentioned, that scallion sauce is totally crack), the extra crispy lechon, and seafood fried rice. Everyone was excited to try something new and coupled with a various other items we catered from other restaurants, the whole baptism was a hit with little effort on our part. It is a smaller restaurant with about 4 tables where you order, and the self serve with sauces and plasticware. The service was fine and the food came out in a timely manner. I ordered the Dan Dan noodles and it was entirely too oily and the serving size was too small for how much it costs. XOTE weighs your requested roasted meats (bones and all), and claims their scale isn't properly calibrated, shows you a price on the scale, and then charges you a higher price?? When they chop your roasted meat, they remove the ginormous bone, but charge you the same price they quoted you earlier (different from the price on the scale). If you ask them to reweigh it or to validate you received the amount of meat you requested (in my case 2 pounds of siu yuk), they say NO. Along with "get out". Even with the bone, my siu yuk order was only 1.4 pounds but she was going to charge me for 2 pounds?? When I called her on it, she changed the price to $27. The scale said $25.40. Then she finally said, "Fine, I give you for $25!" After all of that drama, she started ranting to her fellow Chinese friends while snarling at me and pointing to me. She also used her ungloved hand to touch the rest of the roasted meats. Lovely, don't you agree??!! DID YOU KNOW #2? XOTE is located inside Fresh World (Korean market) next to Poongnyon (Korean food) and Pancho (Tex-Max) food stalls. DID YOU KNOW #3? Don't go to DC Chinatown for roasted meats. There might be 1 or 2 places that still sell them but Falls Church, VA seems to have the best selection, albeit a small selection. ---------- Anyhow, while the service alone was atrocious, if the food was really THAT good, I would still come back. That's just me. But it is NOT!! Although I don't rate service for food establishments. Always come here for fresh roast/peking duck and pig. Come early in the day as they sell out fast and close once they're sold out. Typically the batch of duck and pig is really around noon, there are times, everything is sold out by 5pm. Prices are less compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. I will NEVER patronize this establishment again. Extremely shady and unprofessional. Would quote you a price then demand another price when checking out, but then would charge you additional charges on top of that without telling you. They didn't even provide an itemized receipt and just lumped everything together in an attempt to scam. When I asked them to fix the added charges, they fixed back the price and then added on a few dollars more. In total, they cheated and lied to me 4 times. Please be careful when checking out. At that point I was too exhausted to argue. The owners' verbal and body language were extremely aggressive. What disgusting customer service. Lured by the promise of hot tasty pork belly, I just couldn't resist. Was doing my weekly produce shopping in the Fresh World International Market and noticed a new business had opened over in the "food court" area. The lady working the counter chats away friendly with each customer that comes up to the counter. Not sure what language it was, but she switched over to English when it was my turn. She made sure to trim my pork belly so I wasn't paying for all fat and asked me if I wanted it chopped up. I just wanted a big chunk (would take care of slicing and chopping at home). So she weighed and priced my order, then she proceeded to shove even more of the tender juicy meat in the container. :-) I could barely make it through the rest of my shopping. I was dizzy from the aroma coming from the package in my cart. A small deli type counter inside Fresh World supermarket carrying an assortment of bbq and roasted meats. They also carry a small assortment of baked goods, desserts, pickled veggies and cha lua ( Vietnamese ham). Unfornately they don't have a menu but I do know they have other dishes. My dad has ordered a fried tofu dish from here on many occasions. And we've also gotten a large tray of stir fry noodles catered for parties from here. They make a lemongrass chicken that is amazing!! The salt and pepper chicken comes with a ginger sauce that's ok. They also make soy sauce chicken which my brother really enjoys. I literally live like 1.5 miles away and have only bought roast pork and always enjoyed it. Then recently my mom was like oh hey did you know they have ga xa ot and I was like no ... and then they raved about how great it is. My sister and I raced over there one Sunday at like 3 pm and sadly there was no chicken left so we bought the peppered duck and it was realllyy good. So everyone knows duck is fatty so that still holds true but the skin is seasoned salty and peppery with a lil sugar that caramelizes the skin just a tad and that dipping sauce she gives you is money !!!! So get the duck!!! I then came back a week later and got the ga xa ot it's so yummy!!! I can't even explain it just please go! I found out about this place from my sister - and mind you, I hate driving and going out of my way for places, especially for a spot that's not even a sit-down restaurant, and she's got me driving to springfield to a random grocery store and getting a half chicken all the time! My husband finds the roasted duck to be on the fatty side, but good nonetheless so it is a "sometime" purchase for us. The buns with the shredded dried pork also make great breakfast. Love this express Vietnamese / Chinese barbecue food. The husband and wife owners team are wonderful people who can speak Vietnamese, Chinese, and English. If we could give them ZERO stars that would be better. Stay far away from this place, because they will rip you off. This was our 3rd visits since December 31st. The owners are not the friendliest, nor honest people. We had called in the night before to place and order for Friday. Was told to come in at noon on Friday. Showed up at noon, only to be told to come back at 12:45-1:00. What a total waste of a lunch hour! Told them would back by at 3:30 PM. Showed up at 3:30 to find out they still didn't have the order ready. Can only assume they sold our order to someone else and we would have to wait for another 45 minutes. By then, both of us were extremely upset. At 4:15 finally got the roasted pork was told "Oh I'll give you 2.5 lbs for price of 2 lbs for all the trouble". Requested them to place the meat back on the scale after chopping it up. It was NOT 2.5 lbs-it was 2.32 lbs. Owner saw this & she acted like she put a few more pieces in (which I wouldn't be surprised if she took some out from the bottom container when trying to do something else). After getting home, weighed both containers and it only came up to 2.13 lbs. XO Taste Express is NOT honest with the way they weigh your purchase. We DO NOT recommend them based on our experiences, the owners rudeness & their bad business tactics. Go somewhere else to buy roasted duck, pork etc, as these people are NOT honest people. read more

The owner lady was very rude! The procedure to process a payment from a customer goes something like... The total is "$15" and then expect 20 bucks or a credit card, right? She just straight up said, "Give me your card!" I was a bit shook she said that without even telling me the total. They don't have a menu with prices so I didn't know and I would like to know the total after tax before having a business swipe my credit card. Anyways, I ordered a whole peking duck for $26 before tax and some pork meat. It was soooOOOoooOooo salty!!!!! I couldn't even finish and had a hard time eating it. I was more full with water than the meats. My expectations for this shop was way too high. I'm gonna opt out for legit peking duck restaurants instead of the foodcourt for quality/taste next time.
