A few people told me that this place has the best BBH in the DMV area. My go to place for BBH has always been at Eden Center. So I decided to visit this place and see if that is true. I haven't been to this area for many years but I did remember there was a Hechinger store here when I was growing up. I came during lunch time on Sunday and the place is packed but didn't have to wait for a table. I ordered the Nem Roll and Bun Bo Hue Special. Both came out quickly. The sauce that came with the nem roll is different from what I used to. Not sure what's in it other than peanuts. It tasted bland and didn't enhance the flavor at all. It was decent roll. They really know how to do takeout orders, as it came with chopsticks and a plastic soup spoon. I've been here a few times throughout the years (like 2 years) and I can't believe I never had a chance to review it. Their food, their staff, and atmosphere have been consistently good. So let's start with basics, love the parking because it's a lot and plenty of space. Parking is important to me because I'm just bad at any place that requires me to parallel or tight quarters where someone could scratch your car. I love the name as someone who's from Saigon and the endearment of the word oi. The menu has been updated since I've been there (or at least that's what someone told me). I can't tell if it's less options or more. The appetizers have a great range with different style of spring rolls (I got to try both). There's your pho options and bun Bo hue (personal favorite), and mi quang (something I've missed from my grandma's cooking). There's rice dishes and a few Vietnamese desserts like the che (which I barely see as a choice when going out) I recently got to try their mi quang and have to say it's pretty good. It's flavorful and looked similar to my grandmother's. The noodles were a little tough, but I think that was just more of a noodle specific situation not the broth. My family had the pho and found the broth to be comforting and didn't taste fake. They've been to places where the broth has a powdered fake taste to it. We all tried the grilled pork sausage spring rolls this but time around and it was a hit. My husband who is anti-veggies genuinely enjoyed it without pulling anything of the veggies out of the rolls. Now I know how to get him to have veggies. This past experience makes me want to make more of an effort to come here because I normally go through months of not going. Now Pho Saigon Oi doesn't make them quite as good as their West Coast counterparts, but it's better than the other places that try to imitate it around here. Always a go-to snack for my girlfriend and I. I also heard through the grapevine that the Nem Nuong at Nha Trang Eden Center is made by the same people. I came here on a late Saturday afternoon and when I walked in, I noticed how big the restaurant is, there is a lot of space and tables. The inside is very clean, bright and modern looking. This restaurant is located in the same shopping center as El Grande, across the street from the Backlick VRE. The service is good and our waitress was really nice. Someone in our group was running late, but we went ahead and ordered for her. The waitress waited until she came in to bring her food out. Looking at the menu, I really wanted to try the nem nuong summer rolls. You cannot find these around the DMV area, and this place actually serve it. Our group ordered a large order of the nem nuong rolls and I ordered a #1 combo pho. I really like how there are pictures for most of the items and descriptions of the meat for the pho. It was helpful to see these because there are so many different types of meat and sometimes I only want certain cuts. The nem nuong and the dipping sauce was so good! The pho was also good, but it seems like the broth did not develop long enough. The soup flavor was light. The meat slices were pretty big compared to other restaurants. I did like the different herbs on the plate, there was Thai basil and chicory leaves. They also have sate sauce on the table, it was spicy and had a nice garlic flavor. This past Sunday, to satiate my craving for pho, I traveled to Springfield VA. This place had a good rating on Yelp and I haven't been in this area in a while so it was nice to check it out. This place itself is well lit and spacious. Friendly masked and gloved staff greeted customers generously as they walked in. Very nice gesture and makes you feel very much welcome. My appetizer of choice was the grilled pork sausage rice paper wrap. Additional ingredients included mint leaves, lettuce, picked radish and carrots, and crunchy fried spring roll skin. The house special sauce gave off a tangy and slightly sweet taste. Couldn't pinpoint the exact flavors, but it was very light as to not overpower the roll's natural flavor. The pho broth had a strong beefy essence. The noodles are nice and chewy (heck yeah!). Meat was plentiful for those who never get enough! I ordered my usual extra onions and beef fat with scallions. Was good pho for the evening. This is a great place to eat. They have much more than just pho on the menu. Heard about this place and wanted to check out a Vietnamese restaurant that had other goodies besides pho. We tried the combo special with grilled pork/egg quiche/shredded pork/broken rice, mi quang (pork and shrimp soup with egg noodles), Nem nuong (grilled pork sausage roll) and all of the dishes were fantastic! The serving sizes were really good for the prices and the flavors were all on point. I love how they balance the different flavors of savory, sweet, and spicy within the different dishes and it's somewhat adjustable to your liking. The mi quang (pork and shrimp noodle dish) comes with chilies on the side so you can add it to make it spicier and the pork sausage rolls comes with a side of Thai chilies if you want that extra kick. Otherwise you can leave it out. We absolutely loved the combo special and mi quang. I really loved all of the dishes but I think the pork sausage spring rolls really deserve a paragraph of their own. The balance of of the crunchy fried strip, freshness of the veggies, slightly chewy texture of the wrapper, grilled sausage that takes up half of the roll, and a savory sauce to dip it in completes it for me.
