Hunan has the best Chinese food around. It's a hole in the wall takeout only but absolutely worth the try. Some great food from them is general tsos chicken and shrimp, orange chicken, sesame chicken, spring rolls, fantail shrimp and boneless pork. The egg foo young gravy is a little salty but delicious. Putting egg foo young gravy on the beef lo mein is an absolute game changer. They are very fast (except holidays it gets very busy) and the food is always hot, even when delivered. They have nice staff too. There's this one delivery driver he's a guy that walks a bit slow but he's great, super friendly and has been working there forever. If you're sick you absolutely have to get the chicken noodle soup. It's delicious and will make you feel much better. If their chicken soup doesn't make you feel better then call your family and say goodbye. Some things not too great are their fridge is not very cold so the drinks don't get as cold as they should and I was not a fan on the shrimp toast but I've never had it anywhere else. I highly recommend Hunan. I've been coming here for 20 years and still order at least once a month. Tiny takeout-only joint hidden in the back of a quiet Blackstone shopping center just over the border from Woonsocket RI. A few unique items on the menu, like mini donuts, as well as more standard fare. They offer combos all day and conveniently have smaller sizes available on appetizers. Duck Sauce: Big bucket of industrially prepared packets by the ordering window. Not a good sign. I grabbed a few and also asked for duck sauce in the bag. The cook pointed to the bucket. "You don't also have real duck sauce?" He reluctantly put two mini containers (same color) in the bag. The stuff in the container tastes like orange, watered down but thick. The packet version tasted similar but with more chemicals. Offputting to say the least. Both tasted like Triaminic cold and allergy syrup. Frankly, I think I'd rather have the Triaminic. Boneless Ribs: Went with a small order that generously filled a plastic pint container. Well glazed, brick red color, very nice char, and a mixture of sizes and textures (some moist, some dry). The glaze seems primarily a mix of standard red and either hoisin or brown Chinese barbecue paste, plus a fragrant component I can't place. Appealing in short spurts. Above average. Orange Chicken (on a combo): Standard bumpy pieces with standard crunch, with the chicken underneath neither moist nor dry. Generic, mild sauce: faintly sweet, faint orange flavor, no heat, no orange peel, no complementary components. Plenty of pieces, but roughly average; maybe a bit below. Egg Roll (on the combo): On the small side, nicely segregated in a glassine bag. Crunchy both outside and in, with a filling of celery-cabbage-pork mix, with very noticeable seasonings reminiscent of Vietnamese egg rolls. A little on the dry side. The good news: easily remedied with duck sauce. The bad news: it's THAT duck sauce. All things considered, average. Pork Fried Rice (on the combo): Yellow, very plain, and neither moist nor dry, but closer to dry. Lingering hints of herbal flavor, though mostly just very plain. Small pieces of pork not that noticeable or helpful. Well below average. I won't call Hunan Place "bad," since everyone's palate is different. Someone who grew up in that part of New England may love it. Let's just say I wasn't feeling this place. With very yellow rice and very orange duck sauce, I have a feeling I won't be alone. read more

We just moved to the neighborhood. Naturally we had to try this place. We had mei fun (the thin) rice noodles with seafood and Kung pao chicken for delivery. Oh and an egg roll. The noodles were bright and clean and not overly salty. I could have done without the extra sweetener in the Kung Pao sauce but both dishes were overall perfectly fine. Driver was nice. The egg roll was ok. I'm still partial to King Wok for that. Really happy to know we have a very good Chinese place close. read more

I had a hard time finding this place on my GPS and was pretty surprised to walk in and see literally NO real restaurant in existence. It looked like a tiny run down place of business in a foreign country with one crappy table and two chairs. It's clearly for pickup only. I will say that fortunately we ordered for pickup and therefore had no expectations of a sit down dining experience (PHEW). Since this is the only Chinese place in the area, we were a little nervous that it would be terrible but the food was actually quite delicious - less greasy than the average Chinese order too. Never been to the actual restaurant, but we've ordered takeout from Hunan Place at least a dozen times since moving here four months ago. Every time, our order has been 100% correct, piping hot and absolutely delicious. Anytime we've had special requests -- szechuan bean curd EXTRA spicy or shrimp lo mein without veggies -- they've been absolutely accomodating. The food is fresh and tasty and at my door in 30 minutes at MOST from when we order. Also very convenient that they will let you pay over the phone with a credit card. I was starving and decided to give this place a try. BIG MISTAKE. The ratty screen door and very sparse interior should've been a huge red flag. I ordered a combination plate and an order of shrimp. I got home to find YELLOW rice with huge pieces of onion that were uncooked. The meat-where do I begin? The ribs were long, wide and very thin with a strange texture. The wings were FRIED and the chicken fingers had a very strange taste. Everything seemed to have some kind of 'smoky' taste to them. I ended up throwing everything in the trash. $14 just gone. The service was quick and the woman i dealt wirh was super sweet...the food on the other hand was terrible....the rangoons and chicken wings were fried as they should be but they both of those and the pork fried rice tasted like there was a bunch of dirt coins mixed in with them.
