However, the inside of this restaurant doesn't look like what's pictured in other Yelp photos. There's a lot of empty space, neutral colours and just looks drab. Although it was dinner time we were the only ones there, so it felt a bit awkward. The menu was different that what's offered online so we asked the server a lot of questions and she was friendly. We ordered the lamb shank and kofta (Iraqi kebab). Each dish comes with your choice of rice or salad. We chose rice (the server informed us that rice will come with a bit of salad, but if you choose salad it won't come with any rice). We liked the spices that they used and the meat was so flavourful.

I was sharing the food with five other people so the three mezze dips was the perfect option, I also added the special dip of the day that had 100% proceeds going to help those in Nepal. I also added one of the pressed Saj, the grilled Kefta a lot easier to share. One of my friends wanted the Lamb wrap so that was included in the order as well. Love how fresh the ingredients were. Each dip had distinctively different flavors and textures. Saj was included two different ways to enjoy with the mezze in its soft flatbread form and as a cracker perfect for dipping. My favorites were the Muhummara and the Nuraniye (Zuchinni Dip). I liked the tanginess of the Muhummara and the fresh lemon forward of the Nuraniye. The Kefta was delicious, I need to carry a knife for situations like this when sharing food we ended up ripping off pieces this came with Labneh. I definitely want to try a wrap next time and well their toum sauce. Service was friendly and helpful when I was explaining there was a group of us sharing the items.

The only seating options are a few large benches on the sidewalk, but there's a poster saying you're welcome to sit at the neighboring bar which opens in the late afternoon provided you purchase a drink as well. Ended up sampling 3 of their wrap options and the Zaatar Wrap was deliciously nutty and fragrant, but texturally there was so many herbs that the center ate a little dry. The Lahme Khuruf (Lamb) was my favorite by far with super juicy ground meat with some tang from the labneh, sweetness, freshness from the tomato, and texture from the pine nuts. Absolute home run on this one! The Awarma and Cheese was a close second, but personally, the flavor profile was just a little less interesting than the lamb. Tip: grab some extra napkins as the wraps can fall apart a bit at the end!

I have been to this cozy cafe full of authentic mediterranean cuisine more times than I can count. I have tried so much of their menu, and have never been disappointed. To mention a few favorites; the falafel is crunchy on the outside, yet the interior is soft and a gorgeous green. The shawerma is the closest I've had to the shawerma I've eaten in the middle-east. Now let me tell you about service. The owners are the sweetest, and were so patient when a customer was rudely demanding money from them. I was so sad to witness something that they unfortunately deal with from time to time. I was with friends having a chicken gyro, when one of the customers who had finished his plate went up to the cashier register and demanded the owner give him a refund on an expired Groupon. Let me tell you, I was shocked... shocked that someone has the decency to attempt such theft so publicly and with such boldness. It is such a shame that the owners and employees have to deal with and please such greedy people. I Never Had a Better Falafel! From the outside, it still looks like the hotdog and gelato place it once was. With all the road construction on 85th, it doesn't make sense to tackle the outside. We have been there 3 times and each time, I was delighted by the food and the warm welcome. The owner, Nany, hails from the storied Port City of Alexandria in Egypt. She believes in using the freshest ingredients. Her falafel is toasty brown on the outside and bright green inside bursting with fresh parsley and cilantro. Everything is enhanced with artful squiggles of hummus! The dinners are a work of art. Their falafels are underrated. I'm sampling recommended falafel gyros locations and so far my favorites come down to this place and Zaina's next to Pike Place. Zaina's, perhaps, brings a better overall gyros experience, though that depends on how you feel about beans. However, Hummus Cafe seasons the falafels more flavorfully. I called back three more times (2:31pm, 2:34pm, 2:35pm), and someone finally picks up on the fourth attempt. I talk to the same person, and make the same request. This time, he asks me to Venmo him at 206-235-0237 to ask for 11 dollars (the cost of the baklava). I do not do Venmo and insisted that I just be refunded. He then asks how he would do that without seeing my credit card. I say if I you've managed to charge me for food, you already have my credit card information. He then asks what time I came in, and out of frustration, I mutter "Jesus Christ...". This triggered the man and he accuses me of using offensive language. I state that his behavior is unprofessional and ask who his manager is. He says that he is owner, which causes me to chuckle and mutter "You're the owner? Holy sh#t." This triggered the man further, to which he yelled "F#CK YOU" and he hung up. I still am without baklava or the refunded cost of two baklava. The shwarma special was average at best. Other than the overwhelming smell of the owner's cologne, the ambiance is not memorable. I will take my business to the tried and true Gyro King.

He told us that they're a couple and that they come by every year to lay eggs and they visit him every night for dinner during this time. He also told us that Cedars of Lebanon has been open for over 40 years and that it used to be so rowdy and exciting. So many people would gather around and spend time in his restaurant but now it's a lot quieter (I'm assuming this is because new, more novel places have been popping up on the Ave). I left this conversation so touched and full of love for this man, I genuinely wish him the best.
