Literally the worst customer service I've ever experienced- so bad I created a yelp account due to it :0 Yesterday May 6, 2017 a group of 20+ students celebrating out senior graduation next week decided it would be fun to do an unofficial bar crawl. We went to one bar beforehand (we were not drunk whatsoever) and decided to stop in for a bite to eat and have another drink. As soon as we came in we noticed the waitress, a long red haired slightly thicker older woman, glaring at us but we were all in high spirits and found a place to sit. The first thing out of her mouth was "If you want to sit here you can't order on separate checks" we agreed and all 20+ of us walked to the counter and figured we would just order drinks as she made us feel unwelcome. The bartender was kind and got us all our drinks but as we were a large group we asked if it were ok if we just sat over near the windows hopefully away from the hostess' section. She then again came over and told us " You can't sit here and order from the bar" and we said we just wouldn't order food from her and she glared and walked away. At this point we were all shocked and about half the group left as no one wanted to be treated like shit while paying for drinks. At least half of us still had drinks left over though and we stayed. Then she came over to literally scream at me " I had not paid for a coke" as prior my spouse had said she'd pay for my drink and hers,l but with all the commotion the bar tender had not added my drink to her ticket and I went up to pay. I told the bartender this woman was treating us terribly and she said nothing and shrugged. At this point we just got up and left. We'd all paid for our drinks not finished them, but felt unwelcome and as a group decided this was just above and beyond inappropriate. In the past I really liked Humbrews there's been good food, music, and drinks but honestly after that I doubt I'll ever return nor many of us from the group. Super out of line and it sucks. I've heard before Humbrews in known for shitty service, but shocked to see it for myself. read more

My favorite time at the Hum Brews is lunch time. It is a big restaurant that is incredibly slow all afternoon. You can get a table and sit and chat with your friends for hours over a few beers and some decent food. The wait staff is nice most of the time. I don't go at night but I'm sure its busy and a totally different atmosphere. I just like the quiet time where you can bring your computer and use their free internet, as you work for hours and drink beers with a friend. The food is pretty good too, for Humboldt at least. It's the only place I know in Arcata to get good wings. I recommend it for business meetings. : ) read more

I don't currently live in Humboldt County, but when I did I would stop by Humbrews atleast once a week for a burger or sometimes just a beer. Always impressed with the food and the entertaining crew. Try something with there wing sauce or just order a side of the wing sauce with fries. Also the honey chipotle sauce with the sweet potato fries is awesome. Slow service, messed up my order. I ordered well done, and I got rare. However, I never sent anything back in my life, so I took a bite, but it was runny red. So I had to send it back after one bite. Sometimes later, he gave me the same burger (with bite marked) and it was still rare. I don't think they did anything to it. At this point, everyone at my table had finished their food. They were not out right rude, but they weren't really apologetic neither. Went elsewhere for dinner that night. read more

Humbrews makes me feel at home every time I come here. The owner, Robin, is a true character with her supple bosom and loud laughter. James is one of the best servers around town. He always adds a titbit of humor to our meal. The burgers are top notch. The wings are great. Order the chèvre cheese on everything. Pretty standard bar food, but they have a list of local beers as long as an old hippy booby swang on Grateful Dead night. Grant is an exceptional cook and gives good advice on art. He has illustrated several pieces ofsh art including "Funlandia" and "Plazadron." There is one employee named Mustard who might have Tourette's. He kept yelling "Jameskyle is a liar!" Over and over again. Jamie the bartender is pretty "rad" too. She kicks people with her tall leather boots. Brad the bartender smells like cabbage and has small hands. read more

Hemp Ale, oh how I love thee! I don't remember much about the food here, but who cares about food when you have Hemp Ale?!? They've got your standard bar grub - wings, fries, nachos, other potato concoctions. If you're looking for culinary delights, what are you doing in a bar anyway? There are far too many good restaurants in Arcata - I suggest you go to one of them. Go to Hum Brews for the large selection of draughts, pool tables, pinballs, football/hockey/baseball, whatever game's on, live music, etc. You won't be disappointed. It is a chil place to go and grab a bear and some pub grub, which is not to bad. i would recommend the appetizer that is mushrooms in some kind of balsamic sauce it is simply great. I give this place a one star why ? Because I have never felt so disrespected because i did not leave a tip. It was Saturday around 10pm when me and a few friends went to eat some wings as we were done we paid it was a combined check so 4 of us paid cash and the last one paid with car since we did not leave a tip because we are all college students and tips are not mandatory. As me and my friend were walking away we got approached by a host and told us "if you can't afford to leave a tip then you shouldn't be eating out" like how rude ! The worst part was he wasn't even our waiter ! Like who are you to tell me to leave a tip! I've been here twice. I'm from San Francisco but came up to look at HSU. This looked like the only place that had some activity while I drove by on friday night. They have a huge selection of beers and i love hemp ale so I had plenty of that. I had they cheese melt I think like a grilled cheese but with 4 kinds of cheese. Pretty good buy a little expensive. The second time I drove up to see Blackbright Morning Light play on a thursday. We came a little early to eat and have some beers before the show. We sat at a table on the side so we got to sit there while they other tables were moved for the show. The stage setup was a little cramp and you could hear the feedback from the microphone and the amp so it was a little annoying but overall a good experience. read more

This place used to be good, to us anyway? Our experience the other night was not good. First, ​the service: Atrocious. If this redhead​ could be any more​ apathetic we might as well have served ourselves and instructed her to snuggle back up to her smartphone, which she was staring at most of the time. Waters went unfilled during the whole service and she barely cracked a smile at all. Her counterpart, a small brunette, just looked straight mean. I kid you not- she walked around with a scowl​ on her face! It's laughable​ when we go out locally as the servers here literally have NO clue what it means to give good service, or hell, any sort of decent service at all. And hey Red, stop placing the food in the worst spot possible on the table! (She kept dropping it off right behind my right shoulder and right under my arm.) Here's your first tip: Serve IN from the left, placing the food in FRONT of the patron, not behind their shoulder! And REMOVE plates from the right! You're welcome! And to the lil guy who kept exiting the kitchen and chatting with his buddies at a table (grabbing a bite of food with his bare hands) in the process...STOP! That you can't do​! It's nasty and against Health Code! I hope to God you washed your hands! In retrospect, the whole place is sort of filthy overall, and none of this was making it better. Case in point: We were seated near the servers' station, which was a messy disarray. But the servers were too busy gossiping​ with each other, staring at their phones and generally being too salty to even care about tidying up their filthy, disorganized mess. (I had to get up and hunt for a sugar caddy myself at the station as our lovely server neglected to bring one with my iced tea.) The food: It's never been amazing, but we do enjoy the large portion salads and the blue cheese dressing tastes from scratch. That being said, the food was sort of gross this time. Maybe our stomachs were turning a bit as we kept seeing Kitchen Guy come out and licking his fingers after taking a bite of his buddy's meal, but really, the food was definitely lackluster this time and certainly not worth the $90 we plunked down for two kids and two adults. Maybe the Salty Servers didn't pay us much mind as we were a family and not bar bro dudes drinkin' it up and flirting with them. Heard there's a new owner, which shows, as this place has definitely gone downhill​. Sad, as HumBrews used to be one of our favorite places in town to grab some eats for the fam. read more

Ahh the Brewery, may I just mention what a strange juxtaposition of lifestyles, with the yoga studio literally upstairs from the brewery. Ok now with that note let's begin with the beer, they've got a wide selection and constantly rotating selection of micro-brews on tap and bottled. Thankfully recently upgraded their wine selection. The pub fare is better than most, my favorite, though definitely not something you should oreder if you want to be kissed, is the Brew-Brat Plate: two types of Brat with a spicy poupon and sweet Larrupins' mustard accompanied by beer-battered(steamed?) Saurkraut with sliced and toasted Brio sweet french baguette you'll surely try in ernest to pile it all atop of, though they don't give enough bread to suffice in my opinion. The Guac-zilla burger is delicious if not overwhelming. Now on to the Nightlife show here are a blast but because of the building structure (imagine a hallway with speakers all at one end) has hit or miss acoustics, I love the staff, the doormen are awesome, also their pool table is the newest of the Arcata bars therefore is the best to play on. Staff is not always the friendliest and the food is so-so at best. It is however a good place to catch a game or have beer. The don't have hard alcohol so keep that in mind. Its isn't a sports bar nor is it a restaurant or a brewery. Its more a blob of all three with a touch of college kid essence.. Horrible place to see a crowded show as the floor gets WET WITH SWEAT and has no ventilation! Some of my friends like their wings but I think they are just so-so as well. I was visiting Arcata for the first time and my friend recommended this place. I really enjoyed myself. They had a good selection on beer and typical bar food. I think the biggest positive for me though was the environment. The staff was very friendly and the vibe was very nice. If you like beer, I recommend stopping by. My friend and I went here around 5 pm on a Saturday night we waited at the bar for 5 to 10 minutes and never got served. All the bartender did was make mixed drinks for the servers. The place has brews in their name but they seem to only want to serve cocktails. We left and drank somewhere else. read more

The food is mediocre and the venue for a band is awful. The sound is muffled and there is no chance of seeing the performers unless you are in the front row because the stage is 6 inches tall:(( Perhaps instead of the pretty pictures they play on the screens next to the stage they should put cameras on the performers so we can see what we paid for. read more

My personal favorite for a relaxing evening with friends. The food is decent, and the beer is good. I like the TVs playing sports, without the audio broadcast so it's not super distracting. The past couple times I've been there they've had some decent live music playing. Not into the music? Rack 'em up for some pool in the front. I've never had a full on meal here, so I can't really comment on that, but the finger foods were good, and service is par for the course. We stopped in here after a day of riding. It turned out to be a good call. They have a great selection of beer on tap and a menu that was large and accommodating for myself and my vegetarian girlfriend. Their burger buns are dry and crumbly and their French fries are cooked in super heavy, dark oil, so they always taste almost burned. Other than that, their food is excellent and their brews even better. If they just fixed those two things I'd be super satisfied. read more

This place is probably the best pub food in all of Humboldt, not to mention one of the best restaurants in Arcata. Consistently delicious food, excellent service, large portions, vegetarian options and amazing burgers. Super fresh, amazing salads, YUMMY wings. We eat here a few times a month and it's always wonderful. The only negative is that the acoustics aren't the best- can get loud at times so it's hard to hear your friends at the table- but the food is well worth it. Never disappointed! read more

I ordered baha tacos and was disapointed. The tortillas were hard the fish was underseasoned (no salt) and the sauce was bland. It came with pico de gallo and the tomatoes were bland and soggy and instead of jalepeno there were pieces of pickle in it. My daughter ordered the sub club with seasoned fries. The sandwich was ok but the fries had some kind chipotle seasoning which was bitter and they were sprinkled with RAW garlic pieces which was extremely unappetizing. I tried my sons burger which was amazing and his unseasoned fries were good. So in short stick with their burgers which are local grass fed beef and delicious. Great place to meet friends or take your family for a meal. The owner is very friendly and the staff is entertaining. The menu has great choices and lots of beers on tap. Weekends have live music and recently a beer tasting event. I highly recommend Humboldt Brews to anyone who likes to have fun. read more
