I was hungry and needed something fast for take out. I was the 3rd in line and waited about 5-10 mins for my order. Not that quick after all. I had the ahi tuna Yuzu rice bowl. The first thing I noticed was the greens and brown layer. Where was the tuna? Instead of the usual poke bowl where individual item was placed by section, they sprinkled the tuna over the bowl then covered with the greens. I would say it was quite skimpy on the tuna. Luckily the bowl was still filling so I did not leave hungry. It was also a bit spicy even though the yuzu had no spice or chili pepper indicated in the description. I think it could be cross contamination from them using the same bowl to mix the ingredients? It was an ok bowl of poke for $14 but not something I will seek out. Very disappointing. The bowl is somewhat gross. So I got the Lei Poke Bowl. What I don't like about the bowl. Too much mayo Rice was mushy avocado made it worse along with the mayo. Hardly any protein (salmon). Tiny This would be one of the most expensive poke bowl I ever had due to the size and content in it. So the Lei Bowl had so much mayo that I felt like by eating it, I am going to gain a lot of weight. It looked so unhealthy and gross at the end. To the point, I couldn't handle it. On top, they said the seasoning is not spicy even though the board showed a chili pepper beside the item. It was spicy. Came here for a quick, healthier option for the food court. I am so glad I finally tried this place. I'm also pleasantly surprised that they have a lot of GF and vegan options! Thank you! I ordered the Cali Veg (miso ginger, red pepper, avocado, carrot, pickled cucumber, black sesame, red pepper string, microgreens, kelp noodle, kale) with tofu and coconut rice. A surprisingly huge takeout portion and lot of veg and sauce. So many nice touches (pickled veg, fresh avocado, and my new favourite - kelp noodles). They also have a station where you can add hot sauce, spicy vinegar, soya sauce, and black or white sesame seeds. It was so delicious that I wish I ordered one to go! Visited: March 29 2019 Decided on a whim and ordered lunch on an app. I've never tried poke bowls before so after quickly browsing through the menu, I chose safely and ordered the $5 kids bowl. I can tell y'all are judging me here but in my defence, I wasn't all that hungry and wanted a light lunch. The kids bowl consisted of coconut rice blend (or sushi rice), pineapples, red peppers, cukes and edamame. It came with a splash of ginger sesame sauce (or ginger tamari sauce if you prefer) on the bottom of the bowl (underneath the rice) Pickup was a breeze, the food was ready by the time I got there. On the side table, there were some black and regular sesame seeds that I can add to the bowl. I did that and it added some texture and a bit more flavour. I really liked the overall taste of the bowl, it's super clean tasting and it felt like a very healthy lunch. The small bowl of rice was surprisingly filling and satisfying. Unfortunatly I can't say this is one my favourite poke places. They don't seem to have the option to create your own bowl. So I recently tried the Lei bowl which was a salmon poke with microgreens, spicy peas, avocado, cucumber, pepper strings and furikake. The flavour was good but I didn't really think the kale work too well in the bowl and it seemed like the bowl was mostly filled with greens. Looking back at the menu, I think they may have given me the wrong bowl. I did talk to the food preparer and he recommended the Tiki. However, I decided on the Nikkei instead because it seemed less spicy. The bowl I received had cucumbers and crispy onions. No sign of the citrus tastes and avocado I was looking forward to. Little did I know - 20 minutes later I'd be racing home from work for the day with cold sweats and what felt like a stomach flu. I mean, aside from the food poisoning that put me out of commission for a solid 4 hours, this place wasn't bad. For food court food this was delicious! We went with what the cashier recommended (first 2 on menu) and everyone in the family enjoyed it. Generous amount of ahi tuna, crunchy tasty toppings, not too salty or sweet or spicy ... everything goes together so well! Love how you can customize the bowl with your choice or protein, rice options or extra veggies instead of rice and the flavours. The girl was really nice and the strawberry smoothie was amazing. I have tried a few bowls at this place and I can say that they are a bit more liberal and creative in what they put into a poke bowl than most places. What that means is that you will get the taste that you can't really get at other poke establishments. There are some bowls that I would never order again, but there are some that I actually ended up liking. The "Lei" bowl is not bad - the combination of the flavors is not too strong for my taste. The reason I'm deducting two stars is that the service at this place is definitely getting worse. I have been a long-time customer since their very first months in this food court. The people who work here used to smile a lot, answer your questions without showing signs of annoyance, and in general were very friendly. In the past month or two, I can see that it's changing after the place got more popular. The same lady I saw a lot has developed quite a bit of attitude and no longer smiled. Every time I picked up my order I no longer felt like a valued customer but just someone in their busy pipeline. I've hesitated writing this review because I won a $100 giftcard to Hula Poke, but it was my horrid customer service experience that has pushed me to write this. Insert major eyeroll to me for complaining about free things but having been someone who has worked in the service industry, it's the worst when people make you feel like you're cheating them or making a guest feel like a nuisance. First of all, THE FOOD: Satisfaction with the poke bowls? On a scale of bad to the most delicious thing I've ever eaten, it isn't a place I'd go out of the way for, but if I was in the food court, I'd consider it. It is a little pricey though. Their fish is fresh and I like the option to sprinkle on sesame seeds and some of the sauces to your taste buds (and they have really interesting flavour combos - some bad some good), HOWEVER but don't buy a gift card. I won the gift card about a year ago. Went to the storefront. They had no clue what I was talking about. I emailed the person I had been in contact with and she mailed the card to me (in a Christmas card and apologized which was very sweet). I tried to use it the first time, it didn't work and they had to force the payment through. I would have had 80-something remaining. I then brought some friends through in the summer because I don't go that often. Again, now in front of my two guests, the gift card didn't work. I was embarrassed. They took the gift card this time, wrote down the amount of money I had purchased and told me to come back with the receipt and they grabbed my name. Well, it was about a month before I had time to go downtown again and inquire about getting the remainder of the card back (yes, I know, I feel like a not so nice human to be complaining about the fact that I've gotten free food from a contest). At the end of my final endeavour down there, they decided to keep the card and told me their manager would be reaching out to me. I handed over my name and email. It's been over a month and I've heard nothing. All these interactions have made me feel like a criminal. My whole experience here has been pretty uncomfortable and embarrassing, especially bringing friends and when I won the card I was told to treat friends to Hula Poke. As someone who has waitressed/served/been a barista, been in management in the food and beverage industry, I don't feel this was handled well. In the end, I just feel if someone was actually going to get their coworker or friend a gift card to Hula Poke, the company needs to get their gift card system sorted out. I'm sure I've eaten about 2/3rd of the gift card and yes, again, it was free, but the whole experience ended up being much more annoying and disappointing. read more

I only got their coconut infused drinks but that really sold me. It's the best $4 I spent that day and the only downside is that it's all the way in downtown! I got the pineapple lime one on the recommendation of the friendly and helpful server and I found it refreshing: tart, sweet (but not overly so), complete with bits of coconut and pineapple flesh. There's a new bowl in town! Yes, Hula Bowl has opened in the Pacific Centre Food Court, and what a welcome addition the Hula Pokes are. Lots of variety on the Hula Poke Bowl menu, smashingly delish toppings on a base of rice with yuzu kale. All leaf, no rib. Koko was my choice - Gochujang salmon nicely spiced, with kimchi, white onion, avocado,cucumber, black sesame, cilantro all enveloped with miso ginger vinaigrette. Portion is large - I brought half of mine home with me. A mountain of delight. Nice to devour this with wooden utensils provided - a feel-good gesture. Ancho with rockfish, Nikkei with citrus ahi tuna, Tiki with togarashi spicy tuna- a taste to suit everyone. Veg bowls are built on a base of kelp noodle salad. Tostadas are on offer - the same toppings on a black bean tostada. Welcome drinks are Wai-Tais, kombucha, and Lava, a coffee poured over coconut milk. Friendly staff, a sweet manager named Johnny, everyone happy and knowledgeable. Hula is small, just to the left as you enter the food court. Very disappointing. The flavours seemed really interesting, so I got the Nikkei bowl. No hint of citrus like it says on the menu. The sauce itself was quite tasty, but definitely not fit for Hawaiian or Asian flavours, and definitely not good with fish. There was way too much sauce though, so I could barely taste anything else. The salmon was cut so small, and it almost seemed a little cooked? It seemed more opaque then when you get sushi or poke elsewhere. Also, there was barely any of the fish. Price wise, it's expensive for how little you get. I'd say just go over a few blocks to Pokerrito on Dunsmuir. read more

Yes, it is expensive. But it's also one of the better poke bowls I've had in my time. I got the Ancho bowl with coconut rice and sockeye salmon. Wow! Super impressed how amazing Hula was! Really enjoyed the Tiki! So much, that I came back for it the next day for it! It's a warm little store but packs a lot of great vibes. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful with making you feel welcomed, especially in a food court so that's always a bonus. Although it may be a bit smaller in size than other poke bowls offered in downtown Vancouver, they can't beat the quality that Hula offers. I've tried a few different bowls at Metrotown Hula Poke in Burnaby. All were not good. What's worse was that when we went to pay for our order, the cashier put in her own tip! I will always give 10% or more tip at a food court, but I do not appreciate the staff entering their own tip without even telling the customer. It's so wrong on so many levels. Do not order via app (Uber Eats, Foodie, etc.) Ordered before 12pm to the same neighbourhood and 45mins later, the restaurant hadn't even started to prepare the dish on-site. The delivery time was pushed 5-6 times and I've had to sit in the office and wait, wait, wait. Finally called Uber Eats to cancel the order, because the restaurant has NO CONTACT INFO. So delays happen and mistakes happen sometimes. Restaurants get busy. But when Uber Eats told me that the restaurant refused to cancel the order when they called, even though the restaurant hadn't started to actually prepare the food... Came on to Yelp to write this review, and saw other experiences. Should have checked before ordering. Stuck without a lunch and have to go back to work in 5 minutes. Never again. read more

Love this place. The Yuzu is my favourite poke bowl in town. I often get the kale only option. Staff is super friendly. Not a big fan of their drinks, but I just don't order them. The only knock is it's a bit expensive (13-17 bucks, if you get double fish), but it's a healthy way to eat out if you're downtown. read more

The display of Hula Poke is beautiful, but the food itself is very disappointing. I got the NIKKEI bowl, the price is already a bit higher than other Poke places and is smaller but I figured quality over quantity.. I was wrong! The flavours were awful... The grapefruit made the whole bowl very bitter... not tangy. My tuna was still frozen... It was just a terrible experience. I ended up throwing the whole thing out and getting Taco Time :( read more

My husband and I both tried a different bowl and I have to say that the flavours were delicious!! Best kale salad and rice flavours (yuzu dressing) and it was spicy how I like it. My only reason for the low score is for the amount of poke they give you. After all this is a poke place!!! I felt like I just paid for a delicious kale salad. Lol for the same price there's a lot of other poke places in town that give you more. Went here for the first time and didn't know what to expect. While everyone else in the Food Court (which is now known as the 'Urban Eatery'), were eating A&W burgers, I was enjoying this very filling, healthy colorful dish of wild salmon,coconut rice and Californian greens! Located inside the mall this place can get busy during the lunch time and it is popular, however, popular doesn't mean that it is better. It is one of the cheaper places in the mall to eat if you're working in the building. I came here back in December for a business meeting. This was a suggestion of a potential client, therefore, went with it. He bought lunch but can't complain other than the fact that this wasn't the best Poke and wouldn't voluntarily come here. For starters they were skimpy on the protein but heavy on the sauce in fact I think I ate a whole dish of sauce rather than actual poke bowl. It was like eating something out of a science fiction movie; mushy and thick with WTF looks. I felt as though I was in a lunch scene in the Matrix. I felt bad for the client who just bought me a bowl of mayo...literally. I did take a picture and posted it on my Instagram. After being an avid Pokerrito and The Poke Guy fan for years, I decided to give these guys a try after i signed up for the Ritual app. I can't believe they charge $13+ for this bowl? It was literally a bowl full of kale, 5 edamame, too much cilantro and 4 tiny cubes of fish. Participating in the launch of the new Ritual app would have given them a chance to shine, but unfortunately not only have they NOT gained a new customer, they now have someone writing bad reviews and suggesting friends and family avoid their food.
