Loco moco
Brent O.

Such a great find! Was traveling up the 101, and its right off the freeway. Breakfast and lunch, we came in the middle of the day and had so much to choose from. My wife had corned beef hash, so good! The meat to potato ratio was right on point. I had the loco moco- not the norm. It wasn't hamburger, but more like teriyaki beef. Both were huge and could probably have been shared. The service was yuck and friendly. I really felt like I was in a Hawaiian diner. Very laid back feel.

We had a great brunch here!! My Husband had the loco moco. The flavors and meat were delicious. I had the Ruben and loved it. Service was perfect. Everyone was very helpful. The menu is full of so many surprises besides breakfast. Next time I want the chicken noodle stir fry!!! They do serve beer and mimosas. We will be back next time we pass through.

I wanted to go to the Chinese place Nextdoor, but it was closed. So I tried Hugo's. I'm pretty sure my food was unfortunately from frozen, and it tasted like it. My food took a while as well, service wise. I don't think I will be returning.

Hugo's was amazing. The food was delicious and it has the most welcoming vibe. I ordered the french toast and I loved it- It was thick and buttery. The owners are the sweetest and the service was great. I would definitely come back here.

Tri-tip sandwich with fruit and miso soup. Neat and fruit and soup was great, bread was flimsy and fell apart while you ate it.

My wife and I were in Carpinteria for 2 1/2 weeks and we got off the bus from LAX at Albertson's and headed across the street to Hugo's for some nourishment about 10 AM. Noon in Minneapolis. We sat down at one of the booths and I really wanted a draft beer. OK, no. I really wanted a Diet Coke from a dispenser. Nope. $8 for a beer and $3.50 for a can of soda. Water please. This was insanity. I ordered the tri-tip with fruit and my wife got the miso soup. It came out in about 8-10 minutes. We only had our water refilled once, and we had to ask. The place is Asian-fusian, so he tri-tip was like teriyaki and it was amazing. unfortunately, they don't toast the roll they put it on, so it really isn't a sandwich. There is no way you could eat this like a grilled cheese sandwich. It becomes almost comical, if not frustrating that you cannot get a bite of bread and meat and tomato in one swallow. I should give three stars, but the fruit was beautiful and the miso soup was tasty always and the meat was amazing. I almost wish they would just have an option of just the meat over cauliflower rice. Maybe they do and I did not see. The bread was a major let down. I would never go again, but people seemed to be enjoying their breakfast.

Service with a smile and good food to boot. It was relatively quiet I came in at around 10 am. Their smile comes across as genuinely happy for you to be there. I got a basic 2 sausage, egg, pancake order and the sausage was genuinely bursting with flavor eggs were yummy and pancakes were solid. In the middle of my breakfast a patron was leaving and the owners says see you tomorrow thank you. And I completely understand why someone would have such loyal customers. I highly recommend you come sit down and eat here if you can

We passed by on the way to SF and decide to eat breakfast on the way .Found this amazing breakfast cafe right by the highway. This is a family run business and they really take care their restaurant and customer! Thank you so much for the amazing food and service! We enjoy so much especially the giant French Toast, this is the Hong Kong style French toast which is extra large, thick and fluffy! Highly recommended!

$14.50...money not well spent.

$14.50...eggs ordered over medium came over hard, country potatoes ordered but got oily hashbrowns, three greasy sausage links, toast and zero follow up from the server. This place used to have ok food at a good value. Sorry but truth is, I will not return.

Great vibe inside

Hugo's is a must, so so so good! Great food and excellent service, will definitely stop by every time we're in the area

This is my second time staying here…read more The first time we got the deluxe room with the HUGE window-- definitely recommend this room! There is a table right at the window so you can enjoy dining/reading/sitting with an incredible and private VIEW! This time we got the only accommodation that has TWO rooms-- so it felt like a small apartment without a kitchen! It's extra spacious and allowed everyone to have their privacy. The rooms are SUPER cute! Yes, the furniture is old. Yes, it looks like grandma's house. But from someone who has stayed in luxury resorts most of the time, these charming and timeless rooms have a special place in my heart. I'm not even sure if this makes sense, but the ambiance welcomes you with open arms and makes you feel right at home. It truly feels like I came to grandmas house. It feels so familiar and I know for a fact, staying here is healing my inner child each time. We all know the views are absolutely incredible-- I mean... breakfast buffet overlooking the cliffs AND you can watch surfers and dolphins in the distance while you enjoy your food? Can't get better than that. You can go visit the shore during low tide or walk over to the pier that leads to an island! This hotel is tucked away from the city and I absolutely love the seclusion. Although it's right next to the highway, staying here feels like stepping into a peaceful parallel universe-- the world still moves on the other side of the wall, but you're suspended in your own quiet, dreamlike bubble until it's time to return to reality. The service is too notch! She has gone out of her way to accommodate us and never made any request feel like it was too much or an inconvenience. If you thought this place couldn't get any better, it DOES-- they have a Restaurant that serves lunch and dinner!!! Let me stop before I write a novel. This has literally become my favorite hotel.

There is a popular and excellent restaurant that is open to the public. It's just over one hour to arrive there from my home in Los Angeles. However, the room itself is rather small and could use a renovation. There were no grab bars in the shower or by the toilet. The tiny refrigerator froze everything, including an injectable medication. But the magic of being on the water and hearing waves makes it worth the costs.

This place was buzzing on a Sunday afternoon. We waited maybe 15 minutes before we were seated out on the patio, which was shaded and nicely kept. We all were happy with our food. I got the green chile scramble with toast and hashbrowns, and I feel like that's a pretty simple brunch, but I was in heaven. Great food. My only complaints were that my iced tea just tasted like water, and there were no toilet liners in the restroom. Neither of those things would make me want to stay away, but I just feel are important to point out. I still loved this place. Absolutely loved this cafe, the staff was friendly and helpful and happy to be there…read more The drinks were amazing, sadly genetics have decided that milk is actively trying to kill me so I have to drink alt milks like oat or almond, this place makes their own fresh alt milks daily and it's like nothing else I have tried, it doesn't feel like a second thought it is genuinely good. And it's a such a cute little cafe and a quiet town, we have been itching to go back ever since, to try more of their food items and of course get more coffee :).

I was excited to try this cafe with my friends after seeing that it had many positive Yelp reviews,…read morebut I was severely disappointed in the taste of my drink and in the service throughout our visit. Though the shop was cute, clean, and had a lovely covered patio outside, I wouldn't recommend it for those stopping by for coffee on road trips. I got a seasonal spring drink called the Irish Cream Mocha and asked for it iced. Unfortunately, it just tasted like chocolate milk. Now, I like a good chocolate milk, but not when I paid for a specialty flavored mocha! I didn't detect an Irish cream flavor or even a hint of mocha. As a latte, it was way too milky and lacked the depth of an espresso drink. Contrary to its description on the menu, it wasn't balanced at all. How misleading. My friend tried one of the craft energy drinks, and it looked pretty, but she said that it was flat and tasted kinda meh. She also got a visually-appealing soda, which apparently tasted much better compared to the energy drink. Another friend ordered the seasonal Dulce de Leche Latte, and she mentioned that it was a bit too light-tasting as a latte. That checks out since my mocha also seemed like it was missing the coffee component haha. Her latte did taste like a caramelly drink made with actual dulce de leche, but she didn't appreciate that the "light" dusting of cinnamon was more like a heaping teaspoon of it thrown into the drink. We noticed that our receipts showed a higher price than what was printed on the menus. We only found out after paying and reviewing the receipts that they charge $0.75 for making drinks iced. We weren't informed of this charge by any of the ladies at the registers upon ordering, and we didn't see any signs stating that iced drinks would incur an additional charge. No explanation anywhere. Another thing that threw me off was when a certain barista handed off the completed drinks in the pickup area. She wasn't wearing gloves, and I don't think she washed her hands in-between tasks, but she was placing the drinks onto the counter while holding them by the top part, aka the lid from where people drink! I was shocked at how unbothered she was while doing that, as if that's how she was trained, or she was never corrected.

His didn't arrive until about 10-15 minutes later, and they forgot the bagel entirely. The server dropped the food off and disappeared. His potatoes were completely raw, the food was barely warm, and the corned beef hash had zero crisp to it. He took one bite and spit it out. We sat there waiting forever just to tell someone because no server ever checked back. Eventually another employee dropped off the missing bagel and immediately ran off again. My husband finally had to walk inside himself to tell them the food was cold and undercooked. A few minutes later they brought the same plate back out, clearly just microwaved. The eggs were now rubber, the hash was still awful, and the potatoes were still terrible. He went back inside a second time and told them to forget it and just charge us for the bagel, coffee, and my breakfast. Even getting the check took another 20 minutes. What's most frustrating is that nobody seemed to care. No apology, no urgency, no effort to fix anything properly. My breakfast was mediocre at best. The eggs and bacon were fine, but the French toast was cold and looked like plain toast, and they covered the potatoes in cheese without mentioning it. After reading other recent reviews, it's clear this wasn't just a one-off bad day. The common theme seems to be cold food, long waits, inattentive service, and management/staff who simply don't care. This place is overpriced, overrated, and unfortunately living off its past reputation. Maybe just stick with bagels.
