Loco moco
Brent O.

Such a great find! Was traveling up the 101, and its right off the freeway. Breakfast and lunch, we came in the middle of the day and had so much to choose from. My wife had corned beef hash, so good! The meat to potato ratio was right on point. I had the loco moco- not the norm. It wasn't hamburger, but more like teriyaki beef. Both were huge and could probably have been shared. The service was yuck and friendly. I really felt like I was in a Hawaiian diner. Very laid back feel.

This is the cutest little restaurant in carp. The service was so fast, and the food was great. We got French toast with bacon and eggs, and a breakfast melt and both came out writhing 10 minutes and totally hit the spot. I'll be visiting carpinteria again very soon just for brunch at this place. Our server was so sweet and helpful.

We had a great brunch here!! My Husband had the loco moco. The flavors and meat were delicious. I had the Ruben and loved it. Service was perfect. Everyone was very helpful. The menu is full of so many surprises besides breakfast. Next time I want the chicken noodle stir fry!!! They do serve beer and mimosas. We will be back next time we pass through.

I wanted to go to the Chinese place Nextdoor, but it was closed. So I tried Hugo's. I'm pretty sure my food was unfortunately from frozen, and it tasted like it. My food took a while as well, service wise. I don't think I will be returning.

Tri-tip sandwich with fruit and miso soup. Neat and fruit and soup was great, bread was flimsy and fell apart while you ate it.

My wife and I were in Carpinteria for 2 1/2 weeks and we got off the bus from LAX at Albertson's and headed across the street to Hugo's for some nourishment about 10 AM. Noon in Minneapolis. We sat down at one of the booths and I really wanted a draft beer. OK, no. I really wanted a Diet Coke from a dispenser. Nope. $8 for a beer and $3.50 for a can of soda. Water please. This was insanity. I ordered the tri-tip with fruit and my wife got the miso soup. It came out in about 8-10 minutes. We only had our water refilled once, and we had to ask. The place is Asian-fusian, so he tri-tip was like teriyaki and it was amazing. unfortunately, they don't toast the roll they put it on, so it really isn't a sandwich. There is no way you could eat this like a grilled cheese sandwich. It becomes almost comical, if not frustrating that you cannot get a bite of bread and meat and tomato in one swallow. I should give three stars, but the fruit was beautiful and the miso soup was tasty always and the meat was amazing. I almost wish they would just have an option of just the meat over cauliflower rice. Maybe they do and I did not see. The bread was a major let down. I would never go again, but people seemed to be enjoying their breakfast.

Hugo's was amazing. The food was delicious and it has the most welcoming vibe. I ordered the french toast and I loved it- It was thick and buttery. The owners are the sweetest and the service was great. I would definitely come back here.

Service with a smile and good food to boot. It was relatively quiet I came in at around 10 am. Their smile comes across as genuinely happy for you to be there. I got a basic 2 sausage, egg, pancake order and the sausage was genuinely bursting with flavor eggs were yummy and pancakes were solid. In the middle of my breakfast a patron was leaving and the owners says see you tomorrow thank you. And I completely understand why someone would have such loyal customers. I highly recommend you come sit down and eat here if you can

We passed by on the way to SF and decide to eat breakfast on the way .Found this amazing breakfast cafe right by the highway. This is a family run business and they really take care their restaurant and customer! Thank you so much for the amazing food and service! We enjoy so much especially the giant French Toast, this is the Hong Kong style French toast which is extra large, thick and fluffy! Highly recommended!

$14.50...money not well spent.

$14.50...eggs ordered over medium came over hard, country potatoes ordered but got oily hashbrowns, three greasy sausage links, toast and zero follow up from the server. This place used to have ok food at a good value. Sorry but truth is, I will not return.

Breakfast burrito came with extra hashbrowns, need i say more? Plus the waitress was really nice and fast service

I really wanted to like this place. The people were friendly, the other customers all seemed to regulars, and it has a unique old school diner/ Asian restaurant vibe. Sadly, the food and prices kept it from getting a higher score. My biscuits and gravy looked and tasted canned. My companion's corned beef sandwich was okay but nothing exciting. It was an edible meal, but by the time we paid the premium price we really felt disappointed. For the prices they charge you expect high quality homemade food.

I waited for a while at check in before being "greeted" by a homely blonde, tight lipped woman with glasses, slightly resembling Angela from "the office" who was very short with me, and seemed to be in a terrible mood and taking it out on a customer. I wasn't going to let her get to me so I avoided her my entire weekend there. Life is too short to argue with people who are seemingly miserable. I did however, have a very wonderful dinner at the restaurant downstairs even though I had no reservations they sat me and the food was absolutely delicious and the service was great. Although I will say, they do seem to be understaffed and overworked. Luckily the rest of my visit was nice. Room was pretty clean and pool was nice and not too crowded. Would be willing to give her another chance if somebody else, would greet you with a smile at the front and that's all I have to say!

If you want something next to the beach and peaceful, this is the place! The rooms are just fine. Clean and all you really need for a place to rest. Staff at the hotel and restaurant are lovely. The view and lounge chairs over looking the ocean makes this stay 10000% worth it. The restaurant is cute as well. The food is decent and truly nothing beats watching the moon rise over the mountains and ocean while you dine. If you want a fancy beach hotel, go stay at the ritz. This inn is cute, quaint and cozy. Can't wait to come back!

Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best, especially given the price. And then there was the "croissant." I put that word in quotation marks because what arrived on my plate was less a croissant than a bread roll experiencing an identity crisis. A croissant is supposed to be a minor miracle of pastry engineering: dozens of buttery laminated layers, a crisp golden shell that shatters when you tear into it, and an airy, irregular honeycomb interior. You should finish one surrounded by enough flaky debris to require a small cleanup operation. This thing was pale, squat, dense, doughy, and almost completely devoid of discernible layers. The interior had all the airy honeycomb structure of a hot dog bun. It looked as though someone had taken a dinner roll, bent it into a crescent, pinched the ends, and hoped geometry would do the rest. There was no shattering crust. No honeycomb. No glorious buttery lamination. No shower of flakes. Just a soft crescent-shaped bread product that had apparently once heard a croissant described from another room. I have eaten spectacular croissants. I have eaten mediocre croissants. I have eaten mass-produced grocery-store croissants that, whatever their shortcomings, at least understood the assignment. This one appeared not to have read the syllabus. So: lovely patio. Potent cold brew. A perfectly pleasant place to sit for a while. But if pastry is the reason you're going, just make a U-turn. Photographic evidence attached. France, please accept my apologies.
