Incredible sunday brunch experience. Everything is delicious. Love the green salsa for chips, enchiladas and tamales. Best flan and tres leches my mexican hubby has ever tasted! Go here and dress cute and take someone you love!

For years I have heard about brunch at Hugo's, but have yet to sample it myself. So for our 2-year anniversary we decided to come out and knock it off our list. We put in a reservation for Sunday afternoon, and the place was hoppin'. The savory brunch buffet was quite to the affair with a really long bar. And they also had a second dessert buffet bar as well. They did an excellent job of replacing things that went fast. There was so much on this buffet that I didn't even get to try everything before I was full. That's a yay for their selection, and it's also a yay that I don't eat as much as I used to.#winning. We also had a cocktail each with brunch, but those weren't that. Good to be honest. She had a mezcal mango drink that just didn't hit well, and I had their special margarita. That was very tasty but not worth the excessive price when there were $10 options available. The service here was impeccable. Our wait staff came through each time we were up to snag our plates, and check on our water, and make sure we were taken care of throughout. They also put out a nice message about our anniversary on the table when we arrived, and provided us a dessert on the house specifically for our occasion as well. It was a very nice touch and goes that extra distance. Overall an excellent experience!

Hi, I love visiting this neighborhood corner piece as much as possible. I like going to the happy hour for the great deals and margaritas. This time I went and got the ceviche, taquitos, and a few tacos. Absolutely delicious with great service. The vibe in the restaurant is beautiful and impressive. Definitely a must in Montrose! Thanks, Bob B.

Booked a reservation for the Sunday brunch to celebrate Valentine's. I was interested to try their Mexican approach to brunch. The buffet had a nice variety of savory options including: mini quesabirria tacos, lamb roast, carnitas, chips and salsa, various vegetables and salad, enchiladas, tamales, ceviche, etc. My favorites were honestly the Brussels sprouts and the scalloped potato which doesn't really make me want to come back. The quesabirria tacos and poblano egg was nice too. My deal is, how do you mess up the Mexican rice?? It was wet and undercooked. If you can't get the rice right, you're cooked in my opinion. A lot of the food was room temp. The area where the food is served is a little cramped. The service was good. They had some live music going which was pleasant. Overall the experience was lackluster and I would not come back for the food. The vibe going on felt super casual, we paid $100 for 2 but it's not giving valet restaurant.

So good! The tamales, flan, and ceviche are a must. Service is quick and good. Happy hour deal is a steal 3-6 Mon-Fri.

Hugo's concepts (H Town Restaurant Group) consistently outperforms. The vibe on a weekend night at Hugo's is fairly electric, acoustics do make a loud crowd louder. Service is always great and the food is always so flavorful. I've enjoyed the attention from the General Managers who know their wine list well and help with pairings.

Absolutely delicious food and 5 star service. I had the chapulines and the cabrito. Highly recommend them. Their old fashioned was also very good. The pirámide and tres leches were delicious as well. One thing that I will critique is the portions are not big. Do not expect portions to be like those of most Mexican restaurants.

Hugo's is a Houston staple that always hits the spot. We made a last-minute reservation for Houston Restaurant Weeks and were glad we did. They offer three HRW menus: seafood-focused, meat-focused, and vegetarian. Our table tried everything except the vegetarian, which is actually the one I went for, along with the optional cocktail pairing. At $33 for three thoughtfully crafted drinks, it is a steal. The Menú Nuestro Estilo was well-balanced and full of flavor. The squash blossom soup and quesadilla were delicate and comforting. The braised oxtail empanadas with cilantro aioli were rich and paired perfectly with the Paloma de Guayaba, which was bright and fruity with just the right tartness. For the main course, the grass-fed Black Angus skirt steak with poblano peppers, onions, arroz a la Mexicana, and refritos was tender and flavorful. Mine came out a little undercooked, but the wait staff was quick and receptive when I sent it back. I skipped the accompanying tortillas this time, but the fresh-made corn tortillas here are always a hit. It paired beautifully with the Un Día con Sandía, a smoky and refreshing mezcal and watermelon cocktail. Dessert was a decadent duo of milk and dark chocolate cake with pistachio and cherry compote, rounded out by the Carajillo Oaxaqueño, a coffee dessert cocktail with a mezcal twist. By the end, I was completely stuffed. The best part of Houston Restaurant Weeks is knowing your night out also supports the Houston Food Bank, and Hugo's makes it easy to enjoy a great meal while giving back. Service was warm and attentive, and the lively atmosphere made it feel like the perfect Houston night out. Hugo's has been delivering memorable meals for years, and Restaurant Weeks is just another reminder why it remains a go-to spot in the city.

5 stars as usual! My husband and I brought an out of town guest to Hugo's for lunch. He travels the world, and absolutely loved this place! (We knew he would) .... From the first class service, to the beautiful bright dining room Hugo's is so fabulous. Our friend ordered the Carne Brava, my husband had the Lechon, and I had the Tostados De Camarones. And of course the guacamole appetizer was divine. Sadly they started eating theirs before I could get a picture! This place is a must try if you've never been! Simply amazing.

Still one of the best ayce brunches in town! Live musics starting around 11:30. Place gets packed so make sure to get a resy!

I am overall impressed with Hugo's vegan options. The vegan enchiladas, Aguachile de Palmito and chips and guac (be sure to ask for vegan version) were all delicious! My only complain was my server wasn't very nice or attentive the 2nd time I came.

It's been a very long time since I've written a review. So I'll be starting with my Houston favorites. My late wife and I came here for 15 years at least. I still come, at least once a week and sit at the bar. What sets Hugo's apart is their service. Greeted with a smile and handshake/fist bump every time. They give you a "welcome home" feel, which is exactly what you want when you go out to dinner, esp solo. As for the food and drinks, it's always reliable. When I was younger, we'd opt for the Lechon and Taquitos. Now, I get the fresh fish of the day w/ cauliflower, habanero, and guac. If you are looking to be healthy, this is the place. You can say no oil and get a high protein, high fiber dinner no problem. My favorite spirit (by far) is Mezcal. I've been drinking this far before it became popular. Who made it mainstream? Bobby Flay did way back in the day. Think Mesa Grill at Caesars Palace back in 2012. Come for the consistent food and drinks, return for the service. Hats off all staff members from the bartenders, mgt., hostesses, and even valet. A true Houston staple. I post stories of what I eat on IG. Ish.in.Houston

    CHAMORRO DE PUERCO
    Haley M.

My friends and I made a dinner reservation at Hugo's for the 4th of July and overall had an amazing experience. I valeted due to the lack of street parking which is complimentary (at least when I went). My group was already seated so I joined them and our waiter came by to check in and ask if I was ready within 5 min of my arrival. I ended up splitting 2 dishes with my friend (the enchiladas of the day - chicken with a tomatillo sauce and the Chamorro de puerco) as well as a glass of prosecco. The food was 10/10, both dishes were delicious and so was the drink. It came out pretty quickly as well. Our server gave us great service and helped us split the check as well. Overall, this was a great first experience at Hugo's. The decor is really beautiful inside, bathrooms were clean and the lighting is dim which is great for a date night. I'd highly recommend others giving this place a try and my next visit will be for the Sunday Buffet that I have heard about!

What are other dining options are available during brunch hours?

I believe it's just the buffet! There's something there for everyone! When I went the had quesadillas, carnitas, eggs, paella, chips, salsas, ceviche, duck, corn pudding beans, rice, grilled veggies and much much more! They also have a massive…

    Are they doing Sunday brunch?

    Yes, I think until 2pm.

    Is there a Happy hour?

    Yes, 3-6:30pm

    Any outdoor seating?

I do not believe so. I have been there a couple times and do not recall seeing anyone sitting outside, offered to sit outside, and seen any sitting furniture outside.

Have they resumed Sunday Brunch buffet?

    YES! Finally!

How much is the Sunday brunch?

They aren't doing it right now bc of COVID :( but their regular menu is AMAZING!!!!!!

Do they still do Sunday brunch buffet?

    No they don't

    Is there a dress code?

No- there is no jacket required but I would wear something nice since it is a nice restaurant.

How much per person is the brunch buffet?

    Think it's $35 per person

Is this a good place to celebrate my 18th birthday?

Yes, I think so. It's spacious and the plates are big enough to share.

Do they not have frozen margaritas? This seems odd for a Mexican place but I didn't see any in any of the pictures nor did I see any mention of them on the limited pics of the cocktail menu that I saw. Does anyone know if they have frozen margaritas?

If you are looking for crappy, sour mix laden, from a box mix, frozen margaritas you should probably go someplace like Ruchis. Hugo's has the most fabulous drink menu, certainly some of the most interesting margaritas I've ever seen and the wines by…

    When are mariachis playing?

    I think it's Sunday brunch.

What is the best dinner item? Thinking abut coming here for a special occasion. Good choice?

the ribs. the carnitas and the carne brava are good too

Is this place like a buffet Friday night?

No, only time for buffet style dining is Sunday Brunch until 3pm. Make reservations if you're serious ;)

Do they serve ceviche with Sunday brunch? If they do, any different kinds? My wife loves ceviche and we would like to go but they have to have ceviche she says!!!

When I was there a few months ago, they did not have ceviche out as a buffet offering, but they were taking orders, paid for separately. If you are willing to pay separately, you can have the ceviche.

She was attentive to our needs but all business. We started with guacamole and queso. Guac was a huge portion with all the add ins. Queso was delish and served with fried flour tortillas (my fav). The gratis green dip, red sauce, and thick, crisp chips were on par. The fajitas. Just so so. Honestly, it reminded me of Taco Cabana. Very disappointing. Very little flavor and tough. The rice was yucky, the refried beans were the worst! Reminded us of the frito lay bean dip in a can. Even the Borracho beans were bad. HEB's in the can are far better. We received 2 corn and 2 flour tortillas. Fajitas served with pico, guac, sour-sour cream (I didn't even like that). Iced tea was fair. All in all, Fajitas very disappointing. If we had not been on the best fajita quest, I most likely would have ordered the chicken caldo soup. That never disappoints.

The chips were on the thicker side, but were crispy and not stale or chewy at all. Each of the salsas were quite different, and two were served warm, which we really liked! For the price, I'd consider getting the chips and salsa as a non-negotiable, honestly. For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. My husband felt like his ramen could have included more meat, but aside from that everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The highlight was probably the desserts, though! Arrived on Sunday evening around 7:30. Was sat immediately. Not my first time here so I knew the menu, my friends did not. So they needed time to see what drinks they wanted because they like cocktails and the menu is not small and they had to choose which ones they wanted because the options are good. When they decided, the cocktails straggled out. Two came out but the other two did not, They just sat at the bar as my friends sat with there with their drinks in front of them waiting on ours so we can toast to a wonderful day with a new member of the group. You would have thought the other staff would step in or at least the bartender would see that the waiter was in the weeds and needed help. That's when I knew we should have not come. The food was all lukw warm. The appetizer of queso was like warm with chunks of cheese floating around and some of the chips were fresh and others stale. A mixed bag you can say. My Flautas where luke warm, so was the side of beans and rice. My friends said their tacos were okay. My friend who got the Caesar Salad, there was no dressing on the salad not was there a side of dressing that came with it. We had to ask for it. I did not have the energy to try to keep wrangling the waiter. If you want to shut the kitchen down early because the day was long I get it. Let the customer know, I get it. I used to wait tables to but I would never give people luke warm food or luke service. The staff seems not to have one anothers back. I did not eat my food, I took my food home to reheat it so I could eat it at the proper temperature. My friend took his salad home because he had more Caesar dressing at home. Left a bad taste in my mouth and very disappointed. The service and food from the last time compared to this visit was night and day. Total miss. $200.00 thrown away. I paid because I could not let my friends waiste there money on someplace I raved about. Maderas is really a small cute spot. It's rare I have bad service when I go out to eat because I am not a difficult customer and I know I am not the only one they are serving. I will wait for good food and sit back and enjoy the atmosphere and my friends until it arrives. I would not put pressure on the staff or the kitchen. Also I will not arrive just before closing and make a resteraunt and it's staff stay open late because I am hungry. I rather come when the staff and the restaurant wants to recieve customers.

Mexican Sugar breaks that mold completely. This is the most legit, wonderful, bougie, over-the-top Mexican restaurant I have ever been to, and I mean that as the highest compliment possible. This was my second trip to Mexican Sugar. The first was in Grapevine. After this visit to the Montrose location, I have officially decided that when I am in Texas, I will seek these places out. They are that good. First, dress up. I doubt there is an actual dress code, but this is not the place where I am showing up looking like I just finished mowing the yard. Come here to be seen. Come here to show out a little. The place is beautiful and has that kind of vibe. Second, the drinks. Hell yes. Fancy, creative, excellent, and impressive enough for even the person who has seen every ridiculous cocktail presentation imaginable. And then there is the food. My God, the food. The salsa and queso are legit AF. The street corn is heaven in a bowl. Get several orders. I am serious. One is not enough. The carne asada was amazing. Honestly, I could keep going, but at some point this review is just going to become me yelling about how much I love Mexican Sugar. I LOVE MEXICAN SUGAR. OK, YOU GET THE IDEA. WHY AM I YELLING? BACK TO THE REVIEW.... Service was excellent too. The place is huge and was absolutely packed, but our server stayed attentive and the food came out surprisingly quickly. Make a reservation. Park in the nearby garage. Dress nice. Order the drinks. Get the street corn. Then get more street corn. Who is ready for another trip to Houston? I'll book the reservation at Mexican Sugar.

My daughter dropped some food and made a bit of a mess, and Sonia was so kind about it and cleaned everything up without making us feel uncomfortable at all. The food was amazing. I highly recommend the steak and eggs and the pancakes, both were delicious. Great food, amazing service, and another wonderful experience. We'll definitely be back!

Maximo looks like someone invited the desert inside and poured it a drink. The room is colorful,…read morewarm, and genuinely inviting--pots of cactus, cowboy paintings, and Mexican art. At brunch, the papas bravas come as small cubes of fried potato with an airy crunch that gives way to a soft, pillowy center - the kind of deeply satisfying bite that makes conversation briefly irrelevant. Crisp prosciutto adds salt, aioli brings richness, and smoky chile sauce keeps it lively. They're served with cactus-handled toothpicks, which are almost offensively adorable. The chilaquiles divorciados are another hit. The chips are dressed with salsa rather than drowned beneath it, so each one arrives ready for the perfect bite. It's a small distinction, but an important one. Then there are the enfrijoladas: rolled quesadillas in fluffy tortillas, covered in creamy black bean sauce and plated with more care than bean and cheese might seem to warrant. The dish is fundamentally simple, but that's the point. Soft tortilla, savory beans, melted cheese, bright salsa. Familiar ingredients transformed into something deeply comforting--the culinary equivalent of curling up beneath a warm blanket on a cold morning, even if Houston rarely provides one. Dinner shifts into another gear. The crudos are sensational, especially the tuna tiradito - a rolling wave of flavor and texture. The tacos are excellent across the board, but the crispy maitake mushrooms are unmatched. The short ribs arrive juicy and tender on a mole negro that doesn't sit politely in the background. It lands dark, complex, and full of flavor. And then there's the masa cornbread, a masterpiece of unapologetic indulgence. Humble cornbread meets savory-sweet mole, smoky, earthy butter, and caviar. It sounds like too much. It isn't. Every element earns its place. The cocktails deserve their own warning. They're the kind that convince you to keep ordering the same drink all night. By the end, you may have forgotten what was in it. What you'll remember is that it was refreshing, perfectly balanced, and exactly what you needed. Maximo makes ambitious food feel generous rather than fussy. Come hungry.

Honestly I am fairly disappointed in this place as I had been anticipating it for the longest time…read more I was able to snag reservations about 1 month in advance for a Saturday dinner. The restaurant is located in a quiet area in West University with a good amount of street parking. The restaurant itself is decorated with a lot of character and personality and they have seating inside and outside on their covered patio. Don't get me wrong, the service here is amazing. The servers are very attentive, and I appreciate the chefs coming out to explain their dish. However, the dishes themselves were basic and lacked specialty. My boyfriend and I got the Chef's Tasting Menu. I got the drink pairing. As a Chef's tasting menu, I would expect the restaurants' most precious meals. The short rib was dry and the rest of the other dishes were unmemorable. The only dish that truly caught my eye was their Tres Leches, but this was given on the house as it was our anniversary. The drink pairing I got was well worth and all of the drinks were flavorful and paired well. Overall, I'd hope that their chef's tasting menu would improve as they rotate their dishes. I would try to come back to give it another chance.

They honestly have more customers than they have space, which is a great problem for them to have . Parking was also hard to find, and I waited about 30 minutes just to be seated. But once I got my food and tasted it... I was IN LOVE! The food made all of the inconveniences completely worth it. Customer service was cool, the atmosphere was nice, but the FOOD was definitely the star of the show. I would absolutely go back... just be prepared to wait and hunt for parking. Worth it!

Dona Leti's was everything we thought it would be!…read more Upon arriving there was a 30 min wait but thats ok because we were given chips and salsa to hold us over. Once we were seated the waiter we had was super helpful. If we had questions, he had answers and pictures to go with them. The food was phenomenal and huge. We ordered the skillet burrito, surf and turf eggrols, and birria sampler. So much food and so flavorful. Honestly you have to try the alfredo on the eggrolls. That was different but so good. The asada was flavorful on the burrito and eggrolls. The birria was great and then consume hit the spot dipping wise. The burrito was jam.packed with meat and rice. Very good! Its exactly what I want in my burrito. We ordered margaritas for drinks and those were pretty good. The strawberry margarita has to be mixed once brought to the table, but thats ok. Needless to say we had to take leftovers home for sure. Great food and a great time!
