Kids Chicken Tenders
Natalie T.

I'm giving it 4 stars but it's actually closer to 3.5 stars. The food was good standard cafe fare, I'd give it 4 stars for food. There were plenty of items in the menu that sounded tempting. The portions were very large (check out the side of pasta salad in my photos) and could be shared by 2 people. The service was friendly, helpful and quick. The main drawback was a little lack of cleanliness in the dining area. If you get the pasta salad, keep in mind that it's on the sweeter side, different from what I was expecting. Still good, but you have to like a sweeter dressing. I'd be back to try other items and would even be interested in trying their other locations.

Dirty Coke Zero (lime and coconut)

A unique little place we went to with one of our kids the other night . The service was above average and they have dirty soft drinks which I guess is a thing in Utah like no where else . My chicken Avocado salad was tasty but a little hard to eat on a narrow white plate . A bigger bowl would be much better people . The beer bread served as a starter was sweet , solid and came with a raspberry butter . I will be back ...

Summer salad no cheese

Summer Salad

Hugs is actually apart of the Hug-Hes in Syracuse. This is a small little cafe with yummy food! They give you some beer bread and a strawberry butter (?). I'm not a huge fan of the strawberry butter, but the bread is good. The summer salad is so light and refreshing with feta and strawberries. Their cookies are amazing too, my favorite is the sugar cookie! Plus, they have a large variety of soda to pick from.

Buffalo Ranch Chicken Sandwich

The decor of this restaurant is super cute, add friendly and helpful staff, finished off with delicious food. We visited Hugs for our 1st time as we were in town for the afternoon. Our family lunch included the kids chicken, the buffalo ranch chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, the cranpeno chicken sandwich with pasta salad and the turkey avocado sandwich. While we were waiting for our meal, they delivered some yummy sweet bread with a strawberry butter..which we quickly devoured. Our food was delivered hot and fresh and the serving size was perfect for lunch including enough for leftovers. We look forward to frequenting again the next time we are in town.

Salad with poppyseed dressing. Delicious

Cute little place. Loved the salad with poppyseed dressing. The chicken kids meal was great and those fries were INCREDIBLE. LOVED THEM. Didn't get to try the treats so I guess I gotta go back!!!

Spilled drink she didn't notice and made us search for napkins to clean up, because the napkins are not provided nor are they at the tables.

The food was ok. The prime rib sandwich has more flavor than the French dip, though they are almost the same. The asst manager was nice, but when he asked the girl that was there bellowing she had to finish on her cell phone beforeshe could do anything. She wouldn't get off it until she was done with her conversation, and when our drink feel and spilled she didn't even notice and help. We had to search for napkins to clean it up. We were staring at her and she didn't notice. They need to tell their workers to get off the phone and do their job.

Fresh roasted turkey with generous amounts of fresh avocado). Good sandwich

The service has been so-so but the limited menu hit and miss. The fries are good but entrees have been decent to pathetic.

We ordered a blueberry cornbread with lemon butter off the seasonal menu, and it was very good. I'm impressed at how well the combination went together. With that said, the cornbread could have been a little hotter. The main entrees were a steak hash also off the seasonal menu and an original breakfast. I have to say the steak cash was really good. Had a chimichurri on it and another sauce that went very well with a decent amount of meat and more than enough potatoes and other ingredients. The original breakfast was scrambled eggs with some cheese on it, potatoes and bacon. Again everything was very good. They have a line of fresh juices available none of which we tried but they do serve Coke products. All in all, while I'm not really big on chain restaurants, I would definitely go back here multiple times to try different things off the menu.

We actually really like First Watch but today the waitress we had was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE…read more I'm not the type of person that really complains. I'm pretty understanding. But Gemma was a nightmare. We walked in and it was so busy. We asked the girls at the front if we can self seat in the bar (it was my fiancé and I so we were looking to get in and out quickly) the girls said yes and we headed that way. We walked up and there were dirty dishes on the counter in front of the two empty seats. I decided to clean the area and clear the dirty plates, utensils, napkins and cups. We stood there for a few minutes until I decided to go to the restroom and get a wet paper towel to wipe the counter down. While I was gone Gemma doesn't greet my fiancé, no. She decides to make a snarky comment about him bringing coffee in to drink. Here's the thing. If first watch made lattes or coffee drinks other than drip coffee we would be happy to drink their coffee but they don't. So it should be perfectly acceptable for us to bring in a coffee drink that we actually want to drink. If Gemma is itching that bad to make a comment, try a joke. Something light. Don't come in hot. K so we are waiting to order and Gemma decides to help the people next to us (who got there first so obviously that's completely normal and fair) what wasn't completely normal and fair is sitting and watching Gemma talk with, be nice to and chit chat with the couple and then when she finally decides to come and take our order, it's a completely different experience. She didn't even greet us or say hello. She just asked us what we wanted very dryly, no smile, nothing. We ordered our food. She grabbed the menus with a straight look on her face (almost as if she's annoyed at our existence) and then turned and walked away. Like what the actual heck! I had to clear off my own area touching other people's dirty dishes, which I do not get paid to do, wipe down the counter which had thick sticky stuff all over it and egg juice everywhere. Then you're gonna be super nice to the people next to us and super rude to us for no reason at all other than maybe because we brought our own coffee in?! There really is no reason. It took a long time for our food to arrive and when it finally did, Gemma had put it into a different table, so the food runner was looking for us all over trying to get our food to us...coincidence? Perhaps. Or maybe she did it on purpose. Only Gemma knows. At this point there's no way coffee has triggered her this hard. It's gotta be something else... We noticed that Gemma never gave us utensils to eat with, so I then had to walk around and try to find someone to help. All of the utensils holders at the bar were empty. I saw Gemma, started to walk up to her and she tried to hurry away into the kitchen so I said "excuse me!!" And I told her we didn't have utensils and I asked if she could help us get some. She gave me the dirtiest look! Very SARCASTIC and like reached for the only two utensils that were in a bucket on the bar in front of an elderly lady who was eating. As if Gemma not only expected me to know where the utensils were, but also expected me to reach in front of this lady to grab them. It kind of feels like she should have given them to us like every other waitress and waiter does at every other restaurant that exists. I mean, the system works. Customers actually like if you treat them well and give them utensils to eat with. Then when she printed our receipt (never offered us a box but offered to everyone else around us) I asked her if her name was on the receipt and she literally yells at me "do you want a manager?" I replied "I'm sorry?" And then she quickly changed her volume and said it again in a normal speaking voice. I said no thank you and we left. The reason I didn't speak to a manager is because the absurdity of how Gemma treated us would have stopped at the managers ears but her service was SO TERRIBLE. Everyone should know. We did absolutely NOTHING to warrant such poor treatment. Gemma needs more training on customer service and treating ALL customers with respect and dignity despite whatever her insecurities or personal opinions are. We have 8 kids and I would be really disappointed if any of our children ever treated people so poorly for no good reason.

Came both in the afternoon as well as at night. The bartender in the afternoon was super friendly, she was not at all bothered that we had a large group coming in and out. Great to talk to, gave us insights on Utah and the culture here while we were visiting. The bartender later in the evening however... well. We understand the bar was slammed, that is no excuse for the poor attitude and service though. She acted like everyone was a bother to her. When you're a service worker, which I have been, and are working on tips at the bar as well, you shouldn't be that dismissive. Especially when it comes to the safety of your patrons. The crowd in the evening was also weird, not at all super welcoming to outsiders. We were just in our group having drinks and conversation when an older gentleman started to cause an issue. He claimed we had moved his pool balls at his table. We were close, but not at all in the relevant area of the table. He began insulting us and trying to start an issue. We simply told him we didn't move his balls, he could check the cameras if he felt it was that serious, and we even offered multiple times to buy him a new set for the table and move on as grown men. He proceeded to brandish a firearm concealed. Interesting choice to carry at a bar, coming from another CCW holder in my residing state. He later mentioned to the bartender "I have my strap on me if they (us) follow me outside". This was directly by the bar and on camera if you doubt me. The bartender was of 0 assistance when we asked her to simply run the camera back a few minutes and prove we did not touch his table. She was EXTREMELY avoidant and dismissive about a potential hazard in her bar. Stellar service alright. At this point, we ordered the last rounds of whatever we were drinking and closed out. Did not want to tip on the experience, but out of pity for the bartender on the basis of the above issue (it's bullshit but it's still a safety issue) and how slammed she was, along with our group being larger. I've been in that position as a service worker. I hate to give this review because the experience was genuinely ok before this issue in the evening. The drinks were good, prices fair, typical dive bar affair. We aren't sure if racism had any play in this. We were the only minorities in there for the most part, and we have gotten weird stares through our time here in Layton. Nothing as concerning as this bar experience though.
