I recently ordered a Chicken Salad Croissant with a side of soup to take to work. I picked it up on my way and didn't bother checking the bag because this place has been consistent with orders. Low and behold I received a pasta salad side instead of the soup with no mention of it to me either in the store or on the receipt. I was very disappointed because the last thing I wanted was a pasta salad! The Chicken Salad Croissant is just put on a regular size croissant and the chicken salad itself was so saturated in mayonnaise it was completely soggy by the time I had it for lunch at work. This is my review of their cookies. I have not eaten lunch here, but it looks like a cafe version of the Hug-Hes in Syracuse. Similar items, like their popular hug-hes pasta, BLT sandwiches, burgers... but they do have smoothies (which I don't think the larger hug-hes has). The cookies were great. We came 10 minutes before they closed, and they were really sweet to not be upset with us for coming while they were cleaning. We got three cookies, and they are about $3 a piece. They are big! We loved the peanut butter brownie and the lemon zucchini! They were so soft and delicious! I was hoping for the pumpkin cookie, so I'll have to come earlier for one of those! read more

I have never left a negative review on anything. However, I am doing so now. I ate here on September 12, 2025. I ordered the Rueben sandwich, which was so dry, I had to chase it down with water. I'm giving it 4 stars but it's actually closer to 3.5 stars. The food was good standard cafe fare, I'd give it 4 stars for food. There were plenty of items in the menu that sounded tempting. The portions were very large (check out the side of pasta salad in my photos) and could be shared by 2 people. The service was friendly, helpful and quick. The main drawback was a little lack of cleanliness in the dining area. If you get the pasta salad, keep in mind that it's on the sweeter side, different from what I was expecting. Still good, but you have to like a sweeter dressing. I'd be back to try other items and would even be interested in trying their other locations. read more

Hugs is actually apart of the Hug-Hes in Syracuse. This is a small little cafe with yummy food! They give you some beer bread and a strawberry butter (?). I'm not a huge fan of the strawberry butter, but the bread is good. The summer salad is so light and refreshing with feta and strawberries. The decor of this restaurant is super cute, add friendly and helpful staff, finished off with delicious food. We visited Hugs for our 1st time as we were in town for the afternoon. Our family lunch included the kids chicken, the buffalo ranch chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, the cranpeno chicken sandwich with pasta salad and the turkey avocado sandwich. While we were waiting for our meal, they delivered some yummy sweet bread with a strawberry butter..which we quickly devoured. Our food was delivered hot and fresh and the serving size was perfect for lunch including enough for leftovers. We look forward to frequenting again the next time we are in town. read more

I like this little shop. Sandwiches made fresh on awesome, homemade bread. Nice salads, and some desserts for the sweet tooth. The place is cozy and looks to seat about 40 people comfortably. You're going to order your food at the counter and then have a selection of bar-top tables or low tables to choose from. To-Go isn't an issue here either. The food has been spot on the few times I have been here. This week's selection was a turkey sandwich with a "cran-peno" sauce that was sweet and spicy all at once. Very tasty. My biggest turn off is (and this goes for all counter order restaurants) is the tip jar on the counter and the tip line on the pre-paid receipt. The food was ok. The prime rib sandwich has more flavor than the French dip, though they are almost the same. The asst manager was nice, but when he asked the girl that was there bellowing she had to finish on her cell phone beforeshe could do anything. Why close at a designated time if apparently you want to turn customers away. With stiff competition from larger chains you would imagine this small business would like customers. Food is ordered at the counter and brought to your table (seat yourself). Your order arrives on a mixture of plates, baskets and Styrofoam containers. For instance, the chicken fried steak was served on a fancy plate, but the side salad was in a take out box. Weird. Plastic utensils and napkins are self serve. I love Hug Hes, it has been around in S. Ogden for a very long time. I never have a bad meal, except at the Layton Hug's location. Today for example, I ordered the Summer Salad. The salad, itself was okay but the Poppy Seed Dressing was so watery, it had no flavor. The Beer Bread was ok but the butter that comes with it, was all full of water and very messy. Two supposedly minor things that basically ruined my salad and bread. I doubt that I will go back to the Layton location because of similar experiences I've had in the past. read more

This particular location (a restaurant in a strip mall) has finally found a tenant that will stay-put! Hug Hes (or HUGS- as the exterior sign says) is pure quality! They do their food the right way, and as such, they have a loyal following. This store has indoor & outdoor seating. Neither of which, is in plentiful supply... But that doesn't deter the crowds. Their salt-bread appetizer, with the whipped berry butter is every carb-addicts dream! My favorite dish is their chicken salad. It's like a pasta salad, with grilled chicken pieces, fresh vegetables & legumes; and a sweet oil dressing. The crunch from the carrots perfectly compliments the al dente pasta & kidney beans. Seriously! You'd never think the ingredients would work as well as they do! And the portion size is so big, that there's always enough to eat for lunch the next day. Their glass-front bakery counter is full of sweet treats. At HUGS they've tried to capitalize on the dirty drink craze- by offering syrups in their sodas. I say, leave that aspect to the drive-thru drink joints- and focus on what you do best: food! read more

I drove by this place, repeatedly, not recognizing it for what it was for months, without giving it a second thought and then when I finally was looking for it, drove by it again because I thought it said Chugs, which seemed like either another one of those cutesy fountain drink places or a coffee place, neither of which has much use to me. So, signage definitely could use some improvement, but I would strongly reconsider calling it "Hugs", which could mean several different businesses but does not call to mind food exactly. This is basically a scaled-down version of the full restaurant in Ogden. Inside are mostly desserts and lunch-type items, which is what you have to choose from should you want breakfast, for instance. Inside is a room much longer than wide, but which is also kind of an off-putting space. I'm not sure what they're going for, but if comfort is one of those things, they missed pretty wildly. Bathrooms are great, however, which is a nice bonus. Soda selection is also fantastic as was the staff, who gets this the push. The food is more or less along the lines of the full scale place in Ogden, which is to say excellent. Everything we had was great, from the fish & chips to the BBQ pork sandwich to the fries to the bread and all of the fried appetizers. No shame in the game there and though I'd probably choose the British place over this for fish & chips, I wasn't at all upset by what I had here. The menu is a touch on the eclectic side, which is great if you're in the mood for it, which I wasn't and so my choices were thereby limited. This brings up the conundrum of this place, namely that the menu is generally stuff that is more or less angling towards comfort (read: slow) food, but the space is not conducive to a languidly paced eating experience. As such, it doesn't fit either the role of get in, grab it, get out on the menu side or the hang out for a while role on the food side. You definitely could do worse than to go here, but a slight redirection of interior space to intent would work wonders, in addition to the aforementioned sign and name of the place. read more
