I've been back several times recently for lunch takeout when I've been running late to work and don't have any time to cook. I will say Black Bear Diner has the best sandwiches that come with a side of your choice for the most reasonable prices compared to other competitors. Their sourdough bread is simply divine and always very fresh. My latest sandwiches were the BLT (which is just your basic bacon, lettuce, and tomato). It's a decent price that came with a generous portion of fries (you can choose a different side if you'd like). Very fresh, crispy, and cooked perfectly. Also tried their Turkey Club along with their soup of the day. Turkey Club is filled abundantly but I think I'll stick to the Chicken Avocado Club next time for more ingredients at the same price. Soup of the day was very fresh and filling. Came in a sturdy secure plastic container along with saltine crackers which was a nice surprise. They are excellent on including condiments and utensils if requested. Very happy with all my recent visits to Black Bear Diner and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. Sunday Breakfast Club girls' group has selected Black Bear Diner as our meeting place. It's always a hit with the group and has a great menu-something for everyone. The fish fry last night was anything from golden fried. There were 4 adults that ordered the all you can eat fried fish. All but 1 piece of fish, out of 8 pieces, was even golden. Dry, overcooked and maybe a 1/4 inch of fish between the crunchy dark brown coating. We ask for some replacement fish cooked golden. When they brought them to us they were just as dark brown, dry 1/4 inch fish. So frustrating for us and our waitress. For $20.00 a piece after the tip, it was a very disappointing and costly evening out to dinner for what we were expected to eat! read more

We have come to this location many, many times. It has always been better than both the Ogden and St George locations. Today and the last time we came we left thinking that something has changed with the food. The scrambled eggs seem different. Very crumbly and an odd texture. Think hotel breakfast eggs. I had the new pumpkin pancakes. While I think these could be good, they need to be cooked a little long and do not put whipping cream on them or ask if the customer wants it added. Mine pancakes were soggy before I even added maple syrup. Bacon good. Restaurant is decently clean for a busy Saturday. Will we come back? Probably but hopefully an owner or manager sees this to address the eggs issue as this was not a one time occurrence for us. read more

Light, bright, inviting, down home country style ambience. Service was friendly, and fast. We were there for brunch, and the kids menu was a good selection of items, and NOT just chicken nuggets like many other restaurants. My omelette was a generous size, and full of flavor, and easily rivaled more expensive brunch places. So I would highly recommend that you talk to your kitchen manager and your cooks and explain to them that when a customer orders food it should be freshly made and not sitting around for hours. Hostess brought us to our table, set silverware and napkins in the middle of table and went to station. Didn't set up table. Lindsey was our server greeted us, took drink order. The hottest thing that was served was the water for the tea. Chili again barely melted the cheese, onion rings burnt, yet cold. Chicken strips cooked thru but not hot. Fries cold. Took the wife and son to BBD on a Saturday late morning around 11:00am for brunch. Wait was about 30 minutes. Waitress was attentive and took our order. The food however took around 45 to come out of the kitchen. I had their cream cheese pancakes that were very good. My son had shrimp and ribs and really liked them. My wife had the eggs Benedict and thought they were just okay. She doesn't like her egg's runny and should have told them this as the yokes were very runny. The amount of food and value is there. I have not eaten here in a while but the two times I did the food was good, the environment was peaceful, and the waitress was really sweet.

Always enjoy the food, always have specials posted that are actually interesting and we're willing to try. The service is usually always nice. Every so often we have to wait (after getting several glances from the wait staff) before we're even greeted but once we are the service is good. With that being said, the food never disappoints;-) Also, this is the only place I order the orange juice because it's always fresh squeezed (the machine is visible) and you get a large glass of it! Nope. I've eaten at many locations of Black Bear Diner, even out of state. It's gimmicky and the food is mediocre, overpriced, and bland. I guess they err on the side of flavorless for the older demographic that they cater to? There are so many places better than Black Bear. Go to Sill's Cafe across the street - the food is better and costs less. read more

Food was delicious and portions were more than generous. There are a bunch of young women working here and they've certainly been trained in the fine art of customer service, well done, Black Bear. We visited Sunday morning around 9am and already it was busy but they've got lots of seating. It was a chilly Saturday morning when we got take out from Black Bear Diner and we were looking for a hearty breakfast. We ordered one of their sweet cream pancakes, the cinnamon roll french toast, and the chicken fried steak combo. Walking in to pick up our order, I saw that the decor was right on theme. It had a woodsy, lodge feel but it was complete with a juke box and lots of bear paraphernalia. The menus were designed to look like newspapers. In true diner style, the portions were large and there were calories galore! When I saw the size of the pancakes, I was glad that I'd only ordered a single one. It was very good - fluffy, soft, and a little sweet as the sweet cream suggested. The french toast was surprisingly excellent. I am always leery about getting french toast because I don't like the texture of soggy food but the cinnamon roll aspect of this one sounded good. The use of an actual cinnamon roll that was sliced, dipped in batter, and cooked allowed their french toast to remain firm. I enjoyed the icing on top which added a nice sweetness. We also enjoyed the chicken fried steak and gravy. This was a very heavy, but truly satisfying breakfast. I was disappointed to see that our fruit that should've accompanied the french toast was missing as that would've brightened up the meal. But, despite that, I would visit this location, or another one of the many Black Bear Diners again for a good breakfast. read more

We sat talking with my sister for nearly 2 hours and our server came by at just the right intervals to fill our drinks. A "beary" good place :) The "big daddy burger" or "daddy burger" wasn't on the menu, our server suggested it to my husband who was going to get the biggest burger on the menu and WOW---that was one big burger! Not very happy with black bear tonight. We had a party of 8 adults and a toddler. 3of us ordered pot roast. AFTER the waitress brought us our salads and cornbread, she told us they were out of pot roast. At that point, we felt we had to order a dinner because we had our salads. So we all ordered the tri tip. We ordered it rare, my niece ordered hers med, and my sil ordered his med rare. Well, it really didn't matter because when the plates came, they were all cooked the same. The tri tip had a wierd flavor. Then, to add to the disappointment, it was kids eat free night, but we still got charged for the toddler meal. It will be a long time before I eat here again. read more

We were there on graduation morning 5/22/25, staff was very friendly & accommodating. As we asked to be seated out on the patio. We had a group of 9 and not all of us arrived together. But at some point the restaurant got very busy, and service became very slow. Two orders had to be sent back. But all and all food was good and service ok. My husband was taken here by his co-workers for lunch one day and he raved about it, however my neighbor wasn't so complimentary, so I had resisted. However, they were open on a Sunday (yeah!) and one bite told me I was going to have to admit he was right. :P Ate at the "bar" and our server was super friendly, helpful and accommodating. (Shame on me for not remembering her name!) Husband had the Parmesan Sourdough Cheeseburger w/onion rings, and I went for the Reuben, my quintessential sandwich choice when trying a new restaurant. They happened to have mac & cheese as a special, which the server subbed for an upcharge. Husband devoured his cheeseburger, and those onion rings were amazing. As for my Reuben...alas, I am permanently in love! Lots of meat, lots of flavor, but HUGE. Sure wish they offered a 1/2 sandwich combo w/the Reuben. I couldn't finish it and it didn't reheat well at the house. Mac & cheese was also good; next time though I'll try something different. Drinks never ran dry and pricing reasonable for the quantity.
