Easily the best restaurant in Layton. My wife and I are regulars, coming back again and again for the sandwiches, empanadas, and desserts. What a fun find! I needed to break my fast today, but didn't just want to go to fast food. I drove a little farther from Farmington to try some empanadas. It was a little deceiving at first, because the parking lot looked a little empty (some of the other store fronts surrounding it looked empty too). I was happy to find it tucked around the corner. When you walk it, they have a little grocery area and the pastry counter. As you walk past the grocery aisles, you can find the restaurant seating area, which is a pretty big space. I was a bit short on time, so I chose some empanadas and some pastries to go. I tried the chicken, beef, and ham & cheese, which were all delicious. I got this pastry with a fruit similar to guava, which I devoured as well. The staff was super helpful and very patient with me and my indecisiveness. We ate at Aconcagua today because it had a 4.9 Yelp rating, and it's well-deserved! To start, everyone who worked there was so nice. The service was great. The chicken empanada was delicious but the beef was my favorite. We also split the Aconcagua sandwich and while the bread was a lil too crispy for me, it was still sooo good. Aconcagua is our favorite place to go for coffee and pastries in the morning! Everything is incredibly delicious! The only problem is deciding what you want. I usually get a caffe latte, an empanada and a Berlines, but I try out new baked goods almost every-time. They also have authentic Argentinian Pizza after noon. The crust is fluffy and crispy on the outside. We got the Neapolitan and it was so good! The staff is all very friendly and most of them know us by name when we come in. Their pizza is in a class by itself - the crust is somehow both crispy and also pillowy light and soft. We really enjoy their choripan (chorizo sandwich). But, Don't enjoy everything so much that you don't save space for dessert. The pastries are out of this world, especially the vigilantes. I visited there for lunch with my colleague. He looked it up on Yelp and was impressed by the great reviews and wanted to try their Empanadas which they are known for. It is truly an authentic Argentine establishment. They even have the soccer games from Argentina on their TV's. You order at the counter and their staff will bring your food to your table. The restaurant itself can easily seat over 50 people and when we went, there was only one other family having lunch. I ordered a ham & cheese as well as a spinach empanada. It was delicious and very filling. They use a pizza dough for making the empanadas so the texture of the dough is a bit different than other empanadas. It was very tasty. My colleague ordered 3 and regretted having too much. They are quite satisfying. The restaurant also makes other items such as pizza and sandwiches. I also noticed they were stockpiling an Argentinian grapefruit soda they need to bring in by the pallet load. They claim that's the only way to meet the minimum order. So excited that I ran across Aconcagua!! It's for sure a new favorite! They have authentic Argentine pastries, sandwiches, empanadas, and even a mini store of other items! Everything was delicious! I ordered the Media Luna and loved it! The croissant was perfectly flaky and I loved everything that they put on it. I also tried a bite of the Aconcagua sandwich and it was delicious too! You can't go wrong with proicuitto and Swiss cheese! My favorite thing that I ordered though, was the empanadas!! They are soo yummy! I tried both the beef and chicken and kept going back for more and more! The chicken is probably my favorite. So much flavor! Highly recommend! They also have lots of pastries to choose from, and they are delicious! They bake everything fresh daily and they can sometimes sell out on busy days! I can't wait to go back and try more of them. Heard about this on Yelp and I bookmarked this place for the next time we were going to Hill AFB. It's hidden in the corner of a strip mall. A tiny place but behind those doors holds some amazing pastries and yummy empanadas at such an affordable price. Obviously, a lot of people know about this place because when we got there on a Friday around 12pm their selection in the pasties was getting sparse. We got 6 pastries for $9. Which was an amazing price given how fresh and mouthwatering these were. I pretty much got one of whatever they had left. We also bought 2 empanadas to sample; one beef and one chicken. The empanadas were still warm and crispy -- because of how they keel them under a warmer. But not Soggy! we liked the beef better but both were good. One thing I wasn't used to was there was no sauce offered with the empanadas-- unlike other places I've had empanadas at. Not a big deal but just not used to that. They take their time walking you through the different types of food they have. Everything is from Argentina. They have pantry items, tea, candies, beverages, you name it. They also bake INCREDIBLE pastries. Somehow, they have managed to create the perfect balance of textures and flavors. Every bite was mouthwatering goodness. *chefs kiss* My son and I ordered the #1 sandwich. It had prosciutto, cheeses, a deliciously crunchy bread with little tomatoes baked in. It was wonderful and large enough to fill us both up (and then some)! We got the cream cheese pastry and tres de leche croissant for dessert. Both were truly, without a doubt, the best I've had in my life. I live a bit of a distance away will be coming back just for these babies. I highly recommend them. To finish off the meal, I ordered a latte made with almond milk. It was such a delightful way to end the experience. Not too sweet, deliciously creamy, and the perfect temperature. I come here all the time for the Aconcagua sandwich. There is no other place around you can get a sandwich like this. The prosciutto is so good. Their facturas are incredible as well. If only the location were better so it would not be so easy to overlook, Aconcagua would be almost beyond a 5-Star small coffee and pastry shop. Yet for the friendly and helpful greeting from the staff, together with light, buttery, homemade pastry of the canoncitos (filled horns) and freshly fried, authentically homemade-tasting empanadas, it's hard to withhold anything on my rating. They were sold out today (by 4 pm), of all their empanadas but a few shredded beef and shredded chicken empanadas, but they were fairly-sized meaty portions for the $2 price (bought 6 for $12). And again, with flaky, crisp, hand-formed crust that tastes like they are properly using some lard in the dough. I only wish Aconcagua served a Salteñas style of empanada (minced beef, potato, scallion, boiled egg, and green olive) that my host family-- whose 'mama' was an Argentinian emigrant-- would make for me when I lived in Madrid, along with a cool sofrito sauce (cooked fresh tomato, salt, vinegar and olive oil) or chimichurri sauce (oil, garlic and fresh herbs) that helps cut through the rich meat filling so perfectly. I would've been in a seventh heaven of good memories! Nevertheless, Aconcagua delivered a charming sixth heaven that we hope we can revisit for coffee or brunch sometime soon! read more
