This is my secret lunch spot for excellent deli meals. They serve up dishes that I can not get from other grocery stores- believe me I checked as this one is outside my general area. I got in contact with the Bakery to see if we could get a wedding cake, they explained their policy about how they cannot quote anything over the phone because they don't want any sort of miscommunication. That makes so much sense I offered sending an exact picture of the cake I wanted over email to see if they could do that and I could get a quote that way. Still part of their policy and they will not do that, which again if that's the policy that makes sense. The thing that frustrated me is the way both of the bakery workers talked to me on the phone. I was patient and just asking questions the whole time but they almost seemed irritated and put off that I would even have questions. They were a little patronizing about my cake knowledge. They are the bakers and of course they know more than me but I don't think I needed to receive the talking down to. I am a wedding planner and I have worked with a lot of cake decorators and I have never received what I did on the phone today. The client service was not what it should be especially since they pride themselves in being around for 120 years. I am sure the bakery food is amazing but I really didn't appreciate the way the bakery workers talked. read more

We took two unopened bottles of Kefir yogurt drink back after trying the first one because it tasted absolutely vile. Not sure if that's how it's supposed to taste or if it was spoiled, but we were told it could not be returned, even with a receipt. The front-end manager told us it's a state law that all grocery stores must obey: dairy, produce and other refrigerated items can not be returned. She also spun a tale about an undercover reporter who returned items to various stores and then went back to find them on the shelf. I'm a retired Librarian, so it was easy for me to research both the state laws and any reporting about food returns. Bottom line: both those statements were lies, no such laws exist and no reporting was ever done. A corporate philosophy of lying to customers ---they've lost my business. read more

Today I get to participate in Bowmans "bait and switch" program'. The Ad is for Friday and Saturday April 7 -8. They advertized some very competitive prices for "Challenge butter" 2 lbs fpr $5.00 and "food club cream cheese" $.79 for 8 oz. block. I am in there at 4PM Friday ( the first day of the sale.) . I am told by the custormer service lady, no I can't buy the two pack of cream cheese for the price of two single packs. There are no sutitutions for butter or single packs of cream cheese. Now they claim to be able to Reserve the right to limit quantities. How does a bait and switch work? Advertize a product at a very good price, but make sure you will run out of it early in the ad date. The people that come to buy the good priced item, when told they are out will switch to the more expensive item and pay the high price. A common tactic reservered for un-ethical businesses. Ordered a cake for our grandpa's 80th birthday party. Basketball themed in Davis High brown & gold :) Chose Bowman's for their wonderful whipped cream frosting and excellent bakery reputation. With much party prep going on, someone else was tasked with picking up the cake. They did look at it, but unfortunately let it pass... When we finally arrived at home and saw the cake we were so disappointed. An incorrect attempt at a half a basketball court in a ROYAL BLUE blob. (maybe trying to cover up a mistake?) Lines not straight at all and the worst cheap plastic ball players and tipping hoop stand stuck on the top. I think the (incorrect) writing was supposed to be brown, but looked more like a dull purple. "Happy Birthday Gramps" was ordered. Gramps was spelled out with each letter for the decorator during ordering, but we got gramp. No s. This thing looked like it was done by a kid just learning about cake decorating. We wanted to return the cake, but had no time and conceded that the yummy flavor of Bowman's cake would prevail! Disappointed again. This was NOT the delicious whipped cream frosting this bakery is known for. And not even buttercream. It must have been made with shortening and literally had no flavor at all. We were sick to see pieces of a $40 cake being left on the plates and thrown in the trash. Obviously the cake cannot be returned. However, we felt this experience needed to be addressed. Rather than writing a review we decide to call the bakery to express our concern and disappointment with the hope of keeping someone else from having a similar experience. Sadly and much to our dismay, we were treated with abrupt rudeness by a defensive and unprofessional manager. We were surprised to receive a terrible cake from Bowmans, but much more surprised to receive such bad treatment from Bowmans. It's not difficult to be kind. It's not difficult to acknowledge a customers disappointment and offer a sincere apology. And in fact it's part of a managers job. So, we're posting a review and needless to say, we will not be ordering cake from Bowmans in the future. read more

The grocery store is pretty typical and all of the workers are nice, but the donuts are where Bowman's gets me! They have some of the best I've ever had, and my family gets them very frequently. It's a typical grocery store. But when you walk in to the right is a line of people waiting on donuts. The crave in this city is donuts on a daily basis. If you've ever been to in n out burger, it's a line of customers like that... I spent 15 mins in line, and talking to other shoppers who drove from Layton.., they said they've waited up to half hour. But if you wanna try a donut here.. This store is closed on Sundays.. If you don't want to wait, they have a rack of glazed dozen donuts ready. I personally had a round chocolate raised.. a chocolate longjohn and a cinnamon sugar crumble.. pretty good, just wish they were BIGGER. Growing up in Southern California there was a Fosters donuts- they were as big as my hand... My local grocery store. It's locally owned and has that old fashioned feel of visiting a neighbor next door. Prices are ok with their specials being very competitive without a "card" or joining a club. Bakery is still actually baking and making items here. Try the donuts they are fresh daily. Meat dept. has a butcher that will take care of special request. I come here for fast fill ins and the bake goods isle. They carry items most stores stopped carrying. Lots of their customers still actually still make things from scratch as I do. You will notice a different vibe here and will probably like it. Place stays busy as locals support them!! I love Bowman's, but I don't shop here very often. The prices for the daily staples are slightly higher than what you'd find at Smiths. I do end up buying most of my families birthday cakes from the Bowman's bakery. I prefer the bakery here over Parson's in Bountiful. They also have excellent donuts for a grocery store bakery. It is a common practice among the people of Kaysville to go to Bowman's after 7:00 PM to get the donuts 50% off. The pickings become slim quick. My parents drive up from Bountiful to get meat from the Bowman's meat department. It is fresh and truly hand cut. read more

Bowmans is a family owned store that has everything the big chain stores have with the old time corner store atmosphere. If I were to die and go to donut heaven I would find myself at Bowmans. If you like Fritters you need to have one from Bowmans. The staff is so nice it is like visiting neighbors. You can talk to the butchers and they will take the time to answer all of your questions about anything. My mom was raised on a ranch and could not stump the butchers. The People in the deli know what is in all of the salads and will take the time to explain the difference in all of the meat and cheeses they sell. If you like fresh produce this is where to find it. I came here based on the reviews that the donuts were amazing and half off after 7 PM. They were pretty good! Not as good as the Amish donuts I had in Philadelphia but for the price they were tasty and fresh! I would come back again but probably only after 7 for the half off price. I know the Bowman family and I worked for Dick 50 years ago when I was in high school. It's a great neighborhood store. The problem I have with Bowman's is that I've become addicted to their fried chicken and to their donuts. Curse you Bowman's, I'm trying to shed a few pounds and you're not making it easy. PS - Get the chicken when it's fresh out of the fryer - it's amazing! (It dries out if it's been in the counter too long.) FREE GROCERY pick up is the BEST THING EVER CREATED! And they don't charge you for it! I ordered my groceries in the morning and they were ready by noon! Their customer service is amazing! I ordered 53lbs of pork and asked them to cut and portion it into 2.5lb packages! They did it no extra charge and their prices beat Walmart, Winco & Costco! I've only lived in this area for a few months and have been in Bowman's about 6 times. I haven't had a single good experience. Every single cashier I've had has been incredibly rude. I don't expect a conversation but a little bit of good customer service goes a long way. My tipping point was watching the way an elderly woman in front of me in line was treated this morning. It's a nice store with admittedly good donuts but I'll stick with Fresh Market across the street, they have been nothing but nice every single time I've been. The store is just fine, but the donuts are made fresh every day (except Sundays, when they are closed) and they are very good. I only go here for their bakery, and I feel that alone deserves 5 stars. However, the reason I no longer shop for groceries here is because I have bought so many things and had to return them the same day because they were expired. Before I gave up, I learned my lesson and started checking the dates before checking out but this didn't even last one trip to the store because it wasn't just one or two things expired but whole cases of things were old and expired. Our family moved here 5 months ago and were looking for a local pharmacy. I had used a small, local pharmacy in our hometown in the south and didn't want to use a big chain. I wanted a pharmacist who would "know" who we were. Bowmans was suggested and I checked it out with some reluctancy. As soon as I dropped off the prescriptions I just began to wander around and check out the place. A stock lady ask if I needed assistance. I explained I was just browsing and next thing I knew she was back with valuable info and coupons for the store! She was pleasant, not pushy! Then I discovered the doughnuts! They have been a Saturday morning staple ever since! Absolutely delicious! And the pharmacist..well, we just love him! The whole staff in the pharmacy is just great! They have pretty good prices, and pretty good customer service. The only problem I would address is the lack of self service. I don't want to wait for a teenage youth or elderly to ring up my groceries. Unimpressive compared to other supermarkets in the area. The cheese selection is minimal, and coffee is even worse. I believe I saw one, maybe two types of coffee available. There's also very little selection of vegetarian foods such as tofu and meat substitutes. The prices are usually higher than their competitors for the food I want to buy, unless it is on sale. They seem to be stuck in the past with no self-checkouts. I can see the appeal of having a real person there, but they seem to chat with customers they know for a long time which makes the checkout lines go very slowly. There's also no dedicated bicycle parking, again, unlike all of the other supermarkets in the area. I'm not sure why one would shop there when there are better alternatives available. read more
