Huey's Downtown was decent food. We were hungry and it served its purpose, but was not anything really stand-out. Our server was friendly if not a little rushed. She did get a large table of customers in after us so she was probably trying to get us taken care of before she had to do that table. The ambiance is fun and colorful! I noticed that the walls were covered in names and messages. It would have been fun to leave our names but there wasn't anything to write with! Maybe provide a Sharpie at the tables? I was happy to find that I could order any burger as a black bean or Beyond patty. I got the West Coast Burger with the black bean patty and sweet potato fries. The patty was good, problem with my burger was that it was missing the guacamole. I didn't feel like sending it back as I was hungry and just wanted to eat, so it's partly my fault I didn't get my correct burger. Huey's Downtown was our second choice this evening, so I'll admit I started out a little disappointed. Still, we settled in for some familiar comfort food. The wife said her cheeseburger was "standard"--nothing special, but at least the patty was cooked right. My Reuben, on the other hand, was a letdown. The bread was crushed flat, the sauerkraut was missing in action, and the corned beef came in thick slabs instead of thin slices. The 1000 Island dressing was straight out of a bottle and served on the side. The house-made chips were perfectly crisp but way over-seasoned, and I'm fairly sure the salsa came straight from a Tostitos jar. Let's just say you'll need to enjoy plenty of Huey's beer to make the food feel like more than just edible. That said, the waitress was the star of this meal. She was perfectly attentive and genuinely cared that we enjoyed our visit--even offering to take the Reuben back and bring me something else (but I rarely, if ever, send food back). A local favorite for sure! This is a funky place with a fun history built by years of passion. The prices here are super reasonable which I appreciated, especially in today's day it's hard to find that. The service was great. Everyone was super friendly and happy to help. The food was great. Definitely cheesy... and piping hot. But average. I did like the accompaniment of the salsa and sour cream. It's kind of like having chips and salsa and chips and spinach dip. I ate it all!! I ordered the "world famous" burger. Here are the positives: the patty was actually seasoned and seasoned well. My order came out correctly. Negatives: menu says standard temp was medium. And it definitely came out well done. My server offered to have it re-made. But there was no need in wasting the food. It was still juicy. I added tater tots and they werent hot. Just lukewarm. Although the food was good. It wasn't mind blowing. And with world famous being in the marketing and promotion I expected something special. Very good for a crispy, crunchy bite. The ranch was a creamier ranch that tasted homemade. He ordered the Old Tyme A1 Burger and I got the Bluff City burger with tots. The first bite of the burger was gushing with flavor and juice, enough that we needed napkins right away. Every bite was consistent. This restaurant looks funny from the outside, and it definitely seems bigger on the inside. We were around 6 pm and they have a happy our! The options were getting one 22oz beer or two 11oz.
