About the Yelp reviews... Whoever, in times past, found fault in the food, service or anything else, must have arrived already a sourpuss. Our experience: Supernice, superfriendly, superefficient, superprofessional service. We felt welcomed and appreciated. Really good food. Fish & Chips: crispy, succulent, non-greasy. Bangers & Mash: Mild, tender sausages zinged with some ale-tangy onions. Shepherd's Pie*: simply delish. All the food arrived hot. But even IF the food had been 3-star instead of 5-star, we'd still have had a grand time because of the people. #Way2Go *I'm asking, not arguing, here, but shouldn't Shepherd's Pie, by definition, be made of lamb? In town for a concert and wanted good food and drinks while I waited for my best friend , I hit the jackpot! This Irish pub was amazing. The decor was full of wood and Irish memorabilia with a dark, cozy vibe, and the service was spectacular. The bartender was so sweet and attentive I had the fish and chips O M G! The fish literally fell apart and the breading was slightly sweet with a hint of lemon. The fresh-cut fries with sea salt were the perfect touch. I'm just now catching up to writing about the Brass Door! This place was a slight disappointment. The Shepherd's pie was cold to lukewarm at best which was SUCH a letdown after seeing it come out in a nice cast iron pan. Service and drinks were excellent. Leading up to the restaurant and opening that door was cool, and the decor inside is what you'd expect from an Irish pub, but... Those Reuben eggrolls...I will be thinking about them for a while. Going to have to scrounge up a recipe to make them at home. They were so good. I did not try the fried goat cheese but it was all well received by those who did. They were on a limited game day menu but man I'm glad I got to try those eggrolls. I was a but disappointed about the place. When I search for a Irish pub, it was the first one to show up and I decided to try it. It took a long time to be seated and a long time tonget our order. The moment that we were ready to order, the waitress told us that the options of the menu we got first were not available. Instead, they gave us a reduced Manu where only had grilled cheese and burgers, but nothing Irish. I went on a Monday around 6pm. Maybe I would have gotten better luck at other time. read more

Absolutely love this place. Have visited a few times now, and so glad we have a real Irish pub down the road. Owner was so nice, proper pints of Guinness, lovely bar, even a few snugs in the place. Brunch on a Sunday - fantastic corned beef Benedict called Eggs Gallaway - however, there was barely any hollandaise in the eggs. The Server/bartender went in the back for awhile, so I went over to the kitchen to get more hollandaise (which was cold). The Chef was also in the back, so while waiting, observed a very messy kitchen w/ rags on the floor, bacon on the floor & an untidy cooking area. There were only three tables full, us included. Stopped by The Brass Door for lunch on Saturday, was hoping to try their regular menu, but they only had brunch until 2. Got the shepherds pie sliders and switched out the pub salad for fries. And HOLY real cut potato French fries. SO good! The biscuits were homemade and fluffy, the shepherds pie filling was rich and meaty and had a cheese topping. Stopped into the Brass Door after settling into our hotel for the night after a long ass drive from Texas. It's a striking old building and a great atmosphere for a pub. Big tall ceilings, beautiful wood bar, old mirrors - you get the picture. It was very welcoming and relaxing. There are TV's above the bar, which does decrease the appeal and takes away some of the allure to me, but I know some like that. We sat at the end of the full bar and were instantaneously greeted by a sweet young bartender, Kaley! She was very attentive and very enthusiastic to play with some cocktail mixes for me. She made one that was really good with Rye and Ancho Reyes. It was so good in fact that some other patrons decided they wanted one as well. It was after 9:00PM when we arrived and the kitchen staff was keen to leave, but they were kind enough to make us a quick order of fish and chips before shutting down. I really enjoyed this meal. The fish was cooked perfectly with big chunky moist pieces of cod in a light crisp batter. The fries were also on point, but a tad bit salty. They even serve them with classic curry sauce. I really enjoyed that, but would recommend heating it up a bit. I wasn't crazy about it being so cold with the food. Overall an enjoyable evening. I would go back. read more

Random mid-day beer stop at The Brass Door on a Thursday afternoon turned in to one of the highlights of our Memphis stop over. The beer selection was good and the space was cool -- long and narrow with a massive, gorgeous bar down one side, almost Irish in feel with lots of wood. We decided to belly up to the bar as we were 2 of 4 people in the place on this Thursday afternoon. We were offered samples before making our selection, and were excited to see so many local craft breweries featured as this is our favorite thing to do while traveling. We would have gone to the breweries themselves, but they were not open that day or during that time frame. Thank goodness for The Brass Door! What really stuck out to us was the people at The Brass Door. Seamus - one of the owners - was not only present and visible but also extremely friendly and genuinely interested in the patrons visiting his bar. He is the kind of guy that will remember your name and greet you every time you come in. Brad the General Manager was super cool and chatted us up during most of our visit. We talked about Memphis, what to do while there, where to eat, the festival that was going on the following day, and our favorite beers. We were happy to talk Indianapolis beers and give him a sticker from our favorite brewery in town. So genuinely friendly and a great guy to talk to. Ask about the signatures above the bar... and get up there to add yours if you can. We will totally stop back in to The Brass Door when traveling through Memphis in the future. read more

Nice and crispy and the filling was a great balance of corned beef, sauerkraut, and swiss. The thousand island was delicious! Highly recommend this app. Plus it's 2 large egg rolls (cut in half, so 4 servings) for $9. Hard to beat! If you enjoy a fresh salad with your meal, you must try the baby spinach salad. It's the best salad I've ever had! The earthy roasted beets (I'm not a beet person but ate every bite) with the crispy, warm, honey coated goat cheese alongside a lemon dressed spinach salad with spicy pecans and dried cherries--- ridiculously good. Perfect to split if you don't want a salad as an entree. The all day Irish breakfast was good. Solid Irish pub food. The fish and chips were amazing. The fish was light and flaky, the batter perfectly coated the fish. The fries were perfect. Nothing was oily or greasy. So good! The bread pudding was also wonderful. We were pretty full at this point but couldn't pass it up. It was such a nice texture of bread cubes, not mushy the way some southern bread puddings can be. The sauce was amazing and you could taste the whiskey and nutmeg. Highly recommend ending your meal with this! We had excellent service. Tried The Brass Door for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was a pretty decent lunch. Fish and chips were good. I got a side of curry sauce and that was interesting. Goat cheese appetizer was good. Portions were kinda small for the price, and I wish the menu was overall bigger with more selections. Good seafood chowder! Decor was pretty awesome as I understand it's inside an old bank. I will probably try this place again at some point. Oh, having to pay for parking was kind of a downer as parking can be expensive around there. read more
