We stopped in Memphis for the night on the way to Nashville. Being LSU fans we wanted to find a place to watch the game and happened upon Flyway Brewing. Not only to they have a ton of tv's they have a restaurant, tap room, private seating area and an entire game room. The staff was super friendly and the food was excellent! It officially closes once the last customer decides to leave. Cost: 9/10 It was the typical price range for a brewery. Taste: 8/10 The burger was tasty & the wings were not bad However, I wasn't a fan of the fries. Ambience: 10/10 It was decor is beautiful. There is plenty of room for private events (large & super small), a band, and more. I love that the restrooms were covered in creative art. Parking: 9/10 There is no specified parking lot. However, you can park outside of the establishment for free. This wasn't an issue for us because we went during their slow period. Okay, this place was better than I expected! First of all, it's HUGE and has everything from multiple sports TVs, a stage for live music, pinball machines, and gorgeous little cocktail alcoves. We went during downtown dining week and I tried the Plain Jane Burger and the bacon salt pretzel. All of the food was good and I was satisfied! I'm cracking up writing this because their staff members legit take the title "high" part seriously. Our beertender, I believe was named Indigo or India. We couldn't make it out because she was...slurring. Also, we waited 19 minutes before she even popped up behind the bar. We wanted to leave but since we didn't rent a car and were dropped off via a somewhat expensive Uber, we wanted to at least try ONE beer. Not exactly raving customer service. She also got our order incorrect, but I was over it. She also promised popcorn but gave popcorn to a customer's dog instead. Though there is a lot to do here such as shuffleboard, bags, and darts, the vibe was just odd. I wouldn't say unsafe but odd. Vacant, unused. Like we were partaking in some sort of horror film. Beer was okay. We marked our beers in Untapped, paid and got TF out of there. Would never come back. There is also nothing around here. Flyaway beers mostly suck. Bring back the old original recipe High Cotton favorites. Thai Pale Ale, Coffee Stout, Razz wheat, and special seasonal stuff like Christmas Stout. You know, Things that made the brewery a stand-out. The Flyway beers are only ok. As a beer lover I personally do not like them much. I can tell you Flyway beers are not what Memphis wants. This place serves beer and that is it, but that is more than enough! (There is a restaurant you can order from next door - which we did) We came for a quick drink and stayed 4 hours! First, the ambiance is perfect. It is warm and inviting. There is a great seating area outside but also several areas with ample seating inside, as well. The bartender was SUPER friendly. He clearly wanted is to sample several beers and get the one that was just right. We were visiting from out of town and, on the recommendation of some locals, drove from east Memphis to check this place out. It was well worth it. Y'all!! This has to be my favorite of all the local brewers located in Memphis and their beer, bar area, plus bartenders are so fantastic and knowledgeable - if I lived closer this would totally be my neighborhood bar and I'd be coming in at least 2-3 times a week!! As it is living in the suburbs (Collierville, I'm looking at you) I've only been here three times so far in the last 6 or so months, but am hopeful they might open something closer to my house. The first time I can here, I got a flight as I was unfamiliar with their brews and the flight was awesome! Chose the Hefeweizen, the Oktoberfest, Belgium Wit, Tuparillo - I enjoyed all of them! My fave however was the Belgium Wit and Tuparillo and I'd get either of these two beers again. We grabbed a board game (there's a huge variety of all sorts - cards, tabletops, quizzes, etc - to choose from), sat at a table by the window and proceeded to while away 2-3 hours till almost closing time, playing games, chatting and drinking. Also a shout-out to the acoustics; it gets busy but the overall conversation just stays as a nice buzz in the background and you can still hear yourself think and speak. There's two spaces to sit in as well, so if space in the front looks full up, just head to the back and in that room space, there is a massive window thru which you can sometimes spot the brewing going on. The connection to the Edge Alley next door is super convenient too (And that's my next review coming up as after drinks some brews, we indeed went there to get some nibbles!) Wonderful bar space and great beer - screams hipster without trying too hard! Love that Memphis has such a place and highly, definitely recommend! They had an amazing tap room, and lots of cool merchandise. Our tender was a very sweet girl, and happy to explain everything on tap. The reason I gave only 3 stars is because I am not a fan of German style beers, and EVERY beer seemed to have that taste to me. Heffs, Blonds, Belgians etc etc can't stand them. My wife on the other hand LOVES them, that's the beer she prefers, and this was her favorite brewery in Memphis, she said she liked it more than our local one.. So in conclusion; if you love German beer this is the place for you, if you hate it then you probably won't like their beers. read more

An excellent local brewery located in the heart of downtown Memphis. They are located off a side street, so parking is a little bit better near their building than other restaurants and buildings. The inside itself is a little smaller than expected, but don't let it fool you. You walk inside and they have a decent seating area near the bar and and walk out back with more space and games to play in the back room. What is noticeable about the decor is the big "BEER!" sign that is lighted up above the bar when you walk in. The staff is very friendly and actually thanked me for coming and said they hoped to see me again. They are easy to have a conversation with and recommend what you like. The beer selection is very good-they had at least 10 on their sign and I had a flight. The ESB was definitely my favorite but all of them were very good. I will come back when in the Memphis area! read more

July 17, 2019 at 1818 hours: First and foremost, I think the blonde "bartender"working behind the counter needs to find a new occupation. I use the term "bartender" loosely due to the fact that it's not very difficult to tend a bar when all you do is drop tap handles. As soon as I walked into the tap room, I could smell her resting *blank* face. Since she decided to ignore me, I was assisted by the shorter brunette bartender. I asked her if she had white growler lids so I could get my growler filled. She advised that they did not have the white lids, but she would attempt to jury-rig the ones that they had onto my growler. Now the fun part! So, I walked out to my car, and retrieved my growler. Now, I will note, most breweries will fill growlers from other breweries as long as you're buying their product. I mean, come on, it's money in the establishments pocket, right? Well, I was apparently wrong with this assumption of High Cotton, because when I walked in, they told me that they couldn't fill another breweries growler- pffff, like it's some kind of mortal sin! I then make a joke saying that the brewery is currently 0-2. Well, apparently that didn't fly well with Miss Blondie Locks because she felt the need to send affirmations back towards High Cotton and tell me that I was indeed 0-2. So much for the customer being right... I will say High Cotton was my favorite brewery but, unfortunately, I will not be going back there again. P.S. read more

Nice people to shoot the shit with and no excessive craziness or pretense. When we were there they had a popsicle and beer tasting. I know what you're thinking "Dru, you just told me there was no pretense...popsicle tasting? Is that a fucking joke?" No, friend. No. It is not a joke. The popsicles were from a local, craft-popsicle company (RIP Stuffwhitepeoplelike.com), and paired with tasters of various beers. This place produces some of the best beer I've had East of Big Muddy River. The decor is not original by any means, but there is plenty of indoor and outdoor space to enjoy and the interior windows are large, affording a view of this slowly gentrifying area of a Memphis. Oh cmon! Good grief, get yourself lost in some high cotton!! This place is awesome, awesome. Beer and goodness plain and simple. THIS is the place in Memphis that somehow captures the exact hard to describe thing missing from other Memphis micros, let alone other brewpubs. The brews are tops, I mean TOPS. I would buy these in the bottle because they are great, not motivated solely by any misplaced home-crowd devotion. The IPA? Shaddup. I wish I could brew this at home. I am a bit embarrassed I don't know more about these folks and their world class products in a uniquely Memphis setting, however after this experience I am ready to research their offerings again and again. High Cotton seems to attract a mature audience with a palette for the largely Belgian inspired offerings here. Food? Nope. However an LA style food truck is parked out front. I am hoping they will blend those 2 entities into a seamless customer experience St Louis brewery style... but one day at a time. One of the founders Ross Avery was kind enough to conduct an impromptu brewery tour. Service was super great. During my visit they were literally filing baby bottles with beer (for adults) at a baby shower hosted at their handsome venue, so so wrong and so right. We came to Memphis for one day, and we really like going to breweries. I pulled up on yelp and this highly rated one popped up. It was about a 15 minute walk from the hotel we were staying at-I don't think it's located in the best area but I am an out of towner. We had been going to bars all week and it was nice to just get a nice high quality beer in. We both ordered the saison beer which was 5 each. I would say that's a lot cheaper than some of the breweries I've been to in Chicago. We were able to sit in the other room which is a big open space. You are able to watch them make the beers. I also enjoyed the style of the inside of the brewery. Definitely worth popping into to get away from the touristy Beale street! read more
