Oh cmon! Good grief, get yourself lost in some high cotton!! This place is awesome, awesome. Beer and goodness plain and simple. THIS is the place in Memphis that somehow captures the exact hard to describe thing missing from other Memphis micros, let alone other brewpubs. The brews are tops, I mean TOPS. I would buy these in the bottle because they are great, not motivated solely by any misplaced home-crowd devotion. The IPA? Shaddup. I wish I could brew this at home. I am a bit embarrassed I don't know more about these folks and their world class products in a uniquely Memphis setting, however after this experience I am ready to research their offerings again and again. High Cotton seems to attract a mature audience with a palette for the largely Belgian inspired offerings here. Food? Nope. However an LA style food truck is parked out front. I am hoping they will blend those 2 entities into a seamless customer experience St Louis brewery style... but one day at a time. One of the founders Ross Avery was kind enough to conduct an impromptu brewery tour. Service was super great. During my visit they were literally filing baby bottles with beer (for adults) at a baby shower hosted at their handsome venue, so so wrong and so right. Stopped by Memphis for one day and I immediatley knew I wanted to stay away from Beale street, where all the tourist congregate. Once again, I pulled out my Handy Dandy Yelp app and searched for local breweries. A couple of them came up, but the flashy "Beer" sign at High Cotton caught my attention. We stayed in the reserve building and walked about 20 minutes. The sun was not our friend that day and we arrived soaked from the sweat and humidity. We walked in and it felt like a different world. Outside it's so lonely and looks almost abandoned, but inside, very alive and relaxed atmosphere. We ordered two Hefeweisen's (our favorite) and paid $10 for both. Luckily some patrons were on their way out and we were able to sit at the table and enjoy our glorious beers. "Oh, it's goooood, " is what my guy said after his first taste. I nodded in agreement as I was sipping on mine. There were a lot of people dresses in scrubs, so we assumed most of them were out of their hospital shift. They also had a few board games, although we were just there to enjoy the beer and people watch. I also noticed they have doggy water bowls which made me love that place even more. We were visiting from KC area and thought we would swing by this place because it had good reviews (and the beer was really good) but unlike most places in KCMO they offer very limited food and the menu items they do offer would not be things I would pair with beer. We also had our kids tag along, whom I might add are good in this scene and literally sat and played Janga at a table. Anyways - didn't seem like they were super kid friendly (this is just a vibe I got though, they were perfectly nice) however, most places around us welcome kids so I don't know if that's just not really common here? Or just this particular place? Which could very well be the case. Anyways - beer was good. They are open VERY limited hours and days. Overall, I'm glad we went. And for all I know what I am used to is the exception to the rule with these kinds of places. read more

I came here for a Pints for Pits fundraiser. Both the venue and the event were fantastic!! The fundraiser went pretty well. High cotton had discounted beers in support of the event, and the organizers had a silent auction with some amazing items to bid on. The paintings in particular were stunning. There were tons of people with their pups and everyone was having a great time. High Cotton also had a food truck parked right outside the brewery, and the food looked pretty yummy. This was my first time coming to High Cotton. They normally have 5$ beers on tap, and beer tasters with your choice of 4 beers for $8. The layout of the place is nicely done. Cozy but well lit. I would definitely come back here. Only annoying thing I can think of is that they only had one single stall in the women's bathroom which resulted in a long waiting line. read more

This is a nice place, especially on a college football Saturday. We stopped by looking to watch LSU v AL. Huge screen in back room smaller in front. It's RT friendly and we got to pet a lot of great canines. Beer selection is nice the Mexican lager, Scottish ale, Belgian golden, and DIPA were all tasty. Love a great taproom, and love supporting local! Great craft beers and brews, with a good selection. Feeling hungry as well, just order some grub from across the street at Kudzu's or from the switching food truck or vendor outdoor. Covered patio as well in the alleyway. Comfortable atmosphere within, some sort of modern warehouse woodsy type of décor. Not sure what to drink, well just start off with a flight, reasonably priced as well, aka cheap! Visiting Memphis with friends, we stopped in here on a Friday early evening. The inside is very comfortable and the big neon Beer sign behind the bar is pretty cool! They have board games, so we each got a flight of beers and played a game. They do Live Event Trivia on Fridays at 7, which is fun but we didn't stay for. The main reason I'm only giving 3 stars is because we weren't that impressed with the beers. None of them were bad, but nothing stood out either. Just all very average in our opinion. We checked out a few other local breweries on our trip and enjoyed their beers more. So, the space and atmosphere here is very relaxed and good for hanging out, just didn't Wow us with the beers. read more

This is probably one the most unprofessional customer service ever. Totally disappointed in the service. My husband was ordering and put his wallet on the counter as the bartender pushed his wallet around with her dirty rag as to clean the counter. When I went up to order another round she completely ignored me. As to why we didn't leave on the first offense I don't know. I'm a big fan of beer & love checking out local taprooms, so I was quite excited to give High Cotton a go! Their taproom is trendy and inviting, and I really enjoy how they have a shelf full of board games. I also have yet to be disappointed by one of their brews, so that's a plus in my book! I have been back a few times since my first visit, it's the perfect place to go for an afternoon beer and some conversation. Well... High Cotton has been one of my favorite local beers since they began serving it last summer. My favorite is still the Scottish and I usually cannot drink dark beers. It is by far the best dark beer out there. Now the tap room is open and it is amazing! The decor is very rustic and they used a lot of reclaimed wood. The location is pretty neat, it looks like there are a ton of changes being made in that area. Go check it out! read more

Finally, Memphis gets another quality brewery that's open to the public. And what an opening! The venue looks gorgeous, the guys and gals who run it seemed very much on-the-ball on the absurdly busy opening day (adding extra bars in the back was an excellent idea), and--most importantly--the beer lineup was ready for primetime. High Cotton's beers didn't blow me away when I first had them a year ago. But over time it seems like they've mastered the craft of brewing with Belgian yeast for their saisons and have started to branch off in some exciting new directions. The new beers I had today--their Hefeweizen and the Pilsner--were solid examples of the style (I actually got a banana flavor on the hefe, which is desirable) and their saison is the perfect summer beer. Not as sure how much I enjoyed their Beet and Cherry Saison, but it was interesting and a good alternative to their regular standbys like the good but--surprise!--bitter ESB. The main bar is beautiful and the servers were all patient and accommodating despite the crush of orders. Ideally there'd be a way to open a few more doors through some of the chokepoints if they keep getting this crowded, which is very much a possibility given how Wiseacre is slammed every moment it's open. In the future, food trucks might make more sense in the back than in the front. The location is great, right across the street from Kudzu's and within walking distance of some of the Madison Ave places like Arepa and Salsa. I don't know if it will continue in the future, but ample parking seemed to be available at a lot right across Monroe. I look forward to seeing what else they'll do with their considerable space in the future. read more

We didn't stay inside for long, but headed to the covered outdoor space that has a huge fan. It was very pleasant. There is also some sidewalk seating. What else? Oh the beer - great! read more

I've been coming here several times over the last few months for their student happy hour on Thursdays. The service is always excellent - very informative and prompt. The space is well-decorated, with plenty of sitting areas and usually a food truck right outside to satisfy my "have beer need carbs" feeling. I've taken to like many of HCB's brews, especially the milk stout, dunkelweizen, and saison. After getting an impromptu tour of their brewery backdoors by a staff member, I am very confident they're the real deal and will only grow more popular with time. It's a great place to have a low-key afternoon or evening, either after work or with some friends. read more

High Cotton has a nice taproom with plenty of parking. I liked the atmosphere of the brewery but was underwhelmed by the service. Nothing was wrong or bad but they didn't really talk to us or take time to tell us anything about them or their beer. Being our first visit to a Tennessee brewery it would have been nice to talk to them, learn about their beer and maybe get recommendations about other good local beer spots. We tried pretty much everything they had on tap, my favorites were the Milk Stout and the Saison. read more

I'm not a huge beer person. I have a few that I like and a lot that I don't. After going to the High Cotton Taproom, I can only come to one conclusion...I've been drinking a lot of really bad beer. The bartender was pretty friendly. I went on a quieter night, so there weren't a lot of people there. The best part about going to these taprooms is trying a bunch of different beers. So naturally, they offer a flight. Here is my one tip. Ask the bartender for their recommendations, and tell them what kind of beer you like/don't like. Oh and don't be afraid to try something new! Once I decided on a flight, I was happy that I took the plunge and tried something new. They had beers with hints of coffee and chocolate, and just overall a high-quality selection. No, they don't have food but yes, they do have a food truck. So I know this is going to sound crazy, but this place is perfect for a date night. If you're looking for something "different" to do, this is the perfect place. You will have flights you can share and something to talk about if the date is going back. This place is great!!!!! I am the biggest fan of the Rye Cascade IPA, but they have a great variety of extra bitters, ambers, and stouts. Also, the atmosphere is just really cool. Not too large, not too dark, there are a few tables, seats at the bar, and high top tables so that groups can kinda stagger and you can have more privacy if you wish. I absolutely adore the modern rustic appeal of the place with the cool light wood and metalworks and bright vintage style lights. The bartender was very friendly and helpful, the place was clean and homey, and Ryan (the owner, founder, brewer) was around checking on people, clearing glasses and taking more orders. He even let my friend take a "souvenir glass" with the promise that we would come back. Basically, great atmosphere for a relaxed night out, great people, and great product! read more

We visited High Cotton on a Sunday evening. I enjoyed the Bourbon Barrel Stout. The bartender selected a flight for my husband. His favorite was the Scottish Ale. I didn't realize that the front area is dog-friendly, and I wish I would've before we came! We sat next to a precious golden doodle. The bartenders are conversational and friendly. Saturday afternoon was beautiful, and we stopped for some afternoon beers. Their selection is diverse, but eclectic - I would definitely recommend taking a look ahead of time to see if they'll have something you're interested in drinking, because some are interesting/different. The taproom is cool, but kind of small - just a room to drink beers with a TV, nothing more. There was a sushi food truck, which we thought was pretty cool (since High Cotton doesn't serve food). Out of the three breweries we went to in Memphis High Cotton had the best beer. The atmosphere is nice, they have a friendly staff and the beer is better than most. I'm surprised that people in Memphis recommended the other two breweries so highly. High Cotton had the best balanced and closest to form beers. Their Scottish Ale was nice, the Ctzar was my favorite as a good balanced IPA and their Lager was subtle and well made. Stop by as this is the best beer I had that was made in Memphis. read more
