The store opened 2 hours late yesterday - I've recently had my routine of getting a half gallon of cold brew and they charge me a bit extra as I add the limeade to it. The staff today refused to do it, and said they did not know how to (it's prebatched and on the menu). I informed them I've done this several + times now and it's simply cold brew plus mix, I'd be happy to pay whatever. They had me waiting for a while.I informed them I'd wait. To only tell me they can't ring up cold brew ^ which is clearly outlined on the menu as half gallon cold brew prices plus add ons. Just bad attitude and service overall, weird not to want someone to pay "whatever" and get turned down. So in a rust ended up paying $7 for a limeade cold brew that was mainly ice. I had to look it up and there are five Houndstooth locations in Austin. This specific one is a just fine little cafe with a great working space vibe. It's stark inside with the plain white decor and bright lighting. It can feel a little off putting when you first walk-in. The staff is consistently friendly whenever I go. I don't come here often, just occasionally when I have the opportunity to pop in right before a work meeting. The cold brew is delicious. I get it black and to-go. The baristas are really quick; I rarely have to wait. The few times I have, I was held up maybe ten-ish minutes. It's a good location, and I constantly see a ton of folks on laptops working away. I think it's the quietest one I have ever been in. Stop in if you're in the area, hopefully you'll get some good parking. I'll definitely be back. read more

We love the houndstooth chain so we always look forward to trying other locations. This was my first time at this location. On a weekday afternoon, I found street parking, the line was short, there was plenty of parking, and my cinnamon spice latte came out quickly. This coffeeshop has interesting seasonal beverages but does a great job at the simple stuff. I have to say that my favorite thing to get here is an americano -- it tastes super clean, as if the water is triple-filtered and the coffee hasn't been roasted too long. The staff is hit or miss. The amount of snobbery that can go on in this establishment is ridiculous. I cannot imagine taking someone who doesn't know what their coffee order is here...they would feel so targeted and uncomfortable! Also, where the heck are the outlets. Great place to grab coffee, meet friends, study, and chill! Service is great, coffee is tasty, and there is a good amount of seating. I live nearby and this has become my go-to for WFH, studying, and meeting up with friends. The baristas are extremely friendly, and I love that they take the time to get to know everyone as they prepare your order. They also have a wonderful selection of little pastries all day, as well as tacos in the morning. It's a shame that there is so much construction going on in the building itself at the moment, because the scaffolding is covering basically the whole cafe, making it look closed (but it's not!). My go-to is either a hot latte or cappuccino. Highly recommend going, even if the construction makes it look closed! read more

As I have been exploring all of the different coffee shops in Austin, I have come to realize that there are two types of coffee shops. The social coffee shops and the working coffee shop. Houndstooth is definitely a social coffee shop. First, the ambiance of the coffee shop is really nice and open. I love a modern classic coffee shop with a nice aesthetic so I appreciate that they have such a cute and simplistic vibe. The music was so good too. Usually I prefer when a coffee shop doesn't have music on super loud but I appreciated all of the music they were playing. Now, with that being said, they had NO outlets. I had come to study and get work done but unfortunately I wasn't able to get much done cause my computer died and there was no plugs. After 6pm they turn off the lights and turn up the music too. I had a regular hot latte with white chocolate syrup and their holiday foam and it was absolutely delicious! They have so many drink options and they also have a bar if your would rather have an alcoholic beverage. Overall I would come back to catch up with friends and if i'm in the area but I would not come back to study. read more

They don't have any coconut milk or heavy cream. It just seems weird- those are pretty standard coffee add ins. The other is the fact when you pay, you can't touch the credit card screen. So the cashier turns it around and says, loudly, in this very small space with people standing in line listening "do you want to tip". So not only do you have to bc who wants the be THAT guy, but then you have to give an amount and again, who wants to be THAT GUY? I'm all for tipping but I do it because I want to- not because I'm weirdly shamed to. And I get it, it's covid but all other places simply wipe a screen or use paper receipts to write a tip in. There's plenty of outlets inside for working and WiFi. I've worked from here when WiFi at my house was down and it was lovely. My one critique is that I wish they had cinnamon for coffee drinks. Visited Houndstooth for some remote work during our visit to Austin. Enjoyed the coffee from Houndstooth. They had breakfast tacos and a small pastry selection. We were close enough to walk, but it doesn't appear that parking is easy in the area. Three stars because, while it appears to be a great location for working remotely, there are no outlets to charge a laptop. We found out the hard way when our laptops alerted us the battery was low. A lot of other reviews mention it as well, but I haven't looked ahead unfortunately. Maybe to save on their electric bill? Maybe to discourage people from staying seated all day? Who knows, but I would have appreciated a heads up there were no outlets when we asked for the Wi-Fi password. read more

Houndstooth Coffee was the perfect after dinner pick me up! We needed a quick, late night caffeine fix before driving back to Houston, Texas, and we got that and more. Coming here on a Saturday night, we happened to come in during Vinyl Funk and Soul Night with DJ Champale. There was great music playing, lights to add ambiance, and a chill crowd enjoying the night. I decided to try their chai latte, but I made it "dirty" by adding a shot of espresso, and my friend tried their Japanese iced coffee. The drinks came out great, the coffee was high quality, and we loved how they stayed open late compared to other coffee shops. If we weren't driving back to Houston, we would have tried one of their champagne cocktails like the "Soul 75" or "Lil' Deuce Coupe." Stunning space with clean lines and earth tones. I'm obsessed with everything in the space. It's way more convenient for me than the downtown location. It's bigger, has more to offer, and has quite the comfy chairs! They've got beer and wine y'all! They're open 7-7 and soon till midnight. They have some of the best housemade syrups and I love to add their honey syrup to an almond milk latte. If you want a place to hang out, work, or just have some alone time, Houndstooth MLK should be your spot. They've got retail parking spots at the Platform. Also, bring a fully charged laptop because they only have usb outlets. WiFi works really well! Staff are soooo nice and are coffee making pros! Check out their new espresso pourers. Inside and outside there is plenty of seating and nice ambience to make yourself comfortable and set up shop for a while if you need. The barista's were also nice and attentive. Now onto the not-so positive: I got an iced matcha latte w/ oat milk and I have to say it was pretty flavorless. I am not a coffee drinker, so my go-to orders are matcha or chai, and I expect a level of sweetness in both. A lot of the time, as was the case today, coffee shops make really subpar tasting non-coffee options and it's quite disappointing. I would come here again to do work or meet-up with a friend, but I likely won't be ordering anything to drink other than water if I do, unfortunately. read more

Meh. This would be 2 stars if not for the super friendly service. I like the spaciousness of this location compared with their spot on N. Lamar which I am a fan of. The main issue I had here was I just didn't think the espresso was very good. I've never felt that way at their N. Lamar location where I've easily had at least 10 espressos at. The wifi was pretty good and their bench seating has some leather cushioning that was really nice. I can't say for sure that I'd be back. Houndstooth has finally opened up a new location in East Austin! And it's only a 10 min. drive from UT. I love how it's super bright and airy inside the coffeeshop. Ceilings are high, and noise level is low. One of the walls has "The Pattern of Coffee and People" written on it which I thought it was aesthetically pleasing. I'm really into monochromatic design, and that's exactly what Houndstooth went for!! Love it. Baristas are friendly. Coffee is good - I highly recommend the vanilla chai. Vanilla latte was just okay. I wouldn't say this place is the ideal location to work/study. There are no outlets for your laptop; however, they do provide USB outlets. Seats are pretty uncomfortable as well. I think this place is great for simply chatting with your friends while enjoying your favorite cup of coffee. As for parking, it is not an issue. There's A LOT of parking spots in the back of the building near an apartment complex/metro station. All in all, this place is not an ideal work/study location. Consistent with all their other locations. By consistent, I mean their coffee, service, and environment. This one seems larger or at least longer than the other two locations. Parking is scarce, you'll have to park a bit down then walk if there isn't any on the street. I just wish they had outlets here. They only have USB plugs. I get it, this is probably to prevent people from staying all day on their laptop. But damn that's what I do :( This is definitely more of a meet someone over coffee or read a book kind of place. This has become one of my frequent morning stops after I work out. I pop by for a Cortado and some cold brew and sometimes a taco. The team are really friendly, and the coffee is obviously delicious. I think the prices are totally fair for what you get. Having Tacodeli deliciousness available in the morning is always lovely. Parking is easy enough on the street or in the little lot behind the building, so access is fairly simple if you don't live within walking distance. First, the coffee is wonderful. It tastes great and is reasonably priced for the quality. Thus, three stars. However, there's an upsell vibe with every transaction. For example, I ordered a "small black coffee" the other day. The gentleman behind the bar asked me which type of coffee I'd like. I said, "whichever is your favorite." He served me the reserve coffee - which was almost twice as expensive. Without telling me that it was almost twice as expensive. I was told that the prices are on the menu, so I shouldn't have been surprised by the cost. I've just never been to a coffee shop that up-charges quite this much. It feels skeezy. Generally, like at Greater Goods or Starbucks, the two different brewed coffees are the same price. You're basically just choosing between flavor profiles and roasts. I actually love that Houndstooth offers a reserve coffee. It's fun - like at a cute bar that has a special whiskey. I just don't think it's fair to be RyanAired with price gotchas. Considering that 32% of Americans from all income brackets live paycheck to paycheck (check the new New York Fed report), it seems unfair that a cup of joe can jump from $3 to $5 in a blink. A little bit of transparency goes a long way. read more
