Stopped by Houndstooth for an afternoon pick-me-up. This no-frills coffee shop did the trick. I ordered a matcha latte and my boyfriend, a regular whole milk latte. I appreciate the fact that the barista measured out the matcha powder. I oftentimes get a matcha latte at other large-chain coffee shops and they end up tasting way too chalky and burnt. This was perfect and just the right temperature to combat the 20 degree weather outside. They are a bit on the pricey side which is kind of a turn off however, I would definitely try this place again. read more

Being 100% honest - I bought a double shot only because I had to use their bathroom. It seemed like the polite thing to do. Ordered a double shot and the barista gave me a few options with really specific flavor notes. She was pretty enthusiastic about one that had notes of "white grapes". I was skeptical but went with that one. She was not embellishing. The bottom line is that I bought some espresso on a whim with no expectations whatsoever and had an excellent double shot that made my evening. This wasn't getting a cup of coffee from someone just doing a job, this was someone sharing something they are passionate about with the world. I am 100% sold on this place and get back when I'm in the area. There is a time and place for cold/indifferent transactions. This is efficient and makes up the majority of my consumer experience. If you want something special, though, this is the spot. read more

4 star for coffee, 4 star for accessibility Good coffee, great seasonal drinks, the nine iron in the fall is super tasty. The ambiance is good, indoor is nice and quiet, with a few tables to sit outside. Coffee: Good, some of the tastiest cold brew, not too bitter, pretty smooth for not being a nitro. Can't speak to any custom coffee drinks (espresso, lattes) as they do NOT do pour over but their regular drip is good in a bind. Other: Good selection of beans, chocolates and other coffee extras. Accessibility: Parking lot can be full, at least 2 minimum handicap parking spots and a few 30 min pick up spots. A few steps to walk or a ramp that can be a little long but has hand railing. The ramp and steps are cement, not very slippery when wet. Slippery is the parking lot paint lines which is common. And the door to enter is not too heavy, easy to pull or push open. No automatic door or button. read more

Came here for a co-op and enjoyed my cold brew within the views of downtown. Although it's a bit intimate, the crowd itself is quite large since it's within a large office building. Cold Brew was amazing and the open window concept was beautiful. Loved all the natural lighting at Houndstooth. Parking might not be the easiest but I will definitely make it a point to come back! This location is great for studying or working so if you need to zone out then come here. read more

I went to the location on Rock Rose in domain. A very happening coffee shop with plenty of indoor seating that offers many coffee drinks and a bakery as well. I went on a Saturday morning and the line was to the front door. They were efficient and got us through in a timely manner. I really enjoyed my vanilla latte it was delicious and hot. A great spot in the domain area to take a break from shopping for a quick snack and grab a coffee. read more

Limited selection on styles (e.g. no pour over) and limited selection on beans and roast (e.g. house roast plus one other only). Place was nice and clean and all, coffee wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't amazing. Anyone who says they are REALLY into coffee and says this place 5-stars would benefit from some unique origins, washes, fermentation processes, etc bc there is a-lot more out there than what was available at this shop. I got their "reserve" bean/roast. They couldn't do pour over which is fine so I got drip which she told me was "very close" to being a pour over except it had probably been sitting in a carafe for a while... The coffee overall wasn't bad. A little weak for my taste but definitely better than anything I would have received at the Starbucks close by. Final word is for sure better than Starbucks but coffee nerds won't be wowed but could be satisfied to get their morning cup here. read more

Super cute concept and very friendly staff! Arrived here before we went to holy roller for brunch. I got them masala chai and the hubs got a hot chocolate. We decided to get a small waffle so we got the savory. The massage I was delicious! I didn't even expect it, being Indian, I know a good massage to try when I taste one! I got it with oat milk and it did not disappoint! The hot chocolate was not very chocolatey and I could have done without tasting it. The waffle was OK, fresh but I probably would not get it again. It had fresh arugula on it with cherry tomatoes and balsamic. I could barely taste the balsamic, but we eat it because we did not know how long the brunch line would be at holy roller. Super cool chain, great alternative to Starbucks and friendly staff. You can truly tell that the locals are very loyal judging by the very long lines the whole entire time we sat in there. Will definitely try again when we are back. read more

I happened to come during the morning rush, but they were pretty efficient. It was worth the wait and the short walk over from my hotel - definitely better than the hotel Starbucks option! They have lots of indoor and outdoor covered patio seating, and a lot of people were working out of there. I got an iced latte, oatmilk, unsweetened. Their house espresso was great - not too bright, not too bitter, very smooth but with the right kick. They also have breakfast tacos from Tacodeli and have pastries. Houndstooth is a bit more expensive than your national coffee chains, but they certainly make a better coffee. read more

When you have a local senior cycling club discussing the latest bikes, a bunch of studious artsy types hidden behind a series of Macbooks, you know you are in a place of superfine coffee. The joint is located in the ever corporate building of 401 Congress. Inside is anything but business corporate. The place is comfortably lit and laid out with a variety of comfortable and uncomfortable seating to discourage sitting if you are the type that believes sitting is the new cancer. It is large and varied enough to accommodate all. The coffee is adequate and on the pricier side. I'd visit again if in the area. read more

Perfect post yoga pick me up! I'm visiting from LA so was walking downtown and read about Houndstooth on Eater. There's plenty of seating inside and outside, staff is super friendly and the coffee is great! I had a small iced vanilla latte with oat, I will say it's a bit pricy but definitely worth trying. It's a bit loud inside so not ideal for work calls but really great otherwise! read more

Opening a coffee shop in an apartment complex right on a major highway...genius. it doesn't hurt that there is plenty of room to sit, both inside and out. The coffee here was very nice. Just ordered some mochas, and they were the perfect level of sweet. Not quite as good as the Hideout coffee that we had earlier, but we were absolutely NOT disappointed. We'd definitely come here again if we were locals. read more

This was a really great find! We came on the Saturday after the big freeze and water boil. The baristas were ready to serve me and help out as soon as I walked in. I got an iced vanilla latte with almond milk and an iced dark chocolate latte. The coffee itself was really good! My fiancé really like his dark chocolate latte, it was the perfect bitterness and sweetness! I loved my vanilla latte too. I would totally recommend coming here if you are in need of a coffee fix downtown. The only downside is the price. The coffees were fairly small (maybe 12 oz?) and the total BEFORE tip came out to $14. I expected an upcharge for the almond milk, but did not expect the total to come out this high. Regardless of the price, I enjoyed my coffee and appreciated that they were eager to help as soon as I arrived. I will likely be back here! read more

Small, simple menu with a quick/informative barista and located in a pretty large space as part of an office building downtown. The only thing I didn't like was that we had to park on a different street and walk, but it is DT Austin so what can I say. If I were still a student, I'd definitely escape the campus area and study here instead. I had the sweet latte and it had just a hint of sweetness which was what I was looking for. The latte was smooth and didn't have that burned, bitter taste some places have. I'll definitely stop by again when I'm back in town and check out their other locations around Austin and see if they are more accessible read more

The location is fantastic if you're already in downtown/working in the same building. The servers are always cheerful and kind. There's a lot of seating both inside and outside, but expect a fairly long line in the mornings. I'm generally pretty basic with liking my espressos and Americanos and theirs are lovely. They can recommend a good blend to give a try and the coffee definitely packs a punch. Parking is what you would expect for downtown with either street parking or expensive garage parking, but if you're already downtown it's definitely worth hitting up for a quick break or morning pick me up. read more

On the pricier end of coffee shops (similar to Starbucks) but definitely worth it. Their iced coffee was a bit too watery but I'd get something stronger next time I'm in the area. Has a very rustic vibe, friendly and warm staff had some nice tunes playing on a Saturday afternoon. Be sure to check this place out and support local businesses. read more

Delicious vanilla oat milk latte. The baristas were personable and friendly. The shop was located at a convenient spot on our walk to the Capitol. The croissant I had last year was so perfectly crunchy and flakey, literally one of the best croissants I've had in the states. This year it was still good but didn't have that super flaky crunchy top. Still recommend! I've only had the plain. Guava next maybe? And yes, the line is always "long" but they move very quickly. The line was probably 20 people and took less than 10min. Last year they had breakfast tacos in the courtyard from a local place, but I didn't see that this year so maybe it's not happening anymore. Overall 100/10 recommend this place! Worth the wait.

All of their matcha drinks are made-to-order which is another good sign. There was plenty of seating inside for groups up to 4, and a lot of people were studying/hanging out when I went. It was a little noisy given how crowded it was, so headphones are a must if you're looking for some quiet. Parking was not bad either since we parked in the garage close by, but it was limited to 30-mins max on the 1st floor, so I'm not sure where people who stay longer park.
