I've been here twice and I've gotten a total of two things 1) Latte with Soy Milk & 2) Latte with Almond Milk. A Latte. So basic right? Nothing special right? That was what I thought too. My friends and I are not morning people, so when my boyfriend offered to grab us coffee from a coffee shop near our Airbnb we said yes right away. Naturally, I just picked something basic AF to get the job done. He came back with coffee in hand and I took one sip and was incredulous.. "Did you add flavoring to it?" "No.." "Whattt." It was a simple innocuous Soy Latte and it tasted amazing. We made another trip back before our weekend getaway was over. The Latte with Almond milk was also on-point. Come to LA, Houndstooth. I would agree with most reviewers that espresso drinks here are of higher quality, and baristas are friendly. However, it is in corporate office building, so armosphere is nothing special, and, more importantly, there are very inflated prices. 2 drinks for almost $12! Ridiculous, I would rather go elsewhere for my espresso drinks. read more

The Congress Avenue location is in the lobby of an office building and is quite elegant with a beautiful outdoor seating area, even if the whole set up attracts a formal and stuffy clientele . The cappuccino was well-made and delicious so well worth the price. The coffee is also decent when fresh. All said, it's a good starting point if you're a coffee addict and new to Austin. It also opens early (6:30 AM) if you like to start your day very early. read more

We were on the hunt, the hunt for smoked, charred meat from the pits of the masters of Austin, but first we need 'feine in our veins so that we would have the energy for our trek. We found Houndstooth and well, fate had our cards played right as our Barista's name was... Austin!!! C'mon now, that's pretty amazing! As Austin noticed Roland L's GGET cap, he nervously extracted our espressos expertly. Our Java was quite amazing, smooth and delicious. Why only 4 stars, well, our second trip by a different barista scored a lot lower, more like a 3.5. I've been here twice now, once just recently and once before a few years back. Great coffee spot downtown in the lobby of the Chase building (the Batman building). The first time I had a pour over and more recently I had the house drip coffee. No regrets either which way. Delicious coffee! The barista was so helpful and quite the comedian so I really enjoyed coming in for my cup of coffee. They really focus on the beans so the menu is limited as far as specialty drinks, but the coffee is just so good you won't need anything else. I just got an iced almond milk latte and it absolutely blew my mind. They had a nice selection of pastries and also some breakfast taco options (although they ran out of the kind we wanted so we didn't get to try any). Easy to find once you know it's there, tucked back along the side to the entrance of Frost Bank. Was excited to see Houndstooth has another location. I suppose I am a bit of a coffee geek, and Houndstooth knows what they are doing. They have an extensive training they put their baristas through, and they are very well versed in the beans they have on "tap". True baristas are artists, they really can make a great coffee taste bad if they aren't familiar with the bean and conditions. I was lucky to be able to join the Coffee Geekery event via Yelp that occurred here. It was my first coffee cupping in the US. Great way to try a variety of quality coffees and meet the people behind what makes Houndstooth unique. You will never taste the same thing twice, as the coffee here changes, as it should. It was nice to come out of the class learning a couple of things. I liked their new sister label Tweed. Houndstooth without fail is one of the better shops in Austin. They're service is great they have a great atmosphere but most importantly, they pull a decent spro. I got a cappuccino while my wife got her usual latte. We were handed really neat mugs with little Texas on them my wife had s uprise Texas logo on the bottom of her mug. All in all this shop was one of my more pleasant trips this time in Austin. Thanks to the great baristas at Houndstooth I'll be sure to recommend to fellow travelers! Quick service, delicious coffee, clean shop! The staff is really friendly and the shop is a great place to study or work.

It was the last day of my weekend trip with my best friends and it was so hot! We went to Houndstooth and got an iced latte to cool off from the heat (it's way too hot in Austin!) I live in Seattle and am a coffee snob, to a fault. On a trip to Austin I stopped by Houndstooth one morning looking for drinkable coffee. The cappuccino I had was amazing. Too good to be true honestly. So I went back in the afternoon for another. Different barista pulled me a cappuccino and I took my time drinking it down. Honestly, this is the best cappuccino I have ever had. I don't know what the magic is here, but two different baristas pulled epic drinks. Nice coffee shop on Lamar next to Uchiko and now one downtown. Pretty well made coffees with the perfect touch of crema on the espresso shots and baristas who know what they are doing. They carry stuff from Counter culture and Madcap and it is always interesting to taste an espresso there and then rush over to other places (literally with all that caffeine..) and try it again there. The nice thing is that they also offer a small variety of non-dairy alternatives for the vegetarians among us. I particularly like the coffee with mint and a splash of selzer (I think that's their eponymous specialty) which is quite refreshing in the summer. All in all, a pretty good place to swing by for caffeine or downers in form of beer and wine. read more

We stumbled upon Houndstooth while exploring DT Austin. It is at the base of the Frost Tower, one of the nicest buildings in DT Austin. The cafe has plenty of room and seating, great vibe and friendly baristas. A cool setting outside the houndstooth to sit and enjoy your coffee. They have a pretty interesting variety of coffee. We had Cortado and brewed Coffee. Our drinks were well balanced, smooth and delicious . It is definitely the place for you if you're a coffee snob! Some of the speciality drinks are pricier. Fantastic coffee made with love and care. The baristas are wonderful, the ambience is pretty and modern. It gets packed in the mornings, so pplan accordingly to stand in line. It's worth the wait. Also, breakfast tacos! Thank god for a place that understands sometimes you don't want to choose between good coffee and a protein rich breakfast. Some of the friendliest baristas you'll find around here! Espresso is fantastic and they offer two different single origin coffees at a time. I got a cortado with their Tweed beans (Colombia) and the chocolatey notes became more distinct the longer I drank it. They sell Askinosie chocolate, a small bean-to-bar single origin chocolate, which is great for pairing. The coffee shop offers indoor and outdoor seating and readily accessible. Also the bathroom keys use frothing pitchers for key chains which is pretty hilarious. read more

I'm from Houston, and I've been to every coffee shop in the Houston city limits, I can honestly say they have the best location, and designs inside. The only downfall is they don't have their own parking lot, which seems to be the norm for Austin. They by far had one of the best cortado's I've ever drank... Even better than their Dallas location. It's very roomie for a downtown coffee shop, I was expecting it to be a very tight space since it's in the downtown area. The employees were very helpful, and kind. They seemed like they actually wanted to be there at 9 in the morning. I've heard a lot of hype from multiple friends, and family about this place, and it sure did live up to its recommendations. I have been at Houndstooth only twice but it is quickly becoming my go-to place when in downtown Austin. The coffee shop is in the lobby of the iconic Frost tower, but is quite comfortable and not too corporate. There is even a nice outdoor sitting area. The baristas are friendly and know what they are doing. The coffee is always exceptional. Their espresso machine is beautiful. This is clearly a shop run by people who know and love good coffee. I popped in to snag some coffee and a quick snack for breakfast. I'm a latte (barely sweet) kind of gal so the fact that this place emphasizes the good old standard cup of coffee made me nervous. That they had lattes and two seasonal cappuccinos on the menu reassured me! I ordered the cinnamon cappuccino and man it was good! I like my lattes and cappuccinos lightly sweetened, not sticky sweet, and this place made them just that without me needing to ask to tone down the sugar. I also got a banana chocolate chip muffin, of a decent size, and proceeded to inhale it. My total wast just under $10, and was well worth it. While I didn't try the breakfast burritos or the other snacks and sandwiches, they looked fabulous. The decor and the place was rather lovely on a Saturday morning, with folks of all ages grabbing a cup, alone and with friends. This was definitely a hidden gem. It was a little difficult to find because I was expecting an actual coffee shop (independent store) but Houndstooth coffee is a part of a big office building. I loved the red tile wall and the brown wood furniture. Houndstooth has a great atmosphere and the baristas were super knowledgeable about there different espresso beans.
