A great restaurant with a nice atmosphere and the food is really yummy. I have had almost everything on the menu at one time or another. The only thing that's not great in my opinion is the steaks which came out raw in the center because they scorched them too fast. Almost tasted like they boiled them or something so they weren't cooked inside very well no matter how much I tried to get them to fix that. Everything else and the drinks are quite good. Happy hour Is ALL DAY on Sundays! Highly recommend their raspberry long Islands. Not too sweet or too tart. Taste like juice but plenty of alcohol in it! Their stuffed shrooms are the best. I don't care what anyone says. Try dipping it in marinara sauce with the horse radish dip. I always order this when I come to houlihans. Thai wings = yum! Parmesan frites!!! If you love fries, def DO NOT SKIP on these. It comes with fries with sprinkled parmesan on top and comes with 3 different dipping sauces. Can't go wrong! We headed out to the Denton Houlihan's to celebrate my nephew's 40th birthday! My sister had been raving about the newly opened location and suggested we dine there for the celebratory lunch. It was a Sunday after church when we arrived at the restaurant. The restaurant is attached to the new Embassy Suites Hotel. The restaurant's decor is very inviting and they have a beautiful outside seating area. The five of us were seated right away. Our server introduced himself and proceeded to take our drink and appetizer order. My sister said we HAD to share an order of Houlihan's famous stuffed mushrooms. I love mushrooms so she didn't have to twist my arm. Two in our party didn't like mushrooms so that meant there was more for us. YAY! After delivering our drinks and our platter of the fried stuff mushrooms, our entree orders were taken. I decided on the Southern Calfornia Fish Tacos, a bowl of French onion soup, and my wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. I have traveled to San Diego several times and love the fish tacos there. I had high hopes Houlihan's fish tacos would live up to their menu description. While we waited on our entrees, three of us dove into the fried stuffed mushrooms. Oh my goodness, they were unbelievable. They were fried perfectly and stuffed with the cheese and herbs. A wonderful dipping sauce with a mild hint of horseradish accompanied the platter. I could have eaten the whole order of seven and would have been a happy camper. Shortly my soup was brought out. It was a bowl of hot gooey deliciousness. Yummy! Our entrees were good but mine was not outstanding. The fried Atlantic white fish was fried very nicely but there was no flavor to it. The slaw topping and sauce, which there was very little of, was OK. I had a side of charred pineapple rice which I didn't care for at all. After arriving in town for a business meeting early evening, I was happy to see this restaurant just off the lobby of the Embassy Suites hotel. I've eaten at a number of Houlihan's restaurants over the years but it's been quite sometime so I was looking forward to grabbing dinner here once I completed the hotel check-in process. After meeting up with a few colleagues we decided to have dinner before it got too late. The restaurant was mostly filled but we were able to be seated without a wait thankfully. I didn't realize at the time that this visit would be one of two visits I'd have during my time in the Denton area. My dinner visit was perfectly executed by the staff, the restaurant lighting provided a great atmosphere and the restaurant was a lot quieter than I expected which was another plus since my associates and I were hoping to discuss some business matters. I ordered a filet with asparagus and green beans, the steak came out a perfect medium rare and both vegetables were cooked perfectly retaining their textures and flavors. My second visit here turned out to be a little more chaotic, the hostess seemed to be very distracted and totally confused with our reservation since apparently there was a second party of the same size that had reservations too. Our party was relocated 3 times across the restaurant before we were seated in a room that had apparently been requested by the other party. This all seemed to confuse the servers and after a lengthy explanation which none of us were interested in the staff finally got back on track and we were able to place our lunch orders. Most of our group ordered the soup and salad luncheon special so they were eating quite awhile before those of us that didn't, I chose the cheddar burger which I must admit fell short in a lot of ways, first it was barley lukewarm by the time it arrived which was surprising since the wait was so long, the condiments I requested arrived a few minutes after the burger and to be honest although it was cooked correctly at medium it wasn't anything memorable or something I'd care to repeat. Although the service ended up being okay I was astonished by the difference between the dinner service and the lunch service even though it appeared the restaurant was a lot busier during dinner service with a more complicated menu. Over-all it was a pleasant experience and the two visits sort of offset each other making the total experience more average than anything else. What a surprising find! We were staying at the Embassy Suites Convention Center and surveying the chain restaurants within walking distance (IHOP, Cheddars, etc), but opted in the 100 degree heat to try the Houlihans located within the hotel. Expecting over priced meals and poor service, instead we had several delicious meals prepared and delivered with a staff that was helpful, had a great attitude, and got every request right every time. The first night I had the pot roast which was amazing. Elegantly presented and accompanied by lightly sautéed carrots and other light vegetables, it hit the spot. A couple days later I had the fish and chips for lunch, which was a huge plank of white fish literally about 12" long and 3" wide - fried with a delicious batter, served with well seasoned fries, and delicious Cole slaw. Sounds simple, but the portion size was huge and filled me up so much I didn't even have dinner that night - not one of those little 5" long fast food 'planks'. Others reported the meat loaf a huge hit - and the appetizers, especially the mushrooms were amazing. The first night we were a group of 26 who decided to eat there, and everyone was raving about their dinner. At a later lunch I sat next to a couple who live in Denton and they said they come there regularly. It's rarely filled and always immediate seating, while the nearby chains often have long wait times - we found a new secret favorite place to go for a quiet dinner with excellent food, good variety on the menu, and an amazing staff. Just moved across the street from this location and was very excited. First time there the drinks and food were fine however the waiter decided to add his own additional tip to my check. When I noticed I called the manager. His resolution was to just credit me the additional amount added to my check. Then completely dismissed it as if it was no big deal. Granted I was only due back the additional amount of tip that was added (which was $10 not allot but it's the principle). The credit never even happened. So needless to say. Food was really just okay. I ordered via UberEats so I will not be touching on service or atmosphere. However, the food was hot and was packaged just fine. We ordered the white bean salad as a appetizer. The description would have lead me to believe it was an actual salad however it was more crudités served with toast bites. It was just fine. Then we ordered the burger sliders. It was kind of dry and needed a lot of ranch to help it. The lettuce on it was also mixed with some sort of sauce which resulted in a very weird soggy lettuce. We also ordered the mushroom and cheese bites. These were quite odd in they were literally a whole big mushroom, surrounded in cheese and then fried. They were very watery and sort of tasteless. Lastly, we ordered the power greens salad with chicken. The salad itself was very good, and the poppyseed dressing was delicious. However, the grilled chicken was raw and pink in the middle, and inedible. There was some end pieces that were cooked, so I tried them and they were very rubbery. I just left Houlihan's. I travel to Denton a few times a year, and usually go here at least once because they have a dog friendly patio, until today the service was nice, and the food is decent for a chain restaurant. Never again. I was with my dog, and they seated me on the patio mid afternoon when the place was pretty quiet. I sat for 45 minutes and got no service whatsoever. I guess they don't want my business, which is good because they just lost a customer permanently. read more

Yesterday I visited Houlihan's with my husband and while my experience with the food and my server was good, I noticed some flaws within the service. I heard multiple of the servers coughing and hacking, most of them coming from the kitchen. A couple of them seemed ill just by looking at them. As an elderly lady I would appreciate if I could go into a restaurant and be able to enjoy my food without the fear of getting sick. Seriously guys? We just went through COVID y'all should know better! There is no place for illness in a restaurant especially if they are handling the food. Whether this is a management issue or solely the employees fault, I am upset and highly disappointed. Me and my husband will find a more sanitary place to eat from now on. Connected to hotel property, this Houlihans was a great choice. The service was great and the food choices were refreshing. Haven't been to a Houlihans since I lived in KC, their headquarters. I had steak and salad wedge, (fried asparagus or green beans? - i cant recall) stalks, avocado toast. Drink of choice was bourbon and bacon. The candied bacon was a bit funky, but the bourbon was a nice compliment to the meal choice. The steak was a bit tiny and thin. One guest of mine also received a very petite cut but received a huge pile of mashed potatoes and loved them - but probably not low calorie. The steaks IMHO could be a tad larger. Our group favorite was the avocado toast - we just had to find out what the big deal was about this and it did NOT disappoint. Our server was very patient and helpful. This restaurant is built as an addition to the new Embassy Suites in Denton. The overall atmosphere is classy and relaxed. The maroon walls & fire installations give the restaurant a cozy feel. We tried their fried asparagus, and their nachos (which had a seriously generous serving for only 6$ during happy hour) As for drinks, we tried their Long Island (it says "pitcher" in the menu, but it's more for one person), and the followed with a Bleeding Rose, which was basically like hard lemonade with a giant red ice cube that melts into it. Yet another longer than appropriate wait for food. Refills were not offered for tea; only once we asked did it get done. Our server was professional but the kitchen was OUT OF FRENCH ONION SOUP HOW DARE YOU and took at least 10 minutes for this news to get back to me. Thats where I have a problem because I ordered the tomato bisque (terrible, and not a true bisque) as a replacement and it hit the table along with our entrees. No discussion about the coursing of the meal whatsoever; not a critical error in it of itself as I wasn't feeling great, so I was going to have a French onion soup and take my entree home for later, and then my plan kind of just fell apart. I sent the bisque back but it was still on the bill when honestly in a corporate restaurant that comp should have been done no questions asked when they dropped the ball the first time around. No excuse not to know your 86s and then whoever was running expo should have caught that as well. The MOD should have checked in to apologize and see what else could be done. The takeaway is $60 + tip and one tea refill later, I left without having eaten anything. This is mostly about not having the soup, but there was a general lack of focus on communication and some small steps of service. We will still be back because the food is good but when we will is hard to say. read more

TLDR: My food was cold. Management is incompetent. We arrived on a slow Sunday afternoon, only 2 other tables present. The service started out strong, but immediately declined as the meal went on. Once I got my meal, which was cold and clearly sitting out for 10+ minutes, the server disappeared. When I flagged them down, I told the server my meal was cold who then prompted the "manager" to come over. The manager told me she would take care of it. She advised the kitchen staff to shave down my meal to reheat. Once I got my microwaved meal, she disappeared for 20 minutes and I could not get any service to pay my bill and leave. I understand they were slammed with 2 other tables, but I would think common curtesy would prevail. Nope. I'll never go back. Friday was my first time visit to Houlihan's although I have been to a different location a few years ago. The group I was with had about 50 people and the servers did a great job trying to accommodate everyone. I ordered the lunch combo with serves 1/2 portion wrap or sandwich with either soup or salad. The French fries were not hot but they quickly made the adjustment with a new order. The grilled chicken wrap was very tasty and Lydia did a great job getting the order accurate. If we are in the area we will likely go back. Service 5, food 5, drinks 4. Looks like this entire area is growing fast and likely competition will be present as well. I ordered take out and had their daily special for Tuesday which was a Big Island Burger (burger only with no sides for $10.95) and added a House Salad for $2.95. This place is relatively new and the Yelp reviews were not so kind. Additionally, I overheard a man say he had their burger the night before and got ill. Regardless, I gave it a try as I was too lazy to get and out of my hotel and drive. This location abuts the Embassy Suites so its convenient. Maybe it's just my luck but the burger was actually good. It was cooked medium rare which I ordered. Lots of flavors with pineapples, corn and they use shredded lettuce. There was much more ingredients which I could not describe but it made for a good burger. The salad with blue cheese dressing was fresh and paired well with the burger. When they work out all their kinks, I'm sure things will be much better but I enjoyed my meal even though it was take-out. First time to this restaurant, they had a malfunction of the refrigerators so several menu items were not available. Frankly I'm glad they did not chance serving spoiled food. We had the Crunchy spicy cauliflower for an appetizer, personally it was amazing but I would recommend sauce on the side to really get the crunchiness. My hubby had potato soup and I had french onion and both were good. He ate salmon that was ok but too salty for his taste. His garlic mashed potatoes were good.
