Oh Houlihan's needs HELP. One of the few remaining restaurants in the chain. Once a great restaurant presence with good food, drinks and service. This visit was subpar and food was mediocre. Service was very slow, but my waiter was pleasant. He was new so I cut him some slack. The kitchen and bar seemed to be backed up. It wasn't even a full restaurant. Ambiance was good it was cozy and clean. Food was lacking love, seasoning and flavor. The Thai Chile Wings were decent. They were crunchy and crispy. However, the chicken tasted bland. It was more like they dumped a bunch of sauce on it to give it some flavor. The pasta was just awful with no flavor at all. It tasted like plain boiled noodles. The WORST pasta ever made for me in my life. It looked better than it tasted. I could not even eat it and had to send it back. My cocktail arrived after my meal. It didn't look great and it was so late I sent it back as I was done eating. Overall it was a disappointing experience. Once a place I loved to dine at. It broke my heart to see this. I brought an out-of-town friend here last month and was pleasantly surprised at the service, the clean dining area and the food. I'll admit, it was early in the afternoon - before the mad rush of dinner. We were seated in the center dining area, which I normally dislike, but since it wasn't crowded, it was very nice. Our server brought us drinks right away and made sure we were familiar with the menu before leaving us. I tried something different and order the New York strip. Conveniently located inside the hotel I'm staying at for a conference, so I decided to check it out for dinner. Would like to note that you can order room service- I did not take advantage of that during this stay. I was seated quickly, which was nice--but I honestly can't imagine what the experience would've been like on a busier night. Service was slow, and two of our items I ordered were forgotten entirely (I ended up just canceling them). The food overall was average--not terrible, but nothing that really stood out. What we ordered: The scallop entrée was the highlight--nicely cooked and enjoyable. The pasta was underwhelming; I'd skip it next time. The appetizer dip was just okay--not bad, but not something I'd reorder. Although the drink menu was very limited (just two mocktails), I appreciated that they had a mocktail section at all. FOOD - Korean Chicken - The gochujang sauce and pineapple give a nice sweetness to the brown rice. It's also a bit on the spicy side which enhance the flavor of the overall dish. The snow peas were cooked to where they were still crispy which was delicious! I got the chicken grilled and it was cooked beautifully (juicy and not dry!). - Seared Salmon Pesto - The spaghetti squash noodles had a sweeter flavor to it - super delicious and great crunchy texture. The chive pesto was really yummy. Not super salty like other pesto sauce that I've tried. - Salted Caramel Gooey Butter Cake - This cake was on the richer side. The cake was super moist and had great sweet, caramel flavor with the sauce. The ice cream on top balanced the sweetness and complemented the gooey warmness of the butter cake. Food was delicious overall and presentation was so pretty. Definitely would come back to this place. Flavor of everything was great, service was top-notch, and would definitely recommend! I had an absolute blast at Houlihans. It's connected to the beautiful embassy suites. My husband and I live so close and were able to get drinks and food even though they were closing within the hour. The bartenders stole the show- the girls were so friendly and nice and didn't rush us or make us feel bad which some would for coming in late. They made great recommendations, adjusted one drink that I wanted sweeter, and made my husband and I feel right at home- we had lots of good conversation and laughs even in that small amount of time. We will most definitely be back! I recommend the fried stuffed mushrooms- they have cream cheese in it which was unlike any dish I've had so so good! Located in an Embassy Suites, we found this hidden gem after a church service close by. It's well kept and this Sunday afternoon it was not too busy at all. Very clean and servers are dressed up nicely. We were given a nice greeting, which you might expect at a hotel restaurant. This is a very sneaky day to go I think because the appetizers are only $5, so if you're looking for a place to catch some games, they have a bar area. Not really huge TVs but pretty good food that you can order throughout the game I would think. We ordered the lettuce wraps, ahi tuna, and dumplings. All pretty good, and I mean if we would have stopped there it would have been 5-star. My wife had a birthday coupon for $15 off. They do have selections under $15 but that's mostly burgers/ salads/ sandwiches. The really interesting plates though, go about $18 and up form there. My daughter got the original potato soup loaded with bacon, scallions, and cheddar. Not just that it's over 90-degrees outside, but the soup is a bit on the gritty side. It's like if you had to put the baked potato in a blender and then drink it, but lukewarm. Not the best option, but for $6 not breaking the bank either. My wife ordered the Sedona pasta, fettuccine with tomato concasse, shrimp and butter sauce. Some spinach mixed in there also and overall good flavor for $17.99 (minus the $15 coupon for her birthday so it turned out to be a great value...lol). The focaccia bread made for a nice dipping tool in the sauce. I got the Rangoon inspired stuffed chicken upon the recommendation of the server, who I will say is about as nice a lady as could be with a good sense of humor. Her name is Joanna. The chicken was pretty awesome with Thai chili sauce over it and Rangoon cheese and scallions delightfully tucked inside. They top it off with a dumpling and it all works....except for the rice which kind of reminded me of Uncle Ben's. I think it might have needed a minute or two more...or just use steam rice instead. For $18.99, not bad but fix that rice and you'd have a real winner. I ended the meal the way I started, with two more apps... I mean hey for $5 why not??? Got another round of the char-crusted ahi tuna and the pan-friend dumplings. Just as good as the first round so good consistency. For sure hit this place on Sunday or happy hour times and the value is built in. Our bill came to $68 after tax and less the coupon. Again happy hour value don't miss it! We figured in $85 to tip on before the coupon and left $17 for a job well done. Fantastic service, a little hit or miss on the food but some real winners in there. But if you go to this place outside of happy hour then you've missed the point! read more

One of the worst dining experiences of all time. The staff seemed unamused from the beginning. I visited the location at around 7:45pm , with reservations. The hostess seemed engulfed in other matters so there was a delay in greeting me and my guest upon arrival. We had to wait while the hostess bussed the table. Our server "Jeremy" approached the table but seemed to be in a rush to get back to the private party he was serving in the banquet room. We place our drink and appetizer order, and Jeremy disappeared. We received the appetizer but no drinks, Jeremy then reappears looks over at our table and continues on his way.. I had to ask someone else about our drinks in order to get drinks. Of course, Jeremy is off tending to his " more worthy guest" , I flag him down to inquire about placing our entrees order. I should have probably left after the appetizer and drinks, but figured things would get better... boy was I wrong. Jeremy takes the order and disappears again until we were midway through the meal with empty glasses and still didn't offer a refill until he was prompted by us. All in all Jeremy's poor hospitality robbed us of the dining experience!!! Food The lemon pepper wings were decent with the exception of two sickly pieces that were set aside. The spicy chicken egg rolls seemed to be old and refried, making them overly fried on the outside but a soggy undercooked mess in the middle. The meat loaf was the only dish well presented. All in all the experience was a bust. The location is staffed with a younger group whom prefer to indulge in the latest gossip within earshot of the dining experience. This place used to be really good and unfortunately is now a nicer ambiance version of Applebees. If you have to eat here, I would recommend sticking with the chicken strips and fries. Houlihan's was a great surprise Haven't eaten at a Houlihan's in probably 30 years. When we discovered this one we just had to check infor old times sake. What a great surprise. It is connected to the Embassy Suites hotel, which does give it a bit of a hotel feel. Still, it was worth it as a local to stop in. I always remember these places as being great eclectic food and drink, and it still is. My wife and I started with creative drinks (Pink Elephant and Grapefruit Jalapeño) which we quite good. My wife then had the excellent Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings and the French Onion Soup. I had the soup as well and for my main had the Korean Chicken. The flavor on the Korean Chicken was amazing. Just the right mix of spice and flavor. Different than anything I have had. We closed with the special Sticky Butter Cake offering. They hit it right on and St. Lois would be proud. If it had a bit less of a hotel vib, I would rate it 5, but instead I am giving a 4. read more

This restaurant was attached to our hotel and after a long day, eating here was a perfect decision. We all had filet mignons and it hit the spot. Some of the filets were a bit over cooked but it was ok. Dessert was better than expected. The butter cake with ice cream was perfectly warm and great for sharing. I've eaten here several times while staying at Embassy Suites. They have a really great Happy Hour with $5 select apps. They also have great lunch specials. Although I did not care for some of the food, it was all delivered hot and fresh. The stuffed mushrooms are amazing and they are vegetarian. The tuna app was also good and comes with a small salad. A staff member recommended the egg rolls, but I didn't feel they were that great and I probably wouldn't get them again. The tomato bisque is not that great but the cheese fritters that come with it make it worth it. I have also ordered the lunch scallops, so good! The meatloaf, potatoes, and onions were all good. The veggies were a little bland. Sometimes if there is a conference at the hotel, they will have a limited menu for lunch. read more

The Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings caught my eye and came with sriracha and sesame-ginger soy sauce. These were not my favorite because I prefer my dumplings crispy, but the sauce was terrific! I tried a bite of my friend's Meatloaf No. 9 and oh my goodness. I will go back just for this. At first I was skeptical of meatloaf being on the menu, but I guess a rule of thumb should be that if it's on the menu...it's bound to blow your mind. As you navigate the menu, take a peek at the martinis! "Shaken. Stirred. Whatevs." The Pink Elephant is defined on the menu as "a facetious name applied to hallucinations caused by excessive libations." Why is the drink called that? Probably because after a few more I'd be seeing the whole animal kingdom! The drink has premium French vodka infused with organic blood orange juice, mango and passion fruit, and a prosecco floater. It wasn't too sweet and you could only slightly taste how much alcohol was in it. read more

Embassy Suites Convention center in Denton I ate here for lunch during a giant scrapbook convention. The Restaurant handled it well. I am told that ordering online was simple and fast. I had the Kansas City burger, which includes sugared, bacon, fried onions sticks, Carnitas, barbecue sauce, and cheese. I chose a side salad instead of the fries, and the salad was very generous. The dressing was served on the side, which I appreciate. The salad came chopped, with a few tomatoes, some corn for some reason, and bacon. It was more than adequate, and came with an extra fork, which is also a nice touch. The burger was great, properly prepared, with delicious ingredients. I have never had Carnitas on a burger, but it was a nice moist touch. The service was efficient and attentive. As I said, they did a good job coping with the convention. I would return. I know this is a chain, but the food was good, the atmosphere warm and clean, and the service excellent. read more

Sent it back and instead of providing a new bowl, they put the existing in the microwave, which meant the sprinkled cheese on top just turned into a ball of cheese at the bottom. This restaurant is AMAZING. stayed at the embassy while on a work trip and decided to grab lunch and dinner here. Lunch was Dumplings and Korean chicken, dinner was egg rolls and a burger with a glass of wine. They even had my favorite, which is Chateau St. Michelle Riesling. It was a great meal and excellent service. Didn't catch my lunch servers name but I had Emmy for dinner and she killed it. If I'm ever back in Denton I will gladly be back! I've given them a few more tries, most recently 2 delivery orders in the past few months. While I've always found the staff friendly, if not disorganized (more detail on that in my previous review) I don't feel they ever worked out the kinks from when they were new. While I think the team work is lacking and the timing from the kitchen is subpar, this results in just okay meals more often than not. I think they typically get the entrees right, the sides and appetizers are either disappointing or just okay. In my opinion the soup and salad are usually standard and the mashed potatoes are quite good, but I've not cared for the other sides or appetizers due to execution. On our most recent order last week my steak was juicy and tasty if not a tad over. My mac n cheese was watery and my broccoli was barely cooked and tasted so strange. I mean it was actually cold and very hard when I say it was barely cooked. In fact, I've never had a good vegetable side from here, in 2 years they haven't figured out how to serve a warm side of veggies?? My husband thought his chicken tenders were fine and they were crispy but the fries were underwhelming. It was so nice that they included a bunch of different sauces... but they were all watery and tasted off, he didn't like any of them. Every experience here has some highs and some lows but they never really got into a consistent groove. To be fair, it's been almost a year since we've dined in (over take out or delivery) so take this with a grain of salt if you are staying in the hotel or dining in, they may have improved that experience more. Still, I expect more when you've been open well over 2 years. So they are okay, but not impressive. I went with a 3 instead of a 2 star rating because the reality is that the entrees are good and that should count for more than sides, apps and sauces. However, I believe the price point of this restaurant calls for more consistent execution and an overall good experience including quality, timing, service and value. So they've barely squeaked into 3 stars because this industry in general is facing a lot of challenges with COVID19. read more

This place is completely chaotic; from the hostess who acts like she can't look you in the face and who doesn't want to be of service to the lackluster food service. This place is connected to the Denton Embassy Sweets, a nice hotel, and also the convention center so it's hit or miss on wait times, food availability and service received. I've been meaning to try this place for a long time and we finally went yesterday. They have a nice patio and plenty of indoor space plus a bar inside. They must have been busy because there was no one there to greet us so it was a little unclear if you seat yourself or not but eventually someone came over and got us to a table. I ended up getting the fish & chips. The fish was good, it's hard to find good fish & chips in the Denton area. The fries were pretty standard fries. The chipotle slaw was really awesome, it had great color and fresh flavor and a bit of a kick. I would get this with pretty much any dish. We ended up trying their apple pie, it was alright but I wouldn't order it again. The service was good throughout the meal. I will try them again in the future but it will probably be a little while. read more
