Location 7/10 Located on the corner of a strip mall with lots of parking. It's just the south loop 288 is only businesses and not within walking distance of anything but big box stores. Vibe 6/10 Wood tables, chairs, and booths - it felt very dated with art from Big Lots on the walls. Everything was well maintained, though. The crab cakes were pretty good on their own. The poached egg could have used another 30 seconds. I added a side a bacon - 3 large thick slices just the right amount of crispy but noticeably salty even for bacon. The french toast was more like a fluffy bread with good flavor. The biscuits and gravy were not notable. Coffee came in its own pot which was nice but flavor was not great. Overall it's an average breakfast place food-wise. Service 9/10 Really friendly staff. Greeted and seated right away and our service came with water and a big bottle to refill. The server asked good questions and made suggestions and was overall very pleasant. As someone who has had a heart procedure I now have diet restriction s. The best cafe in Denton for large heart healthy selections of very tasty foods is "The Great Egg." Excellent service! Crafts of water and coffee so you can enjoy those drinks and never feel abandoned for another cup of coffee like can happen at other establishments. Adding lettuce leaves to any entree makes it healthy, right? Well, that is what I told myself while enjoying The Great Egg Omelette. I ended up finishing all of the greens before I took a bite of anything else. That is how much I enjoyed its dressing. With the exception of a baked potato topping, I rarely have a dollop of sour cream on my food, so it provided an interesting flavor contrast. Some other restaurants charge extra for an English muffin. I liked how most of the egg dishes is served with one at not additional charge. I just left disgusted with how I was treated. I walked in by myself to get something to eat while I waited for the shops to open. Three employees came from the kitchen to hand delivery orders to delivery drivers and I still was not acknowledged or asked if I needed help. After 3 minutes of waiting, a woman came from what I assume was probably the restroom to seat me in an empty meeting room that was enclosed with just a open door out, looking out over the rest of the restaurant. We walked by eight empty tables and booths to go into a meeting room where I was seated by myself. Met with a large group in their banquet room on a Saturday morning. So went in with the understanding that it would probably be slow. I was pleasantly surprised at the stellar level of service. We had about 15 in our group and one waitress handled everything like a champ. She got our drink orders and delivered them quickly. Then, she turned around and got all our individual meal orders. Unfortunately, they moved on to create new venues. The current proprietors are extremely pleasant. However the quality of the food has not been maintained. We stopped in for a quick breakfast when we were in Denton and had a wonderful experience. The service was fantastic!! I failed to get our servers name, but she was young and had her hair dyed blue. These are probably the best waffles in Denton. The service is always decent, but never amazing. The coffee is good, the bacon and breakfast potatoes are always a hit. We always get waffles when we come, so I'm not even sure what else to recommend. Their menu is pretty limited, and it really is very egg-centric for breakfast. I am always impressed by the food, but I'm never impressed by the hostess, servers, or timing. They do offer a military discount. read more

They brought us rotten fruit. There were gnats all over us, and the bacon was undercooked to the point of being unsafe to eat. The waitress was clearly overwhelmed with too many tables; I blame management. My wife and I each had the crab cake Benedict. The crab cake was real crab but it tasted old. When we first walked in we stood around for 15 minutes while the hostess and an old woman (presumably the manager) looked at each other and couldn't figure out how to seat us. It was very odd. The food is cheaply priced, and thus attracts a consistent crowd of elderly folks whose taste buds don't work anymore and don't care what the food tastes like or if it's fresh. read more

I'll start by saying that I've been coming here for years, and have only encountered minor things not even worth noting; but I went there this morning to treat myself to a birthday breakfast and it was a huge disappointment. Upon arrival, they were not busy. There were two other tables with customers in the section I was in, one of them was done with everything, they were just a group of people hanging out for company, the other must have gotten there a little bit before me. The server came over fairly quickly, I ordered my fave drink, and was trying to ask him to surprise me with one of three options, he immediately just starts throwing the names of different plates and I said no, I'm vegetarian, I want you to surprise me between (with my finger pointed to a specific plate on the menu and he just starts blurting out more plates left and right- I had to tell him to stop- that I have my own options if he'd let me finish speaking. So I point to the three and he tells me which one. No surprise. Ok. I'm not 5, not the end of the world. So now I wait... 10 min goes by, 2 guys are seated across the room. I'm thinking for a basic waffle, and a slow restaurant, 10 min was taking a little time, but assured myself that it would be out in a moment... nope. 20 MORE minutes go by and finally, my waffle comes out, with eggs and potatoes as ordered. All COLD. Not warm, not room temp, literally cold to the touch. Each thing on there. I looked around for the server to ask him to put it in a microwave or something but never saw him again until he dropped off the check (my back was to the room). The place had gotten pretty busy in the last 10 min or so, and I figured I'm not going to catch him, so I just ate my cold food with complete disappointment. Oh, the 2 guys who came in 10 min after me had their food within a moment of me because as soon as I started looking around for the server as soon as I felt the food was cold, they were already eating. There was never a check in; just a check drop off. And when paying, the owner didn't even ask how things were. I'll still go back there because this was the first bad experience out of many visits, but legit- I've had their food delivered to me 15 min away that arrived much hotter than this was in house. It makes me wonder how long it sat waiting to be served since it took 30 min for my food to come out and when it did it was cold. read more

I ordered UberEats from here and was thoroughly impressed because the food was super hot and fresh still! I even unexpectedly burned my mouth on the coffee a bit because it was so unexpected. I had been here a couple of times before the pandemic, and I can honestly say the food is just as good getting takeout as in person. They packed everything where nothing was soggy and the hollandaise sauce was in a separate container to keep it from impacting the rest of the food. It was my first time ordering the veggie benedict and it was an amazing amount of food with plenty of artichokes, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, and asparagus on top of a toasted english muffin. My husband and I tried this place for breakfast for the first time 2 days ago. We were not disappointed at all, we were seated right away, and Chloe our waitress greeted us in no time. She had great recommendations, and when the food was delivered, it was hot and so delicious!! Chloe was very attentive to us, checking on us with a smile, and even before we left, she brought us iced tea to go in plastic cups without even asking for it. She was so wonderful!! The ambiance was very relaxing, not loud at all, I could actually talk to my husband without struggling to hear him because of loud noises. My first experience was 2 stars, but today was 4 stars, so I am splitting the difference between the two visits. To be honest, it's probably closer to 3 1/2. It was not my idea to come here the first time. As someone with a very specific egg white allergy, I tend to avoid places with Egg in the name because it can be harder to substitute. The allergy is a pain to explain and I learned a long time ago that explaining it and requesting specific cooks might be putting my health into a teenagers hands. That being said, I did come along the first time. The second time I was more willing because I wanted to get a better feel for them before writing my review. Our first visit was on July 4th, just before 9am, and it was packed. We were quoted 15 minutes for a wait, but weren't seated until 44 minutes after my check in. There was no urgency in the staff as tables sat unbussed and unused. I received dirty silverware and had to go retrieve more, the second pair had a dirty knife. I was appalled that the manager had one person working the front (seating people and cashing them out) with the crowd. I felt the manager should have been helping out front, or assigned a seasoned team member to help. Due to my allergy, I decided to go with the oatmeal pancake with bacon and fresh fruit. My husband got a classic breakfast with a waffle as the side. Both the pancake and the waffle were EXTREMELY bland, ugh! The bacon was okay, but the fresh fruit was very refreshing and tasty. My husband seemed to enjoy his eggs. I was extremely disappointed, but I didn't post a review because I have a rule about judging a place by their holiday service. I was suspicious though, especially with the lack of urgency from the entire staff and the dirty silverware. I also felt that I overpaid considering the quality and portion. We came back today, a Sunday at 8:30am. There was no wait, we were immediately seated! The first thing I noticed was that there were no prices on the beverages, weird! After my last experience with the pancake and waffle, I decided to go with the lunch side of the menu. I do appreciate a place that offers their entire menu for all their operating hours. We had to wait a while on our server, Brian. He told me that the menu was a revision and he wasn't sure why it didn't have the prices on drinks. He did offer to check, but I just went with a sweet tea. A while later he came by with our drinks and gave me an update on the prices, which was sweet. I noticed that Brian was kept busy with tables so it would be a lengthy amount of time between visits. However, Brian was extremely accommodating and really on the ball. He also had very good suggestions. My husband ordered a Colorado scrambler that had ham in it and he ordered it with bacon, sausage and an English muffin. He really enjoyed the seasoning of this meal and it was very filling. The $9.29 price tag seemed fairly reasonable. I ordered their lunch combo for $7.99 which gives you a choice of 4 half sandwiches, 3 salads and a soup of the day. I got the Arizona Turkey which came on grilled sourdough and had bacon, mayo, tomato and avocado. The soup of the day was the Black Eyed Pea that Brian said was very similar to their tortilla soup and assured me that I would like it. The sandwich was pretty good, I liked the flavor. The last third completely fell apart because the avocado and tomato made it too mushy to stay together, but it was still good. My main note would be the bacon was inconsistent, some of it was really hard and some of it was really fatty. The soup was absolutely fantastic! I ate every single bit of it and could have gotten more, so delicious! I would consider ordering a bowl of that soup for an entrée. If the Black Eyed Pea soup is available when you go, get it! If you are the type to need substitutions, make sure you talk clearly to the staff about it and find out how things are prepared. I wanted plain potatoes with my pancake on my first visit because I didn't think ranch potatoes would be a good compliment to an oatmeal pancake. They make their batch with the ranch already mixed in at the beginning of the day, so you can't really get it with no ranch. Today I heard a similar request about removing jalapenos at a nearby table and heard a similar explanation. So if you have allergies or just hate a particular food, make sure you are asking for details and have a backup item to order. Though this place isn't in my top ten or anything, I'm pleased I got a chance to see them on a regular day and to fix my initial impression of them. Service is still a bit slow, but the food was much more satisfying. I will most likely return to try them again. read more

We went there for breakfast around 10 a.m. We walked in with our masks on and were pleasantly surprised to see all the staff were wearing masks as well. But as we entered the restaurant to be seated, though it was half full, there was only one other family wearing masks. It was uncomfortable enough to enter the dining area where there was a family of at least 12, occupying two tables, and none of them were wearing masks. After, our server, Jaret (?) (whom, by the way, was very attentive and friendly), took our order, the hostess escorted a family of five in the booth beside us, which had no barrier between the booths. None of them were wearing masks. It was unnerving having the family linger about as they try to decide where each were going to sit. Disgusted by the lack of social distancing, and lack of concern for the safety of the staff and the other customers, we asked to have our meal to go. Only to our dismay upon our return home ~ only to find the toast and bacon burnt and the eggs over done. I had also asked for a substitute of tomatoes instead of potatoes ~ well you can image my frustration when I found potatoes. read more

The whole wheat pancake is full of flavor and lots of fiber and I Mean a lot! When entering we were greeted and asked how many was the party and the name. The girl at the front went to the hostess and repeated our name and party number, though she never put our name down. We waited for thirty minutes and realized parties just arriving were getting seated before us. We checked up on our status and it seemed we were never put down on the list. The hostesses never made accommodations and let us wait like we just came in. Fortunately it was only a 7 minute wait by then. Me and wife have eaten at Egg & I for several years while in Colorado and New Mexico, so finding this one while driving through was pleasant surprise. We stopped in and had about 20 minute wait but well worth it. There is seating inside and outside for those waiting. Once seated we were promptly greeted and we always order the same thing, Colorado Jack Scramble with Pork Green Chile, we love the pork green Chile, highly recommend this breakfast dish, comes with 3 slices of bacon, muffin and seasoned homemade potatoes; very fulfilling. read more
