On the historic Denton Courthouse Square is a family owned restaurant that everyone who visits Denton should try at least once. Cartwrights has some of the best tasting bread I love eaten (besides my ex mother-in-laws home made bread.) I had the grilled sandwich with some homemade ranch dressing and I enjoyed every bite. The waitress was attentive and responsive to me and my mom while we were there. She even exceeded our expectation when she came over with a to-go container for my mom, who only ate half of her sandwich. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's well run, well staffed, and gives you a feeling of nostalgia in the old building with the brick walls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My family of four came in an hour before closing on a Saturday during the October festivities. There was no wait and we received fast service, which was a major plus compared to other establishments around the square during the same time. While I enjoyed my food and so did my relatives -- who ordered burgers and one ordered the tortilla soup -- [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do wish the restaurant was cleaner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was hesitant eating here when I first walked in due to the floors being covered in chunks of food, napkins and crayons.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, I knew with the area being so busy, they probably just hadn't had the opportunity to sweep much.

I have been coming to Cartwright's for several years. This is one of those places I would have sworn I had already reviewed this place, but I guess not... The service here is always great! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a country ranch house type place, and the help seems to fit right into that motif, just good ol' country people serving up good old home cooking![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On this visit I ordered the Linda Lou Sandwich. It is a grilled or fried chicken breast with ranch dressing, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. It is delicious! Pro Tip: Come hungry cause this place serves up some heaping helpings!

Their chicken fried chicken and mashed taters are really good. It is definitely worth a visit, you won't be disappointed. Service has always been fine and [[HIGHLIGHT]]it's a nice warm environment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely come try the chicken fried!!

Here's a review based on your experience: Homey Vibes and Delicious Comfort Food in Dallas I recently visited this cozy spot in Dallas on a Sunday morning with a group of friends, and while we did have to wait a bit, the line moved faster than expected. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant gives off a homey, welcoming vibe, with tables set close together, making it feel lively and bustling.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]One unique touch is that, as you make your way to the back, you walk right past the kitchen and can watch the chefs in action--a cool detail, though it does make you hope they're keeping everything spotless since it's all out in the open![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once we were seated, our server greeted us promptly, and we found ourselves faced with a large menu, which made choosing a little tough. I ended up going with the fried catfish, accompanied by mac & cheese and fried okra. It seemed like a popular choice, and I quickly saw why--the catfish was perfectly seasoned and fried to a beautiful crisp. The tartar sauce and hot sauce they provided for dipping added just the right kick. The mac & cheese was good, though not standout, and the fried okra, while decent, could use a bit more flavor. Overall, our entire group was happy with the experience. We finished every bite, which speaks volumes! I only wish I'd taken pictures of the food because the presentation was lovely, but I did capture the empty plates at the end--a testament to how much we enjoyed it. I'd love to come back and explore more of the menu.

Our server was a very sweet and helpful young lady. She gave us suggestions, which we took. Everything was delicious and my husband said it was the best burger he had ever eaten! It had jalapeños and cream cheese. I had the meatloaf, macaroni and cheese and fried okra. Everything was so good. We will be coming back soon!

Hands down, best comfort food I've ever had. Everything was so good! I cannot wait to share this place with my family and friends. It's a little out-of-the-way but so worth it. Perfect excuse for a road trip. I had the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. My daughter had the mac & cheese burger with sweet potato waffle fries. Everything was delicious including the ice tea with crushed ice. Perfect.

Great place for a burger and I expect from the looks of other orders all the food is good!!! Open dining and sit where you want makes it easy to find a table that fits your needs and party side. Fun atmosphere with many paintings and local items on the mural. As a first timer I got the full menu tour with highlights and favorites... our server Easter gave excellent recommendations (which I took)! My go to burger is a mushroom & swiss... it was awesome (the bun was incredibly soft and fresh)!

Located in the heart of Denton, Cartwrights is a down home neighborhood establishment. Immediately entering you can feel the down home vibe, the unique artwork canvassing the walls let's you know your at home. As a first timer, I spent time covering the expansive menu before conversing with the staff over favorites, ultimately selecting "Wyatt Earp" essentially the classic breakfast. The meal itself was a nice portion! The pancakes were some of the fluffiest and crisp round the edges, I've ever had. My bacon was thick cut and the fruit was fresh. Cartwright's on atmosphere alone should always be breakfast option in the Denton area, add in the heavy portions and you've got yourself the go to diner/family spot!

Located on the square, I remember visiting this place in the 2012 time frame or so. The Square has changed quite a bit and quite frankly is alive and extremely busy, especially on this Labor Day visit. It has the feel of a small town square diner still, just bulging with customers inside and waiting outside for their table. Parking can be a bear in this area so beware. Very simple setting of tables and chairs. I thought their using a green memo pad to be a little outdated but falls under the quaint category. However, somehow our name was skipped over and when my wife noticed that several parties were seated before us she pointed out name out to the hostess and we were of course sat down next. Added about 20 minutes to our wait time which would only have been about 12-15 prior to that oversight. We got there right before noon so again understanding it's a busy time of day and a holiday on top of that. Waitress was very nice if not easily distracted. She handed us our menus, went to say hi to another couple that sat down behind us, then volunteered to take a family of 12s picture. We are very understanding and it's a good holiday to spend with family. However, then she went to the other couples table and took their order. Then went to wipe down the table of the family that left and then finally came back to take our order nearly 15 minutes later. I think any reasonable person would consider that annoying at best and also now we are nearly 30-40 minutes behind unnecessarily. My daughter had wanted a chicken fried steak which started our trek here in the first place, so getting back on track the menu is what you might expect of a town square restaurant that's serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She did get her wish and thoroughly enjoyed it; while at $14.99 she felt it was worth every penny. I was thankfully given a bite and agreed with her. Gravy and mash potatoes just added and it was just home-cooking style lunch that requires a good nap afterwards. I decided to detour of my intention of joining her with a CFS of my own and instead went with the catfish. $11.99 and the breading was really great. As a side note, you can order all u can eat catfish for just another $3 after 4 o'clock. The waitress did offer to make an exception for me since it was only about 1:30 but I declined. My wife ordered the roast beef sandwich. She has vainly been in search of a good roast beef that she gets in the New Orleans area where she's from. This isn't it but I thought it did stand on it's own two legs and for $11.99 not a bad value. I think the difference is the gravy on this one which is more texas style brown gravy rather than a debris gravy.... My youngest got the bacon cheeseburger. It was pretty good and also $11.99. I thought the fries were so-so on it. Each of the entrees comes with two sides and so it's quite reasonably priced. The food held it's own, but the service, the seating time, and by the way we did wait another 20 minutes for the food to come out do not bode well if you are looking for a place to get in and out quick. I don't rank many places 3 stars but then say it's ok to go there but this one is a rare exception. Food for the most part nails it, though the tartar sauce is a little too much onions in it. But everything here is homemade and I can appreciate that. But in my opinion, the place is not worth a two-hour lunch time frame.

I wasn't a fan of the sauce, the sweetness was a clash for me. The chips were also way too salty. The house salad $14 was an XL salad for sure! Everything was so good and fresh. They kindly brought me extra cheese and grilled jalapeños. The ranch was just right too! Downside: my patty was over-seasoned and overcooked. My partner purchased their most basic burger, the Waylon $12, the fries are sold separately. This burger was small, and once again, the patty itself was a disappointment. Texas sun cocktail was refreshing but just a simple pineapple and vodka mix.

The staff was incredibly welcoming, attentive, and helpful, which is something that seems harder and harder to find these days. They have TVs throughout the restaurant, making it a great place to catch a game, and we especially enjoyed watching the World Cup there. Store-bought mixers are usually either too sweet or too sour. However, if it is store-bought, I'm impressed! This was not a sweet margarita. The chicken parm was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with rich, flavorful sauce and melty cheese that didn't overpower the dish. The pesto added a fresh, herby richness that tied everything together beautifully. The birria crunch wrap was packed with bold, slow-cooked flavor, and the crispy tortilla gave way to tender meat and creamy, cheesy goodness. It somehow managed to be comforting and exciting at the same time. The smash burger had that perfect crispy edge with a juicy center, and the potatoes were golden, crispy, and seasoned so well that they disappeared almost as fast as the burger. Even the Caesar salad wasn't an afterthought. It was fresh, crisp, perfectly dressed, and exactly what you want alongside a rich meal. You can tell there's real care behind the food. The coffee is consistently great, the staff is kind and welcoming, and the whole place has this relaxed charm that makes you want to linger a little longer. It's a small, cozy bistro, so it's always best to reserve ahead of time, especially on weekends. Totally worth planning for. Every visit feels like a treat. Highly recommend.

He had come here several times with a couple of his friends from college and said I needed to give it a try. I ordered biscuits and gravy and it's not like your typical biscuits and gravy. It just has way more flavor than you would expect. I sampled a few other various items off the menu and everything was outstanding. The staff is very nice and courteous and it's just a cozy little place to go and get some food. It's also very clean inside and it's one of these businesses that if you're not paying attention, you'll just drive right past. It's kind of hidden out of the way, but it is definitely worth going. It's not a huge restaurant and I didn't have any trouble finding parking. It also wasn't very busy at the time that we went so I would imagine it will get busy with the breakfast or lunch rush but both times that I've been it's been really nice. Highly highly highly recommend visiting this at least once and trying it
