I've been to this location a few times, and I've always ordered carry-out. I can think of one time I had ordered a sandwich ahead, and I came 15 minutes late, and it still wasn't prepared. I had to wait an extra 10 minutes in the store. Thankfully, that was a one-off experience. Other than the mobile ordered has been fantastic and very timely! They have an honor system process where you just grab your meal in a bag from a shelf. Your meal has a sticker receipt with your name on it. I usually order the Spicy Turkey Melt, which consists of avocado, bacon, chipotle ranch, pepper jack cheese, roasted turkey spring mix lettuce, and tomato on a baguette. I also get a side order of chips, sweet tea, and lemonade for the drink. The sandwich is very consistent in flavor. It's not spicy at all to me, but the blend of ingredients combines in a very scrumptious way. The tea they give you is plentiful in size and is very good in taste. If you're a sweet lover you won't be disappointed! Eventually, I'll try the other sandwiches. They have so many, but the Spicy Turkey Melt has been the go-to for me. I LOVE McAlister's Deli. They have such a wide variety of options to choose from, and everything I've eaten at McAlister's has been delicious. My go-to choice is their huge Veggie Spud, it's very filling. This was my first visit at this Denton location. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. The cashier smiled, was very friendly, and even reminded me to scan my rewards card for points. My food was ready in less than 10 minutes. Parents don't get your kids the pizza because it was horrible. My kid refused to eat it luckily it came with some potato chips to munch on. I'm so glad that delis exist. When I'm out and I don't want a burger and fries McAlister's comes through with their excellent salads, soups and their famous tea. And McAlister's does chili the way I prefer the most, no beans. Just seasoned, flavorful beef. If you enjoy fruit in your salad the Pecanberry salad with the raspberry vinaigrette is fantastic. This is a five star salad in my opinion. The broccoli cheddar soup at this location was a thinner consistency than I typically receive so I'm not sure if that's specific to this location or if they changed the recipe. It was a three star soup because cream based soups should live up to the expectation. The salads here are huge and delicious so depending on the size of your appetite the Choose 2 option is excellent. For my daughter's Choose 2 she selected the Harvest sandwich and the baked potato. My daughter was pleased that this sandwich comes on a croissant. The menu here is not filled with a bunch of everything fried which is another reason I downloaded their app to take advantage of the offers always popping up because of course I'm a loyal customer. read more

The food quality is fine, the prices are fine, the staff is friendly enough...... but they really need help when it comes to doing online/mobile orders. Maybe the process of communication between the front counter and the kitchen needs to be looked at. I order from the mobile app about once a week to this location. Each time I order I allow for more than enough time to prepare the order before I show up. It is never ready! I'm talking 40+ mins to do half a sandwich and some soup. Why order ahead online if it's not going to start being prepared until I walk in the door? Additionally, food gets stolen here. When they have an online order ready to go, it just gets put out on a shelf where anyone can come in and grab it. I have showed up to get my food only to be told "someone must have taken it, we'll have to remake it" (which I didn't have time to wait for). I've been a fan of McAlister's for several years, going back to when we lived in Plano to now in our current home. Normally, the service is efficient and accurate. I post today about a visit that left much to be desired. Shortly after 8pm on Jul 30th, I visited the Loop 288 location. Mine to, the order was to go as my wife was ordering from a different genre/establishment. Upon placing my order, which was just a bowl of chili, I grabbed a quick seat anticipating a short wait of perhaps five minutes. Little did I know ... After about 15 minutes, a team member approached me asking if I needed help, I advised him I was waiting on my order, a bowl of chili. He said he'd check on it, but did not come back, even though I saw him walking back to the kitchen and back to the counter area. Approximately five minutes later, another team member came out, briefly apologized, and said they were prepping the chili, which to me meant getting it ready. She offered a cookie, but did not go into detail as to anticipated wait time, etc. Several minutes later, someone else approached me saying it still wasn't ready as they were THAWING IT OUT. I inquired about the expected wait time to which she stated she didn't know. That left a sour taste in my mouth resulting in me requesting and receiving a refund just shy of 30 minutes after placing the order. My main concern is the apparent lack of communication between the kitchen and the front of the house. The staff taking orders should be aware of circumstances in the back which would lead to lengthy delays for customers so that alternate selections may be made. The one time, the only time, I forgot to add a tip to my online order... that's when things went wrong. I usually add 20%, a lot - yeah. I tip well. Not sure why, as most service isn't worth the high tip. I accidentally hit the zero and forgot to fix when I got distracted. I did notice when I saw the email and just figured I could hand over a cash tip. Then things got super fun! Curbside pickup. Checked in. Three other cars came and went. 15 minutes went by. My husband had to yell out to the guy bringing an order to another car to ask if he had an order for us. The look on the guys face indicated he definitely knew we were waiting. He said, "Yeah it's ready." And went to get it. The ice in the drink had started to melt. They deliberately left our order waiting. Rude, rude. One. Tipping is out of control in this country. Two. There's a good chance much of the tip doesn't make it to the employees. Three. Attempting to punish someone for not tipping, at a deli... getting two sandwiches and tea... is so unprofessional. Four. The food was thrown together carelessly and was not up to usual standards. Maybe I expect too much when I pay over $30 for sandwiches. Silly me. No point going back to this location. As a chain, I like McAlister's a lot! I appreciate that they offer lighter options at reasonable prices. My go to location is the one in Highland Village and that's really the only location I have to compare this to. In a nutshell, our visit to the Denton location can be summed up as: good customer service, okay food and dirty location. We came by last weekend and were there Sunday from around 5 to 6pm. When we arrived it was close to empty and we saw an employee sweeping. The counter was on the opposite side of the entrance we chose and as I approached I saw an increase of trash on the floor. The woman who helped us at the counter was very friendly and thorough. The customer service here beats out the Highland Village location in my opinion. I found them very helpful and thorough instead of giving me a dead stare. After paying, the condiment station closest to the order counter is of course where I gravitated to so I could get a lid for my tea, it was very sticky and dirty. This is my personal pet peeve, I hate sticky surfaces, they track everywhere. While ordering, a few more parties came in and after that I didn't see anyone else cleaning. No one went out to finish sweeping the floor and no one wiped down either of the condiment stations. Luckily the one we were seated by was fully stocked and fairly clean. I know it's more fun to chat then clean when the rush ends, but it looked pretty bad and I was really surprised that nobody bothered with it for such a long period of time. Our food came quickly, but I have to go off memory for the cost because I wasn't given a receipt with my change and there was no receipt on my tray like at the other location. I ordered a choose two for $7.49 and I'm pretty sure my husbands King Club was $7.99. Not sure on the cost for the drinks, but it must have been on the higher side because the total was just over $22 (maybe the King Club was more expensive). The drinks are quite large though and I doubt you will need a refill while eating. I recommend their sweet tea, it's pretty good- they say it's famous! :) That King Club is HUGE! You're going to need to unhinge your jaw for this one! There literally IS twice the meat you are expecting so they delivered on the menu's promise there. The only thing my husband didn't care for was the sandwich had unripe, green tomato slices. I went with the chicken salad, which had already fallen apart before I picked it up. The croissant had the perfect toast on it. Though tangier than I expected, the chicken salad was good. I also had a green, unripe tomato, boo! The lettuce was good and fresh though. Due to the flavor profile, I would try a turkey sandwich next time. I always get the broccoli cheddar soup and this did not disappoint on taste. The portion seemed smaller to me than I normally get. I actually finished my meal, which never happens at a McAlisters, so I'm pretty sure I got a significantly smaller portion of soup than the Highland Village location usually gives me. I wasn't upset about this because for all I know the other location is the one improperly allocating the serving, who knows. Since this is the only location in Denton, I certainly can't discourage you from coming. The menu is what matters, and it's a good option for a lighter lunch. However, despite the service being much better here, I prefer the Highland Village location for better execution on the food and overall cleanliness. read more

I don't recommend ordering ahead since I can usually order and get my food faster than people that have ordered ahead and wait at the pick up station. This place was pretty solid with the food but not the service. Me and my friends went there and ordered a few different dishes. The drinks were also quite good. I had the lemonade which was nice and my friends had iced tea which they really enjoyed. Our sandwiches overall were good but the service wasn't spectacular. We had to wait about 15 minutes after we were told our food would be ready for us to actually get it. While the food was fresh we didn't appreciate having to wait. Additionally, they neglected to give us the cookies we ordered, which were a lost cause since we didn't want to drive back all the way there after getting back to where we were staying to eat. They would just gather the dishes up. Now, they not only gather up the dishes, but put the number holder, which is on all tables, flat down to mark a table that needs to be wiped down. I go to this McAlister's occasionally but it hasn't always been my first pick for a soup & sandwich place. However, the last few visits have been very good and I now consider this location my favorite place for a light lunch. By the way, the staff here is extremely nice and helpful. This location is great because it is never very crowded, unlike the other Popular Bread places in Denton. You can have a comfortable lunch and a comfortable conversation here without feeling encroached upon by the hordes. They have a large dining area with a lot of tables. The menu seems to have been slightly redesigned recently but most of the items I remember are still listed. I had the garden salad with grilled chicken and jalepenos added. It was very good and the portion was large. I also had a ham "deli sandwich" that came with spicy mustard, lettuce, and tomatoes. The ham was very flavorful, thinly sliced, and slightly grilled. The bread was a 6" multigrain roll. Very good! My wife had a turkey cob with gorgonzola and a cup of butternut squash soup. The sandwich was good and the soup was fantastic with a nice autumn flavor profile. This might be the best soup we've ever had at a restaurant. The side of steamed veggies was very good and fresh. Three suggestions that could make this place the ultimate: 1) Self-serve fountain drinks. The staff is great about going around and asking if anyone needs a refill but I would still prefer self-serve. 2) Less butter on the steamed veggies. I could request less butter during ordering so this is not a huge deal. 3) Kiosk ordering stations. Overall, a great place for lunch! read more

I guess fool me twice, shame on me. And yet I came back, so I'm gonna post a review, because this makes no sense. I get my to-go order, get home, and I only have half a sandwich. How? How do you forget half of a sandwich? Do your cooks only make half a sandwich at a time, and they forgot to make the second half of mine? It's more efficient to make a whole sandwich and cut it in half - you know that, right? I'd include a picture, but you can't really take a picture of something that isn't there. For years, I'd get McAlister's about once a week, but since I've been wholly ignored at the other location and now somehow only gotten half a sandwich, it kinda makes me wonder if there's something intentional and directed going on here. I know what you are thinking, it's McAlister's, how special can it be? I have been in many times and the service is something far beyond anything you can imagine. I went in yesterday to have lunch with my girlfriend, and even though they were obviously busy they kept a huge smile on their face and were more polite than you could ever expect. The GM was personally walking around to make sure everyone was taken care of, and within 10 seconds of a patron walking away they had someone making sure the area was clean and ready for the next guest. I called and the employee that answered the phone didnt seem to like it was a big deal "let me talk to my manager" came back to say that my refund would have to come through the third party like it was their fault there was hair in my food.
