I moved out of Houston, but I always think back to the food and owners here! For much of 2021, this place was my go-to spot for comfy Chinese food without having to drive all the way to Chinatown. Their garlic eggplant and pork dish and the house fried rice were my favorite things to order, and the portion size allowed me to make many meals out of the food. I'm a fan of this place! I have stopped in with my family for lunch and we were not disappointed. We had their tofu dish, shrimp with scrambled eggs, and sesame chicken. I want to say the tofu dish needs more flavor, maybe it had some spice it would taste a bit better. It was kind of plain, but not bad. All of these dishes were ordered as a lunch portion and it was way more than we could eat. I believe one dish could be split among two people. One thing I want to try is their lobster. I would prefer ribs but I understand why they use pork chop. It's on $6.95 lunch menu so make sense. I looked at the regular menu. The price is on the higher end. Whenever I'm up north, it's hard to find a place that serves lobsters Asian style like stir fried in butter and scallions.. well finally! They just recently opened for a few months and it didn't disappoint! The lobsters were yummy and flavorful. Not overly salty or saucy and the meat weren't over cooked either. The crab & asparagus soups were a bit bland but nothing chili oil couldn't fix. The sizzling beef was my least favorite since it was heavily sauced and the onions/peppers weren't fully cooked through. Food was good but I think it can be better! Hopefully they work out the kinks and when I do come back to visit, it'll be amazeballs! Btw, it gets really busy for lunch so plan accordingly! I have been here twice and the food is ok. We came here for dinner with my wife and family. Family style was how we ate and just ordered what we thought sounded good. We ordered the fish and asparagus soup, baby beef ribs with black pepper sauce, spicy salt baby beef ribs, flat rice noodle with beef and Chinese broccoli, lobster, and house fried rice. First the same was like any other soup you would have at a Chinese restaurant so that was that. Baby beef ribs with black pepper sauce- sounded good and then it looked good, but didn't taste as good. Flavor was kinda of weird. To me it was too much of a subtle pepper taste. Like cooked peppercorn taste. Some of my family thought it tasted like flour. Then the meat was so CHEWY! You couldn't bite a piece off, you would have to eat the whole meat on the bone. And there seem to be an even amount of beef and eggplant. I figure more beef than eggplant. Spicy salt ribs- these tasted pretty decent. I can take a little more salt than others but my wife and parents thought it was but too salty. Flat rice noodle- I enjoyed this dish probably the most out of them all. The beef here wasn't chewy, strange. I just added some Sriracha and I was good. Fried rice- meh I can't say much cause I ate a few bites and had enough. Which is strange for a guy like me. Lobster- this was good. Flavor was there, it's just really tricky getting to the meat, but that's how lobster can be I guess. The staff is friendly and nice. Food could be better. Upon walking in, the restaurant is brighter inside than I expected. The chairs are very comfortable and nice and the tables are covered with plastic tablecloths just like in bellaire. The service is great. Very friendly and attentive. The scrambled eggs with prawns was my favorite dish as the eggs were wonderfully fluffy and flavorful with large prawns and green onions all through it. It might be a bit salty to some but eaten with the rice it's perfectly fantastic. We also ordered the dried rice noodle with beef and Chinese broccoli. The serving was huge. Fantastically tender beef and veggies (Chinese broccoli, carrots and mushrooms) all atop pan fried rice noodles in a brown sauce. Everything was delicious and priced well. Finally. Authentic, good, Chinese food not too far from home. Everything from Peking duck to salt and pepper lobster on the menu. Normally, I would drive to Chinatown for something like this, but so glad it's down the street from me. The place is kind of small, but surprisingly there wasn't a line. I guess because it's fairly new! I expect that to ramp up. The service was on point and the manager was super friendly. Ordered cold shrimp egg rolls. Wrap was small and flimsy. Had shredded lettuce in it with a tiny thin piece of a small shrimp. Almost like they were wilted. Ordered hot and sour soup. Hardly no flavor. Ordered combination lo mein and it was made out of little spaghetti noodles which was bland. Ordered shrimp with mixed veggies which was actually decent. My group of three tried this restaurant for the first time. We had the Stir-Fry Spicy Chicken, Prawns with Walnuts in Coconut Sauce (or equivalent), and the Mixed Seafood Clay Pot with XO Sauce (with an appetizer of crab puffs). Five. Freaking. Stars. The biggest surprise was the stir-fry spicy chicken. It's not your regular, throw-some-stuff-in-a-wok-and-cook-it-to-death restaurant stir fry. The chicken is *very* lightly breaded and slightly pan-fried for a most unexpected crunch, and the spices and vegetables included in the fry provide an extra depth of flavors to the dish. Prawns with Walnuts in Coconut Sauce were beautifully presented on the plate, on a bed of long shreds of lettuce and framed with broccoli at the corners. Each prawn was topped with a candied walnut; my friend took a picture, but she's on a different account. Mixed Seafood Clay Pot was tasty, though I probably wouldn't have ordered it if I'd known how much squid and tofu would be in it. My family and I have been coming here for a few years now and we are always very pleased here. Our favorites are the salted fish and chicken fried rice, chicken with string beans, fried chicken wings, & the crispy salt and pepper chicken. I came here with a friend, and we didn't try a lot on the menu, but she really liked the General Tso's chicken that she ordered, but I wasn't so impressed with the seafood flat rice noodle that I ordered. Really awesome to have "Bellaire" quality eats in the North Side! My parents use to go to Bellaire for Asian cuisine every weekend but with Hou Wei near by, they can do their weekend dinners near home and the service is way better than any Bellaire restaurant. The food is a 5/5 for me. Definitely would recommend the seafood flat noodles and salted pork ribs! The only set back from Bellaire restaurants compared to Hou Wei - is that it gets difficult to know what you're ordering if you're use to menus that are similar to the ones down south. The menu is only in English and there has been a few times we've ordered the wrong dishes due to misunderstanding the menu. read more

First time trying this place out. It was surprisingly really good. The service was amazing and extremely attentive. Our waiter was Orlando so ask for him if you go. I got the Prawn and Scrambled Eggs. A bit unusual but never the less very tasty. The serving size was quite large but I'm not complaining since I got to enjoy it two days in a row. I might have been overzealous in my take out order XD Just be aware the portions here are HUGE, all family style and it's all delicious. We had the roasted duck which is served the traditional way roasted chopped with the steamed buns the rest was prepped with vermicelli and cabbage to have with broth. Absolutely worth the price. We also ordered a general tso with fried rice--not really my thing, but this was super light not greasy with a delicious candied flavoring that wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. Finally the crab fish maw soup, which had plenty of crab meat, a nice hearty texture, with a subtle smokey flavor (although the waitress wasn't entirely certain what else was in there we suspect pork intestine--and it tastes great). Pros: I placed this as a pick up without calling in advanced service was extremely fast and friendly. Prices seem high, but the portions you get are on point we'll have leftovers for days!
