I stumbled upon this restaurant while browsing through DoorDash options. I was working from the Spring office and was craving Chinese. The place I liked before is now a pho restaurant. I asked my PT employee/friend if she brought her lunch, and she said yes, but she didn't want to eat it. Winning! Haha. She said she's been to this place in person. The first thing she said was that it was clean. I looked it up on Yelp just to be sure and was sold. It took me a while to decide. I also love vegetable egg foo young and was deciding between sweet and sour chicken, general tso, or orange chicken with fried rice, of course. I went with the sweet and sour chicken. My friend went with the shrimp fried rice since she's pescatarian. She liked her meal. Hers was packed in a plastic takeout container. Mine was ironically packaged in a styrofoam container. I expected it to be all reusable plastic containers. The sweet and sour sauce was in a takeout container and a small single use one. It was weird considering there was plenty of sauce and didn't need the random small one. I loved that the serving was plentiful for the chicken and fried rice. I made 4 small meals out of it. The chicken could be a little more meatier and have a lighter, crispy batter coating. The fried rice has some veggies like peas and carrots. It was perfectly seasoned and didn't need the extra soy sauce packets. I liked how they had a special for a buy one get one free egg rolls, so I got the 2 count crispy pork egg rolls. I ended up with 5 (4 for the $6.95 special) since my meal also came with one. They were a little greasy, but they were huge and flavorful. There was ground, red pork meat which is different to me. They gave plenty of duck sauce packets, which I love. I didn't eat all 5, but I did share with some of my staff and district staff. I saved one for home. I'm glad there's a great Chinese restaurant less than 10 minutes from my Spring office. I want to try the vegetable egg foo young next time. read more

I'm a tough critic when it comes to Chinese/Asian takeout . Around there, they are a dime a dozen. Whenever I'm trying one of these spots for the first time, I order my tried & true "sampler" combo: a meat dish, a noodle dish, fried rice, and an appetizer. Turns out, Chen's Kitchen got an A+ across the board from me. - The orange beef had a coating that was thick enough to add a bit of texture & absorb the sauce but thin enough for the meat to stay tender. - The lo mein noodles were perfectly cooked and the chicken juicy. It was fresh, not oily, with a great ratio among ingredients. - The fried rice was the perfect texture, neither too mushy nor too crispy, and thankfully not overwhelming in flavor nor veggies. - The steamed dumplings had both a delicate wrapper and a meaty filling... expertly made, if you ask me. - All the portions were generous! I had eaten here last year and liked it but tonight's food was not good. There was no flavor in the lo mein or fried rice and no vegetables or egg in the fried rice either. Everything was dry and seemed overcooked or reheated. We were looking forward to treating ourselves to dinner and instead were very disappointed. read more

There is a specific kind of heartbreak that comes with biting into a nostalgia-filled meal only to find it's been replaced by a "budget" version of itself. It sounds like Chen's might be falling into the trap of cutting corners--a move that usually signals a change in management or a desperate attempt to keep margins up while quality takes the hit. Why That Experience Missed the Mark: The "Gaslighting" Egg Roll: To be fair, most American-Chinese "egg rolls" actually get their name from the egg in the wrapper dough, not the filling--but the total absence of pork is a dealbreaker. If it felt like a large spring roll, they likely swapped their recipe for a cheaper, vegetable-only filler. When I called them to let them know that we receive spring rolls, they insisted that they were indeed pork egg rolls. These were not the same same egg rolls they served in the past. The "Fried" Rice Fail: Fried rice without the egg is essentially just seasoned steamed rice. It's the "soul" of the dish, and skipping it (along with the low quantity of veggies) is a classic sign of a kitchen rushing through orders or skimping on ingredients. The Sweet & Sour Chicken: It was over-fried and dry. Over-frying usually happens when the kitchen pre-fries the meat in bulk and then re-drops it in the oil to warm it up for your order. I've been checking every few weeks to see if they were reopened or closed or what was happening. Lo and behold, I checked and called and they're open!!!! I quickly ordered on UE. this establishment is very dirty and unhygienic. They will yell at you for using the restroom if they think you're not buying food. after seeing a rat practically run in circles around the kitchen, I knew I would never step foot in there again. Tell your workers to have more class and basic human decency. this place deserves a -5 star review in my opinion. Not to mention the lizard sized roaches in the restroom. it would be a shame if they got payed a visit by the health department. read more

I originally chose a Jamaican spot across the street from here but they were closed, so instead of driving anywhere we went across the street, and placed an order. No matter how much salt, pepper, soy sauce, duck sauce and sweet n sour sauce I added to the veggie fried rice, it was still flavorless. I was so hungry but my hunger was not satisfied :/ customer service was good and food selection was there but I was expecting better quality food for the price we paid. All I have to say about this restaurant is the food taste like it came straight from China always fresh always hot! We imagined a seasoned shrimp bathed in a savory butter sauce, but instead it is a sweet, glazed shrimp on top of crispy noodles. There is no description to warn people about what they're getting. Ate here again because I try to support local businesses. The steamed pork dumplings were quite good. I really enjoyed the Singapore noodle fun; it was tasty and a large portion. Quite a few onions. Next time I'll ask to have them left out. Ordered the special fried rice. It was so bland. None of the meats had any flavor. I was disappointed in that. I shouldn't need to drown fried rice in sauce to make it tasty, which is what I had to do. It's a shame the meat hadn't been seasoned or allowed to marinate. That should have been enough flavor to not need to add sauces. But then again, this is America and Americans love saucing things up. How I miss the authentic food in China. Food was delivered quickly and was still quite hot. Even though I stated this was a meal for 4, they only included flatware and cookies for 2. Okay so the lady who owns this business is awesome. She's so sweet and SUCH a hard worker. The food is good, the beef lo mein is delicious, a little oily but very yummy and lots of beef in there. The mango garlic chicken is strange.. doesn't really taste like mangos, it's yummy but don't really feel like it fits the name. Won ton soup needs some work, had a soapy flavor? The fried rice (so far I've had veggie, chicken, and pork) are rich and flavorful. The beef and broccoli is very good and broccoli isn't over cooked (love that!) the crab puffs are so so and I'm not crazy about how oily the egg rolls are. The pork potstickers are good, oily, and flavorful. I would eat here again, for sure, but it's not my FAVORITE. All in all I give it 3.5 out of 5. read more

We ordered pork potstickers, beef lo mein, sesame chicken and fried rice. The potstickers and the dipping sauce were GREAT! Best dipping sauce I've had. All the other stuff was weird... lo mein had too much oyster sauce in it and made it "fishy". I was excited, they are close to where I live. I had the wings, lemon pepper, order of 8. So I thought I was going to get 8 wings, but they cut the wings in half, so it's not a full order.
