The Shrimp Fried Rice: AMAZING. The Boneless Spare Ribs: eh... So I'm on a continued quest for remotely decent Chinese food in the Spring/North Houston area. I'm from New Orleans, so you bet your bottom beignet that I'm a food snob. I grade most restaurants out here on a curve anyway, but for the first time, I've found Shrimp Fried Rice that actually holds a candle to what I'm used to back home. The Shrimp Fried Rice at Great Wall isn't gummy like I've become accustomed to here in Texas writ large, I wasn't bombarded with giant onions (or any, for that matter), it's not seasoned with spices that have nothing to do with Shrimp Fried Rice, and my stomach isn't upset. I usually drag my feet on writing reviews, but I had to do this one "immeedjetly." That was the Shrimp Fried Rice; I wish I had gotten a full order, love-love-love. The Boneless Spare Ribs, though... I'm judging these based on a specific restaurant back home, my favorite Chinese in the world. So I'm used to ribs that are cut against the grain into thin strips, nice and charred, and rolled around in a thick goop of sweet and sour sauce and barbecue that would make even the most experienced pit master blush. I didn't get that here. It's mostly a generic pork taste--which is already hit or miss--thinly mixed with the sauce I described. So I left a few small, worthy pieces in my rice and dumped the rest in the bag so that I could fully enjoy the rice. I may try the 8 fried wings next time, but while the ribs didn't do anything for me, the fried rice was on FIRE. This was the first time I've ever *inhaled* Shrimp Fried Rice from a Chinese restaurant out here, so I'm very pleased. read more

Local Chinese grocery market in an otherwise busy shopping plaza. The veggies and fruit selection aren't the freshest for the size of the store. They have a decent selection of dry goods and frozen goods as well but we don't really buy particular items here. In terms of produce, this is a middle of the pack option, and same thing in terms of meats or frozen goods. It is however, in a convenient location after going to get boba. read more

The food was great, and was cooked very well. I had the lunch special hunan chicken with fried rice. There's no add ins with the rice and it's your standard fried rice. The hunan chicken has a nice kick to it. Seasoning is light, but very understandable to play it safe for everyone's pallet. Last, I had the chicken mei fun noodles. It has been SO HARD to find a simple Mei fun without a million different tastes. It was simplistic and awesome! Again, the chicken was cooked very well. I will definitely be returning. read more

As I pulled up there was a bum who then posted up outside, just outside where the restaurant could see him, he then proceeded to surprise a woman walking out with her To go order to the extent that she dropped her food to him a left. Unfortunately my window was up so I don't know if he threatened her or asked politely, but I witnessed her surrender her entire bag of food to the vagrant. Located in a strip shopping center near I45 off FM 1960 the Great Wall Chinese restaurant is worthy of a stop. The food is good! You order at a walk up window then pick a table as there is limited seating. Don't wait to get a table as the small restaurant will fill up at lunch time. Drinks are self serve. Our office favorite entree is General Tso's chicken off the lunch special menu. Served with steamed rice and a delicious egg roll. This seems to be the office favorite since that is what we all keep ordering. Kind of hard to write a detailed review on the other menu choices since we all keep getting the same thing. I'm basing my rating on what kind of Chinese restaurant this is -- not comparing it to fancier Szechuan places. Started going about 6 weeks ago and have had many different dishes; most on the lunch special. Yup, they messed up a bit on my first order. They gave me egg drop instead of hot & sour. You're talking a cup of soup and the rest of the food was so delish I won't subtract for that. If it means that much to you just double check before you leave. What I love there so far: Steamed dumplings Wonton soup Beef Lo Mein Moo Goo Gai Pan Sweet & Sour Chicken The meat is fresh and good quality. I buy a bunch of food, put most of it in the fridge, and eat it over the next 3-4 days. The chicken never tastes "gamey" even 3 days later. I have not had such yummy dumplings since I lived in New York. The pork roast lo mein is fine, but I prefer beef. The egg rolls are fine. The hot & sour soup is fine. Acceptable, but now I just get the won ton soup with the lunch specials or just buy a quart. Did not get to the egg drop soup, but it looked and smelled fine when they gave it to me by accident. The general tsao's chicken I recall as being fine, but not knock-your-socks off. I want to try other similar dishes in the future. I will continue to try different things, but I see any of their beef dishes (because they appear to be using good meat), Moo Goo Gai Pan, won ton soup, and dumplings as staples. Tip: Get hot oil on the side. Good in everything especially the sweet & sour chicken sauce. This is good, fresh, "neighborhood" Chinese food at very reasonable prices served with a smile. read more

I would say this is definitely it my top five for Chinese restaurants. Food is 5 stars. It was fresh hot and yummy. The egg took had a strange taste to it. Like if it was a bit undercooked. I had the kung pao chicken (had to tell them no vegetables because you will get more veggies than chicken) white rice was on point. My hubby had the general tso chicken which he said was okay and he isn't a big Chinese eater The establishment I give 4 stars. It was overall clean. Area is sucky. And the size of the restaurant is tiny. Luckily it's not really packed. Just a lot of take out orders so people are coming in and out. Overall service is 3 stars. This was our first time here. Even though the establishment is small there isn't a sense of direction. Evidently there isn't a wait staff. So we sat for a good five minutes then figured out that we have to order at the counter. This is a very cute little restaurant. It's close to home and the prices are right. If needed, they even offer delivery for orders over $20. My favorite dishes are the shrimp and veggies, sweet and sour chicken, and the house fried rice. I'm sure there are other great choices but these are my favorite. The staff are great and friendly. I was at this location tonight on 1960 and cypress station and witnessed the front counter cashier pull a pistol out on this black man for wanting his refund for the food he ordered. I was standing at the counter as well. I requested my refund first because of his poor customer service and attitude...when the black male customer requested his due to the nasty attitude he had previously with him, he told him "WHAT THE HELL HE WANT A REFUND FOR".....the black male kept his cool but was very upset at how aggressive and disrespectful the man at the counter was.....Words were exchanged but nothing to put any fear in the atmosphere. There was absolutely no threat involved. The guy at the register pulled his gun out with multiple customers in this restaurant for no valid reason. I would never spend another dime here. We support these places and they treat us like shit. I wonder if justice would be serve for that black man because he could've been shot and killed behind wanting a refund. This mess has to change. I was driving by on the way to visit a friend and I decided to stop in and see what they had to offer. I ended up making the decision on getting a small egg drop soup, crab Rangoon, and a small order of the pork fried rice. The best dish out of the three was the pork fried rice. The flavors were good and the portion size was to my liking. The crab Rangoon was what you would expect from a Chinese fast food restaurant but the egg drop soup was very bland.
