We showed up before they were open for breakfast, but they took us in anyways, and accommodated us as if it was just normal service time. We had an elderly lady (Mom) with us, and we were warmly welcomed. Everything was very good, but beware the jalapeño relish (they typically serve on burgers)!!!!!! This quaint restaurant is located inside hotel Sutter. My friend and I ate her for her bday. We had crab cakes and an appetizer and they were excellent! The texture was a bit pasty but it was very flavorful and there was a nice crunch on the outside of the crab cake! The sauce and presentation was also a plus. As an entree I had the Brie and mushroom burger med well and it was ok... kind of dry... it needed a sauce like teriyaki or a chimichuri sauce to bring it to life. All the food was fresh and very high quality. The portions were generous... but there is no microwave in the hotel rooms so... no way to reheat food. Always our go to happy hour spot. As of late the beer selection is off, not to mention the ever changing Brussel sprouts recipe!!!! Every time a new chef comes in he has screwed up what was once a signature dish for the locals. Darius had it right from the beginning, get back to the original!!!!. This is definitely the perfect dinner place! The food was out of this world! First they start you with bread. Definitely say yes to the bread! My boyfriend got the grilled shrimp plate and I got the Alfredo Pesto pasta with grilled chicken. Soo delicious! I didn't eat the whole thing, mainly because i wanted to enjoy it later too! We also ordered cocktails! He loved his Mary and I had a delicious margarita! The best part of it all was the staff! They made this experience soooo worth coming back again and again! Visiting from LA to see my wonderful family for a small covid-safe holiday gathering, and to my surprise they had ordered a full blown dinner thru your hotel. I thought what a novel idea considering our current state of affairs being careful shopping n all. Wash n wear masks u all! The dinner was priced nicely, and there were left overs:), it was easy to heat up and prepare with the stellar directions, and I can't say one bad thing about the overall feast experience. Ordered the 1858 burger with a veggie patty and they got my order wrong. Brought a replacement burger 10 minutes later and must have dumped a jar of cayenne pepper because it was way to spicy. Prior to eating i overheard a guy in the bar telling the bartender his food was too spicy as well and she replied youre not the first one to say that today. The day before thanksgiving, one would expect busy and be prepared for such. It looked 65% of capacity. An hour wait is a ludicrous time to wait for the main meal. Spinach dip app tasted ok. Very greasy. Very much not hot/warm. The toasted bread rounds had a fantastic crunch without tearing the roof of the mouth. Main course. My NY was cooked a perfect med rare. Mashed potatoes and mixed veg - not hot. The Mrs had a California burger that was cooked med well and very flavorful. While having good tasting good is paramount to going out - service needs immense help. read more

I enjoyed dinner a tad more..our server just seemed more on it that night and we really appreciated the Miner bread served with dinner...so goddamned delicious, we had to buy a loaf to go! The ceasar salad with prosciutto was excellent!! Crabcakes, eh...not so much and possibly made with canned crab. Shared a rib eye with the hubs and it was amazing! They have an excellent wine selection..I opted for the Bella Grace chard.. I hear if you drink local wine with local food it cures your allergies :) OK maybe that's just for honey.. but I did like eating and drinking local for a moment! So disappointing. I came here hoping the low ratings of yelpers was just a fluke, but if anything, they are generous. Eating out nearly every night due to work and travel I would suggest avoiding this place. Ambiance was the strongest attribute. The decor is historic, there's a small hotel attached, and the atmosphere is casual. Despite half the tables open wait was lengthy. The wait was however much greater until the server ever addressed me. For drinks I ordered an old fashioned and a cab. The old fashioned was awful and I whatever red wine I had was just not a cab. A wedge salad and new york strip, what could go wrong? So after waiting 35 .. 45 .. probably, drinks came. Then salad? Where where are you, oh, you come with my steak when I've been waiting forever and asked for the salad to come out first. Steak, you guessed it, overcooked. My medium rare request is medium well and a little more. The steak was tough and I didn't finish it. Oh and the wedge, decent, but jigantic. I wish the server would of warned me. I wanted to really like this place. The aesthetics are upscale. The food is not. I would recommend doing a late lunch in the dining room when the huge windows are open to the air. I might have ordered the wrong thing - crab salad. They used frozen crab and my friends shrimp was the same. I should have known better being so far from the Coast. If this restaurant is the only thing standing between you and starvation, eat here. Otherwise, go somewhere else. There are not too many restaurants open in the Sutter Creek area now and this was the only one we could get into. We would've been better off going to a grocery store and buying a bag of Doritos. We ordered one of their specialty drinks, and because we got two, the server recommended the special, four for the price of three. Big mistake. They were watery with very little bourbon; it reminded me of the Hawaiian Punch I drank as a kid. My wife's "César salad" consisted of two pieces of yellowish Romain lettuce with a few croutons on a salad plate. Luckily she had added the chicken or that would've been it. My "wedge salad" was a small sad "wedge" resting on a salad plate with a few bacon bits sprinkled on it and some lonely crumbs of blue cheese on the side. These would have been unacceptable as side salads but they were sold as "entrée" salads. Maybe in an alternate universe. (I am giving them a pass on extremely slow service due to the possibility of understaffing due to COVID issues.) If you're stopping over in Sutter Creek, plan ahead. Otherwise, stock a backup bag of Doritos. read more

I had to give this restaurant a 5 star rating because of the ambiance, the food, and the amazing server. This is an historic hotel, so you really get the feeling of being in the Gold Country. The menu has something for everyone. We especially loved the roasted brussel sprouts with bacon, parmesan, and a delicious garlic aioli! Also good - the NY steak (well prepared), the BBQ baby back ribs (lean), and the Caesar and Wedge salads. Our waiter, Mariah, made our dinner a perfect experience. She was welcoming, knowledgeable, and basically said "Yes!" to everything we requested. We got our drinks and food quickly, and we were very happy with our experience. I think the restaurant manager must train their staff well on Customer Service. Because Mariah was a star! When we come back, we'll ask for her again. Thank you! read more

Very cool historic building and while food was tasty, portions are skimpy. Had a shrimp and crab cocktail and while the bowl of lettuce and fixing was generous, the crab meat was maybe two teaspoons. My companion had the tri tip sandwich which had very little meat. Unfortunately, they operate like a tourist trap. This place is amazing. The atmosphere and food were fantastic and the wait staff went above and beyond the Call of Duty. They were efficient, friendly and helpful. Disappointing dinner. Husband and I ordered whiskey burger and regular burger. The food surprisingly came to our table in just 10 minutes. I ordered mine medium and it came back almost uncooked. The inside of the burger was lukewarm and the texture of the meat was that of uncooked beef tartare. Hubby's fries were soggy and not very warm. I informed two of the waitresses of the rare burger so they could tell the cooks. I just want them to pay better attention to the food they are making so no one else ends up with the same unsatisfactory burger. read more

We ate here twice while staying at the hotel and had good and not-so-good experiences. They have balcony seating with overhead misters, which we loved (especially on a hot day). During COVID, you order at the bar, and they give you a number and bring your food. Our first night, blackened salmon special was excellent. On our last night, they screwed up and forgot to order our app and salad. We went back downstairs around 7 to order another entree, and no one said a thing about closing time. At 7:30, as we were about to go downstairs to order dessert, the bartender came up with our tab and credit cards. When we tried to order dessert, she said the kitchen was closed. No last call given to anyone on the balcony, and half the tables were full. At 7:30 p.m. on a Sunday. The wine list doesn't have many quality bottles. The bar was out of mint all weekend--and two of their signature drinks have mint. (Not sure why someone couldn't drive to the nearby Safeway and restock.) They could have made a lot more money off of us. read more
