Definitely​ a disappointment. This is the only sit-down "fancy" restaurant in Sutter Creek. It's not that fancy. I think the best part was the friendliness of the staff. Haley was our server and she was very welcoming and checked on our enjoyment of the meal throughout. The only misstep was not bringing the bread that we requested until after a reminder. We ordered drinks to start. I had the Makers Mark Cooler. Think Mojito with whiskey​ instead​ of rum. It was quite good. I had the blackened​ shrimp with risotto​​ for my main. There was a generous serving of very spicy shrimp on top of a very small portion of risotto an a side of green and wax beans and carrots. Nothing was terrible, it just was nothing special. The shrimp tasted fine but they were a little rubbery. The risotto tasted like it was made with cream and jack cheese rather than parmesan. It was ok, but a bit bland. The whole dish looked like shrimp and grits. The room was very loud. There was a large party sitting next to us who were talking quite loudly. The room is all hard surfaces so there is nothing to dampen the noise. It made have a quiet conversation impossible. It is an historic building and like how they kept the 1800's character of the dining room. But the bare wooden tables, brick walls, and high ceilings only made the loud conversations resonate throughout the room. It is the only dining option in Sutter Creek that is not bar food, sandwiches, pizza, or Tex-Mex. That is too bad. Well, let me start by saying it was nice to sit on the balcony overlooking Main Street. For that I give two stars. However, my friend and I like to meet up once a month and go to lunch to catch up. We figured we'd try the restaurant of Hotel Sutter. We were told in advance they did t have any wait staff for the balcony other than delivering our food after we ordered it at the bar. And we would have to go back downstairs for any drink refills so we understood those limitations ahead of our visit. We placed our orders at the bar; I ordered the coconut prawns for $18 and my friend ordered the charcuterie board for $18. We both had iced tea. We took our teas upstairs and waited for our appetizers. And waited. And waited. It was very nearly 30 minutes before our food arrived. My $18 coconut prawn dish consisted of 4 prawns. They weren't hot, they didn't have any coconut taste. The charcuterie consisted of a large hard-as-a-rock pretzel, three small "samples" of dips (goat cheese spread, fig jam, melted cheese), three small slices of prosciutto, and nine toasted candied walnut halves. To say we were disappointed would be kind. We didn't eat the majority of the pretzel because it was so crazy hard and dry and tasteless. The walnuts were over toasted. The iced tea was fine. We both decided we would not come to this restaurant again. It was overpriced and the food was unimpressive and, frankly, scanty. But like I said, sitting on the balcony was nice. But I expect more than that when I plunk down $18 per appetizer. read more

Flies, Lies and Excuses.... We have been coming to this bar/restaurant for many years and on our last visit we were treated very poorly by a young man tending the bar. Beyond the horrible customer service we received from him, we were bombarded by flies trying to share our food. While this is very irritating, the insult to injury was we were given a device that spun around like a mini fan to try to shoo away the flies. The people next to us requested one of these devices and were given one too. I seriously question the management team here to choose a infantile solution to distract the flies rather than seek a solution to remove the source of the flies. Why subject people to this annoying treatment? However, the biggest insult we experienced was from Rebecca C., the "Business manager". I think her main role is to monitor bad Yelp reviews. She texted us several times and made numerous excuses for her employee who treated us poorly. She tried to pacify us with the offer of a gift card to make up for the bad service given to us. We told her a gift card was not necessary, but she pushed hard for us to give her our home address and we gave in and sent it to her. It has been over three weeks since we last texted with her and all we have heard has been crickets. Why waste people's time with false promises of a gift card? You already convinced us that your employees don't care about customer service, management doesn't care about the flies and Rebecca doesn't care about lying to people. Followed along with Maddie, She dropped off our yummy food in a super professional manner and kept up with our refills and made sure we had everything we needed with our meal. Every time we come to Amador County to wine taste, we come here for dinner. Consistently good friendly professional service, delicious food, and a great relaxed atmosphere. Today we sat outside on the balcony upstairs and enjoyed a gin and tonic (me) and 12 year Redbreast whiskey (hubby) with our Brussel sprouts, salad, and chimichurri tri-tip. My wife and I recently sat at the bar and ate dinner and had a few drinks. The bar was really busy and the bartender, Brandon, went out of his way to find us chairs and an area to sit. The food was excellent and Brandon really helped us by suggesting some excellent appetizers and main courses. Best seats in the house are either on second floor balcony or at the large open windows at the front Service left a lot to be desired. Slow in taking our order. Empty water glasses. At the end of the meal it took awhile to get the check. The food was ok. Hubby enjoyed his pulled pork sliders, fries and cole slaw. It all had good flavors. I tried the grilled chicken sandwich. This place gets better and better with time. The menu just recently changed and it's the bomb.com. I love it. The service is newly great and the food accommodated all people in our party of 6. Food came out hot and delicious and they also have a great alcoholic menu & mock tails in case you don't want to drink. Loved the hanging pretzel and the Brussels sprouts are TO DIE FOR!!! We stayed at this hotel on a romantic night away from the kids. It was perfect. Went wine tasting in town and then the restaurant waived the corkage fee on an amazing bottle of wine that we brought back. The restaurant was bustling with an upbeat atmosphere on a Thursday night. We both ordered sandwiches and fries which was a little strange in a fancy -ish place with really nice wine but, man o man were those sandwiches good. Worth another try. Super friendly staff. We didn't have reservations, and were told it would be a 30 minute wait that turned into close to 2.25 hours. We hung out in Cooper lounge downstairs which had a nice casual vibe that had a whiskey bar, wine, beer and other cocktails. The bar was slow and understaffed, but we were not in a rush. We ended up ordering food to go and brought it downstairs to the lounge to eat, which I wish we had done earlier. Some missing food was quickly brought down. We visited Daffodil Hill today from the SF Bay Area and stopped here for dinner. We really wanted to love this place. There is something about having a go-to favorite in small, local California towns. I was hoping to taste a signature drink, sample food from local growers, eat off stoneware from local businesses. Hoped for artisan quality, localized to highlight why we love Sutter Creek. That's part of the charm for tourists..we go back to work and talk about our weekends and "oh you HAVE to try this restaurant..." We ordered a a big meal, appetizers to dessert. It was not good. It tasted like everything was from a can and just mixed together. Everything was average food at best, but mostly just not good, little flavor, over cooked. Like they tried hard, but it feels like there is not really a trained chef, just someone who follows recipes from the internet. The other thing...we were going to be charged for sharing plates. That seems so weird, and I was like forgot it we don't need the extra food that bad. I also asked and their employees do not get a discount to eat there. I took away a star just for the cheapness of the management decisions. All that aside, here is what we loved the most and the ONLY reason we would give it one more try. The staff are amazing, truly among the best. It was awesome, and THAT is what I will say about this place. Food is not great, but the staff is awesome. Having said all that, I feel like if the owners/managers watched a few seasons of Restaurant Impossible, or even hired a consultant for feedback, they would be able to get it on track. It's almost cute, almost good...100% potential to be wildly successful, but like they need an outsider to help a little. Support the local farmers and artisans, and we will for sure be back. After parking we talked with a group of locals and was told to eat at the place across from Hotel Sutter. After looking in at their menu we decided to go to Hotel Sutter. Once food was ordered it took a while before seeing that food. The salmon was a bit over cooked, good flavor. The whiskey burger was way undercooked and the Brussels were close to very burnt. We shared the salmon since that seemed to be the only thing somewhat edible. I then bagged up all the food and took home with the intent of feeding to the dog. I called the restaurant and was told that a refund was not available since we ate the food. So the next day I drove all they way back up there (half tank of gas) to give them the food "we ate". Great experience at Hotel Sutter restaurant. Came here with my sisters and have had nothing but a wonderful time. The food is delicious. We got the pig fig n goat pretzel, wow!! For our main meal, we got Brisket, the sutter burger and the southwestern salad, sub tri tip! Everything was great. We joined family for dinner here for the first time. It will be the last time. After driving by for decades and not having a chance to stop, we were looking forward to enjoying a nice meal and quality visitation with our family. My husband's order of the tri-tip dinner entree for $25 was a joke. Eight pieces ranging in soze from a dime to a Dwight Eisenhower dollar coin were laid across the bottom of the medium sized square plate with no au jus, reduction sauce or "gravy". The coleslaw was lackluster and bland with the garlic tots being similar to Sonic's. Our daughter and granddaughter split a half rack of BBQ short ribs. The "Smoky" beans were mediocre at best along with the "Sonic" tots. I ordered the Moroccan Grilled Salmon filet that wasn't even 3 ounces in size prior to grilling. The Moroccan sauce had no flavor flair of the country namesake along with the asparagus and Brussels sprouts being very undercooked. I ordered a garden salad to enjoy before my entree which was never received. When I asked the server to please make sure it was taken off the bill, she asked me what was wrong with it. When I told her I never got it, she just stared at me and then said "ohhh". I then looked at our family and we all just inquisitively looked at one another in agreement that she truly tried to pass it off as though I got it. Then dessert of Caramel Apple Crisp... a large scoop of cheap extra sweet cobbler served on a coffee cup saucer. Gets better, hours old coffee served in a disposable cup. I hate to give bad reviews but this is not the 1st disappointment at this restaurant. My wife and I went out for what was suppose to be a Valentine's Day weekend romantic dinner which turned out to be a waste of an evening. My wife and I showed up to Hotel Sutter around 7:45 and after putting in for a table for 2 we decided to have a drink at their bar, the only thing that is ever consistent and worth the wait beside there hospitable staff. Around 7:55 or so they called us to our table. Once we sat down our waitress, who was great, took our order around 8:05pm. My wife ordered the filet mignon medium rare and I ordered 3 appetizers Wild Prawns, Crab Cakes, and the artichoke dip. While my wife and I had an amazing time and the conversations were flowing we started to realize it was taking extremely long for any of the food to arrive. I noticed tables around us being served yet our appetizers were still not at our table and it was 8:40pm. Between 8:45-8:55 our waitress brought out our appetizers and then came back with my wife's entree. This means my wife's steak along with the 3 appetizers all arrived nearly at the same time. Not that this is a huge problem but once it arrived I noticed the crab cakes were over cooked, the wild prawns were not even Luke warm and on top of that my wife's steak was fully rare in the middle. Now myself, I like it this way but the fact my wife ordered it med rare and it took over 45mins to actually get it was just unacceptable. The artichoke dip was truly the only good part of the dinner and we only had a couple bites before we decided to leave the establishment. This is not the first time we have experienced this. One night I had clients in town, engineers and consultants, and they wanted to go eat steaks in town. I decided to take them to Hotel Sutter. Just to keep this short and sweet they steaks that my associates ordered we uncooked and almost frozen in the middle. It was truly embarrassing from a business standpoint and even more disappointing because of the prices and prestige this place seems to project. As for my wife and I we left HS around 9:05-9:10 the worst part if your from up here you know there really isn't anything worth eating that is open past 9. So my wife and I got to enjoy a Mc Donald's meal for our V Day dinner. We had lunch here and everything was good. We shared the pig, fig and goat and the calamari appetizers and washed them down with a couple of delicious beers. The calamari was lightly breaded and very tender and the dipping sauce was yummy. The pig, fig and goat was a very large pretzel that was filled and surrounded by an herbed goat cheese spread, fig jam, candied pecans, and a large pile of prosciutto. All the different combinations of the stuff were just delicious and too much for us to finish. The service was very friendly and efficient and the prices were good. The only downside was that the front doors/windows were wide open and a couple of DBs sat on their Harleys for at least 5 - 10 minutes revving them loudly and belching smoke and fumes into the building. The best part of lunch was sitting out on the dining balcony looking down on the street and watching the parade of classic cars passing by after the show. The naan flatbread (Basil Chicken) looked impressive but topped with dry chewy chicken and not so fresh pesto. The naan bread was crispy; a plus. The side salad served in a bowl, dressing on the side, firmly packed with whole leaf lettuce leaves - I turned it out onto a plate. It appeared that Hotel Sutter Restaurant was hinting at being trendy and somewhat classy. Floor to ceiling folding windows in the front open the first floor dining to the outdoors. A walk upstairs and down the hall to the 2nd floor balcony. The menu offered nothing original nor signature. Service was a bit slow Serving dressing and catsup in plastic 2oz containers isn't my idea of modish. The Saloon Bar area was inviting for a beer or cocktail.
