I stood here while attending a wedding 8/15 - 8/18 .. My room had 2 queen size beds and enough room for us to move around freely. Beds were comfy, and the room was immaculate. Yes, the bathroom door was a pocket slider .. big deal! .. I had no problem with water pressure, and the shower was hot. My son & his wife were staying at a different, more expensive hotel up the street, and his room was very small. He loved ours! The staff was very friendly & knowledgeable about the city. Since this was my first visit to chicago, I needed a lot of help getting around. Denise at the front desk wrote down addresses of various places to visit and even helped me find a salon for me to have my hair done for the wedding I was attending. After checkout, I received a message from management stating I left the room in "very poor condition" and had been added to a banned guest list. No concerns were raised during my stay, and no details or evidence were provided afterward. This level of communication lacks transparency and professionalism. Hotel Saint Clair was a confusing guest experience for myself and my family. As we walked into the hotel, we immediately got this strange smell. I cant really recall the smell but it wasn't the best. This hotel was awful experience for a few reasons. 1. The false advertisement. As seen on the pictures, the hotel room is just a little bit bigger with some room. it wasn't like that at all. The hotel room was cramped and very, very tight. 2. The TERRIBLE water pressure in the shower. The water pressure was the worst. it has no reach to the back of shower and it felt like a stream. Why is there hand soap in the shower? 3. The tiniest bathroom ever to exist. There's absolutely no room to move around or even spread your arms out. As i was trying to curl my hair in the bathroom, my arms continued to hit against the glass. since you get out the shower you can barely put on clothes or anything. Then, the bathroom door didn't even close all the way. It would repeatedly come open a few inches. Not that that's a huge issue, it's just the little things that count. I definitely expected a lot more out of this hotel. 4. The noise the bed made. Once you move a single centimeter you could hear metal clanking against each other. The noise irritated the soul. " Oh, I wanna hear metal clanking while i'm trying to sleep!" Said no one ever. 5. The lights behind the tv didn't even turn on. I persistently tried to turn the lights on, but they couldn't even do that. I genuinely hated how we had to use keycards for everything. I get it was to make sure no random just waltz in, but we should have access to the stairs without having to use a keycard. And if you forgot that keycard it's guaranteed you're stuck in the lobby or outside. The elevators took foreverrrr to come up. The parking garage was $69.00 just to park for 12-24 hours. That is insane. If anyone had that kind of money to run in and out of a garage, you would do it. At that, there were barely any parking spots. We spent $200 all together on ONE parking garage. If anything the prices should be 20-35. THAT is reasonable enough. $400 for ONE night at that hotel. Just for it to be the tiniest hotel i've ever been in. I'm in raged by these prices. You're never that broke to charge $69 for a parking spot and $400 for a room. I am deeply disappointed with this hotel. You should have much more integrity and honesty within the company. I hope that whoever comes here's can find common sense and go to a different hotel. Enough about the bad stuff, onto the good. I really loved how the gym was open at all times and you could always clear your mind in many ways. ( Y'all could definitely use a stair master in there.) Also one of the bikes was broken. I also liked how the beds were really comfy. I could easily go to sleep because i was so comfortable. That's pretty much all i have to say. Stay at hotel Saint Clair or not. I would not stay here again. The place is falling apart, literally. You have to request for housekeeping which we did and they still didn't come, then when we asked for towels since housekeeping never showed, they make you go to the lobby to pick up your towels. They had no hot water. We had to call down 2-3 times for them to turn it on. When on, hot water only lasted 5 min. This was a problem with multiple rooms during the winter. Radiator/AC/Heat was exceptionally loud at night and made big banging noises. Noise from the hallway can be heard perfectly from your room. This is a cheap hotel. Fine for a night but no longer. The elevators for one, the are slow they only allow 5 people max limit in them so when you have luggage it takes up space for a person. 2nd the valet people need to do their job and not be so lazy and combative with paying guests of the hotel. Oh girl let me tell you about our stay at Hotel St. Clair in Chicago because it was giving camp and not the good kind. We checked in all excited and chic, only to be handed the WASP PALACE. Like, actual wasps. Flying. Buzzing. Plotting. The bellhop bravely opened the door, and suddenly it turned into a horror movie. Screaming. Flailing. Full-blown sting opera. It was traumatic and also lowkey iconic? He was a soldier. Eventually they moved us to a new room (thank you!) that did not double as an insect nightclub, and from then on the stay was fine, but baby that first night will haunt me forever. All of the staff was very welcoming, even during a stressful check-in, they made sure to work things out so that my puppy and I could have a pleasant stay. I utilized their very clean gym facilities, had a delish croissant and mocha at the lobby, and a great birthday brunch with childhood bffs at Nora's Restaurant right downstairs! We all enjoyed the neighborhood too, my puppy with me was not a problem, we felt very safe and location was convenient to walk around, we stopped in Starbucks Reserve for drinks. Had to pay extra for a mini fridge and microwave in the room. There's no ironing board, you have to share with your floor. People are smoking in their rooms so you'll either smell weed or cigarettes pretty much the entire time you stay. Very expensive for no amenities either! read more

This hotel was a last minute find when we had a sudden change of plan. Located conveniently in a prime spot, middle of down downtown and the magnificent mile. Perfectly positioned and easily within walking distance of almost everything. The lobby, the front desk area and the rooms were clean but the rooms are little small. We spent most of the time outside, stayed just overnight and left early morning so we were okay. The rooms are boutique but had the basic amenities for an overnight stay. Staff were professional and accommodating. Front desk concierge granted an early check in before 3pm. But they don't offer late check out. The only drawback was to find a parking spot as it was long weekend. There is a parking structure close to hotel across the street for which they validate the parking. Would be extremely expensive if not for validation. Overall decent and well located. We had a pleasant stay with kids. I would recommend if you want to stay close to shopping and sights. Good value for the location. But don't have high expectations. read more

Great three night stay here starting the day after Christmas. 4 stars just because rooms are so small. We never spent much time in the room anyway, so it was no big deal. We were always out and about,and the location of this hotel is perfect! It's pretty much right in the middle of the Magnificent Mile and close to anything in downtown Chicago. We walk a lot when we travel, and the Hotel St Clair provided amazing opportunities to walk to great places to eat and sight see. Anything outside the area was a simple El ride. We transferred from the blue line to the red line a bunch this trip and even made some transfers to our favorite brown line. Hotel St Clair made everything simple. The staff is awesome. Our views from our room were wonderful. The beds were comfortable. Definitely a hotel I'd like to stay at again. read more

I am currently staying here with my husband. Online it looked like a nice hotel, in person, it sucks. Valet parking is good and the Nova restaurant downstairs was nice to grab drinks. The room itself, our A/C seemed like it was running but it stayed 75 degrees in our room the entire weekend. We weren't able to open the window for some fresh air. The bathroom and room was small. There is no closet, microwave, or mini fridge in the room. The bathroom door had no lock and you could see through part of the door even with it being fully shut. The hallways and elevators were small as well. The elevators only fit 5 people and that's if you don't have any luggage with you. My husband and I left the hotel for about 4 hours and when we came back, we found the housekeeping cleaning the same room across the hall from ours but they were just standing around talking, most likely gossiping because when we came down the hall, they got quieter when they saw/heard us and looked at us as if we interrupted something. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and I will not be coming back, I'm happy that we will be checking out tomorrow morning. Absolutely not worth it or the money we spent. read more

The lobby is tiny & cramped, the elevator is tiny and slow and its shared with staff so they are constantly in it with big janitor carts and bags of laundry. The bathrooms in the rooms are a joke- tiny sink with no counter space and a facet that barely trickles out (same w/ shower) and doesn't even have a real door. The bathroom door is a sliding barn door that doesn't lock and has a three inch gap. The shower is basically like if you drilled 3 small holes in a bucket and let the water trickle out. When I book a hotel, I need to accomplish, what I call, the "3 S": SLEEP, SHOWER, and S-word. There's also another "S" I consider, which is SERVICE. So, let's get into it: 1) SLEEP: I couldn't get any. The window to my room wasn't sealed properly and the latch was broken. This resulted in a CONSTANT whistling sound, which only got louder with the increasing wind speed. It was funny at first, then annoying, then downright maddening on my third hour of tossing and turning. Add to this the fact that you'll hear every single ambulance that rushes by on Ontario street, and, well, good luck sleeping folks. 2) SHOWER: I couldn't take one (properly). Look, I get it. The whole world is trying to be ecofriendly. We don't want to see little plastic bottles of soap and shampoo in the rooms wen we can replace them with refillable, wall mounted bottles of product to use. Great. But like, you have to make sure those refillable bottles are actually REFILLED from time to time. There was ZERO, and I mean ZERO: body wash, shampoo and conditioner in the shower. I had to use the one tiny bar of soap they provide to wash my entire body, and hair, and hands later on throughout my stay. Annoying. 3) Pooping: The restroom is very tight and small here. But, this could be accomplished without any complaint or issue. The ability to poop comfortably here is the only reason this place didn't get a 1 star rating. 4) SERVICE: The staff seemed annoyed to see my checking in, and relived to see me checking out (feeling was mutual). read more

The hotel was a last minute buy through the Hopper app. There was initially some confusion, which the staff happens frequently with the hopper app. I would next time forgo the hopper app and book through the hotel. The pictures depicted are in "best condition" the rooms aren't as big as the appear. The best thing about the hotel is they offers a double king room. But that is all that fits in the room, no living space. But! You are in Chicago so don't stay in the room. The thing that stands out about the hotel is the staff. They are so friendly and fun. Everyone says hello and talks with you. The biggest downfall about the hotel is the coffee shop/bar was not open at all during our stay. We booked a 2-bed through hopper thinking this would be a good deal, which it was cheaper than other hotels in the area. However, the hotel was NOT what we expected. Lobby/check in was chaotic, the beds in the room were not comfortable (sinking in the middle of the bed), and the showers had no dividers between the shower and the rest of the bathroom (which means if you took a shower, the water would run into the rest of the bathroom). I initially booked a reservation with The Inn Chicago and canceled it once I got on the line with them to ask a simple question regarding my room and was hung up on twice. I'm glad to have stumbled upon St. Clair Hotel. From my arrival to my check out - they were extremely polite, accommodating and professional. The front desk greeted us every time we walked by, and their building is very well kept and clean. Regarding the room - yes, it was small but so what. If you're visiting Downtown Chicago and are more concerned about how large the room is for your stay, then you're doing something wrong. I stayed in a nice, cozy room w/ a king-size bed and it was perfect. We had a nice city view, A.C, clean sheets and the necessities a guest typically requires. Not to mention they are more affordable than a lot of the hotels in the area. Can't go wrong with a clean stay, welcoming customer service, fantastic location, and cheap rates. To my animal lovers - they are PET-FRIENDLY! They don't charge additionally for a pet and they allow you to keep your furry one in the hotel if needed. Great little hotel in a wonderful location. The rooms are super tiny and the hallways are tiny but we knew that going in and didn't plan to spend a lot of time in the hotel. The only thing we didn't care for was the fact that every single floor smelled like freshly smoked Marijuana and with a baby that was a total turn off! The vending was on the 2nd floor, our original room (which was filthy) was on the 3rd floor, we stopped on the 4th floor at one point and were staying on the 6th floor and every single floor smelled like weed. There must have been a convention or two in town, because finding a reasonably priced room that did not start at $400/night was next to impossible. Finally found the St. Clair and grabbed it because we didnt need anything special, just clean and convenient. The St. Clair did not disappoint, it is walking distance to the Magnificent Mile and Uber close (less than $10) to all other major sites in the city. The check in/out process was quick efficient and the staff is very friendly. The lobby is small the elevators are tiny. Once you put a luggage cart in the elevator you barely have room for two people. The rooms are updated, and very clean, but they are small, How small you ask? There is a bureau, your coffee maker is under your nightstand, the ice bucket is on top of the safe in closet, and your "desk" is one of those padded lap desks. The double beds were very comfortable but the pillows were pretty soft with little support. I will use the theme tiny again, to describe the bathroom. There is NO counterspace and since there is no bureau, if you have alot of personal care items you need to lay out, you will be very challenged. Sound travels a bit too much in this property, you can hear the TV from other rooms, and if anybody is talking above a whisper in the hallway, you can hear it. Would this be my first choice to stay in Chicago? Probably not, but if priced right, it is not a bad option. read more

This hotel stay was for my birthday 12/17. I booked two days through Priceline. Upon arrival I checked into my assigned room and upon entering it I knew it was not what I expected or paid for, hair on my bed, toilet paper in the toilet bowl, I immediately called the front desk who were very unapologetic, I informed them that I would be checking out because I was not satisfied and finding another room nearby. I asked for a refund of my stay since I was only in the room for approximately one hour. Management once again was unwilling to accommodate me with a full refund and offered a partial refund which as of today I have not received, after being told it would be returned by the next day. I would not recommend staying here for any reason. Housekeeping clearly did not clean the room after the last guest which is concerning during an epidemic. read more

I visited this hotel in 2014 when it was a Red Roof Inn and shabby. It's since been updated, gutted and I must say it's really nice, they did a great job with the updates. It's obviously centrally located in the perfect spot if you're staying downtown, close to literally everything and in walking distance. We got a really good deal as well especially for downtown, and to top it off we lucked up and was able to park for free on the street. It's considered a boutique hotel so the room was on the smaller side but worked perfectly for my hubby and I. The bed was very comfortable and the central air worked very well. The service was nice, the employees were friendly and personable, the hotel is clean. What I didn't like was the loitering outside of the hotel, the cigarette smoking and drinking right outside, the trash outside of the hotel (complete eye sore) and the walls were paper thin. I was awaken by a couple arguing in the next room at 130am-330am in the morning, it was horrible (I hope the young lady is ok). I know some things are out of their control, I just wish the customers were a little more considerate and less tacky and trifling, such a shame... Other than that it was cool, I would stay here again but now I know what to expect. They need security or door men to make the place feel a little more safe and to try and control what's going on on their premises. I also like that you need a room key in order to access the elevators and the restrooms in the lobby. read more

The rooms were tighter but I did not expect anything more since you are getting such a great price. The location is prime and most hotels charge so much more for being in downtown. i stayed here with my two other friends (girls) for three nights and it was great! its in a great location and transportation was easily accessible from here. the staff at the front desk were all cool, we actually made friends with one of the guys. our room and bathroom was clean when we arrived. one thing that my friends and i weren't sure about was how housecleaning worked. nobody came and cleaned and replaced towels or anything. it wasn't a big deal to us to be honest, we didnt need our room to be cleaned, but i bet someone would like to know about it. our room didnt come with an ironing board and iron, but we were able to easily get it by calling the front desk. st. clair was a nice place to stay at! like i said, the location was perfect and we felt safe in the hotel. read more

There's also this feeling that much remains unfinished-lots of empty shelves. The rooms are tiny. I had to be sure to stand in the bathroom doorway; it was the only way to get enough elbow space to shave and brush my teeth. The walls are too thin. You can hear everything your neighbor says and what he's watching on tv. Plus, they failed my litmus test: if you can't afford to put an ice machine on every floor for God's sake raise your rates a couple bucks. Last, but not least, the internet is spotty and slow when it works. But then maybe that's the city. I found the internet and wi-fi sucked everywhere I went. Please God, give us people educated enough and skilled enough to lay fiber optic, and a government with the wisdom to pay to have it done. read more
