This is word for word what I just sent management.
I wasn't real impressed quite honestly. But hey, I grew up in the sticks, what do I know.
First of all, putting the fire alarm right outside of the bathroom door is a horrible location. I took a hot shower with the door shut, then got my ears ripped out when I opened the door and steam rolled out. It was either a dumb installer and/or bad room design. Wasn't real comforting that it did not alert staff either. It went off for awhile and I kept expecting a phone call or knock on the door or the alarm for the rest of the building to go off, but there was nothing. Really cannot believe that this would be the case in a supposedly modern and upscale hotel.
The rooms are not insulated well, both in terms of thermal and soundproofing. In terms of thermal qualities, I'm assuming this is primarily because of the large windows on two walls that did not seem to be insulated well. I would wake up in the middle of the night being very cold, even with every blanket on me plus a very warm hoodie sweatshirt on. I tried to turn on the window heater, but it stunk so badly that my nose got stopped up and had to turn it off.
In terms of soundproofing, I could hear conversations of people down on the street. I could hear the guy in the next room fiddling with his phone. I could especially hear what's going on in the hallway with unusual detail. It is especially odd that even with the soundproofing situation you guys advertise a 50 shades of gray package. From the things I was hearing around me, and the things I've heard about the book, I seriously doubt the two would go together well.
The room size was sufficient in a utilitarian way, but much smaller than I was expecting due to marketing pictures. The bathroom was especially small, and oddly designed, having to use a very small metal sink because you have to squeeze in between the sink and toilet to get to the shower, and there is no room for anything else. To be honest it was about the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in, even considering much cheaper ones, which is odd for somewhere that just charged me $189 on my last night. I'm sure your business would suffer greatly if this aspect was honestly disclosed up front so I can't blame you, but it was a bit of a surprise.
This is only a personal opinion but I found the hallway art on the doors to be busy to the point of feeling claustrophobic, especially since the hallway wasn't very big in the first place. The low light and grayscale vibe in the hallway plus the red lobby strangely reminded me of Beetlejuice. You can dismiss this as me being a simple minded country boy I guess. Personally speaking, I think some actual open space and nice architecture is much more impressive than cramming a bunch of door sized pictures into a small space.
The remote control to my TV was dead, or something else was wrong. I could not turn the TV on. I was more interested in hitting the town so I didn't bother reporting it, but still, you shouldn't be that out of touch.
The attached sushi restaurant was pretty nice, although slow. I've had plenty of sushi in crowded restaurants at peak times and the service was always much snappier.
The directions to a brewery given to me by the staff while registering was entirely too vague to say the least. They literally consisted of a statement of something like "it's right around the..." then pointing in the general direction while circling his finger then stopped as if it were extremely obvious. Except I wandered around for half an hour looking for it and had to come back for round two. Oh, you walk down 6th street to the mall then go up to the 4th floor? Well why didn't you say so in the first place? Was that really that hard?
Last of all, somehow you have managed to find the perfect combination of room design in order to accidentally send a roll of toilet paper unrolling through the room. Apparently I have a habit of ripping toilet paper with one hand, because usually the stuff rips off pretty easily, and usually it is secured into a holder that helps rip it off. Instead, you have this very tough commercial quality paper that is hard to rip off, you hang it on an open ended holder, have this holder pointed at the door, which goes down a step out of the bathroom. Again, dismiss this as me being an uncouth country boy. But imagine my surprise at ripping off some paper just to see it fly off the handle and bounce down the steps out into the room, unrolling the entire time.
The toilet paper placement, the fire alarm placement, odd sink placement, the very small walking room around the bed... it's just not a good room design. It's like you guys took some dorm rooms and tried to turn it into a hotel room, then called it upscale because you plastered the place with some art. Where I come from we call that "polishing a turd". read more
