I stayed at this hotel on September 2018. All was great until I was showering and slipped in the bathtub. I sustained a huge bruise on my thigh! This put a huge damper for the rest of my vacation as I was in pain. I reported incident to management/staff and suggested that slip guards should be placed in tub to prevent this from happening to someone else. I was very disappointed because I felt that some kind of compensation should have taken place! As a result months later I have a torn meniscus due to this accident! read more

I enjoyed my December stay at Hotel Max. We were able to get a room on the Sub Pop floor which includes a record player along with a few records for you to listen to. The room was co.fortable , clean and I was very happy with it. The restaurant Miller's Guild was wonderful at breakfast time, but not cheap. You have to treat yourself , sometimes, though. I would stay here again, although my husband, who has a large stomach, found the proximity of the sink to toilet, too close for his liking. Valet parking is about $35 a day. read more

Found this hotel on Expedia, in town for a business meeting. First difficulty was trying to get to the parking structure as the lane in front of the hotel is closed in the afternoon for a bike lane. That's cool but it was VERY difficult to get parked. Then the room...put the bed up against the wall and call it a train car... smallest hotel room I've ever had. Parking north of $40. And that bottle of water on your nightstand? $8. The A/C unit in the window hummed all night like a cheap motor motel. And no in-room coffee. In Seattle? Really? Went downstairs twice asking for a water glass which was finally delivered to my room. Really? OK I'm done. read more

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Seattle, WA, where we stayed at the Hotel Max on Stewart Street. Everything was great, the beds were soooo comfortable, the staff very helpful, the gym was little but totally adequate, the location was fabulous - close to everything. The only thing we didn't like was the airconditioner in the window. It was noisy even at the lowest level. It would be nice to have forced A/C. read more

boy, so yummy visually you wanna say 5 stars but... the staff was not hugely helpful, the elevator stopped working repeatedly (my mom visited me while i was staying and she had things to carry and they suggested the stairs.. to the fifth floor!), and the noise outside in the street could be heard like you were standing down there. all night. did i mention the walls were so thin we could hear the guy yawning in his bed next door? that's not all he was doing. really delicious, gorgeous arty setting, kinda disappointing otherwise. great, affordable stay if you fall into the visiting artist category, about the only break for artists left. Later: had a contact from the manager who was very sweet and helpful and explained some of the situation. i gave 4 out of 5 stars which is a pretty straightup recommendation. the room itself not to mention the artwork was worth it, not to mention location. definitely go. Even later: it's now over a year and a half since my stay and I was once again contacted by the staff of the hotel with regards to my stay, i think this goes above and beyond. changing my stars. read more

Everything here is way too tiny, I'm surprised I fit my purse with me in the elevator. They threatened to call the cops on us for noise when all we were doing was talking. No music, no tv, no partying, just talking. Good reason to never go back there. read more

My boyfriend and I arrived in town, only to have him experience one of his infamous migraines. It was just noon, and it was my job to whisk my vamp out of the sunlight and into a dark cool hotel room. What a task. I called around to different hotels, whose policies are "No Rooms til 4pm." When you are dealing with suffering and moaning, the expanse from 12-4 is an eternity. I called Hotel Max, and got my hopes up when the receptionist said he would double-check. But nope, he came back and said that my only choice was to book the room (that is, pay for it) and then show up at the hotel in the off chance that a hotel room might open up. Otherwise, we would have to wait till 4. No thanks. And concierges? Managers? Owners? Do you really believe that all travelers come to town at 4pm or later? Fairy Tale over! read more

Two words: Bloody Sheets! I wish I could post pictures on Yelp, becauseI can't describe just how disgusting it was to find bloody sheets on my bed. The only thing they offered me was an "upgraded" room. However, I didn't feel comfortable sleeping in a hotel where maybe some of the the sheets had been changed. read more

Just spent one night at Hotel Max this week, at my brother's suggestion. Cute place, small rooms and bathroom but met my highest criteria - clean and great service. Great location too. My daughter bought salmon packed for 48 hour travel. She asked if there was a refrigerator to store it. Staff turned inside out trying to accommodate her even though we said it was fine because we were leaving in the morning at 3:00 am to catch a flight. Our wakeup call at 3:00 was a friendly knock on the door. Can't beat the service. read more

The pictures are a little misleading. The room was really tiny - barely room to walk around the bed. Bathroom was really small with no counter space to put anything. The restaurant / lounge was closed for remodel - something they neglected to share when we made our reservation. The last critique was the mini bar was not stocked - just an empty fridge... Now for the positive the beds were REALLY comfortable and they were quiet. The hotel was clean and the staff super friendly... The lovely lady from housekeeping was above and beyond friendly - her hospitality should be bottled up. Now knowing what to expect I would stay again :) read more

The staff is terrific. The decor is fun. The hotel loses a couple stars from me because (considering the price per night) the bathroom is so small it's uncomfortable. It's barely standing room only - you could use the toilet, sink, and shower all at the same time. The shower about the size you would expect in an RV. read more

I loved this hotel. If we ever come back, we'll stay here. I want to say the room we got was good, but a bit small. It was next to the elevator so I think because I got the room on Priceline.com we were given that room. We had no place to put our luggage and it was missing furniture. Overall we are 99.9% happy with the experience. Everyone was great. We had free beer everyday from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Melissa was our server and she was AMAZING!!!! She was great! She is a great asset to the hotel! Sean was also friendly. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who likes modern art. We'll come back one day. read more

Love the vibe of this hotel. Great friendly staff, free drink for happy hour 5.30-6.30 and a great late night bar. Nice rooms too. With ear plugs provided for light sleepers who are not used to cities, like me. Free wifi in rooms is cool too. read more

Cute and kitschy hotel. Comfy beds but super small rooms and bathrooms barely bigger than a closet. Clean and quiet. Staff is outstanding. Limited room service menu. Bottom line: once was enough for us but if you like boutique hotels it's not bad as long as you get it for under $150/night. Not worth more. read more

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful! Jaymie checked us in and generously upgraded us within minutes. Just an hour after check in was free beer hour in the lobby which is a great idea. It brought so many people out of their rooms and into the cozy lobby with a quaint fireplace. Getting our car in and out with valet was easy. Can't thank hotel max enough for a great stay. Amazing service!! read more

I loved it here! The service desk was very helpful and friendly. The doormen were excellent in helping with luggage. The room was more spacious than we thought, which was awesome. Beautifully modern. The hotel is walking distance to most main areas (pike place market, etc). The overall place deserved the 5 stars. read more

Great location and amazing staff. I initially was pursuaded by the free beer hour and not only was the free beer a great feature, I was pleased with everything about this place. The room was small but I knew that before booking, they are very smart about how they use the space. Anytime we needed something there were multiple people ready to assist. I will definitely stay here again in the future. read more

This place is amazing! I was visiting Seattle for a long weekend vacation and I wanted to check in a little early. Abby at the front desk was there to greet me and welcome me wholeheartedly. I knew this trip was off to a great start. After a short wait I was checked into an immaculate room with a great view of the courthouse and street. As the weekend progressed I had questions of certain areas to visit where there were located. The two front doorsmen helped out at this point one Alex and I did not catch the other but both equally helpful. Also another amazing part of this place is the happy hour of pint poured local brews. My point being this trip was made even better with my stay at this hotel. 6/5 stars. read more

I am not a yelp reviewer by nature. This is my first time, but I feel compelled to share my experience in the hope that it can spare others from pain and suffering (both physical and emotional not to mention financial)...... My husband and I spent two nights on June 8 and June 9, 2016 on the way to our son's wedding at Lake Crescent. We also had two other guests staying in two other rooms and they had no problems. Despite our previously paying a deposit, upon arriving at 10 pm we learned that they had given up our room. After a 30 minute delay, they put us in their "last available" room, Room 301. Our experience during our stay at Hotel Max was very nice. The accommodations were adequate, restaurant food and service was very good, location excellent, happy hour offerings in the lobby and in the bar enjoyable etc. A few days later however, I had approximately 100 bites all over my legs. Apparently my husband is in the 30-40% of non-reactors. After arriving home and doing some on-line research, I learned I had been severely attacked by bed bugs. I contacted both Hotel Max and the place in Lake Crescent and both places denied having bed bugs. The Lake Crescent place had an extermination company come out and sent me the written evidence proving no bed bugs. They have had no previous complaints of bed bugs on the registry or any other sites. Despite this, they gave me a small credit out of good-faith on our room. In contrast, while Sean Anderson at Hotel Max has been very responsive to my emails, he continues to deny any bed bug problem in Room 301. He alleges that his housekeeping team and "engineering" team inspected, but found no evidence of bed bugs, and he claims that no one else who has stayed in Room 301 has complained of the problem. He is unable to provide me with any written evidence proving there are no bed bugs in Room 301. I am merely to take him at his word. I recently read that the Ballard News in March 2016 cited Seattle Max as one of the hotels in Seattle where more than one person has complained of bed bug problems. I believe that I am being lied to about the bed bug problem with no good faith compensation or honest acknowledgement of the problem that exists in Room 301, due to it ruining their reputation, and their having to resolve the problem by exterminating, which would be hugely inconvenient and costly. Unfortunately, by the time we realized that it was bed bugs, the bugs had already traveled with us back home in our suitcase. Four weeks later the nightmare started up again with the painful, itchy bites. We paid $3,500 for our home to be tented as it was the only sure way to rid ourselves of these critters permanently. I am left with two scars on my ankles from water blisters that developed from a highly allergic reaction to these bugs. If you choose to stay at Hotel Max, AVOID ROOM 301 at all costs, and if you experience any problems of any kind, do not expect honesty from the management. read more

NOT A GOOD HOTEL FOR THE CLAUSTROPHOBIC!!! If you are taller than 4-feet and have a waste-size of at least 20-inches, you will be uncomfortably cramped in these grossly-small rooms and elevators. This should be called the Hotel Non-Max as there is absolutely nothing "Maximum" about this hotel. From the coffin-sized elevators to the rooms that may be only big enough for circus midgets. The rooms are so small that you may as well forget about trying to have a room mate - LOL - what a joke. I can't underscore enough in this review how SMALL the rooms are. The bathroom is no bigger than a shoe-box on steriods - and the showers are so small that you have to use a shoehorn to get into them! The only saving grace here - well that, and I can't pick no-stars - was the courtesy of the valet parking person - he was totally cool. read more

My husband booked us at Hotel Max for three nights through Hotels.com. Really enjoyed our stay there. The people who work there are very friendly and professional. The room was quite small but very nicely decorated. Plus we really liked the location. It worked out great for us because we decided not to drive in Seattle and walked or used the bus. We would definitely stay there again. read more

This was on the company dime and I didn't make the reservation so it was a room. Trying very hard to be a hipster hangout but I'm far from being a hipster so their efforts were lost on me. Had one of the King rooms and yes, it was big in size but lacking in amenities. King bed was comfortable but the hum of the A/C next to the bed was distracting. No real closet, just a large wardrobe near the door. Bathroom was tiny and the towels old and cheap. Locations is pretty decent if you're going to hit the tourist places and the rail link is pretty close. Overall, I prefer the Grand Hyatt but like I said, it wasn't my choice and I wasn't paying. read more

I was with a group that occupied 3 rooms for 3 nights. Each of us had something broken in our room - hair dryer, coffee machine, etc. - despite notifying hotel staff, none of our broken items got fixed over our 3-night stay. Hotel staff - one gentleman in particular - was generally unhelpful and rude. In one instance, staff failed to make a wake-up call that someone in my party had scheduled. When we told the desk staff about the incident, they did not apologize or follow up to see what had happened (or seem to even care, for that matter). Stay someplace else. read more

Its a cool decor and the bar next door is good great sushi and good happy hour slide through if your in the area

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Very modern styling on this old landmark of a hotel. The pillow menu is a first for me in all my travels. The staff was great, Chris and Kaitlyn were especially helpful but the whole staff were great. Yes the rooms are on the small side and we were aware of this before we booked but honestly how much time are you in the room besides sleeping and showering. I also did not experience any of the funny smells that we read about. We also had a great view of the Space Needle from our room 804. The hotel is located in downtown and near every major attraction. We walked to every museum and the space needle. Pikes Place Market is merely blocks away and we spent every morning having coffee and food in the market area. You are also close to the Westlake Light Rail station so you can truly explore all that Seattle has to offer. There are a lot of great restaurants near the hotel and we suggest Blueacre and for great comfort food, drinks and conversation you are only two blocks away from Metropole restaurant. Truly one of the best travel experiences my wife and I have ever had and the Hotel Max was at the epicenter of a great time. We will go back! Ken and Laura Jacobs read more

Minor mishaps with the reservations but they fixed them promptly. The staff is amazing, very friendly and accommodating. The building is beautiful. Yes the rooms are small but it's built in the 20's. The price and the location can't be beat. Walking distance to everywhere. Thanks for being a part of our special day. Lance & Brett read more

I had spent my weekend for PAX here at Hotel Max. First of all, we attempted to explain to the staff member that we were paying separate, but he kept trying to charge the entire weekend to one card, even though we had explained that it was impossible. Thankfully a manager intervened and we were able to not charge $1500 to one card. Our next destination was the 5th floor. Lo and behold, we needed to use our keycards on the elevator to actually move up, and not only that, but it appears as if they removed 1/3 of the elevator space by adding some sort of strange wall with mirrors and handles. You could barely fit 2 people and luggage. After we made our way to the 5th floor, we realized that a double bed room is essentially that - two beds, zero floor space and a bathroom. I suppose this is what we paid for, but it was pretty pathetic. There was no cooler or fridge to put anything, and our lights kept burning out. The hotel managed to completely disable the input select on all of their TVs (we had multiple friends throughout the hotel) so we were unable to play our games that we had brought on the TVs. There is absolutely no reason to do this other than to piss off your guests. On the plus side we did get full body pillows, and the cleaning staff was very nice. Hotel Max needs to invest less in being trendy and more into practicality. There is no wayI will book this hotel again next PAX unless it is the last possible option. read more

We loved it! The staff was helpful, responsive, and they SMILED! (very rare in the service industry these days unfortunately) There was a small problem with our room smelling like the fire-grilled food cooking below (brand-spanking new restaurant still ironing out problems with the exhaust fan) but we were swiftly moved (& upgraded!) to a new room and everything else went along swimmingly! I thought it was located in the BEST spot in town for the price and quality. We would MOST CERTAINLY stay with Hotel Max again! read more

So this is a mixed review. The room is small, bathrooms tiny, though the staff is very helpful and met all my needs for the room. DO NOT TRUST THE VALET IF YOUR CHERISH YOUR VEHICLE! I stayed here the night of March 28th and had my car valeted in the hotel garage. After checkout the next morning, they brought my car around front and the dude pointed to a window of my car that was completely busted out. He asked if it was like this when I got it valeted. After I told him no, he mentioned that there was also another truck parked right beside mine with 2 windows that had gotten busted out. The garage where they valet is not secure in any way, shape or form. Anyone can just waltz on into the garage apparently, break 3 car windows and leave without a trace. On the upside, the hotel called their insurance company and are paying to replace my car window (like that was an option anyways) and I got my whopping 33 dollar valet fee refunded. All in All - this hotel is too overrated for my tastes. read more

This hotel has a fantastic location right in the heart of Downtown Seattle. The hotel staff was super friendly including everyone from the valet to the housekeeping staff. The hotel was also very clean. The downfall was the TINY room sizes. It was very difficult to function for almost a week with two people in this small of a room. We were constantly tripping over suitcases and there was just nowhere to go. We also had a noise problem with the room next door. They were up all night but even just talking at a normal tone of voice you could hear every word they were saying so I guess the walls were just really thin. Not really the hotel's fault but still affected our stay. There is also nowhere to just get a snack or drink. No vending machines or anything besides the minibar which is always overpriced. Overall a nice stay in seattle. Clean and friendly. More space would have been nice though. read more

Just stayed here this weekend and the photos on the website were way better than the actual rooms. For the cost I think that other hotel deals can be found. The plus is location, and service. Friendly staff and great location just a lot of money for not a lot of space. read more

The hotel staff was wonderful and exceeded my expectations. My girlfriend had asked if they could surprise me with a bottle of beer upon our arrival, and upon the desk in our room was the beer, chocolates, and a handwritten note. They stored our bags for us after checkout so that we could enjoy our last day in Seattle without carrying them, and treated us to Hotel Happy Hour beers when we came to retrieve the bags. The food at Miller's Guild was very good. I would definitely stay here again. read more

This place is my favorite place I've stayed. The staff is absolutely fantastic. I can't say enough amazing things about them. Best customer service I have experienced; rooms are small, but have everything necessary for your stay. Location cannot be beat; tree-lined street, little noise. I was in town last week for a wedding and had the pleasure of staying at the Max for five nights. I booked my flight and hotel package together on Expedia well in advance of my trip, so didn't give much thought to the accommodations -- having never been to Seattle, the location seemed central, the price was right, and it looked cute enough, so I went with it. My flight arrived early, so when I arrived at 1:30 p.m. I was pleasantly surprised to find my room ready for check-in well before 4:00. I must admit I was at first taken aback by the $100 deposit policy, which was news to me and I'm sure I must have overlooked on my booking confirmation. Initially I was concerned, because I spent most of my money for the trip and had a very tight budget, but the staff was professional, courteous, and accommodating in explaining the policy and finding some middle ground so I could keep my itinerary as planned. It's true, the rooms are small, but I was traveling alone and was gone with wedding plans and exploring the city from 8 am to well past 10 pm every night, so who really cares? I came home so exhausted every night I practically fell asleep the second I hit the pillow, and I'm a light sleeper so the fact that the street noise didn't wake me up says a lot. I actually found the separate "step-up" showers and washrooms to be kind of quaint and cool, in a retro sort of way -- it added to the vibe, along with the dim lighting, bright colors, and local artwork. But what really made the experience is the professionalism of the front desk, especially Melissa and Jaymie. As the groom's best man, my whole week was tied up with wedding plans, so they went above and beyond in researching package tour options to explore Olympic National Park and surrounding hiking spots in the days after the reception. I live in New York City and this kind of lifestyle was new to me, so they made terrific suggestions and clearly spent a lot of time doing this research for me, even volunteering to book the trips for me -- I'd expect this level of service from a concierge desk at a luxury hotel, so the extra touch was well appreciated. The other staff was just as professional - from the doormen always smiling and saying hello as I came in went, to the housekeeping staff striking up a friendly conversation in the elevator. All told, I'd recommend the Max to anyone. The only reason I'm docking a star is the $100 security deposit policy, which I'm still a bit confused by. I understand keeping my card number on file and billing me after the fact in the case of damage upon checkout, but to pay for it up front on top of my five-night stay seems a little silly -- just charge my card AFTER I take the M&Ms, not before, you know? Again, it's entirely possible I just overlooked this on my booking confirmation which left me unprepared, but I still don't see the point. read more

I really enjoyed this place! I stayed here a couple weeks ago while attending a conference at the Westin which is right across the street. Hotel Max has a fun vibe and I found the lobby staff to be super helpful and friendly. I also found it to be less expensive than many of the other hotels in the area. Guests can decline cleaning services per night by placing a hangtag on their door indicating such, and then receive $5 off any incidentals. I thought that was a cool incentive and used it to put toward a beer from the fridge :) I am putting 4 stars instead of 5 only because the shower is really tiny... which isn't a huge problem for me (I'm fairly small) but I wouldn't be able to bring my hubs who's much taller! Perhaps they have rooms with bigger showers though. I'd totally stay here again. read more

We planned a "Seattle Music Experience" for our son's 14th birthday with a visit to the EMP and dinner at the Hard Rock Café, this was our last stop and it was actually his favorite part! What a cool place! We were prepared for the super tiny rooms and the wall unit air conditioning so overall it was the coolest experience. Tips! They have free craft beer at 5:30 - get there early or there is no place to sit! Request the Sub Pop Floor so you can sample music the old school way - on a record player! We laughed so hard because our son was blown away that 'music came out of that thing'. And yes, as the other reviews have stated, the beds are amazing! They don't miss a beat with every unique detail, down to the gum ball machine in the lobby with their logo on the gum balls! We will definitely stay again. If you are dealing with a sullen teenager and want to show them that yes, their parents are in fact not dorks, this is the great place to stay! read more

We stayed here our first night in Seattle. Great decor and super friendly staff! Rooms were great, we had a nice little corner room with windows all around giving us the perfect Seattle backdrop. Great location only 10 min walk to Pikes place. We really enjoyed the complimentary happy hour with free draft beer. Only downside, $45 dollar valet parking. Which would be okay if they let you know that's the only option as there is no self parking available. Combine that with the usage fees added on and we ended up paying $70 per night more than we thought we would. Overall I love staying in boutique hotels there so much more eclectic than chains but for these prices I would of stayed at the Westin across the street. read more

Absolutely awful. We pulled up to an empty valet booth upon arrival. Had to ask the desk to call the valet, which took 30 minutes. We received nothing but attitude from the check in staff. Room was far smaller then advertised, finishes look like they would be better off hiring a 5th grade shop class. And as a contractor I can't believe out bathroom is compliant with code as it had a 13" step up into it. After which the ceiling was under 7'5". Then had to wait for checkout. I've now been sitting on the curb waiting for the valet for 12 minutes just to leave. read more

Staff was nice, but this place is very over priced and the rooms are ridiculously small. The shower stall was barely even large enough to stand in.
