The nightmare begins on a Friday. We check in.
Front desk agent is a delightful and friendly female who just started Monday. We like her. After some nice banter, we head to our room.
Our room is the size of a large walk in closet. It's comfortable enough. I see right away that there's hair stuck all over the bathroom wall and ceiling. We go back to the front desk.
The delightful female gives us an "upgrade". We're happy with the prospect and feel lucky that she's so nice.
Our new room is slightly bigger with a decent view. But - why are all the bed pillows stacked on chair? Well, ok, no biggie, housekeeping just forgot the final touches. The bathroom is a hoot! It's in two separate tiny rooms! Yeah! One has the shower, and the other has the toilet and sink. When you sit on the toilet your knees touch the door. Weird, but ok, it's part of the fun. There is a single tiny glass shelf to put my bathroom items on. Everything just comes spilling off it and into a sink that looks like a metal mixing bowl. The unwiped walls are so close to the sink that bathroom gunk is stuck to it. I wiped it up because I didn't want the front desk to think we're were trying to complain our way to the penthouse. The room also has NO real dresser or place to put your things. There's a unit with the tv on it, and it's got two tiny drawers and a mini fridge. The fridge is packed full with beverages for sale, so we can't fit our own stuff in it. These rooms are truly too small to be packed full of mini bar stuff.
We come back tired and ready to relax in bed. We turn it down, only to find it hasn't actually been made! We didn't notice. There's no sheets! Just the blanket on top and a pad over the mattress. Again, we have to make a trip to the front desk. For our inconvenience they give us a credit for $30 to enjoy at the hotel bar. They said just charge it to the room and it'll be credited. They told us they were sending someone ASAP. And they did, a man arrived to help, but the poor guy was not a member of housekeeping. He is very nice and apologetic. But he only brought one sheet. We need two, and we ask for new pillowcases too because at this point we don't know if the bed was actually clean when we got there. He went to go get more stuff and we ended up making our own bed. At this point, I am really starting to get irritated at the whole BS situation! The guy has assured us that he would tell the general manager about what went on.
Can I also mention we paid $450.00 to stay in an ill prepared closet and make our own bed?
Exasperated, we decided to go have a beer at the hotel bar. I ask the waiter, "Do you have a hazy IPA on tap?" He just nods, "Sure, sure, IPA, I'll go see which one is more hazy". Wait, what? Does he think I'm being funny? He is a Seattle bartender, and the hotel has a craft beer hour - does he NOT know what a hazy IPA is?
He comes back with two beers, sets them down, saying "Hazy, and less hazy". Ummm. No. No. No. Im positive he just gave me whatever IPA they had on tap. These two beers, tax, plus a $4 service fee to charge to the room, and tip, took almost all our complimentary $30 credit. TWO BEERS???? This was seriously the final straw. At this point I conjured up a mental image of myself throwing a stool through the glass window and getting arrested. The thought actually makes me smile. In the end, the bed was actually pretty comfortable and we slept late.
I was ready to wake up Saturday and check out, instead of staying until Sunday as planned. I was so steamed. I was going to DEMAND a full refund. My husband talked me down. He's so good at that. We made a point of staying away from our hotel as long as we could, so we didn't have to be in it. The whole place felt like the twilight zone. I changed our Sunday train tickets from 2pm to 730am, just so we could go home as soon as possible.
Never again. Never. I have such a bad taste in my mouth. I wish I had a hazy IPA to wash it down. read more
