    Indy's own Hotbox Pizza!
    Richard P.

I was driving around the Castleton/Fishers area tonight hoping to find something a little different for dinner. While I've been to HotBox before, I'd never been to this Fishers location and decided to check it out. This Hotbox is located in a strip center. It's a bit of an older center but there are accessibility parking spots in 2-3 different places along with curb cuts. I parked down in front of Main Event, a bar and grill, and wheeled over to HotBox. This location has a decor that is fairly consistent with other HotBox spots I've been in. They do offer dine-in, though that seems to not be the majority of their business as I saw mostly carry-out going on. I ordered at the counter. I appreciated that an employee moved their menu down a bit so that I could see it in my wheelchair. HotBox Pizza is, of course, a pizza joint. During the day, they have some lunch and slice options, though this seems to go away at night. That makes it a bit rough for a single person like myself who didn't really want a whole pizza. However, I saw that they had a "create your own" option and I ordered a small pepperoni pizza. I also ordered a fountain drink, though I was disappointed they didn't have iced tea. They did have lemonade. I got my lemonade - I've always liked that their cups are easily reusable. The fountain dispenser was a little high but workable. My guess is the pizza took about 15 minutes. I wasn't paying attention and they did bring it to me. So, kudos for that. I can definitely say this was the best HotBox pizza I've had. The crust was slightly crispy, the pepperoni distribution sublime, and the overall pizza just really hit the spot. It was sliced into 8 modestly sized slices. I had no trouble finishing the pizza, though I'd not had a lot to eat today. The price was right around $14 for the pizza and drink. It's fairly close to market rate I'd say. HotBox is an Indiana chain with a little over 20 locations all in Indiana. They offer a rewards program and also are known for their generous fundraisers for non-profits. The absence of iced tea, the lack of a truly decent individual meal option, and a slightly, well, dirty dining room have me leaning toward a 4-star rather than a 5-star. However, it's a struggle here because that pizza was truly tasty. So, I'll likely return and see if I can fork over that 5th star. Employees are friendly and helpful - some masked, some not as the state opens up and more and more vaccinated folks go mask-free. This definitely hit the spot and I would definitely return.

New cheese sauce is trash. Tastes like they put broccoli water in it. Pizza was ok.

The menu consists of Antipasti, pasta, salads, and pizza. They also have desserts of tiramisu, cannelloni and cheesecake. We ordered the Amanti Della Carne pizza. It consisted of mozzarella, pepperoni, homemade sausage, signature, tomato sauce, ham, and mortadella. All pizzas are 12 inch and thin crust. Our pizza was $17. We also ordered the spring salad for $7. It consisted of spring mix, tomatoes, and homemade balsamic vinaigrette. The spring salad was good. The lettuce was fresh and nicely seasoned with the dressing. We really liked the homemade balsamic dressing. The pizza was very good and had a lot of toppings. As mentioned there is no variety or choice of size. The pizza only comes in a 12 inch, which was eight slices. Also, there is no choice of crust thickness. It is all a reasonably thin crust. Not a cracker thin crust, but thinner than most pizzas. We really liked it. The table next to us ordered pasta. They said it was delicious. They asked our server if the pasta was made fresh in the house. The server replied that it was. Service was very good, friendly, and prompt. It appears they do a big takeout business as while we were dining we saw several people come in and pick up pizzas to go. We recommend if you were in the area

I went super basic and just got a cheese pizza, as I am a pretty basic eater. When I walked in, I was greeted happily and they were super helpful. I took the pizza to go, but there was plenty of nice seating inside. The pizza was cooked very well. Crispy but not too crispy. The sauce tasted great. All in all, I thought this was a very solid option for true pizza in Fishers and hope this place does great!

The crust and dough have an incredible texture and crunch. The sauce was fantastic. They sprinkle on some of the topics (basil) after it's cooked to make sure it stays fresh and not soggy. Even before the barstool review this has been on my list to try just from the tons of positive Google reviews. The people that complain about the wait time are missing the point - it's that popular and in demand and a small pizza shop. If you have any ounce of patience, use it and order ahead so you can try it. It's on the expensive side. All said, it's still well worth it. The pizzas are huge and very authentic New York. Hamilton county has tons of pizza places with brick oven doughy crust, but not like this New York style one. It's crusty and thin, but not doughy. Super airy and flakey - by the time you get to the last bite of the crust it's honestly messy and crumbs are everywhere. You could scrape the bottom of the pizza and hear that crackle. The tomato sauce seemed like true tomatoes, not a sauce with a bunch of additions. The Parmesan on top gave it some saltiness too. We had onions, sausage, and pepperoni toppings - they don't overload them, it's like the right amount to be able to appreciate the pizza as a stand alone and the toppings. It's locally owned too and from the interviews I've seen, you can tell they just care about making great pizza and keeping it as simple as that. Overall, I'm impressed. I'd recommend if you're a foodie and appreciate good food.
