I am a long time resident of the area, and the owner of this place is the rudest, nastiest person. Yells at customers and potential customers, he'll even yell at his wife while customers are trying to eat inside his business - don't dare critique the food or you'll get an earful from him. There's no BBQ items on the menu despite it being a "BBQ" place. Fish fry is greasy and gross and the pizza is cardboard. If you're visiting the area I encourage you to make the trip over the mountain and enjoy better service and food. read more

Ok its the only restaurant in Picture Rocks (that I know of) and we have been coming here regularly now that they know us. Its only 10 mins from our house to the Silverbell and Twin Peaks area where a few other places to eat exist, but I think this place is beating them on variety of menu and quality of food. Fridays are "Endless Fish Fry" dinners for $10 and the wife gets this regularly. I snuck a couple of bites and keep saying I'm going to get it too but I keep ordering the BBQ Ribs which have more meat on them than any ribs I've ever seen. And they give your table a squirt bottle of BBQ sauce so that's a big plus! Now the 12 yr old eats like a bird usually but he had the BBQ Brisket sandwich last night and ate the whole thing. Now this sandwich was definitely adult in size and he devoured it. And he is not that fond of barbecue so I know he loved it. Lil Miss, the 5 yr old, who is a chicken only diner, ordered the Chickeroo from the kids menu. She is a connoisseur of chicken tenders and this place exceeds her standards because she ate it all. One area for improvement is the dessert fare. Last night we had ice cream in a cone, ice cream in bowl and chocolate cake for choices. It was adequate but they could learn from Cattleman's Cafe ;-) hint hint. Bottom line is that we find ourselves going here more often. Just a note from me, a 5 yr Elite reviewer, the fish is NOT greasy and it is NOT tilapia. I'm ordering it next time for sure and as many of you know, I used to live in N'Awlins for 21 yrs, definitely one of the many seafood capitals of the world. Should be zero stars. I stopped going here years ago because of poor service, bad food, dirty restaurant and owners attitude. My wife and I actually tasted our food paid the bill and walked out. The owner followed us out and was rude to us because we did not eat what we were served. It was terrible and we just wanted to leave. Well fast forward to now.... they have been getting some positive feedback and people have said they changed so decided to try them again. What a mistake... tried the pizza a few weeks ago and it was terrible. Small, sparse toppings and tasted like cardboard. Tried the carne asada tacos today and they were impossible to eat. Full of gristle and bland. I wouldn't serve the meat to my dog. This area needs a decent restaurant but this place needs to go. Our first visit was on an 'Endless Fish Friday' night and we had a great time. Sheri was entertaining, the fish was excellent, crisp, HOT and very tasty, the fries are thick, hot and very good-with personable service. The salads are just basic House salads. Nothing fancy, but are fresh and crisp. I just wish they'd serve them in fluted bowls, as the small ones they use now tend to put salad on the table once you stick your fork in it. SInce it was an overall excellent experience, we made a dinner date for the following week with the same excellent experience with the Lumpia, pulled pork sandwiches-very good to excellent. On our 3rd visit, we went with another couple in tow. The service was lacking. The personable young man waiting on us, kept us waiting (see what I did there?), wandering past our table several times without checking in on us, even with empty cups and plates placed out in front like a placard requesting service. However, even the best places and people have their off times and moments. If the service lacks in similar manner again, I'll address it directly with the waiter, but we were also busy having fun, so nothing tragic, plus the food was still excellent. Here's a newsflash people: HS-BBQ isn't in the NY Times 5-star dining guide for AZ. As another reviewer aptly stated: this isn't the kind of BBQ place one tends to think of when they hear BBQ. This should be obvious to anyone driving past the place, or at least once they walk through the front door-even if they're not from Texas. It's a local, casual, come-as-you-are, eclectic family restaurant that serves very good to excellent food and at very reasonable prices. There are no pretensions here, unless you bring them with you. This is how a 1st grader would describe their experience. What does "terrible" even mean to you? What if you like your eggs runny and they had the audacity to actually cook them? Fish and Chips , this was the 1st time we had order from here. We really liked their fish and chips. Can't wait until the finish remodeling the restaurant. They only have carry out orders now. But hopefully soon we can eat in the restaurant. It's will be a great place for Picture Rocks residents to have a nice restaurant in our little community. read more

This place has some real good eats! Pizza special only on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Stirfry only on Thursdays. All good, but their regular menu (available always) is good too. Fall off the bone ribs, and great burgers... Can get pretty busy, but the food is that good. Some days they have live entertainment, others they have karaoke. read more

Between my stints in South Mississippi and Texas, my expectations for BBQ are very high. The Ribs seemed to have more fat than meat. And I like the fat because it adds flavor. It was nearly equal fat to meat, which is unusual for ribs. The meat fell off the bone but lacked any distinctive flavor. The pork sandwhich was decent. Nothing special. Im not positive, but the BBQ sauce tasted like KC Origional. My father in law got a Ruben. It was bad. Real bad. The fried mushrooms were out of a store bought bag. If I wanted frozen food I would go to the grocery store. I go out to eat at small non chains specifically for fresh local taste. Unfortunately, you wont find that here. read more

Just as bland and poor quality cooking and ingredients as the first time. The first time we went for breakfast, potatoes were greasy and scrambled eggs were terrible. The second after about one year and a half we went for dinner and ordered pizza. It was just ok considering it tasted just like any frozen pizza you buy at the grocery store, nothing special. Okay, 6 of us just took a drive Saguaro National Park to watch the sunset and it was amazing! So on the drive back we stopped here for the first time for supper. Two ordered the brisket sandwich two ordered the BBQ ribs and two ordered the half rack of ribs. The one thing we all had in common was that we all had marvelous meals! This place is a hidden gem. Small in size but big in every other way! Great waitress, great chef, that came out himself three times to see how we liked our meal and then to top it off there is a dance floor with a great DJ. We had smoked pork sandwiches and pulled pork for dinner. The food was delicious with a great smoked flavor, served quickly and courteously and a very good price. $30 for 3 people. We recommend you give this place a try. In my opinion the harsh reviews preceding this one are unwarranted. I even discussed them with our server and she admitted things were rough in August. The place had just opened and they were still figuring out what they were doing. Everyone in Picture Rocks complains about not having a restaurant. Now we have one, give them a try. Wasn't sure what to expect, as the place is small and we went during an off-time (Saturday around 2:30). I had the BBQ pulled chicken and my mother had the BBQ pulled pork, both with fries. The meat was very tender and juicy as it sat atop a delicious and soft bun. The barbecue sauce was good, but I wish there had been more of it (though this is probably just preference). The waitress was very nice and made sure we didn't need anything while we ate, while still giving us enough space to enjoy our meal and not feel hovered over. Stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We were the only ones there. We live just 1.5 miles from the restaurant and had never been in. Boy were we missing a good thing. The breakfast was very good and the portion size was perfect. Under $11. Can't beat that. We'll be going back in the future, first to try the Friday night fish fry. Had dinner the 2nd night open. Took over 40 minutes to get our meals, and the service was the worst I ever had! People came in after us, but got their food long before we did!!!! Waitress kept saying it will be out in 5 minutes, didn't refresh our drinks, didn't bring my wife's salad until after she brought the meal, and then only because my wife had to ask for it!!! My burger was over cooked and mushrooms were cold on it! My wife talked me into giving it another try, so we went for lunch the following weekend. Very few people were there, maybe 6 when we went in, but it still took over 35 minutes to get out meal! The prices are too high, and the food is not that great! I can get a better burger from In&Out for less than half the price! Maybe someday, someone with real restaurant experience will open a good place to eat out in Picture Rocks, but this isn't it! First of all...this is not really a BBQ place like ya may think. There were two "BBQ" items on menu, a pulled pork sandwich and a pulled chicken sandwich. The rest of the menu was burgers, BLTs, etc.. There is a big BBQ out back but I didn't see any evidence of it being in actual use (although not until we were leaving)--So a little surprising since we were expecting to stop for BBQ. Nonetheless, Service was really good...jackrabbit delight salad was really fresh and yummy especially with their housemade honey mustard. My son's burger came out wrong the first time but was promptly replaced and he loved it. Not sure I'd pay 8.99 for it again but it does not discourage me from coming again. Fantastic local picture rocks restaurant. We just moved to the area and are happy to have this establishment down the road from us. The owners are extremely nice and made every effort to make us comfortable on their outside patio with our dog. We had the reuben and BBQ brisket sandwich which were great, very southern comfort food style, I really enjoyed their fries too, plus they let us try their fish fry which was also tasty. Ate here again, previous visit we both had hamburgers. Both were wonderful, and fries were good as well. Tonight's visit wasn't quite so good. My wife tried the Reuben sandwich, greasy and the meat was flavorless, also the meat in a Reuben should be sliced very thin, this was quite thick. I had the burrito with pork. Greasy was the first problem. A real lack of seasoning made the meat even worse. Come folks we live in the southwest, some cumin, garlic and some chilies would really improve the pork. The salsa that was on the side was really quite sad, again a little cilantro and some other spices would go along way. We were on vacation and our rental was within a mile of this place. On our first evening we were too exhausted from the travel day and didn't feel like going a long way. I had a burger, which was one of the smallest I've ever had in a restaurant. The fries were basic. Don't remember what my husband had, but it was also mediocre. It's very much a local place, which is fine, it was just not all that comfortable for us. The waitress was adequate. They also had a woman singing songs from the 60's and 70's, my musical era, but she was pretty mediocre. We hope to return to the rental, but will not be eating here again. read more

The first time my husband and I ate here, we ate in side. The food was very "no frills" and the prices did not match the quality of the food. My hamburger patty reminded me of something I should be having at home, like as in a Walmart hamburger patty!? Not a hamburger I just paid for in a supposed restaurant to eat. The second time we ordered, we called in our order for pick up, OMG! The burrito I specifically asked for a certain way, was NOT done that way at all, and my husband's so called Snitzel is a disgrace to be called traditional German in any way, shape or form! It looked more like a oil bathed Eggplant patty! Even when you smelled it, it was odd, and they call this traditional German Snitzel! NO WAY. This was definatly TWO STRIKES and they are OUT. It's a shame though, a new place to eat, so close would be more than welcomed, but unless these people realize what they are serving is nothing most people will want to pay their $$ for, because it tastes like crap, or is something they could have made at home, or worse yet, something that should not even be served at all, I don't see them staying open long. read more
