The shop accommodated our difficult schedule and all the staff were great. Bobby's teaching style was comprehensive, yet relaxed enough that we enjoyed every day. He was able to coach me through some difficulty with 1 of the skills with incredible patience. We learned more from Bobby than any other instructor we have had, and had fun while doing so. Our family of 4 took a Discover Scuba class with Gia at Horizon Divers earlier this week, and now we're hooked! The front desk was very flexible about getting us scheduled on a day that worked with our time in the Keys. All the dive equipment, wetsuit, mask, fins etc was included and great quality. After a brief morning pool session going over how to operate all the gear and basic underwater hand signals, we went out for 2 afternoon dives. Gia was a great instructor and guide, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for dive instruction or as a guide. Very happy with the whole experience at Horizon Divers. read more

I had a great time with Horizon Divers. It was my first time diving with their operation but it felt like old times :-) Their dive shop and charter boats are very well run and they provide great support for rebreather divers which is something I was looking for. I was able to rent CCR cylinders and bailout bottles from them without any issues. I dove the Northern Light on their charter boat Pisces. Dan was running an OC trimix course and was nice enough to let me tag along behind their group. Capt. Jame absolutely nailed the drop and we drifted perfectly into the wreck. Biff was crewing and she did an awesome job of helping everyone gear up. I also did a double dip on the Duane aboard the Cheeca View and was able to get a nice 90 minute run time before I got too cold. I will be definitely be diving with them again next time I'm in Key Largo.. read more

These guys were great. Very professional and clean. Well organized. Nice large boat and knowledgeable crew. My son dropped our go pro half way through our dive and the Captain spotted it. Then after everyone got on the boat, the captain had one of the crew, Bobby, swim to catch the GoPro. At this point it was 200 yards away. We were blown away at the service and hospitality. We dove for two days with Horizon Divers. Just comparing it to other areas we've dived, and not to other dive operations in Key Largo, I'd give it a pretty good review. It is not as full service as other areas are, but their prices do reflect that. We needed rental gear and the gear they provided was in fair condition. We had to trade back a few things with failed o-rings and such, the shorties were tired and worn out. The boat was nice and meant to carry about 16-20 divers. We had fewer both days which lent some elbow room. The covid thing is still a big deal down here as opposed to our area in St Petersburg FL, and masks were required by all until we left the main channel and dock. The way they do it down here, is you get a boat ride to the reef or wreck, they describe what's down there, give you an hour, then you take yourself diving. Guides are extra. They recommend you surface halfway through to locate your boat so you can get back. Not a big deal if you are experienced, but may be a bit challenging for new divers. The reef itself was in fair condition with a lot of reef restoration going on. Visibility was about 30-50 feet. The crew onboard were friendly enough and helped you back aboard and offered assistance to switch over gear to new tank if you needed it. Amenities onboard included drinking water, fresh water rinse for cameras and masks, defog spray for masks and a marine toilet. There was a dry area for your things as well. The crew kept to the schedule and we departed and returned on time. We'll dive with them again when we are in Key Largo. read more

Ok, let me start by saying I don't work for any competitor dive shops and I have no alterior motives here. Just sharing info with you to help make decisions. I have been diving for about 8 years. I'm not a dive master but I have dove in many countries and with many dive operations. I'll also add, for context, that I'm not one of those guys that just complains about anything. I'm sure you know the type....they win the lotto but it's not enough. That's NOT me. In short, I did not like this place. I did 6 dives over 2 days so I got a good flavor for how they operate. Boat - the boat was fine. Standard dive boat. The main problem was that it was PACKED....and I mean ever seat was taken. I've been on busy boats but this was another level. there were 30+ people on this puppy and it made it hard to move around. The staff - Again, I was not impressed. Everything was rushed. We got a late start & the entire morning was rushed. The briefing was rushed....and it felt like they were herding cattle. They did not take the time to get anyone's name....it was just push them out and get them back in. Also, they limited the dive to 1 hour from the time the boat shut down. So, if people in front of you were slow, you were cut short on your dive. They did this both in the morning and afternoon. Last, the staff was not helpful. When getting out of the boat, my dive partner had to help get my fins and get me back into the stall. Of all of the dives I've done, this was the least helpful staff. I will say though that Andy, the guy mentioned in another review, was a great dude. He was helpful and friendly. This boat was too packed, the dives too short and the staff not very helpful. If you're an experienced diver, this is probably not the dive boat for you. I wish I could recommend another dive shop in Key Largo but this was the only one I used because I got a discount for diving for 2 days. I recommend asking around at some dive sales shops. There are a few in town that don't do dive trips....they just sell stuff. Request - if you use yelp, please take some time to write a review - good or bad. My background, I;m not Associated with any dive shop in FL and I am a DM. with well over 300 dives. I used to DM back in Southern California so I know what should and shouldn't happen on a boat. Ill just do a quick echo of Paul G. because his description was right on the dot! If you expect any service DO NOT DIVE HERE!, if you want just a ride then this is the boat for you! The Boat, It was good enough, to do a dive, nothing particular stunning with any special accommodations, I do have to give them a little bit here if they had half stars it would be a 1 and a half cause when we went they were obviously slow and it was about 15 people on a 30 person boat. The Diving, for what it was Shallow reef's and a deep wreck it was alright, nothing spectacular but there was the few interesting things. the vis. was 40ish ft but there are lots of bits in the water from the gulf stream making photography very difficult. The Staff, Well let me start off by saying thank you too two people, Karl the Captin / Instructor, and Dustin the Instructor. these were the only two people that treating me or my family with any respect and stopped me from walking away from the company completely. The Shop staff seemed out of sink with everything. I asked what dives that I was doing (As we were leaving) and they couldn't tell me and this is after when we arrived they demanded that we tell them ahead of time what boats and time we would be on. I was HIGHLY OFFENDED by Captin. Troy Wheatley. In addition to missing safety briefing on where the Life raft, O2 and life jackets were, he was very obnoxious and unhelpful, Captin Mike thought grabbing you by the tank and dragging you to your seat was his job when repeatedly told that I am fine please stop. There was Zero question asked it was just assumed that everyone had just finished there first open water course and needs to be told and dragged all over the place, but still some how they managed to include only the negative parts and none of the helpful information or assistance. The closet I got was they took my camera from me when I handed it up to them and dropped it in the camera bucket The Guest Services, Lets just say I have been to 40+ dive shops and operations and this was one of the most unorganized places I have seen. No baskets for any of your gear, The guest storage is in a shed with no lockers and is basically a free for all. You put your gear along with their rentals so anyone can take anybody's gear and no one would know. On the boat they have water a Capri Sun, which from my dive history is very limited, your paying 60-75$ of a morning give a little to your clients. Nitrox This is a joke, A) 12$ EXTRA (most places are 5$) B) Couldn't even request a percentage, AND they couldn't tell me what they had. it's just what ever is available. So if you want my opinion it's very simple, the only thing they have good and only sometimes is a bigger boat. outside of that DON'T EXPECT A THING! Also if you haven't looked and found the type of diving at key largo, the only places this company goes to is shallow (less than 40ft, mostly 20ft reefs) and deep wrecks(130ft), don't expect any walls or drift or anything else. read more

still.... at that cross roads of a 3.5 and a full fledged 4! The boat to Spiegel Grove left a little later than what Im used to for dive boats (10 AM departure rather than the early ass 9AM) There were very few people on the boat and the service was regular to good. The crew was helpful and nice. Did they go above and beyond? No. My dives were on weekdays so perhaps thats why the boat was empty-- 15 divers MAX MAX The boat was well equipped for divers and I have no beef with that at all. Plenty of tanks, O rings a plenty, an AED, Oxygen and waters, capri suns and fruits for all. Five stars? No. Theyre missing that SOMETHING that puts them above and beyond. No one needed a rescue so I cant say how ready the staff is to jump in or how fast they are to get the rope out. I do plan to dive with them again and I trust them enough. read more

Great place to go diving. The captain and the dive master were great. Friendly and helpful. Took us to some great spots. We got to see some turtles and one of our divers saw a hammerhead shark. A lot of nice reefs and colorful fish. Oh and I also saw an eel hiding. There was a lot of surge but the captain handles his boat well. Ready for my second day of open water today. read more

My grandpa and 2 cousins and I signed up for our 4 open water dives to get certified here. While I was disappointed that we went through the same stuff in the pool as we did back in MN (we did our pool portion a few months earlier) it was nice to have a refresher. I wish we would have done all the certification with HD! It was much quicker and our instructor Kurt was better than our instructors at home. Once we got out into the water our first site had some small jellyfish which freaked us girls out but Kurt helped us get down past them and the rest was awesome. Each subsequent dive got better and better! All the staff on the boat were AWESOME! Big thanks specifically to our instructor Kurt, and Master Diver Andy who were able to wrangle my grandpa (70yrs old) and help him become more comfortable with diving. I look forward to diving in the future and hopefully again with Horizon Divers if we make it back to Key Largo! read more

I'm giving horizon divers three stars. 5 for the boat crew and dive Masters, bur subtracting two for the shady business operations. As others have reported, horizon divers likes to charge what they call a guide fee. In my 10 years of diving, at at least 40 different operations, I've never heard of such thing. Normally the price you pay for a dive includes the fee for a divemaster. This is supposed to be part of what the $85 you paid to dive is for. However I was told since I didn't have a buddy with me, and none were available on the boat, I would have to pay. However when I got to the boat there were at least 20 other divers. Including one from my hometown, who also paid the fee. Making it very curious as to why we could not have been paired up and not been both charged a fee. I'm glad horizons collected the extra $25 they must have desperately needed. But I will never use them again, when in the area. Which means they lose money in the long run read more

Dani could not have been more professional, nurturing and thorough. We were so blessed to have found Horizon. I had been out of diving for almost 4 years. After taking a quick refresher course, I did 4 dives with Horizon Divers over two days. Being 65 and out of diving for 4 years, I was nervous. The folks at Horizon Divers did everything possible to make me feel welcome and took their time to help me. My dive guide, Hugh, took particular interest in helping me figure out the right amount of weight. He made my dives much less stressful and more enjoyable. After the 1st two dives, I was again very relaxed and had a wonderful time. I couldn't ask for anything else from Horizon Divers, the boat crew and Hugh. Such a fun activity to do when down in the keys. Captain Jeff gave clear and quick instructions, and we began snorkeling. 12 out of 10 experience. The water is beautiful, the reefs are even more beautiful. We went to two different reefs, we stayed at each one for about an hour each. They let us swim where we wanted as long as we didn't go too far from the boat! I will definitely recommend this business to anyone looking to snorkel/dive! read more

We were sent here from another shop that allegedly forgot to write down our reservation and wasn't sending a boat out. It was our first time snorkeling in the Keys and for two of us ever. Our day was almost ruined but it turned out fantastic all because of the staff at Horizon. Staff spent lots of time with us, we're incredibly friendly and patient, and really prepared us for what would come. We have nothing to compare to but the cooler and ice water and Capri suns were great after snorkeling. The personal attention of the staff and friendliness made our first trip fantastic. They took the time to explain everything on the boat, what fish we would likely see, and unlike another reviewer they did get to know our names. We will definitely go back. read more

Second diving trip with this company. Great company that really takes care of their guests and makes sure everyone is having a good experience. We dove 11 dives on our trip and had a wonderful time with a nice variety of diving locations. The crew took the time to explain each dive spot, what to look for and what to expect. An extra that was very nice. On the last day after a full day of diving we cleaned our gear at the dock. Went to the dive shop just a few minutes away and was able to clean off with a quick shower before heading on the road. Nice clean way to end the dive trip. Lots of fun. I will be back. read more
