Great folks! When the weather wasn't ideal for a snorkel trip, Quiescence called in advance to discuss and offer a free cancellation. We ended up just having a relaxing, private inland booze cruise and had a great time! They offer a smaller, more private operation that is first class (max is 6 people per boat). This is a top notch dive charter! We booked with short notice for the lionfish derby tournament. Captain Lad and Luke were unbelievable! My son is a fairly new diver, and Luke was very attentive. It was comforting to know he was there. The boats are roomy and handled the 4 ft seas well. Easy to dive from and we never felt rushed. They took us to their best spots and we ended up WINNING the tournament with the most lionfish! The crew seemed more like our friends than a dive boat crew and they were so accommodating. We've logged 100 more dives since the last time we dove Key Largo as new divers. Quiescence still stands out as one of the best dive operators we've experienced, living up to memory as safe, professional, friendly, helpful, and efficient (I even got a same-day regulator repair at the shop -thanks, Lou!). The whole process is idiot-proofed, ensuring as much as possible a safe and enjoyable experience. The waiver goes beyond legal ass-covering with brief yet clear reminders on maintaining buddy teams and DCS and expansion injury prevention. The boat stays docked until it's clear that everyone has all of their gear (which takes no extra time), and everyone signs a boat manifest that lists, one more time, safety precautions every diver needs to follow. After checking to see if there were specific sites we wanted to dive, the captains chose sites for our twilight dives that were beautiful, calm, and easy to navigate (thanks, Chris, Steve, and Dave). After a relaxed hour underwater with the low-angle sun making the fish glow, each day finished with a boat ride into the sunset. read more

Brought someone here to do PADI Open water checkout dives with instructor Adam. He was amazing. Very knowledgeable, nice, and friendly. Made sure the student was really prepared and made the checkout dives exciting while completing all the requirements! We also did a guided dive with Kailey and she was terrific too. We saw a spotted eagle ray, tarpon, huge barracudas, and many many more. The small dive boat (6 max) keeps things friendly and inviting. Im sure Quiescence will cater to veteran divers but i can only speak for our group of beginners. I am not certified, But simply take the resort course each time i go.. i doubt you will find a better experience if you are trying scuba for the first time, or are trying to introduce someone to scuba. Their training tank was perfect for my apprehensive sister and my girlfriend to learn w tanks on in an unintimidating environment. My sister actually has panic attacks so our hopes were not to high.. Fast forwarding we are back home and i got a text last night from my sister that she is planning our next dive trip.. We all want to thank our instructor Luke, for his over the top patience with our group. I doubt you will find anyone, anywhere, better than Luke to introduce someone to scuba. I wish I could give ten stars. I could not have asked for a more perfect snorkeling experience. We were assigned Captain Steve, a professional, accommodating, and knowledgeable guide. Our first stop was a calm spot, great for beginners. The kids and I went out, but I spent most of my time worrying about the kids, looking around for them, snorkeling not more than 30 seconds at a time. It was stressful. When I got back on the boat, I told Captain Steve that I could hardly enjoy myself because my mama-bear instincts were in full force. What happened next was amazing. Captain Steve assured me that I had nothing to worry about and that he will keep a hawk eye on the kids. At the next site, any time I picked my head up to see where the kids were, I would see Captain Steve perched up on the side of the boat (like a super hero) pointing at where each child, telling me who was where. I became increasingly comfortable and was able to truly relax and enjoy myself. The children would get on and off the boat with his assistance. When they were on the boat, he kept them entertained (my kids are really chatty). Captain Steve provided the ultimate concierge experience. As for the snorkeling, there were times I felt like I was in the middle of an exotic aquarium. The water was a warm 75+ degrees. I saw three gigantic stingray! (Probably goes without saying but) because it was a private charter, we were able to go wherever we wanted and move at our own pace. Again, Captain Steve was an excellent host and followed our lead. Also, the price is very reasonable. As for COVID precautions, Quiescence is thorough. I asked about their precautions and they walked me through their process. Captain Steve had his mask on the entire time. We felt very comfortable. If Quiescence weren't booked up for the rest of the week, I would cancel the rest of my vacation plans and spend every day with them. This has truly been the highlight of our trip. read more

We were sent to this dive shop via our home shops recommendation. We were very happy with the service and professionalism the entire staff gave us. We felt just like we were at our home base they called us by name ( sure they had a sheet with it on but still they remembered later) They helped get our gear in order and between the dives the captain had already switched our bc and regulator over so we were ready to dive when we reach the dive site. The boat captain took suggestions as to where to go dive and accommodated the small group. He reviewed each dive site and told us the best features and the correct hints for navigation to return to the boat. We highly recommend this group and we will use them again. read more

Very friendly and professional team. From the moment we stepped into the store to sign in for the day, to getting fitted for bcd's, weights and tanks, to our Captain, everyone was very pleasant! The boat is small, six divers, so no cattle call boats - which is great. Rental equipment is in great shape. They also have neutral buoyancy tanks, which was awesome. It was our first time diving with these types of tanks and you don't have to worry about your buoyancy as you use your air. There were six of us on the boat for the day. We had about a 20 minute ride out to Molasses Reef. The water was nice and we had good visibility. We saw a variety of fish and turtles and it it made for a good day of diving. The only thing I would have done differently would be to ask for a guide. The two dives we had this day we we on our own,so we came up a couple times just to make sure we were in close enough proximity to the boat as there is no guide/dive master provided unless you arrange one ahead of time. read more

Pretty good place for diving. My friend picked out this place, so I didn't know anything about them when I got there. They have three boats and only require 2 divers for a boat to go out and there is a max of 6 divers per boat, which is nice. I did get a bit bored with the shallow reef dives (I did 6 dives over two days with them). Turns out if you want to do certain wrecks you need to let them know ahead of time (not the day of), especially anything over 60 ft had to be prearranged. I've noted this for next time. Day one captain was great, day two captain was good, but not the friendliest person I encountered on my trip. Both knew the dive sites well though. I think this place will really cater to what you want to do and see, just make sure to let them know what you want to see ahead of time. read more

Visited during a time of high winds offshore. The staff were very concerned about our ability to take the wave motion, so much so that they seemed to talk several folks out of going out! The waves were estimated at about 2-4 feet, an estimate we found to be accurate when we went out. My dive buddy and I have been out in worse conditions and were surprised that they would risk so much business. The staff were extremely helpful, and the dive briefings were appropriate. We loved that they limited the number of divers on their boats. We even took a snorkel trip through the mangroves, with a native who regaled us with his local knowledge. One negative was when my dive buddy and I were assigned a third diver, whose buddy got sick and declined to do the second dive. We weren't given any additional time to get acquainted, but we failed to do any type of buddy-check (our fault), so didn't enjoy that dive. We did a night dive with a competitor, and want to emphasize if you dive with Quiescence, you'll get much more exclusive attention. I think they care about their customers experience read more

I'm a diving snob and I did a morning snorkel trip with the wife and kids and it was about as perfect as it gets. These guys take out boats with no more than six people. As a party of four and no others, we essentially had a private boat taking us to multiple snorkel sights. John was a great captain and told us all about the area. All equipment was included including 3/4 dive suits. Great way to start warm, float and keep from getting sun burned. A few days later, I tried to book a list minute trip with Quiescence but it didn't work out. We did a trip on one of the big boats with 30 other people and only one stop. It was nice but it was nowhere near as exclusive feeling as our Quiescence trip. If you're looking to dive or snorkel, I'd say without hesitation that these guys should be your first stop. read more

My husband and I were in the area the first of December and based on reviews gave this shop a call. We were thrown a bit as we were asked if we wanted a guide on our dive. Neither of us had ever been asked that before. We said yes and they said how about tomorrow. We said ok. We were surprised to find out it was only going to be us, the dive master and the captain of the boat on our dive. WOW!!! The shop owner, I think, Louise was extremely friendly and kind. He gave us some great recommendations for food. He helped us get the right fitting gear. Diana was our dive master and she was friendly as well. Our captain was Steve. I have to give Diana and Steve a big thank you for being so kind to me. I have gained weight since the last time I dove so I was really guessing on weights. First, dive I couldn't get down and then sort of panic. One thing led to another and I was full panic attack on the surface of the water. Never had that happened to me. Steve calmed me down got me some more weight and we were able to do the dive. Even my husband was shocked at what happened. I can't explain it and I am hopeful it will never happen again. Anyway they could have been real jerks but they were so kind. We had two very long dives and it was great being just the dive master and my husband and I. The highlight for me was the sea turtles. They are beautiful. I am very glad we also had suits as on the second dive I was starting to get a bit cold. When we come back to Key Largo this will be the only shop we use. I am sure they see everything here but they are so down to earth and friendly. It was a great time and we felt so safe. Oh yea and we saw dolphins on the ride back in! My family and I had scheduled three boat outings with Quiescense, but because of the weather two of them got canceled. We showed up for the third reservation, an afternoon trip, when they said the weather had calmed down a bit. From the moment we walked into the shop I felt like they were annoyed we had come, maybe expecting that they wouldn't have to go out that afternoon. I felt rushed while getting all of our gear and loading into the boat. Once out on the reef our hired dive guide failed to get us back to the boat before one of our new divers ran out of air (he had been keeping the dive guide posted throughout the dive). The guide later blamed it on the fact that we wanted a group picture underwater but he could have said no to that and motioned to go back to the boat. Because we had to emergency surface that first dive, we didn't do a safety stop, however on the second dive the guide didn't complete the safety stop either. Even though it's shallow diving my dive computer still was alerting me to do a safety stop, and we had two new divers who needed to get into the habit. I've completed over 100 dives and have never experienced a guide being unable to get the group back to the boat in time or a guide who doesn't do the three minute safety stop. It's a lovely shop with a great setup, the gear cleaning area was really nice, but for me it's safety and friendliness that matter most. Next time don't take a group out unless you can give them 100%. read more

Just finished another excellent outing with the good folks at Quiessence. We have been out with them several times before and they are hands-down our favorite dive crew on Key Largo. Captain Steve is exceptionally skilled in addition to having a razor sharp wit and a great sense of humor. He knows all the local dive spots intimately and got us sole ownership of two superb reefs for the afternoon. No more than six divers per boat, and only $89 for a two tank trip. I have gone snorkeling with these guys twice and have to say that both experiences, while completely different, were amazing. In fact, I love the fact that neither of my trips were to the same sites. The captain was also different each time but both of them were very friendly and helpful. What I love most though is that their operation is small, quaint and a more personal experience than the larger operations appear to be. They go out twice a day and each trip takes up to 6 for either diving or snorkeling. If you are a first time snorkie they take the time to help you out, so there is no need to fear nubies. You are also welcome to bring food and drink aboard and yes that includes 'adult' beverages. read more

We can't WAIT to go diving with Quiescence again. We had planned our entire vacation around diving with another company, only to have them discourage us from going due to poor conditions- high seas and wind- however the conditions were really that they had a big boat and not enough divers to make the trip cost effective. It was our last chance to go diving, and on a whim we called Quiescence as we drove out of town. As it turned out, they had 2 spots available on their boat, and we're willing to hold it for a few minutes until we could get there. The staff was super knowledgeable. The service was top notch. When we got on the boat, the captain gave us about 10 choices of dive spots- good luck with that on a cattle boat! Quiescence only allows 6 divers per boat for a much more customized experience. The captain informed us that they'd been running trips for the past two days (when the other company discouraged us from going) and the conditions were ok (ok being 45 ft visibility and 3 ft seas vs 10ft viz and 8 ft seas reported by the other company). Being from San Diego, the conditions were awesome for us! Long story short, Quiescence saved our trip. Small boats aren't for everyone, but there's a reason why they've been around since 1977. By the way, they have coordinates for over 100 unmarked dive spots that the other companies don't have - be sure to ask about their "signature" spots. read more

Great dive. Ask for captain John. He was incredibly informative about fish, reefs and even diving tips. Very nice guy and professional. We dis snorkeling on a boat with others scuba diving. Total people on boat 8 including the captain. We went to 2 incredible reefs. I will say if you are squeamish about the water ask to go to shallower reefs in which case the scuba divers will be unhappy. For snorkelers, 20 to 30 ft is too far to get a good look. I like freediving and the trip was great for that. Reefs were healthy and beautiful. Trip left on time and returned on time. Definately, will use this dive shop and captain John again for a great dive ! read more

Found Quiescence through a Google search-mission to find the right dive shop/guides in the Key Largo area. We wanted something on a small scale that wasn't outrageously priced. An inquiry through their website led to an almost immediate response with great info. We booked an afternoon dive on 3/12 for 3 divers and 2 snorkelers. We had a boat to ourselves since they Max out at 6 versus the other cattle shops Check-in was a breeze and the crew set us up for our trip. Capt. Steve and boat 1 showed up after the morning trip, did a quick off and on, briefed us and we were off. Nice ride out to elbow reef and we tied up at the first spot. A detailed brief before each dive and then Capt Steve helped us all suit up and giant stride in. A great reef dive was followed by a wreck dive on the Hannah Bell and cannon spotting. Great visibility, conditions and support from the Capt made this a great first ocean dive after certification in Texas. If we only had more time for more dives...And then to top it off Capt Steve gave a perfect recommendation for where to eat after. Don't miss out on Sharkey's. read more

Awesome snorkel trip. I was in Miami for business and had a weekend off and decided to try these guys. I have not been on snorkel trips with other companies. Fair warning. The staff was very nice and knowledgable. Our capitan had a degree in marine biology. Small groups makes for a very personalized experience (i.e., you can move spots when you want and leave early if you wish). Life jackets weren't required, but I think that's really up to the capitan. I used Quiescence with a group of 5 other people on a Sunday afternoon and couldn't have had a better experience. (well I got a little sea sick, but not the fault of the business haha) It was ~ $50 per person and that included everything. Mask, snorkel, boat charter, captain, etc... Our Captain was Ryan. He was extremely friendly and very helpful with any questions that we had. We were suppose to go to two spots out on the reef, but Ryan was nice enough to take us to three! Two popular spots on the reef and one with a 12 ft tall Jesus in the middle of the ocean. A little weird, but still very interesting. The tour last about 3 hours or with the travel and by the time it ended, we were all very tired. All in all, a very good time seeing a beautiful place with friends. Highly recommended. read more

Had the chance to dive with them while visiting Naples, FL. It was a pretty good experience. The thing that I always consider most important when diving with a SCUBA outfit is how safety conscious they seem to be. Quiescence has a pretty thorough waiver form that you fill out that makes you feel more like they are concerned about your dive safety instead of signing your life away. I was part of a party of 3. I did a two tank dive package and my cousins were snorkeling. There were also 3 other SCUBA divers on the boat with me. The level of on-board service was excellent and the boat captain paid excellent attention to the divers and their safe entry and exit from the water. My first dive was great fun, with barracuda, angel fish and even the shadow of a shark off in the distance. The second dive is where we fell short. The captain didn't seem to want to venture far from the first dive site, and dropped in the middle of a SCUAB dessert. Sure there were some typical tropical fish, but there was also a pretty noticeable current. For the SCUBA divers it was no big deal. But made it nearly impossible for the snorkelers up top to stay in the water. Would I dive with Quiescence again? Yes. Would I be willing to try Ocean Divers or Rainbow Reef? Sure. read more

We have taken several snorkel outings in various places (Key West, Bahamas, Mexico, etc) and the experience provided by Captain John with Quiescence Diving Services was one of the very best! Captain John took my husband and I out (yes, our group was only 2, how cool!) and explained tons about the local area on the way out. He listended to our interests and gave us great suggestions on "hot spots". Upon arrival to every stop, Captain John pointed out key areas of interest and gave us great advice for what to look for, including the tons of conch we found. Captain John never made us feel rushed and actually offered the 3rd location because he wanted to make sure we were satisifed. I highly recommend this dive shop! My sister, brother in law, and I drove down from Naples, FL this week because we had always heard of the renown Florida Keys diving and were so excited to check it out! The dive company in Islamorada that we had originally booked our dives with cancelled on us at the last minute, so we were left scrambling. We called a handful of places who couldn't accommodate us, before reaching Quiescence (I believe it was Tim that answered the phone and was extremely patient and helpful). They ended up doing us a huge favor and taking us out to dive much later than they would normally leave. This resulted in a handful of people needing to stay late, but they had the absolute best attitude about it and nobody made us feel bad in the slightest. They were extremely friendly and positive. The dives themselves were awesome! Captain Steve is very knowledgeable of the area and talked us through all our site options. We ended up trusting his recommendations (Five Fingers and the Elbow) and we were not disappointed. We saw a shipwreck from 1930, a 200-year-old cannon, a sea turtle, giant barracuda, lobsters, huge crabs, a spotted ray, parrot fish, and many other fish and beautiful coral. It was overcast and choppy that day so the visibility suffered a little bit, but the dives were amazing nonetheless and completely worth it! We can't wait to come back on a sunny day. We're going to try Molasses Bay next time to look for sharks. It is also worth mentioning that Captain Steve is very funny. This is, of course, not a prerequisite for being a great captain, but if you are on a boat with someone for a few hours, it helps when they have a great sense of humor. Such a great dive shop! Today was the second time we've gone diving with them. Both times have been excellent, so I figured I'd write a review. The small boat with a maximum of six divers is ideal. Having been diving on the bigger boats in Key Largo and other places in Florida it's so nice not to feel like a herd of cattle getting on and off the boat. Plus it's less chaotic and you won't lose your gear in the shuffle of switching tanks, gearing up, etc. The captains are extremely accommodating, friendly and knowledgable. We were all excited to have the same dive master this second time with Quiescence, as he was excellent as well. So laid back and informative, he constantly pointed out marine life that I would have never noticed. I really can't say enough good things about this shop. It's the only place I'll dive with in the keys in the future! read more

We dove with Quiescence right after Hurricane Irma. The staff and boat captains were friendly and knowledgeable and they provided great service. This dive charter is very different than others as they only have small boats and take out smaller groups. This is excellent for having your choice of dive locations and having a one-on-one experience with the crew and staff. They definitely have my recommendation! Fantastic way to dive the Keys. We were directed here by our local dive shop that travels down to the keys several times a year, so we knew we were headed to a trustworthy place. We were still very surprised and impressed with how superlative these guys are. We worked mostly with Steve B, who bent over backwards to make sure everyone had a great time and was taken care of. All of the rental gear was brand new scubapro and in good working order. In addition to the great dive sites away from the crowds (the 6 divers max is essential to us because we don't like the crowds), there is a great 30-40 minute boat ride you get too, out through the beautiful mangroves and waters off the keys. We were very impressed and can't wait to return. Shout out to Steve for being a fantastic guide and dive master. We had been using a guide most other places and he was great at helping us to navigate the sites without needing one. read more
