Over two consecutive days, we completed four dives at French Reef, City of Washington, Hannah M Bell, and the Benwood Wreck. My husband and I have done two trips to Key Largo in the past few months, and we dove with Sail Fish Scuba both times. Their shop really stands out for the personalized service and for how much they truly care about the entire experience. We did one dive with another company on a day that Sail Fish was not available, and the difference was significant. We went out for 3 trips (6 dives) with the Sailfish crew. Every trip was awesome! A must see is the City of Washington wreck- we were lucky to see 2 stingrays and a hammerhead shark that was passing by. The captains were Kevin and Kate who were phenomenal safely getting us to the dive sites and home. The deckhand, Super Dave, made sure we were geared up properly and help with anything we needed including cleaning our gear which is a 5 star bonus! I had training dives with Tarik and Elara. I felt very comfortable with their instruction and know that I will be a better diver because of them! When you see Tarik, let him know how awesome he is with a Big Thumbs Up (bring coffee ) . These folks are great. I was looking for a last minute certification class between Christmas and new years. It was a great experience all around. Started Monday morning in the pool with my trainer and then went on two separate trips to sea and had a total of four dives(Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning) in the ocean along with other certified divers who had excursions booked on those days. YOU! WANT! TO! DIVE! HERE! Full disclosure, I've not dived the bigger operations down in Key Largo and they could be just as fantastic. However, when my LDS scheduled a dive heading out with Sail Fish, I jumped at the chance because it was a double dip on Spiegel Grove but looking at the forums, there's little info so this was a leap of faith! That leap turned out great! The shop is small but has everything you need should you have forgotten anything. It's next to a tattoo shop so you leave your job-diving friends there to get inked up. The boat, too, is on the smaller side. So small, that to ensure a solid trip, you unload your gear then toss your bag in a locker on the dock! This isn't bad though! In fact, with the smaller size of the boat and the shop, it allowed an intimate experience. There not tons of people fighting for a seat, the crew is ridiculously attentive, and the shop staff can give you all the details you could handle! A lovely ride from the Gulf side over to the Atlantic side was accompanied by a pre-dive brief and a short jaunt to the Spiegel Grove. It was crowded with 3 other board tied up to one of the buoys and we tied off on the port crane (I think). Both dives were fantastic! Skipper, mate, and divemaster were on their A game bringing us back on board. They also brought some candies around between dives to kill that saltwater taste and cookies on the way back. This was my final dive for my wreck and deep specialties and was certainly amazing. Be warned: you'll go broke trying to see all of what the Spiegel Grove has to offer! read more

We had a lovely time diving in Key Largo with Tom at Sailfish Scuba! I chose Sailfish Scuba over other dive shops because the dives come with a guide. I prefer diving with an experienced guide so they can help me with my gear and guide the way underwater. Guides often know where the good spots are to catch a glimpse of cool sea life! Another very awesome thing about Sailfish Scuba is they provide FREE photos from every dive. Ours were uploaded within hours of our dive. When I initially reached out, I was impressed with how quickly they got back to me, even after hours. I was able to reserve our spot with just a $25 deposit, and then pay the rest the day of the dive. When we arrived, they were very friendly and welcoming at the dive shop, and even had a pup to greet us. In addition to a merchandise section at the front of the shop, they have a little area in the back with couches and a whiteboard where you can sit down to sign waivers, fill out/stamp your dive book, or simply relax before you head out. They even had all of the info from our two dives written on the whiteboard when we got back after the dives, so I was easily able to copy into my dive book. We were the only two people diving with Sailfish that day, so us two and our guide, Tom, hopped on the boat with a neighboring resort. We still had our private dive though! The dives went great and Tom was helpful in assisting us with our gear and getting us weighted properly. We dove twice on different areas of Elbow Reef, and saw lobster, trumpet fish, parrotfish, pufferfish, a grouper, and a beautiful green sea turtle! I'm extremely frustrated with how the owner handled a very unexpected travel issue. Traveling from Michigan we had some bad snow storms and we were stuck in Chicago. We had to cancel and unfortunately will not be back in that area. I did call as soon as I knew almost 48 hrs notice. She kept the deposit but also charged me almost $300.00 for canceling. She was great to deal with until we had an emergency. Very frustrating especially not willing to negotiate the idea of giving me back my money. With the economy today and the environment we live in you would think a business owner would understand that deals with the weather all the time. This is not good customer service. read more

So I had not been out scuba diving in 10 years, and fortunately my friend encouraged me to get back into it. She goes to Key Largo often and highly recommended Sail Fish, so we took a trip down and planned our dives around their open days. I needed a refresher, so spent my first morning in the lagoon taking care of that. Austin , the intern, was my instructor and he was very patient and reassuring, and we had another instructor (Mike) nearby with a couple folks taking a class, but he was also checking on Austin and giving him pointers as needed. The refresher gave me back my confidence, plus it let me dive around the underwater hotel they have at Jules lagoon. The boat dives were great, besides being able to follow my friends around, we also had a guide/instructor with us on every dive. Got some nice pictures from their blog (included with the cost of the dive), and saw all kinds of creatures, even my first shark! One of my friends who came along just to snorkel was able to be with a guide as well, and she even saw a few turtles! The shop also had some discounts for us since we booked the dives, so bought a few goodies as well. In all, had a wonderful time! I chose Sail Fish Scuba in Key Largo for completion of my Open Water Certification based on its advertised "transparent prices" and positive reviews--only to later learn it was sold in December 2024 to new owners, Tarek Salem and his wife, Michaela. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing, as my decision was based on outdated reviews that do not reflect the current service. Tarek may be an experienced diver, but he is not a good instructor. He was unresponsive, frequently canceled or rescheduled last-minute, and provided minimal instruction. Despite knowing I was visiting for a limited time and driving over two hours each way, I was given only about an hour in a pool-like setting, which is not enough for a beginner to practice all the skills. I was not properly weighted, making it impossible to descend while wearing a 7mm wetsuit--something a professional instructor should check at the very beginning. Instead of ensuring my success, I was charged $125 for this rushed session, which felt designed to fail to push me into a private lesson costing over $700--far more than the originally quoted price. Additionally, false allegations have been made about my experience. On February 1st, Tarek suggested two boat dives for practice, but I was given only 10 pounds of weight, which prevented me from descending. Claims that I had a panic attack are false--Tarek told me to snorkel since I could not descend due to be incorrectly weighted and then left me alone in open water while he and Michaela continued diving. If my safety was truly a concern, I would not have been abandoned. I later got seasick on the boat, preventing me from doing the second dive, but neither Tarek nor Michaela checked on my well-being. However, I was charged $97 claiming that I was given a "discount" since they charge $109 for a fully guided two dives snorkeling trip with pics. Note I was able to snorkel only on one dive and that too it was not guided. On February 24th, I confirmed I wanted to continue training, and Tarek quoted me $350 for a full pool day and two open-water dives. However, he canceled last-minute and rescheduled for February 27th, only to change the plan again upon my arrival. Instead of the promised two boat dives, I was told a short 1-hour lagoon session would count as an open-water dive, and completing the full course would now cost over $700. This bait-and-switch pricing, lack of communication, and disregard for proper training and safety were extremely frustrating. The teaching was vague, the service unprofessional, and the pricing misleading. The shop's five-star reviews reflect the previous owners and should be removed, as they do not represent the current business. Nowhere on the website does it mention the change in ownership, and my experience makes it clear that customer safety and proper instruction are not priorities for the new management. This operation is ran or managed by an individual that doesn't understand basic customer service. I booked a 2 tank dive online for the Saturday that I was planning to be in Key Largo. When I received the written confirmation after booking online, their system chose a date one week later. When I notified the operator by email of the date miscue, I asked if they could move my reservation back to the date I'm in town or they could just cancel the wrong booking date. A seemingly simple question with 2 alternatives. Wow, I received a super berating email response (see photo of email) back about MY mistake causing their operation all kinds of issues. The funny thing is this person stated this wrong booking date is a recurring issue. They must not know that their booking software has a bug. This individual doesn't know service business 101, 'the customer is always right' There are so many great dive operators. Stay well away from Sail Fish. read more

From Jen's warm, exuberant welcome at the beginning of our first day, to Chris' quickly and expertly fixing a free flow issue with my octo at the end of the day, I understand why Sail Fish Scuba popped up immediately when I searched for the best dive shop in Key Largo. The warmth and genuine nature we experienced right off the bat set the tone for a really good day, and sweet Tom's unbelievable and kind patience with me - a new diver still getting her fins wet - made my baby diver hiccups seem SO much less "end of the world". With just eight blue water dives under my belt as of our first dive with Sail Fish Scuba, I was (and still am) working on my air consumption. That, coupled with a very unexpected and fairly strong current put me in a position during the first dive where I just couldn't catch my breath, so we called it 18 minutes in. I had a beast of a time trying to get back on the boat and somewhere in the process lost a weight pouch. Needless to say, I felt pretty defeated. But Tom was incredibly supportive and helped me take it all in stride. By our last dive of the day we clocked 42 minutes, which is super good for me. The second half of the second day, I had some issues with a 90 foot dive that ended up being just a little too deep for my confidence level, and Tom quickly and expertly took care of me, and with incredible ease. His patience is off the charts, and his encouragement is unsurpassed. At the end of each day, Tom took our personally-owned equipment back to the shop to rinse and ready for the next day. Unbeknownst to me until later, he took it upon himself to rummage through the "lost and found" bin the first day and found a replacement weight pouch for me. On our final day, I asked Jen where we could find a gas station with an air compressor to air up our rental car's tires. She told me they could take care of it, disappeared in a flash, and came back with an air tank and adaptor. We were able to get the tires aired up right there in the parking lot! These folks are pure gold - platinum really - and they've gone so far above and beyond anything we could have expected out of a dive shop. They gave us such a wonderfully memorable honeymoon dive trip that my wife and I had already discussed coming back to dive with Sail Fish Scuba and Tom before we'd even finished our last dives. We will abso-LUTELY not dive with anyone else in Key Largo. If you're looking for a dive shop in Largo, do yourself the biggest favor and just book with Sail Fish Scuba. This 5-star review is long overdue! My son and I headed down to Key Largo for a St. Patrick's Day trip during his college break and had a fantastic time with T and Michaela at Sail Fish! We had signed up for a refresher and a nitrox course and while the weather was less than ideal, T got us into the lagoon for a unique experience that included a dive tour of the underwater hotel! T's combination of technical experience (I think it was 25,000 dives!!) unflinchingly calm demeanor and attention to the smallest details of customer service make him a professionals professional! Best trip ever!! COME DIVE HERE!!!! Whether you are new or a seasoned diver. Perfect outfit, great owners and guides. They are the gold standard, for sure. Tarek, Michaela and Maria were incredible. Two of the three of us were novice divers. Never ever been in open water. And Tarek and his team took us from nervous anticipation to open water certification and a true appreciation of the joys of diving, reefs, wrecks and sea life. First, they are thoughtful and considerate. They understood where we were and our hopes, fears, wishes and desires. Second, they are great listeners. Third, they are fantastic teachers. They were with us every kick, breath and float of the way. They helped us understand how to breathe, put together our equipment, sink and float, be buoyant, and everything else. They showed us sea life, reefs, wrecks and so much more. They gave us history lessons. And they did it all with a smile and a grace. At the same time, one of the three of us was an experienced diver -- and they paced with him. They taught him expert tricks and gave him an amazing trip, too. They knew the reefs, the Benwood wreck, the fish and everything else. I wish every tour was just like this. They sold me at "we're a bunch of retirees doing this..." Took the open water diver certification and a dive trip. Tip 1 - if you have sinus issues - any at all - call the shop and ask if you can take medicine. Apparently certain types of medicine are okay. Tip 2 - I run cold. I should've brought an extra large fluffy towel instead of thinking the "sun will warm me up". SMH. Staff: Friendly! Any question you have just ask away! Jen made me feel like my questions were important to her too (and some of my questions were nervous repeats - my bad). She also seemed to man the phone and the register, so you'll mostly interact with her. Tip: You should really ask Jen how to orient yourself in the water to make sure you're swimming in the right direction (up, down and all around). It was particularly difficult for me to swim up or down, until Jen told me to try thinking of my body like a boat and BAM- it clicked! And, phew, thank goodness it clicked, I did not want to pop my ears almost every minute. She also generously lent me her yoga mat and shared some sage advice on how to handle diving when a monthly friend comes visit. Instructor Tom: I did my open water certification and all my dives with Tom. He was very informative and answered all my questions about diving. He's confident, friendly and helped me pointed out why I keep getting water in my mask. (Turns out I was exhaling through my nose even when I thought I wasn't. I squeezed my nose and forced my body to adjust) I dived with a family of three and he guided us through different parts of the sea. Tom is very laid back and goes with the flow. I personally appreciate that as it calms me, but others might prefer a stricter and manual following method to feel more comfortable. He aims to have fun with all the certification and dives. TIP: Although the classes were small, I did want more personal attention, and the shop DOES OFFER INDIVIDUAL classes. When the diver-instructor starts showing things to other people, remember to swim closer and join in what everyone else did even if the instructor didn't specifically ask you to do it. I didn't realize sometimes he was showing some interesting bits of the sea and missed out on a few things. It was particularly hard to stay aware of my surroundings since we were all new divers. Some in the group tends to be fast and hit into others, unexpectedly float up (so Tom had to chase after them to make sure they were okay), block entrances, swim too slow, swim too fast - the list goes on, and yes, I am part of the some of that list. In retrospect, I think it might have been a better idea to tip after every class/dive instead of waiting until the end. Shop: Typical small diving shop, with an atypical bathroom that provides a galore of complimentary sun block, scrunchies, new combs, aloe vera and other small essentials in the bathroom. Just to be clear, it's for people who forgot last minute essentials to use there, and not a "fill-up-your-goodie-bag" moment. You can also buy some drinks, certain books, essential scuba gear and nifty apparel. Plus, CUTE DOGS ALERT!! Location: It's in Key Largo. It's easy to reach by car. No clue whether there is public transportation or consistent car service (Uber, Lyft or otherwise). But definitely use WAZE instead of Google Maps. Waze was more accurate re distance, traffic conditions and directions. Google Maps lagged and lost service a few times. Tips on finding the shop if you are coming from Florida City into Key Largo - Once you cross the bridge and turn onto the island, there is still about 3-4 miles to go. The shop will be on your right, look for a tiny, but fairly bright and noticeable purple awning, and the words "SCUBA". Don't look for "Sail Fish", because it is too difficult to spot while driving. BTW WAZE And Google Maps asked me to turn in too early. Instead, turn at the following entrance instead. Parking: There is a parking lot of about 30, maybe 40, spots, but it is SHARED with a few businesses. I found parking right in front of the shop easily, but I went on a WEEKDAY right before memorial weekend. On Friday there were significantly more people. Where I stayed: Quality Inn Florida City which I would 100% recommend (friendly and happy staff with quick response time, and as clean as a motel should be but rooms feel a little humid) Realistically, it's a 30-40 minute drive from the Inn to Sail Fish (Google maps says 25 - but I never once got there that early driving at speed limit) Food: No close by deli or quick bite to eat, but there are delicious seafood restaurants to go to after the dives, or a nice mani-padi down the parking lot read more

They also deliver their services with an upbeat attitude and fun atmosphere. This is a family dive shop and provides a more personal experience than the big guys. I worked with Sail Fish on my PADI refresh and then had six fantastic dives over two days. The refresh was at Jules Lagoon and was well instructed and comprehensive. It gave me the confidence to go out to the reef ready for a full afternoon of diving. Their boat, Deeper, is not a luxury liner but it gets you safely to the mooring balls and back. The instructors, dive masters and boat crew are all very professional and good spirited. Shout out to Jen, Lucas, Tom, Austin, Steve, Mike and salty Captain Bill for an awesome diving experience. Amazing! I was pretty stressed about finding a company in Key largo and had a huge list after polling friends. I went with Sail Fish because of 1- small groups. I didn't want to be stuck on a huge boat alone (I needed a buddy) 2- prices were clearly stated on their website! (Except the three boat discount that I missed but I took it :) ) 3- the guide price- the owner Tarik was my guide- was included! Tarik guided me on my deep dive and Megan was lovely on the coral dives. Just know that the group could be up to six in the group dives so you don't split into two always and we went on Rainbow for our deep dive. Tarik was with me and assisted me so even in a big group, I had my private guide. I used their gear and they took care of it. I enjoyed it being small and local and I didn't have to deal with multiple people helping a huge amount of people at once. I had a wonderful time snorkeling with Sail Fish Scuba. With so many snorkeling companies in the Florida Keys to choose from, I'm glad I went with SFS! The staff were friendly and helpful. After checking in, they suit you up in a wet suit and fitted for fins and mask. The gear and boat were in great condition. They took us to two dive sites. At both sites, I saw plenty of beautiful colorful fish, including a parrot fish that looked like it was waving at me and something that looked like a spotted eel. My guide, David, was great. He always checked on us to make sure we were okay and he took awesome photos of us. It's $95 (including tax) for the snorkeling trip, which is from 8:30am to 12:30pm. I have been going to the Keys for dive trips for over 20 years. I've gone to a lot of dive shops, but Sail Fish stands out above the rest. Everyone is extremely nice, informative, helpful, and very accommodating. All their dives are guided by a dive master and the best part is that they take care of everything! They set up your gear, they switch it over between dives, and break it all down so that you can enjoy the view and relax. It's also really nice that all their photos and videos are FREE and you don't have to worry about an upsell at the end of your trip. They actually give you a discount in the shop instead! The owners, Chris and Jen are one of a kind. They really do put their customers first. I overheard Jen one day explain to someone that it just wasn't safe to go out on the water due to weather AND THEN continued to give them all sorts of places and information of how they can spend their day during the bad weather. You don't see many places putting the customer before themselves often. Go here. Continue going there. You won't regret it. And ask for Tom as your guide and/or instructor! We had a great trip with this dive company. There were 5 of us: Terri of us dove and the other three snorkeled. Both parties had excellent guides--our dive guide was a gentleman in his 70's with thousands of hours of experience and he was so patient with me and my awkward inability to control my buoyancy. From the initial confirmation email, to the very end of the dive, this shop is definitely a place to come Back to and visit again!! The email gives so much detail on how to find the shop, what time to arrive, when to check-in, what to expect while on the boat, where to look for local winds/weather, where to look for pictures of your dives, you truly do not need to ask much more....just read the email! Upon arrival, was greeted by the owners and started filling out the required medical statements and paperwork, since it was going to be a cooler dive, was promptly fitted for a dive suit to get things ready. The employees had all the tanks, gear, and everything ready for everyone, it was so nice to get on the boat, sit next to your gear, and start setting up. From the boat captain to the guides, you never felt rushed, or left without questions, which was so very nice. It was a bit cool, so the guides did suggest not to take aNy gear off between the dives, plus it was goIng to be a short surface interval anyway, it would have wasted much valuable dive time.
