We had a great experience at Scuba Fun. 3 of us went on the discover scuba path and we are all going to get PADI certified on our next trip to the Keys. Our diver guide - Rob - did a great job managing my daughter's anxiety. In the shop we were treated by people enthusiastically wanting to share scuba with new divers. My girlfriend and I recently did a two-dive trip with Scuba-Fun to Molasses Reef and were very pleased with the experience. The lady working at the desk (I think Yvonne) and our guide Charles were very patient with helping us fit into our gear and answering questions. We appreciated Charles attention to detail and prioritization of safety; he is very professional and enthusiastic, he made our day that much better. Most importantly (in my opinion), these guys are blue star operators, meaning they put effort into marine conservation by partnering with ethical charter boats, giving strict rules about interacting with wildlife and ensuring that all guests use reef-safe sunscreen. This should be a very important criterium when looking for a dive shop! I have read through their bad reviews and literally all of them are results of people not being good divers and being offended when the guide puts them in their place, not understanding how to check their gear, or not understanding that this company cannot control ocean conditions and sometimes needs to re-direct the dive/snorkel site. We were very happy with our experience and would absolutely dive with these guys again! read more

The online registration was easy and communication was timely and efficient. Yvonne got back to me quickly and answered all my questions. I was in Key Largo for a day with the mission to go scuba diving for the first time since being certified. My fiancé came for a dive and his whole family came along as snorkelers on our trip. We loved the entire experience with Scuba Fun! From the instructions after registering to arriving and getting our gear to going out on the boat and into the water, everything was clear and fun. Our guide was David and he may be the most patient person I've ever met :) He made us all feel at ease on our first ocean dive and was enthusiastic and pointed out some awesome sights under the water. We were on a Rainbow Reefs Dive Center charter (it appears Scuba Fun just contracts with other companies since they don't have their own boats) and the crew was incredible. Definitely bring a few bucks along to tip your crew and guide! Our two dives were at Molasses Reef. With 70 feet of visibility we had the most picturesque and relaxing scuba experience! read more

We arrived on a beautiful day and had two dives seeing what we thought was a great amount of sea life only be all done on the next day! Seeing a information of 14 Eagle rays, two nurse sharks, two reef sharks, a Hawksbill turtle, moray eel's, lobsters and tons of thick schools a beautiful fish. it's sprinkled a bit but the sea was common visibility was actually great!!! Tonya our instructor for daughter gave us confidence that we can go off and dive while testing our daughters newfound skills. Anja the dive shop operator and photographer offered a list of local restaurants and we enjoyed two of them! Last but not least the scuba dog Kilo!!! We will return!!! read more

Please read the whole thing; I have added some details I forgot about in my Tripadvisor review. My adult sons & I were really looking forward to scuba diving while on vacation. So arriving at the pool, the session was cut short because the rest of the party arrived late; my boys & I needed a little extra TLC to get the hang of it, & didn't get the extra instruction. My son had problems with his mask- Sharky said it was bec. of his mustache, but after 15 min & my son almost giving up at the pool, I notice the mask was folding & had 2 creases around the nose which was letting water in. There were other issues that Sharky didn't catch; I had to bring it to their attention. So we got another mask for the boat trip. Our regulators were faulty, old, or something- I could only get 1/2 to 2/3 of a breath of air every time I inhaled with it; we were told that's how they are. (Later we went to a dive shop & tried out a new one- amazing the difference- you could actually breathe with it. Once at the boat we got handed off to Rocky, & the first thing out of his mouth was 'yeah this was supposed to be my day off'. The rest of the day went exactly like that. Rocky tells us not to touch the coral with our feet, so we spent the majority of the first dive figuring out the balance of inflating the vest just enough to counteract the weights they put in them. It takes about 1-2 minutes to see results of incremental inflation or deflation. After a few minutes of frustration, Rocky takes us to the surface & threatens to end the dive if we don't stop doing all these wrong things. Well hey Einstein maybe somebody should have TOLD US all these things during the training. Then once we get our bearings, we swim around the reefs, NEAR HIM, filming with our gopros. Then he yells at us that we need to stay at arms length near him. SO FINE, WE DO, & LET HIM LEAD. Then what does he do? Sits at the bottom in the chair position & goes nowhere. WTF dude.... I HAVE PLENTY OF VIDEO CLIPS OF THAT- ask me. No attention to detail, yells at us for things we weren't trained on, tells us to stick with him, then sits there. Then getting back onto the boat was the fun part. Rocky mentioned to get away from the boat if we get too close- guess what; when we got topside, the waves were pushing us into the boat. We were told to hang onto the tag line with one hand & our fins were in the other hand. Guess what happens when there's nobody holding the end of the tag line to keep it tight? We're all getting pushed into the boat & the tag line is wrapping around everything (my son got his hand cut from it). So they're yelling at us to get away from the boat- guess what? kicking with all your might in your bare feet don't do sh** against 3 ft waves. ROCKY is yelling at everyone to "GRAB THE F*CKING TAG LINE PEOPLE, IT'S NOT THAT F*CKING HARD!". Yeah, he literally said that to us customers in the water. 100% COMPLETELY unprofessional. NO excuse for that. Finally they figure out the tag line end is just floating around. Hey what a great idea- somebody pull the other end of the tag line out so we don't get pushed into the boat- DUH!!! Before anyone bashes me, I've been an instructor most of my adult life. Percussion, teaching kids, teaching martial arts for over a decade, & I've been a certified ski & snowboard instructor for 23 years. So yeah I know a thing or two about instruction. They are good divers on their own, but that never means they know how to teach others. Sparky was ok but Rocky offered little to NO instruction. He was on his day off... That day we spent $750, we did NOT get our money's worth. That is a sh*t ton of money for us, & their refund policies are in their favor, not yours. We give more attention to students that buy a $15 group ski lesson than these guys did @ $250 each for scuba. THEN to add insult to injury (back on shore), Rocky takes me over & tells me the tourist tree joke, which is an insult to those who make up most of their income. 'the tree has red, flaky skin & it complains a lot'. WTF. THEIR REVIEW REPLY was mostly excuses & irrelevant facts that didn't necessarily pertain to our case. I highly DO NOT recommend scuba fun. Just walked into scuba fun and the last thing I experienced was fun. I simply walked in to rent some diving gear and was instantly greeted with attitude. The lady attendant was nothing but rude and unhelpful and would refuse to kindly show us the gear available. Went out of her way to tell me that she was "at work" and I was on "vacation" I am born and raised in Florida. She also warned me that "I would get yelled at for returning the gear after 5pm" but gave me no other option and would not simply give me the address on where I had to return my gear after 5pm. With so many scuba shops in key largo I would avoid this tourist trap. Be warned! read more

We had the most amazing experience with David & Craig. My husband had been certified a gazillion years ago but my son & I had never been. David was patient, thorough abs extremely knowledgeable. We spent the morning in the pool which was a lovely facility and David really took his time with us and made it so fun for our 12 year old son. After grabbing a quick lunch we went straight to the boat to dive two different reefs. Again...David was patient and helpful and so much fun to be with foe the day. I was worried about my son as the waves were a little rough above water but once under the water he really found his stride abs David showed him some amazing things. They even swam with some nurse sharks, saw eel, and so many other fish. David was delightful and so kind. We felt we were in extremely competent hands all day! read more

We vacationed in Key Largo this past week to get better at scuba diving. I contacted Yvonne from Scuba Fun and she set up everything for us which included incredible 2 tank dives, all of our scuba gear, an instructor who was amazing (Rocky Rabe- he even saved my life on a dive LOL), and made sure we had the best time!! They recommended great restaurants and were so pleasant and great to work with. We swam away with our Nitox certification, Jeff- advanced open water and myself an Adventure Diver. I was already a certified diver, but wanted to get my mother, sister and daughter certified. My mother needed a lot of extra work to over come issues, I found Dan and Rafel awesome and very patient. Our scuba instructor John was great, we had a great day -our first time ever doing scuba and my daughter and I just had a blast. They made it fun and easy ... but safety first which is a big deal to me. Patience and care were taken every step of the way by Anya, John, and other folks at the Scuba-fun store (coolest building in KL btw :) and wish we could have booked a longer experience but we only had a day. Gotta go back, that's all there is to it! read more

Beware of shady tank rental policies. I rented 2 tanks for 3 days and paid for the full 3 days in advance. The weather was very bad, so I couldn't use the tanks. I returned the tanks a day early, when the dive shop opened (full air, never used). The dive shop still insisted on charging me for the third day - when the tanks were not even in my possession. So basically, I paid $30 for the tanks to sit in the dive shop and be rented to someone else. Stay away from this place! read more

I don't often write reviews, but felt I had to after our visit to Scuba Fun. Outranking in all regards. We were last minute divers at peek season. They went beyond expectations to make it happen for us...and the whole time making us feel like VIP customers. Scuba Fun delivered customer service that is too often hard to find today.
