It was good. A little boring. I prefer drift to anchored dives. But the viz was decent and I saw a couple of cute turtles! The one thing that wasn't my favorite was that they don't have a DM in the water and since I didn't go with a buddy, I was forced to pay $40 for a guide - even though they were super easy dives and I would have been absolutely fine on my own. 25 feet max, very very easy, and the guide kept redirecting me to what he wanted to look at. Every time I would swim off he would come get me and "redirect" me. It was kind of annoying. I just wanted to swim around and he kept pointing at things that I had no idea what he was trying to show me. It was weird. He was very nice though. The boat was reasonably comfortable but no snacks are offered. No help to get gear on or off boat. I'm spoiled by my usual boats though. But we did see a pod of dolphins on the ride back so that was cool. read more

First class dive operation. I'm an experienced, advanced, deep - but non-tech - diver and have joined their double-dip wreck dives twice. The dive boat is large, comfortable, well-kept and clean enough to eat off the deck. The staff is highly experienced, friendly, light-hearted, but 100% focused on safety. If you're diving solo here, they will require you to pay for a guide (which I think is $40, so not too expensive). Given the complexity (and potential danger) of the dive sites they visit (Spiegel Grove & Duane), a guide is a good idea anyway, and their guides are experienced and professional. Sam was my guide on my last visit and I felt as if I got a guided dive, a history lesson and a mini advanced wreck class all in one. The first dive was a fun, "light" penetration dive, which also served as a skills assessment for Sam. Once he understood our small group's skills a bit more, we did more advanced penetrations. These were still straight-through, lower-risk penetrations, but most certainly fun and interesting. Tech divers have the option to do one long dive, should the wish to go that route. (It should be noted that no one was forced to do a penetration dive and the group agreed on the type of dive that we wanted to experience) I have not utilized them for shallower dives, but their reputation and feedback is excellent for those as well. I would not hesitate joining them on a less advanced dive if I didn't want to go deep one day, or if I was diving with less experienced divers. The shop is well-stocked and the gentleman working the front desk way very polite and helpful. The boats are 5 minute drive from the shop and there is plenty of parking at both locations. The boat location has the bonus of being next to a good seafood shack, as well as around the corner for the Buzzard's Roost, which is my favorite go-to for post-dive grub. I highly recommend using Horizon. If you're staying in Miami, they're in North Key Largo, so the drive is only an hour. It's most certainly worth it. read more

I did my referral dives for my PADI open water certification with Horizon Divers and couldn't have asked for a better experience! I live out of town and was coordinating with them over the phone before my trip, and as a brand new diver I had a lot of questions, and Millie at the front desk was so kind and helpful. My instructor Hugh was truly amazing. I not only learned so much from him and felt really comfortable, but I had a lot of fun too! I was originally going to book my dives with a different, larger shop on Key Largo but that shop told me they wouldn't guarantee me a spot as a solo traveler and were somewhat rude about it too. Our kids 12 and 14 years old signed up to receive their open water certification through Horizon Divers, as a referral course. It also had been 7 years since my wife and I went on our last dive, and we needed a refresher. I can't say enough great things about our instructor Ashlee and the Horizon Divers crew. Ashlee was extremely thorough, patient, caring, and had a great sense of humor despite a few setbacks with our certification plan. We felt 100% confident that our kids were receiving the best instruction possible and never doubted their safety. Ashlee split her time the first day providing our kids with their required skills training, and providing us with the necessary refresher skills. The second day was mostly focused on the kids, but we were able to spend both dives together as a family thanks to the help of the guide Ruven, who we really enjoyed diving with. We're looking forward to new diving experiences with our family, and our kids are on the path to become great divers thanks to Ashlee and Horizon. This place is so friendly and helpful to do your scuba diving! This is where my instructor takes all his students, and the staff is great! We stayed in the bunk rooms above the shop, and my only complaint about this whole experience here is the water pressure in the shower. The place is very roomy, affordable, and comes with a shower and a kitchen. It's nice to not break the bank since scuba is not a cheap sport to get into. Now on to the fun stuff! There are several boats one can go on depending on the demand and whether one is going on a shallow or deep dive. The captains and first mates are very knowledgeable and so helpful. They help newbies like me to get into our gear, navigate the boat, get into and out of the water safely. My dives were all shallow water so the boat rides were around 20-30 minutes. They give you a 10 min warning to get into your dive gear then the captain tells you where you can go and what lies underneath to see. I got so seasick on all my dives except for the last day, but everyone was so supportive and didn't make me feel bad for throwing up everywhere. All the staff act like they are family and they treat you like one as well. Granted, my instructor used to work there so they were very welcoming. You can tell that this is their livelihood and they are very proud to do what they do! Don't forget to visit their gift shop where you can buy cool gifts and T-shirts! We just did our first salt water and boat dives ever with horizon. We did the reef dives. Took us to Christ of the abyss and north dry rocks. Have only dove springs. They were awesome!!! Fun and professional. They gave us guidance on weight for salt water and were spot on. Helped setup gear and switched gear for the second dive. Someone got sick on the boat and took excellent t care of them and provided recommendations to help in the future. Our first dive they rescheduled for us after calling to let us know of rough seas and were great with rescheduling for today. Glad we did. They have a very nice shop as well. I spent a week here and did some fun dives and a course. I have to say I enjoyed my time here and it was a good experience overall. The staff was friendly and helpful. My instructor Jeff had a great sense of humor and although he was very laid back and relaxed, he did a great job teaching and I learned a lot. I went diving with Horizon Divers in Key Largo for my first time diving in the ocean. My dad was my buddy, and he has been diving hundreds of times. Still, we got a group dive master each day, and I'm really glad we did! We had a different dive master each time, and they all were great -- Hugh, Terry, and Dianne. They were able to tour us around the right loop. The best spots were on Elbow Reef and North Dry Rocks. Hugh spotted a nudibranch for us right out the gate (a red-tipped sea goddess). We saw many barracuda, moray eels, parrot fish, angel fish, grunts, and damselfish (among others!). My dad spotted two blennys, two scorpion fish, and a jawfish. Our captains -- Troy, Gabe, and Oscar -- and first mates -- Megan, Chelsea, and Ashley -- were all also really fantastic. The crew was very helpful setting up or fixing gear as needed. Highly recommend, and I hope to go back some day! read more

All of the staff that we interacted with were great, but Troy was super-great as was Megan. (Don't forget us Troy and Megan for this 5-star review!!) Professional, personable...just all positives. Dove with Horizon Divers in June 7th for a two-tank trip on the Spiegel Grove. Rainbow Reef had cancelled on us that morning, but Horizon was still down to get wet, so we jumped on their last two spots and had a really terrific trip. Dani, the captain, and Oscar, the first mate, were super helpful. There was an instructor from Horizon (Bobby, I think) doing some guided dives or a class off of the boat, but he was still very attentive to all the customers too. Great trip, great crew, great experience. In the shop, Becca was super cool and helpful getting us set up on the trip and checking us out for some sweet merch after the dives. Didn't catch his name, but one of the other staff filled out steels for us while we waited so we could get on the road quickly. I will only dive with Horizon when I'm in Key Largo from now on! read more

My husband and I just got certified as AOW and Nitrox diver here over the weekend. The experience was amazing, we saw sharks, ray, barracuda and lots of other fish! My son and I dove with Horizon Divers on Saturday, May 11, 2024. We had a great experience from start to finish. I called Horizon Divers (after a reservation with another company fell through), asking if they could accommodate two Open Water divers, along with a private guide only 45 minutes before the boat left their dock. I spoke with Millie who was just awesome in getting everything arranged in very little time. We arrived at their shop, got the paperwork filled out and we were on our way to the boat with 30 minutes to spare. And there to greet us was our guide Jared. He was just awesome. He helped us set up our gear and was super responsive to our desire to take our time under the water in order to view as many species of fish as we could. He did a great job of doing just that! And after we surfaced, the wind had picked up and it was pretty choppy. As such, it wasn't too easy to get our gear switched over to a new air tank. And here again, Jared was indispensable. He totally helped both of us get our gear set up and ready for the second dive. Jared, you rock and we'd be happy to have you as our guide anytime. The crew on the boat: Gavin and Luke were also extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Excellent pre-dive briefing! Our thanks to both of you. All in all, a wonderful time. Highly recommend Horizon divers, my brother and I wanted to try a different company in Key Largo than the one we had used for previous trips. The overall experience with them was excellent. Our dive guide Ashley was top notch, we were well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. The diving was very good, our rental gear was in good condition, boat was clean. The catamaran used was very stable as they usually are, I didn't see anyone being seasick! Diving with Horizon was a much less "commercial" and a lot more "personal" experience for us and our next dives in Key Largo will definitely be with Horizon and ideally with Ashley. This was our first trip to the Keys, and when you want to dive the Keys then Key Largo is the lace to be. And when you dive Key Largo, Horizon Divers who you dive with. My wife set up our dives with Angie and she made sure everything went smoothly. We shipped our gear direct to their dive center and they held it for us. No concerns about weight limits on the plane. We scheduled three days of diving, and although the weather only allowed for one day, that dive did not disappoint. We went out on beautiful morning with 10 other divers giving us plenty of room on the Luna Bay. Capt. Troy took us out to Elbow, which had good viz but a mild++ current. Our dive lead, Rich, pointed out the some sea life photo ops and navigated the site. Our next stop was North North Dry Rocks. The visibility went down to fair, but little to no current. We were diving for the first time with new BCDs (Christmas Gifts) and my tank came loose on the first dive, and my wife's on the second. Rich handled it like a pro; before I even knew the tank was starting to float, he was over and strapping it down. When I saw the same thing happening to my dive buddy, he beat me to her and had it handled while I held her hand. This was my wife's first open water dive in two years and they made it fun and exciting while helping her relieve some of the apprehension of getting back in the water. I would dive with these guys everyday I'm in Key Largo, could not recommend them strongly enough. Thank you Angie, Rich, Troy and Chelsea for making it a great day! read more

AJ - Amazing Instructor! A family of 4 - ages 46, 55, boys 16 and 20 took our Open Water Diver Certification with AJ. We ran long on day 1 in the pool so they accommodated us by extending ocean dives into day 3. This was not what we hoped for but was a great service to us. Dad was challenged by various things but found AJ very encouraging, always giving thorough explanations for everything! AJ was also appropriately stern when needed for unsafe practices but very supportive when that feedback was taken seriously and dad's skills improved to the point where he could enjoy himself. Mom and the kids had only a few issues. Spending 3 full days with AJ, we really appreciate the passion and constant feedback and are now excited and ready to continue building on skills we were taught so well! BIG thanks AJ! Horrible experience took us out in the middle of a thunderstorm. Put us over 200 yards away from the reef. We also had to waste about 1500 psi just to get to the reefs. Also took us to the worst spots during mini season. Do not recommend using horizon divers rainbow reef charters are so much better. read more
