Have visited Horatio Todds a few times now and have yet to be disappointed with anything. A spacious and comfortable bar area with a great selection of beers and often live music. There is a separate restaurant area which is comfortable and well designed. The food is absolutely fantastic, tasty, well presented, yet also exceptional value. Staff are friendly and attentive without being 'in your face'. On my latest visit I complained that my pint of beer was flat and was immediately offered a replacement of my choice and it was removed from the bill despite my objections that it wasn't necessary. I absolutely must recommend Horatio Todd's to anyone who is yet to try it. Top food, top staff, five stars all round.

I was stupidly excited about the opening of Horatio Todds recently as it's not too far form where I live and it's great to have new venues for the times you don't want to go into the city centre. The premises were previously occupied by Café Rouge which sadly never seemed to be busy and eventually closed down. So now we've got Horatio Todds and quite frankly I'm delighted. The owners also have a number of other successful bars around Belfast so clearly they knew what they were doing. I drive past the day before the opening and it looked nowhere near ready, but they pulled it off and opened on time. I waited a few weeks for the initial over excitement to die down and then booked a table for 4 of us to have a girls night out (I hate that term but that's what it was). We got off to a great start (well I did anyway and let's face it, it's all about me) when I saw one of my fav Pinot Grigios on the wine list. Which I looked at before even considering the menu. Priorities people, priorities. Wine sorted, I ordered a goats cheese tartlet (yum) and duck with bubble and squeak (also yum), at about £15 for both which I thought was excellent value for money. The menu was really long for a pub menu and you would have to be trying very hard not to find a couple of things you would really like to order. There was a very buzzy Friday night atmosphere which I loved but I had to be home by 11. Poor me and selfish babysitter and bad husband for being out on the same night. My friends stayed on until they were forced to leave sometime after 1am and said the music was great. There may have been dancing on tables. All in all, this is a great place for a meal or a meal and a little bit of a bender. It did become quite noisy after 10ish to romantic couple types may prefer to go on somewhere else.

Swish, smart, stylish, swanky. And that was just me before heading out. In all seriousness though, Horatio Todds is super deluxe, incredibly plush and oh so fashionable. It oozes style and charisma, attracting the trendiest clientele in town. The sumptuous leather seats were particularly glamorous, and quite a novel idea in this type of setting. Off to a good start then. Welcomed by an extremely polite server who told us our table would be "ready in two minutes", we waited by the extensive bar until further notice. Within seconds we were referred to our table (complete with those lux leather seats), and handed lunch menus, soaking up the pleasant surroundings. My strange battered style coriander chicken dish (or something along those lines) came with a bowl of chips, and a side salad. The chicken was fine, the chips were fair enough, but the salad came without dressing and was thus a tad dry. The other half chose a burger, which he later described as "all right". There was nothing particularly breathtaking about the food; it was adequate and tasted perfectly acceptable. Dessert was a no-go on this particular day, mainly because the profiteroles were gone (sob), and my boyfriend commented that dessert at lunch time was a bit much. He's got a point. Lunch time at Horatio Todds was pretty busy, and I could see how the place would really come alive in the evening. Given the chance, I would return for dinner at some stage and see how it compared with my lunch time experience. Which was perfectly fine. But sometimes fine doesn't quite cut it.

Salmony curry kind of thing (sorry this was my friends dinner...no idea what it was but she loved it)

Had the nicest meal in here this week! It was delicious. We had a table booked and were seated straight away, it did get quite busy so it would be a good idea to book in before. The resteraunt had a very classy and relaxed feeling with lovely mirrors and chandelier style lights. The atmosphere was good. The server explained the different menus and specials available and was very helpful. They have a set menu available for £14.95 for 2 courses or £17.95 for 3 courses. This included a glass of wine or a soft drink which I thought was really reasonable considering the tasty food we had. I ordered the slow roasted beef, I don't think I have tasted anything like it, it was perfect! For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding which was just as good as my main. The bar have a great range of cocktails and you can head in there after your meal, they have quiz nights and bands or djs on some nights too. The bar side of things can get really busy but it's good. For the designated drivers there is a carpark to the rear, take the left just before Horatios and then right and you are there.

Nice venue but food and service was just OK, nothing too special. Looks like it would be great for a night out but I wouldn't hurry back for the food!

My fiance, myself, and our little boy, made our way upstairs to the restaurant. Upon arrival we picked a table, got a highchair, and took some menus from the bar. As it was Sunday, they had a Sunday menu on, where you could pick from 1,2 nd 3 courses. I was tempted, but in the end I decided to go for the steak, and my partner went for the ribs. The gentleman came over to take our order, and brought us our drinks. The food came fairly quickly and my steak was done exactly how I'd asked. I opted for the sweet potato wedges, which were quite nice but very greasy. It also came with 2 onion rings which were great. My partner enjoyed his ribs but as a main course, there was very little meat on them making for too small a portion and he went home hungry. The biggest shocker of all however was when we got the bill. Drinks wise, we'd got a soft drink each, and I had a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. The total for the drinks came to £12.95! The Coke and Diet Coke were £4 each! Absolute disgrace guys, sort this out! If I had known that was how much the soft drink was I'd have got another wine as it wasn't much more expensive. To be honest, although the food was fine, this in itself would genuinely put me off going back. Should be called Stroker's Halt!

Wasn't a fan of the Point in it's day, but of a dive, and the crowd could get a bit rough. They've really overhauled it, and turned it into a warm, welcoming and inviting place you would want to spend the evening it. We called in on a Wednesday night to watch the football and whilst not terribly busy there was a good few people just sitting having a drink with friends, reading, eating dinner, or watching the match. All very relaxed! The décor is rustic and they've knocked a few walls down, and shifted the bar around which has really opened up the place. I loved their big leather tub chairs and high tables with stools, clearly they have put a lot of money into this place. They have really upped their game in the drinks department, which was a pity for me as I only had a coffee, but it was fresh and tasty, so I was happy enough. The drinks menu was extensive, every type of gin, including my favourite Monkey 47 (potent stuff), they have also cocktails at reasonable prices and plenty of craft beers if you consider yourself a beer snob, and if you don't there are plenty of options for you too. We didn't have dinner either (we were really very dull last night). But after having a nosy at the menu we vowed to return and have a proper run at it! We were tempted to go up to other people and ask "mind if I take a photo of your burger??" they looked that good! But I don't think being a Yelper would have been a good enough reason, and we would definitely have looked crazy. So watch this space, updated review coming soon!

Oh, hold on, that was me. I recently had a night out with a large group in the lonely Poet, for a meal and (lots of) drinks. I am delighted to say that the waiting staff were friendly, efficient and had all the patience required to deal with a bunch of over excited thirty somethings let loose for the night. I had Thai fish cakes to start - totally yum and served with lime dressing and then I played it safe with a steak as I needed something substantial to line the old tum with. The steak was perfectly well done as I had requested, and the extra chunky chips I ordered were certainly chunky! The rest of the night was a blur of multiple drinks orders and our lovely waitress didn't even flinch at the end when we tried to calculate our shares of the bill. On the visit before that with just a couple of friends, I had a chicken ceasar (ok ok, chunky chips too) which was top notch and then enjoyed the live music which I think happens every Sunday. It will sound like I never cook, but I was recently in the Lonely Poet with another group of friends for a birthday lunch. There were a couple of small kids in the group and they were treated like visiting royalty. A colouring in book and crayons for the young lady? Of course. Some complimentary carrot sticks? Certainly. Sausage and chips which aren't even on the menu? No problem as we say in Belfast. Anywhere that makes this much effort to keep the whole family happy will always get my vote!

Well decorated, sleek and refined, it really is a million miles away from what the pervious pub looked like. Having frequented The Lonely Poet almost every Sunday night for a couple of months, my friends and appreciate the fab wee Irish band who play their hearts out each week. The very first time I went to the Lonely Poet was with a couple of friends for dinner. The food wasn't brilliant - my pasta tasted a bit watery, and we did have a very long wait for it, despite the fact that there really weren't that many other people in the place. I was a bit disappointed. The first time I went on a Sunday night with a large group of friends for a drink, we waited 25 minutes to be served, and there must have been at least 10 of us sitting there. Not a great start. Since then, it has really been hit and miss. The staff have sometimes been lovely, other times they've been stand-offish and a bit awkward. One Sunday, we were told that the kitchen had been closed early, even though it was only 9pm, and they didn't close for at least another 2 hours. Oh dear. So, there you have it. I'm really no clearer, and in fact, probably a bit more confuddled. Still, Sunday nights at the Lonely Poet will probably be a regular occurence. The only way is up, eh?

You get loads of lean beautifully marinated beef - my mouth is watering at the very thought. - and at under £6, this is outstanding value. You can throw on extras like rocket, chorizo, pancetta and sun blush tomatoes. Trust me, you have never had pizza this good. Pasta is an equally good choice - the chorizo carbonara is fab. Order a side of garlic bread, let out your belt and surrender to it. The tobacco onions are unmissable too - long strings of onions coated in something delish and deep fried. With an extensive wine and craft beer choice there is something for everyone! On arrival we were a little confused to where the dining area was as we came in what we knew later to be the back bar entrance. Leading us into a separate dining area which had no one about. The bar staff were busy and didn't catch on that we were a little lost. A member of our party tried a door which took us into the restaurant area. We had a good table and it was relatively busy for a Tuesday. It turns out Tuesdays are a night with steaks on offer also, a good deal but I knew what I wanted before I got there. I chose the local scallops, black pudding crumb, lobster & parmesan infused risotto this looked great on arrival however I quickly spotted there was no black pudding and an addition of chopped king prawn to the risotto. The dish was a little bland but with additional parmesan it improved. Another lady with my party did not enjoy the risotto at all and really only ate the small scallops on top. For main course I went for the flat iron steak having loved it at another restaurant. I was informed by the waitress it was served pink... My favourite way for a steak! When the food was delivered there was a little mix up and tooing and froing. What seemed like a little misunderstanding over surf with some turf, kinda felt like a big deal to one of the waitresses. Having tucked in I could see the steak was more medium-well and as i bit in realised it was very tough, chewy and over cooked. I tried another bit and it was the same. I brought this to the attention of another waitress who quickly took it away. She returned to assure me another was on the way and that they would speak to supplier as this was unusually tough cut. I got my replacement which was exactly how I had imagined however my whole party had finished their meal and I felt a little like I as holding them up. We had brought our own cake for dessert and organised for the obligatory candles, parade and song. However before taking the cake out the waitress didn't check our table and it was missed by the guys Mum and daughter who'd went to the bathroom. Id tried to make eye contact to kitchen door but Birthday spotted her and she had to continue. Ha what a palava! We got no plates or forks with the heavily iced bday cake which we had to chase. I don't know what to make of here. Nearly want to try it again due to food being quite nice, friendly but inconsistent service and the great reputation it has built. Maybe this was an off night?

Once he'd served me my pint he said to me that it was my last one. I asked him why, and he said that he just didn't want to serve me any more. I asked to speak to his manager, and he told me that he was allowing me to drink this pint, with the implication that if I caused trouble he wouldn't. I said that I didn't want the pint but did want to speak with his manager. He took my pint and emptied it. The manager, a short plump middle aged lady, with dark hair, came round from the other bar, and queried if I'd been barred (which I hadn't as I am only visiting newtownards from England to visit my mother who is in a nursing home).
