Fish and Chips. Lite and flakey.
Andrew R.

Great place for dinner and a drink in the heart of downtown Belfast. Both our steak dinner and fish and chips were perfectly prepared. Cocktails were great- had a concoction of vodka, lemon sherbet, and proseco. Bread pudding desert was off the hook. Not too pricey. Great first meal In Belfast.

Rump of lamb

Nice place but service dwindled considerately after it started to get busy. We had seafood chowder for appetizers and lamb rump and roasted hake for main courses. All was sumptuous and well presented. Good flavors and served promptly. Good selection of wine and well paired with the food. After that it seemed we were forgotten or being politely being asked to leave. I'm going to go with the other option of being short staffed. But I found it weird and totally not business like not trying to make us spend more. We were not offered any coffee, tea, or dessert. Not asked if we wanted anymore wine or anything else. That is the first for me. I'm giving a 4 star rating instead of 5 because of the initial service and excellent food. I would like to come again but I'll be looking for an improvement on service and I would like to see if their desserts are as good as the rest of the food. My mouth is watering thinking about it.

Very nice experience! Enjoyed the first evening in Belfast. Love the food and beer. Service was great too.

This is a great city centre restaurant with a great interior and friendly staff We went for the pre-theatre menu which is excellent value for money 2 courses and a cocktail - £23.95 3 courses and a cocktail -£28.95 There were plenty of options to choose from which made a change from other set menus and the food was absolutely delicious We were there on a Saturday at 6.00pm and the restaurant was very busy however the speed of the service was excellent If you're looking for somewhere a bit special at a great price in the city centre this is a great option

Amelia cocktail

I definitely enjoyed my meal here. I started with salt and chili beef, which was quite tasty. The portion was very large. For main I had the pork belly. I feel like I wasn't quite sure what I was eating with the sides but it was all quite delicious. I had the Amelia cocktail, which was nice and fruity and came out very nicely decorated with apple slices.

Decided to go for a last minute bite after work. Howard St is very handy in the city centre and the menu looked great. There was also an early bird offer, even better. The decor is lovely and created a lovely atmosphere too. The menu had great choices, the wine was great and there was a good choice of beers and ales. We ordered off the early bird menu and it was delicious. Such a great price. My only gripe is the waitress didn't seem too happy, maybe it was just a bad day for her. All other waiters and waitresses we dealt with were just lovely. Despite that minor hiccup I think you would find it hard to get a better meal in Belfast. Tip: Try the smoked haddock.

Lovely outside and in.

If someone suggests a fancy 3 course lunch for £24 I'm there with bells on, and Howard Street did not disappoint. I'm old enough (cough) to remember this building when it was a dark 'restaurant' (deliberate speech marks!) Skandia back in the day, and I'm thrilled to say this is nothing like it. The walls have been stripped and restored sensitively, and the place feels warm despite the slight industrial feel. I also love the wine fridge along one wall, and wonder how often the staff have to stop patrons raiding it! The staff are personable but not intrusive and although the food is almost fine dining it is relaxed and I didn't feel bad wearing jeans. As for the food, it was delicious, my beef cooked to perfection. Because we were stuck for time we didn't get to have pudding, but by the looks of what I was openly staring at being delivered to the next table, I'll be having one the next time!

Crispy Salt & Chili Beef with 1800 Margarita

A great Belfast staple - classic, delicious, well-prepared dishes with impeccable service. The Crispy Salt & Chili Beef is a must-have app to share, and the Duck is excellent. The 1800 Margarita with hibiscus is one of the best I've had.

Vegetarian risotto at Howard Street - TASTY!

Howard Street is fabulous. Great food, service and atmosphere. They have a dedicated vegetarian menu - but weirdly don't put it on their website - you have to ask for it in restaurant. Tried it last night for the first time and was very impressed. Had a curried vegetable risotto with poached egg - ultra fresh and tasty. My friend whose not veggie liked the vegetarian menu so much she opted for a dish off it too - went for the veggie linguine and thought it delicious. Super selection of gin and wine. Lovely service and staff. Restaurant décor is rich dark woods and muted dark colours. We were in for a very early meal at 5.30pm on a Thursday and left an hour later and by which stage the restaurant was packed - hence you probably do need to book in advance. I'm looking forward to a return visit. Super spot.

Yes! Finally a restaurant worth going to. Delicious food. Reasonably priced. Great service. Go that is all!

We had such a lovely meal here! The staff were super friendly and helpful. The cocktails were awesome, they serve a great old fashioned! All our dishes were excellent - the scallop linguini was particularly good, as we're the venison and pork belly. They have a great wine, beer and cocktail list. The atmosphere is lively and relaxed and the setting is cosy and eclectic, great for an intimate dinner or a special occasion.

The ground floor bar area was packed and busy! It was a good vibes. We sat and had dinner in a quiet setting upstairs. We enjoyed our food and drinks. My margarita was delicious. During the time I visited, it wasn't very packed so I was seated swiftly. The kind staff accommodated my request to get a corner table. The vibe can be describe is a classic. I really enjoyed all the dark stained wood furniture - gave it such an "old Irish saloon" vibe...maybe because it is haha. I did not have much time to spend in Belfast, so I tried to taste as many traditional dishes as possible with being just one person. With that being said, I ordered a few of their notable dishes - Crown Bar Irish Stew, Steak & Ale Pie, and to finish it off, the Sticky Toffee Pudding served with both the custard and ice cream (really thankful the server offered to give me two toppings, and they were both delicious). All the dishes were great, and are definitely hearty. The stew as well as the pie filling had a rich roux - nice, thick and flavorful. I will say, the pie pastry was not as flaky as I would have liked it; kind of too thick. Overall, it was a great taste of Ireland

Barking Dog Restaurant - beef shin burger is definitely not your average burger

I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. A+ and a definite must when visiting Belfast.
