Pros include table service, friendly staff and stunning interior - I loved the life size cherry tree rising over the bar. But I wouldn't return, because a rather devastating con, is that the drinks are awful. House Belfast is a recently opened hotel, bar and restaurant located on Botanic Avenue which I tried during Tuesday 06/03/2018. Firstly I asked for Malfy Gin with slimline tonic. The tonic was Thomas Henry, so horribly bitter and strong it overpowers everything. Also disappointing, is the fact there's no gin menu. Such would be useful given there are so many gins, spirits and liqueurs. However a cocktail/ wine list was available, so my next order was a cocktail. I cannot recall the name of the drink I ended up with, maybe my mind has tried to erase all memory, as it was horrendous! A fruit-based, nasty, acidic, chemical-tasting concoction - even the cute pineapple glass it was poured into couldn't save this disaster. I toyed with the idea of returning it to the bar as I simply couldn't drink it. Finally my friend and I swapped drinks as she felt she could stomach it (she's much braver than me!). I ended up with an overly sweet, sickly Espresso Martini. Better than pineapple-glass-nightmare, but still not good.
