Just off Donegal Street tucked down Commercial Court entry is Hadskis! Hadskis is Belfast's newest European dining experience. The interior is chic and classy whilst the exterior is full of character having formerly been a 18th Century Iron Foundry. Hadskis is the perfect destination for a working lunch or a romantic evening dinner - in fact it is fit for all purposes. I visited for an early lunch and while the doors only open at 12 by the time half 12 came around there were at least 5 tables occupied in the long narrow dining area. I would suggest to book a table if you are hoping to eat at Hadskis post 12:30pm. We were presented with the lunch menu by the attentive staff - there were 6 different choices of meal for £6.50 each but this wasn't basic fare - This was fine cuisine at an unbelievable price. I couldn't choose between what was on the menu so being a glutton I opted for 2 dished form this menu. As Hadskis specialises in seafood I went for the filling Seafood Chowder and the Sardine and caper Caesar salad. In retrospect I should have just gone for the Seafood Chowder as it was extremely filling - although IO 'm glad I got to taste both dishes. I found Hadskis the perfect dining experience - firstly the staff didn't judge me for being greedy and secondly the food was incredible. I will definitely be back.

Charcuterie plate

Ok so I went out for a meal in Hadskis on Saturday for a friends fortieth birthday. There were about 10 of us and we had the table from 7-9. The overall décor is modern and clean, you know what I mean, neutral colours, concrete and stainless steel, but still comfortable feeling. We got seated and faffed a bit and ordered drinks. (I chipped in for a bottle of prosecco which was ok. I've had nicer prosecco for cheaper to be honest) We eventually ordered and I went for the Charcuterie plate for starter (See pic) It was delicious, the meats were amazing and the fresh olives a mild fresh lift. But the real star was the bread, it was like a salted melba toast and tasted heavenly. The other starters all looked pretty good as well and I was told they tasted good. For main I ordered one of the specials; Plaice, Samphire, Muscles and potatoes (with a muscle sauce I think, see pic) I'm a huge fish fan, its what I order a lot of when eating out, and while this was nice, it wasn't out of this world. Some of the muscles were just shell, with no actual mollusc inside. The samphire was slightly over-cooked but my biggest disappointment was the plaice itself. Now I'm realistic, I know plaice is a hard fish to fillet cause its skinny and you don't get a lot of meat from a fillet. But this plaice was served on the bones. The last thing I wanted to be doing was pulling fish bones out of my mouth on a night out chatting to friends. It's not a good look. So apart from 'Bonegate' the fish tasted ok, but I'd definitely order something else next time. The service was impeccable and our waitress was exceptionally attentive and friendly. The price was reasonable to pricey. I'd definitely go back its a great place.

Have heard nice reviews on this place mainly around portion size seeming inconsistent depending on what dish was ordered. The place inside is way bigger that I thought. It's bright, clean, warm and has mellow music. One of the staff was nice the other could have had more personality. The only other real let down was that I didn't get a sharper knife for the beef. The food was very fresh and I left the place still feeling light and health even though I had a dessert. Portion sizes seem better depending on the dish you order. I would stay away from the salads. Lunch menu is decent to sample some fancy dishes £6.50 each. Of your in town and want to be a bit posh for the day this is the place to go. You may have to google some of the names of the dishes. Or ask the staff. They know what the score is and rd helpful that way. Think I would Like to return to sample the brunch. If I'm looking a fancy brunch some day.

On vacation with a bunch of family. My cousin and I snuck off for a late lunch from this place. And boy, was it worth the cab ride. The drinks were phenomenal and the food was incredible. Very well priced for a place that looks much nicer. We split a starter plate and then had our own meals and it was almost too much food. Great cook on the pork belly and octopus plate I had. Never did get a refill of water but since we always had a steady supply of other drinks I'm giving this a 5/5.

Menu - shame the Vegetarian options aren't clearly marked!
Ciara S.

I have been looking forward to trying Hadskis for quite a while but was extremely disappointed with it tonight (Thursday 10.03.2016) on my first visit because: ~ Vegetarian options are not marked at all, in any way, on their menu which is appalling and a complete pain if you're vegetarian. ~ When asked which dishes were vegetarian the waiter ran through them at lightening speed as if my asking him was an annoyance. He actually seemed peeved I asked if there was a dedicated vegetarian menu and as there wasn't that I asked him to point out what was vegetarian on the main menu. But at the end of the day I'm a paying customer so he and Hadskis need to start considering the growing vegetarian population and start treating all their customers with a bit of respect - it's just simple good manners and good business sense. ~ The wild mushroom gnocchi dish I ordered was ok but it could have had a lot more flavour. More importantly the portion was pathetically small and could have been double or triple what it was (I actually went home 4 hours later with a Chinese takeaway I was that hungry!) which is poor after having paid over £13 for a main vegetarian course. ~ Hadskis also have the cheek to add an automatic 10% service charge to their bills, irrelevant of table size, which I find arrogant and distasteful. ~ The restaurant itself is average, being small, gloomy and not particularly comfortable nor atmospheric. All in all, I thought Hadskis was a major let down and I'm not inclined to return nor recommend it to others. I cannot understand the previous good reviews this restaurant has received and think it is maybe a case of "The Emperor's New Clothes". I felt Hadskis was pretentious, cold in atmosphere and overpriced. There are better places to dine in Belfast, so spend your hard earned cash elsewhere.

Chateaubriand

Everything about our visit to this place was top notch. From the chateaubriand steak we split to our lovely waitress Molly to the wine to the atmosphere - loved it. The steak was a dish made for two people to split, but three could easily split it and leave full. We got the champs, which were delicious, and chips. I'd come back here once a week if I lived locally.

LOVE hadskis! Defiantly one of my favourites in Belfast city centre. They have a slick, clean dining look with a bar and additional high seated area if you'd like to watch the chef cook and dish up. I'd recommend this for breakfasts more than dinner. Breakfasts are the classics with the hadskis flare and attention to detail that make it great. They have an all day menu so if you want steak at 12am that's great! The menu is quite big, lots of meat dishes with beef, pork, lamb coming from hannons butchers! Everyone knows this is the best grass fed butchers in Ireland! I usually have steak.(T-bone for two is my next order lol) the fillets and ribeye are excellent. Most things come with sides like Parmesan and shallot chips, roasted honey root veg, Irish champ or seasonal green. There is a great pasta selection and they cater for vegetarians. The desserts are usually great and very big including cheeseboards. It you like filthy blue cheese then try hadskis, it's great. Or you could try a dessert cocktail. Lemon meringue pie, death my chocolate etc. The drinks menu is extensive with local brews. The staff are friendly but v professional.

What can I say about Hadskis - the staff are very friendly making sure you are enjoying the meal and even asking if you need a taxi to take you onto your next destination (don't know if this is a ploy to chuck you out or not, but I'm choosing to believe it's just excellent customer service) I'm not a fan of waiters coming round and tipping up the wine as some diners drink faster than others but I won't mark them down for that. The reason why Hadskis lost a star in my book is due to the menu, for me if you have to google what the dishes are this is a major faux pas, if they want to be fancy dancy that's ok but please write a description underneath so the regular Joe Bloggs actually knows what they are ordering!! As it was I dined with 2 vegetarian friends who were dismayed to find that the vegetarian items in the menu were not identified easily. I ordered Hannan's spiced meatballs, Orecchiette, Harissa and Parmesan - what is this I hear you ask, simply it was meatballs with shell pasta ( the iPhone knew Orecchiette- maybe it's just me!) and a spicy sauce and surprisingly it had chorizo which wasn't mentioned on the menu (believe me I googled so it definitely wasn't mentioned!) but was a nice surprise. My 2 friends ordered the wild mushroom gnocchi. Firstly I was surprised to find that the vegetarian option cost more than the meat dish which is unusual to say the least bit also the portion sizes were completely different as the vegetarian offering was considerably smaller. I have to say from my point of view I can't really fault the place other than the degree in food you need to decipher the menu but overall for a party of 3 to contradict Meatloaf 2 out of 3 is bad

Barking Dog Restaurant - beef shin burger is definitely not your average burger

I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. A+ and a definite must when visiting Belfast.

We ordered a Hilden Belfast Blonde and a Small Axe Session IPA. It wasn't super busy so talked to the bartender about travel. As another bartender walked in we also discussed beer and cocktails. He told us that flavored Gins were popular. He let us smell a few of the popular ones since we are not big gin drinkers. Decided to stop in the ladies room before leaving and found an interesting group of old photos while there.
