Just an indescribable experience. We went for my partner's birthday, and we had nothing but positive things to say. Impeccable service. The menu changes weekly, we kept a copy of our menu for the evening.

Top notch food, service, and location in a revitalized city. Our first night in Ireland, after landing in Dublin and a quick drive up to Belfast, we were delighted to done at this gem. Right near the water, and blocks away from the bustling center city, you'll find creative seasonal good, with multiple wine pairing options. Veal tartare, some of the sweetest and softest scallops we've ever tasted, lamb, and a tomato shiso tea that kept us guessing on it's creation. If you're in northern Ireland, plan ahead and grab some seats at this restaurant...you won't leave dissatisfied.

This place is phenomenal. All the dishes were unique and spectacular. The service was great as well. I loved the ambience of this spot. I highly recommend checking this place out.

Lunch Menu (June 2017)

Visited Ox on Saturday 10 June 2017 for lunch. The lunchtime menu is small in terms of selection (especially lacking in vegetarian options) but offers two courses for £20 or three courses for £25 per person. My party opted for three courses. I had an asparagus, broad bean, artichoke and truffle starter (bland), a main of spelt, beets, chard and herbs (delicious) and dessert of cherry, white chocolate and rose (very tasty). Portion sizes were tiny, so we all really needed three courses. Even though a little bread was served at the start of our meal and sweets at the end, we would have liked a greater amount of food. The dishes were beautifully presented and very flavoursome except for my starter which was a bit tasteless. Service was excellent and attentive, but there was an automatic 10% service charge added to our bill, a pet hate of mine, thus I did expect flawless service. Wine was good and I liked the novelty of a solid-ice wine cooler which managed to hold its shape and not melt during our lunch. There could be a few minor improvements e.g. clearly marked vegetarian options, ditching cruel meats such as veal from the menu, ensuring all dishes are equally flavoursome, and providing larger more substantial portions. Ultimately however we had a lovely lunch. Irrelevant of awards/ michelin stars etc, I personally probably wouldn't rush back to Ox, purely due to these areas which need improvement. But I think it a very good and beautiful restaurant which provides a pleasant dining experience.

This place ain't it. Started with a cheese puff and peas which was average. Bread and butter was legit - but expect nothing less on the island. Scallop bisque was fire though - had the crispness and the creaminess perfectly balanced. Tomato gallete was messy and not as flavorful as it should be. Monkish came next and was a bit bland. Cote de boeuf was tasty and above average - black garlic accompanying it went nice with it. Waiter then conned us into getting cheese which wasn't special - waiter didn't mention it was an 18€ supplement. Two desserts were just good - again not special. And that's the epitome of this spot - good, but not special considering the hype and cost.

Tasting menu with wine pairings on Oct 4, 2017

A wonderful experience. 5 courses for 50 GBP and wine pairing for 30 GBP! I wish all wine pairings were priced like that! The somm wasn't particularly good and two of the wines were barely passable, but at that price, you really can't complain. The food was very good and well prepared. My favorite was the duck with foie gras. Lovely servers and hostess.

Pretty views, pretty food.

Not liking Ox is something that just isn't done in Belfast. It is locally adored and all the foodie folk say it is only a matter of time before is achieves Michelin star status, so my next sentence might be a bit of a shock- I'm just not overly fussed on it. I love the look of the place, the clean tiled lines, the recycled chairs, the view, and the food is as pretty as a picture, so what's not to love, right? I would say that at £50 a head you want it to taste awesome, and well, it didn't. Ok, everyone can have an off day, and I am certainly in the minority with this view, but when you are spending good money you don't want to come out of somewhere hungry and disappointed. I'll probably still give it another chance at some stage, but for those special occasions I'd probably stick to those who haven't disappointed such as The Great Room in The Merchant or The Old Schoolhouse in Comber. Sorry foodies!

We had an amazing tasting menu for lunch on 22 February. The service was great but best of all was the variety and selection of the five courses - a very pleasant surprise given 2 of us are vegetarian. Totally loved the experience

Barking Dog Restaurant - beef shin burger is definitely not your average burger

I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. A+ and a definite must when visiting Belfast.

Since we had already had lunch we sat at the bar for a beer. We were greeted by a nice bartender. We told her we were looking for either a beer or cider. There are a few tables outside to enjoy the weather and a few tables inside. The bar area downstairs is small with quite a sizable collection of bras hanging from the ceiling. We ordered a Hilden Belfast Blonde and a Small Axe Session IPA. It wasn't super busy so talked to the bartender about travel. As another bartender walked in we also discussed beer and cocktails. He told us that flavored Gins were popular. He let us smell a few of the popular ones since we are not big gin drinkers. Decided to stop in the ladies room before leaving and found an interesting group of old photos while there. We didn't try any food but loved the beer and cocktail options and really enjoyed talking to both the bartenders. Stop by and check it out.
