Stopped in for a bite to eat and a beer and we weren't disappointed. There's a decent amount of seating in the bar area and the service was great. Can't go wrong with the Korean chicken, which I was iffy about getting, but it was great!

This is an iconic pub that I would highly recommend that you check out. I just stopped by for about a half hour just for the experience and to have a beer. But I can imagine you can meet some very nice local people at this bar and it's not as commercialized as some of the other ones. It's a very centralized location and there's a lot of shopping in the area if that means something to you.

A quick limerick style review of the Garrick There once was a pub called the Garrick Where they poured a fine pint of the black The fish was so grand But the chips were quite bland Still, the bartender was friendly, no lack! He greeted us warm with a smile and a nod And made us feel welcome, a true local's bod Tourists and locals alike Enjoyed a good drink and a hike At Garrick, the spirit of Belfast is awed!

This is one of several gorgeous Victorian bars I visited in Northern Ireland on my recent trip. Service was extremely slow with the bartenders serving someone who was sitting at the bar who gestured to them about 5 minutes after I had started waiting and then apparently just not seeing me even when I was standing right of the front, which is strange given I'm 5'11 and the ratio of men to women was 9:1. Anyhoo, was very pleased with my Northern Irish cider - MacIvor's and my dad was on the Guinness. Unlike the Crown Bar, it's full of locals rather than tourists so is a better bet for peak times.

A true Pub! Great selection of beverages. Beers and ciders. Great meeting place after work. Fast service. Small, but a nice intimate environment. There is a front room and a back room.

I thought I better update my review on The Garrick as the last one was based on a few fleeting pints I had in passing. After a recent show at the Waterfront we headed straight for Victoria's as it was closer in proximity but I kind of wish I had of walked the extra 50 meters to The Garrick straight away. When we finally did make it to The Garrick we immediately felt comfortable, although it was a Friday night we were served almost immediately by the bar staff. I get the impression that tending the bar to these guys is more of a craft than a job. They are quick, slick and definitely know their drinks. The choice of draught beer is second to none - they serve at least 12 beers (that I could count) including Dublin Porter and Hop House 13. It is split in to 2 separate areas - the front bar is traditional, rich oak and old clocks adorn the walls yet on the evening I was in the Garrick the back bar had more of a club feeling to it. Music was blasting but this may have been a Friday evening thing. There was a really nice mix of people in The Garrick when I visited, although this is essentially a City pub it has a real feel of a 'local'.

Whether you live in Belfast or just visiting this is a great wee traditional bar The decor and atmosphere is great and there is plenty of entrainment from traditional sessions in the front bar to DJ sets in the back bar The range of drinks is excellent and you can even get yourself a pickled egg from behind the bar The food is great too, proper pub grub at a great price, some of the mains even come with a free drink too

The Garrick isn't a bar I really went into until about a year and a half ago, and I have to say, it's pretty good. It's a very traditional looking bar - all dark mahogany and cosy little corners to sit in. I've never been for their club night, but it's meant to be pretty good (soul and funk music if memory serves). The only problem I can imagine is that it's pretty small, so it would turn into a bit of a sweat box! It's a nice place to go for a pint after shopping, or as a launch pad for a night out though.

This is a great little bar...on a friday night will be packed and you'd be lucky to find a seat, then again its not a very big bar...there are function rooms upstairs and there are two bars ...one at the back and one at the front, I'm not too sure what the difference is. There is a good selection of beer here and a good pub grub menu...although sometimes the rood can seem like its of Weather-spoons microwave standard. It hosts a good mix of young and old and all in all is a good place to go for a few pints.

    Wise words indeed.

As city centre watering holes go, The Garrick is one of my favourites. Just like a good Irish bar should be, all wood and brass, it has a really good selection of beers and always has something new to try. Whether you want to watch the football, dance like an eejit, enjoy some live trad or just have a chat and a pint, this place has got it covered. The back bar also has some good djs at the weekends for free, playing some really interesting tunes- there'll be none of your chart stuff in here. If you are looking for an excuse to visit at lunchtime they do mighty fine pub grub too. All round, it's a winner!

Why have one when you can have two!

Great live music and good beer. Appetizer offer ended at 9 pm so we missed it. No craft beers, just the macros.

The ground floor bar area was packed and busy! It was a good vibes. We sat and had dinner in a quiet setting upstairs. We enjoyed our food and drinks. My margarita was delicious. During the time I visited, it wasn't very packed so I was seated swiftly. The kind staff accommodated my request to get a corner table. The vibe can be describe is a classic. I really enjoyed all the dark stained wood furniture - gave it such an "old Irish saloon" vibe...maybe because it is haha. I did not have much time to spend in Belfast, so I tried to taste as many traditional dishes as possible with being just one person. With that being said, I ordered a few of their notable dishes - Crown Bar Irish Stew, Steak & Ale Pie, and to finish it off, the Sticky Toffee Pudding served with both the custard and ice cream (really thankful the server offered to give me two toppings, and they were both delicious). All the dishes were great, and are definitely hearty. The stew as well as the pie filling had a rich roux - nice, thick and flavorful. I will say, the pie pastry was not as flaky as I would have liked it; kind of too thick. Overall, it was a great taste of Ireland

I'm not quite the party animal I used to be…read moreback in the olden days, but I do like a night out from time to time, and Katy's is right up our street in terms of the crowd that go there, the music they play, and the general ambiance. They are in a handy city centre position and can be easily reached from anywhere in the city centre. If you're not drinking, there is parking right out the front (if you get there early enough!) if not there are plenty of side streets too! For weekend visiting, be sure to get there before 7-ish, or you may find that you won't get a seat, although it does calm down later on in the night when the Limelight opens and some of the patrons move next door to the club. I must make a point of going back to Katy's soon, it's been too long!

Anyway, apart from the wonderful Public Bar in Melbourne, and possibly Dubliners in Tokyo (actually no, their Guinness is questionable and their 'soda bread' is in fact wheaten), Katy Daly's is my all time favourite bar in the world. This says quite a lot if, like me, you fled screaming from these shores at the first possible opportunity and spent several years abroad. But I've come to realise on my frequent returns, to sign on, that Belfast is actually quite a cool wee city. And Katy Daly's is one of the main experiences for me that encompasses that vibe. Imagine my shame and horror last year in Australia when one of the lead items on the news was the spides in the Village burning the Roma population out of the area. And when any July overseas the pictures beamed in from Belfast are of riots, bottle-throwing spides and triumphalist sweaty-faced Orangemen doing their damnedest to make sure no-one can get down the Lisburn Road. 'Belfast isn't like that!' I'd wail to anyone who'd listen, and plenty who wouldn't. 'Look at Katy's for example!' A rock bar with great music both live and on the jukebox, an unpretentious and friendly crowd, the best pub quiz I've ever been to (yes, even better than Melbourne's), friendly staff who remember your usual (ahem), and good food at good prices, makes Katy's a must visit for any tourist who thinks Belfast is all burning buses and bodhráns. Oh, and most unusually, and welcome, for an average city bar - the ladies are normally outnumbered by the men. Most of whom are of an alternative ilk and not decked out in Ben Sherman and Timberlands, and therefore are generally gentlemanly instead of trying to cop a quick grope as you go past them on the way to the loos (Bot, I'm looking at you). Many of them are long-haired and tattooed to boot. Yummies. In fact, I'm sitting in Katy's right now writing this. Goddesses bless mobile broadband.
