Stellar service!! I mean, I don't know if it was intentional but it felt like a floating service…read more We had plenty of waitstaff the kept our drinks full and made sure our orders came out hot! Garlic bread is incredible though the "aioli" tasted like it was just mayo but the bread didn't need it at all. Goujons were good but the bbq sauce didn't taste bbq at all. The pepper sauce was nice though. Star here was the rotisserie chicken: fall off the bone and cooked perfectly. Again though, sauce was mid. Nothing on this menu needs a sauce (except Goujons) but they all come with them! Dishes def stand alone. All that said, the device made the meal!

A great place for a chill glass of wine or Guinness while watching sports…read more I was told by one of the British Open parking attendants to come here to get a drink. I walked up the hill and there it was. Lot of people standing outside on the patio but no seats. I went in to the small bar on the lower level and a very friendly male bartender waited on me. I wandered upstairs to the second level where it was a huge space and had plenty of big screen TVs for the golf. I found the place to be very comfortable and great views of the water. The young guy at the second level bar was nice but a bit of an airhead (the drink was £11 and I handed him £20, he stood waiting for more money and ummmmmmm didn't I give you a 20? He seemed clueless about the money) We had a laugh but prob a good idea to know what the local money looks like! The top level of this place was an amazing view but it was Sunday afternoon and the bar was not open. Has more of a night feel. It's a fantastic building and I enjoyed my visit.

The Walled City Brewery - Cauliflower steak : De-Lish-Ous!

We knew about the Walled City Brewery before visiting Derry, but what we didn't know was that they…read morehave very limited hours. During our stay, Monday - Thursday they are only open for a small window between 5-8:30pm. We decided not to go the brewery tour, so I can't comment on if it is worthwhile, but I think I would try doing it next time if we ever were to go back to Derry.  The brewery has a full restaurant which has fantastic reviews and was also recommended by our friend who has gone before. We weren't hungry yet for dinner, so we opted to just visit the Taproom. The Taproom is also very cool and has a great vibe with interesting artwork. What we really liked about this brewery was it felt like a craft brewery and offered a lot of variety in their beers. It was the first place that we found that offered a sour beer, they had a wit beer, and they even had a hard seltzer (which honestly wasn't very good unless you like gin drinks). We enjoyed a few drinks and the music for a hour or so before deciding on dinner.

4.5 stars for lunch w/ brew…read more I got the Cauliflower Steak at 12€ and a taster set of 3 brews (the Boom, Punt Purse, and the IPA 2.3%). The Cauliflower Steak was absolutely delicious with some fantastic flavors to it, and thankfully it was NOT greasy (unlike some other places I ordered cauliflower in the UK). I would highly recommend this dish. As for my taster set, the Punt Purse and 2.3% IPA were both fine, but it was "the Boom" that stole the show in my opinion....I should've just gotten a pint of that. The only negative was our server, who didn't seem into his job at all. The attention he gave us was all quite perfunctory....maybe he was just having an off day because he had something serious on his mind that day, but if not, he might consider looking for a position other than a server (since he clearly didn't seem to be into it).

Do yourself a favor and make reservations on a Saturday night. It's out in the countryside but…read moreit's lively because they have live traditional music. If you enter through the red door you can go either of two ways but you will want the restaurant in the back. Very open architectural feel to it. And very young appearing wait staff of local lasses under the watchful eye of John from Ballygally. Our dinner started with an appetizer--homemade quick bread which fabulous because it was made with Guinness! The two mains were the seafood special and then the venison. Perfectly prepared and well presented. Best meal in Ireland! Four stars, but.... Ok, we went back a week later. Not the same....the guys in the bar were telling mostly offensive, sexist, off-color, and crude jokes. The food was still good--had the house specials of steak and the breen--but our desert was a total disappointment; where was the lemon crud int? Totally missing, and the manager totally agreed. Then, he gave us another one and didn't charge us for it. But at the end, our waitress literally disappeared for 20 minutes only to reappear to wish us good night never acknowledging the dessert fiasco and her disappearance. Three stars...

Behind the bar, there is a restaurant that is quite large and very popular. The Sunday menu is a two course set price menu, and there were so many excellent sounding options. I ended up choosing the prawns for the appetizer and the Larne salmon as my entree, and my husband had the lamb. The entrees were also accompanied by potatoes and vegetables. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked, and the staff were so friendly! We're very thankful that we stumbled across this gem during our trip, and we would highly recommend it.
